Finally! The original Hannibal Lecter movie, Manhunter, is getting a brand new 4K restoration that's being billed as Michael Mann's Manhunter: The Final Cut. It will also be released in select theaters on July 24.

The mid-2000s was a haven for direct-to-video sequels. And I love that era for that exact reason. Today's sequel wasn't needed, but I'm glad it exists. This is 2006's American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile.

MY THOUGHTS:
This movie basically asks, "What if a Stifler was a Jim?" And honestly, I love that. Is this movie great? No, but it's highly entertaining. Also, you may recognize the main character as the main kid from the Goosebumps episode The Haunted Mask II. We all grow up.

Bruce Campbell Comments On His 'Evil Dead' Future

There's been a lot of speculation over the last several years on whether or not original series star Bruce Campbell would ever make a return to the theatrical universe after TV's Ash vs. Evil Dead.

Well, it looks like we've seen the last of big screen Ash.

He tells the Detroit Free Press:

"We've moved away from Ash & Bruce Campbell."

"Evil Dead Rise made the most money [of any Evil Dead], and it validated that we can get away from those main elements."

Today's sequel is yet another remake. And this one arguably more controversial than Halloween (2007). Such a shame. This is 1998's Psycho.

MY THOUGHTS:
Once again, my opinion doesn't always follow the trend. I like Psycho '98. I see it less as a remake and more of an experiment. A modern, colorized, re-telling...with a few creative liberties. Sue me, I enjoy it.

'Romy And Michele 2' Begins Production

The silence on the Romy and Michele 2 front has been noticeable. Until today. A photo was released signaling the beginning of production.

Alan Cumming (Sandy Frink), Janeane Garofalo (Heather), Camryn Manheim (Toby) and Julia Campbell (Christie Masters) are confirmed to reprise their roles alongside the duo. Marlon Wayans Has An Idea For 'White Chicks 2'

The topic of White Chicks 2 keeps getting hotter and hotter. Marlon Wayans has already stated that the fate of a sequel depended on Scary Movie's success (which, it is succeeding).

So here's the latest. This is Marlon in response to someone suggesting that the sequel should take place at Mar-a-Lago:

“That’s not a terrible idea! I just had that conversation with my big brother and I shot him down. ‘White Chicks’ can go anywhere, but Mar-a-Lago and Florida would definitely be a fun place to make that happen and see our girls in that world. ‘White Chicks’ are like Medea — you can send them to space and they’ll be funny. I wanna do ‘A Very White Chicks Christmas.’ I have a different idea, but we’re discussing. And we’ll find the right place to put them.”

Love it or hate it, it doesn't matter. Scary Movie takes in over $56M at the box office in its opening weekend. Which, shocker, is a franchise-best. Scary Movie 7 is possible, but I wouldn't count your chickens just yet.

TV: 'The Cable Guy' Becoming A Reimagined Series

Yes, you read that correct. The 1996 film The Cable Guy is becoming a TV series for Hulu starring Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. (a New Girl reunion!). This updated version will remain heavily inspired by the movie while also doing it's own modern-day thing. The project is currently untitled.

Cable may be dying but The Cable Guy lives on — on streaming. Hulu has ordered a comedy pilot inspired by the Jim Carrey movie, with Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. attached to star and executive produce. The pilot order comes on the 30th anniversary of the Ben Stiller-directed black comedy which debuted in June 1996. The untitled project is produced by Sony Pictures Television, whose film studio sibling released The Cable Guy, and Sony TV-based Original Film (The Boys franchise).

And here's the official logline:

In a world of endless streaming, binging, and algorithms, old-school cable technician Chip Douglas (Johnson) languishes alone — until Steven Stephens (Wayans Jr.) calls to have his cable turned back on, reconnecting Chip with a childhood friend he never forgot. The original movie is an underrated gem. I can't wait to see how this series shakes out.

A new video game based on the Saw movie series is coming called Saw: Genesis. The trailer and synopsis was released today.

Faris, Hall Reveal Why They Didn't Appear In 'Scary Movie 5'

The Scary Movie franchise was blessed to feature both Regina Hall and Anna Faris all the way up to Scary Movie 5. But why didn't either of them appear in the fifth movie?

"One of the big things too for us, always, we always felt like if the other is there, we could do it. That's what happened in the Scary Movie before this. We both didn't do it. I was like, if we both don't do it, it doesn't feel right to have one without the other. They're like a Laverne and Shirley of their day."

So they're basically a package deal.

Faris recalls that the folks at Dimension Films, the company behind the film series since its inception in 2000, which used to operate as a division of Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Miramax Films, "didn't ask me to do Scary Movie 5. I like to think because of money, but I don't know." It also wouldn't have mattered without knowing her costar's feelings, because she "wouldn't have without Regina."

So Anna wasn't asked to return and it appears neither was Regina. Wow.

This is a sequel that gestated for quite some time before becoming reality. And one might think, maybe it should've stayed in the gestation stage. This is 2006's Basic Instinct 2.

BREAKDOWN:

Crime novelist Catherine Tramell is living in London, and becomes the center of police investigation (yet again) when her football player boyfriend drowns in a car accident and it is revealed that he was already dead of a drug overdose before Tramell drove the car into water. Police psychoanalyst Dr. Michael Glass is called for examining Tramell, and is intrigued by the seductive and manipulative woman. On the other hand , his friend Det. Roy Washburn is sure Tramell is guilty. Tramell asks Glass to treat her for her 'risk addiction' problem, and with each therapy session, Glass gets more and more suspicious about her intentions. As more and more murders are committed, including that of Glass' ex-wife, Glass becomes obsessed with proving Tramell's guilt although the evidence is contradictory.

MY THOUGHTS:
I don't remember much, but I do remember it's bad. Like, bad-bad. Also, undoubtedly confirming that Stone's character is the killer kind of messes with the mystique and ambiguity of the original.

I'm not too sure how the whole summer camp aspect will translate with modern audiences, but Meatballs is coming to the small screen.

Heated Rivalry‘s Robbie G.K. will next up be seen in a Bell Media series adaptation of cult classic comedy pic Meatballs.

Meatballs reimagines the 1979 film of the same name for Bell streamer Crave, and is billed as “a coming-of-age way-too late story that’s equal parts sweet and sexy” set in a failing summer camp that still has the potential to be the best place on earth for 200 kids – or the 30 counsellors who calle it their home away from home.

Sharon Stone Throws Shade At 'Basic Instinct' Remake

While chatting it up with Variety, Sharon Stone reflected on how her comedy roots were overshadowed by Basic Instinct and she makes a sly remark about the age of the remake's screenwriter and questions his can-do.

Just don’t expect Stone to dust off her ice pick any time soon. She makes it clear she won’t be reprising her role as femme fatale Catherine Tramell in the reboot of “Basic Instinct” that Joe Eszterhas is reportedly writing for Amazon MGM Studios.

“How old is Joe Eszterhas?” Stone asks as she Googles the screenwriter’s age. “Oh, he’s 81. So I bet he’s really an expert on what’s sexy.”

Yeah, I don't think she's a fan of this remake happening. Can't be any worse than Stone's own Basic Instinct 2.

Sydney Sweeney Starring In New 'Legend Of Sleepy Hollow' Adaptation

Here we go! A new movie retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is on the way simply titled Hollow. It's the infamous story told through the eyes of Katrina Van Tassel, who will be played by Sydney Sweeney.

Here is a hot package set to hit the market later this week that is sure to have a lot of studio execs losing their heads. Filmmaker and screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer has sold her debut novel, Hollow to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, and is now planning to turn that novel into a feature film with Sydney Sweeney attached to star.

Here's what Hollow is all about:

The novel is a bold reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told through the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel.
