Bucco to Sweeney: Allow Due Action to Close Fenimore Landfill

Senator Anthony Bucco (R-Morris) urges Senate President Steven Sweeney to immediately reconsider his political order made yesterday to cancel Monday’s hearing on S2617 to properly close and seal the hazardous Fenimore Landfill in Roxbury Township.

“Yesterday’s order by the Senate President directly keeps dozens of suffering local families and hundreds of area school students at risk,” Bucco said. “I’m concerned with protecting the people of this area from this hazardous situation.”

Senator Bucco noted that so far more than 150 residents and local officials have reached out to Democratic leaders in outrage over their horrific decision. Senator Bucco and co-prime sponsor of S2617 Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris) sent this letter today to Senator Sweeney, highlighting health issues and urging that this legislation receive its due hearing on Monday.

Route 46 Bridge in Dover Will Be Dedicated as “Officer Thomas E. DeShazo Memorial Bridge” on Saturday

The newly-renovated Route 46 Bridge in Dover will be dedicated as the “Officer Thomas E. DeShazo Memorial Bridge” on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 10 am.

DeShazo died from injuries sustained when the motorcycle he was riding crashed while escorting a member of Charles Lindbergh’s family on May 22, 1930. During his funeral, local merchants suspended businesses and hundreds of residents lined the streets to pay their respects to the eight-year police veteran.

Gov. Christie Signs Resolution Congratulating Israel on 65th Anniversary of Independence

Senators Tom Kean (R-21), Anthony Bucco (R-25) and Dawn Marie Addiego (R-8) joined Governor Chris Christie for the signing of SJR-70 on Monday, April 15, 2013. The legislators are co-sponsors of the Senate Joint Resolution congratulating Israel for 65 years of independence.

Kean said, “On the anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel, it is important that we reaffirm our support for Israel and its people. New Jersey and Israel share deep ties, both cultural and economic, that represent a unique friendship that we must make every effort to sustain.”

It is said that budgets show our priorities as a state, and for the fourth straight year this governor has proposed a budget that puts a priority on taking our state in a new, and I believe the right, direction.

Economic growth over growth in government.

Bucco on Transportation Budget Hearing: “New Jersey Has Top Notch Transportation Leadership Under Christie”

“Recognizing that New Jersey taxpayers are tapped out, Governor Christie and his administration are implementing a responsible Transportation Capital Plan that is making critical upgrades and repairs to infrastructure and creating a large number of good paying jobs. That is being done without asking New Jerseyans to reach deeper into their wallets. Critics complaining about a lack of additional revenue need to either tell the taxpayers of New Jersey how much more they want to take from their pockets, or stop complaining.

Bucco Bill Notifying Fire Departments of Medical Oxygen Service Stoppage Signed into Law

Legislation sponsored by Senator Anthony Bucco (R- Morris) regarding notification to local emergency responders of residential medical oxygen service has been signed into law.

The law, formerly S- 503, requires oxygen providers to give notice to local fire departments when service is terminated at a residence. Current law requires only that fire companies are notified when service begins, but makes no provision for notification if a patient discontinues oxygen use, moves, or dies.

Bucco Submits Legislation for State Takeover of Fenimore Landfill Closure

Citing resident concerns and frustration regarding a pervasive odor emanating from the Fenimore landfill in Roxbury Township and an inability of site developer Richard Bernardi to address the problem, Senator Anthony R. Bucco (R- Morris) has submitted legislation transferring responsibility for closure of the landfill to state officials.

“It has become clear to me, as well as everyone in the township, that Mr. Bernardi has no intention of living up to his promise of properly closing the landfill and turning the site into a solar energy farm,” said Bucco. “To this day he continues to violate his approvals to the detriment of the township’s residents. That is unacceptable.”

Bucco Bill Saving Morris County Taxpayers $400,000 Per Year Signed by Governor Christie

Legislation authored by Senator Anthony Bucco allowing the Morris County Freeholders to save taxpayers $400,000 by streamlining the administration of county elections has been signed by Governor Chris Christie.

The legislation, S-1856, enables the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders, as well as the governing bodies in other Class II counties, to enter into a three year pilot program that eliminates the county office of superintendent and deputy superintendent of elections.
