A Good Web Hosting?

There has been a lot of discussions about choosing the best web hosting lately and to sum it up, I can't really tell which one is better than the others because they are just so many of them and I must say I got a headache when choosing a professional business web hosting in the USA.

Well that all comes down to the user's taste. All paid web hosting service offers pretty much the same standard hosting features to their customers, what's different is of course their prices, packages and quality of the hosting.

The first thing I'll take into consideration when choosing a web hosting is the speed, bandwidth and uptime of its server because I will not want my visitors to wait for a long time as my website pages load slowly in front of them and showing them 404 pages all time which might screw up my website big time.

But I guess that is not that big of a problem for most web hosting unless you are using a free one. Secondly, a web host shall always support the latest version of web scripting languages such as CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, and PHP so webmasters can run all sorts of websites with that host. Last but not least, they should have the latest version of MySQL database.

Back in the year 2001, September 11 is one of the most sad, sorrow, painful, etc. experience for most people in the world. But there is this news that came out from the paper which 'does not' fall in the dark or unhappy category.

The first divorce directly related to September 11th terrorist attacks has been filed in New York.

It appears a guy with an office on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Centre spend the morning at his girlfriend's apartment with his phone turned off.

He wasn't watching TV either.

When he turned his phone back on at about 11AM, it rang immediately.

It was his hysterical wife, "Are you OK? Where are you?".

He said, "What do you mean? I'm in my office of course!"

Testing Out The Samsung F480

We get to lay our fingers on one of Samsung's touch screen mobile phones, the F480. Unlike its predecessor, the F490 and the similar model of it, the i900 Omnia, F480 is much shorter in size and a little bit different in terms of design. Still, all of them uses the same TouchWiz GUI (Graphical User Interface), which is quite simple and user-friendly.

However as compared to Apple's iPhone, the F480's overall features and usability are still far inferior from the iPhone, not to mention their latest 3G model.

"Hand-held"

The screen is not as touch-sensitive to begin with.

Well at least it has a powerful camera.

PS3 SIXAXIS Controller As PC Gamepad

Unlike most First Person Shooters and strategy games which are best played with mouse + keyboard combo, other genres of PC games such as Third Persons, RPGs, racers, sports, etc which require lots of actions, controls, button combinations and most of all, a full swing 360° movement, doing all these using a keyboard just plain sucks for many gamers, of course that includes me.

Thus, we've got to have an alternative, an all-in-one + handheld device = a GAMEPAD to put us out of this keyboard misery. For folks out there who own a Playstation 3, look no more, the saviour is right beside you, go grab it and play your PC games like how it's supposed to be played (duh, why PC since we've already got PS3? Relax... This post is just about the controller).

Enough crap, now how the hell do I get the SIXAXIS to work with my PC?

1. First, a PS3 SIXAXIS Controller of course

2. A USB 2.0 High Speed A to Mini-B 5(pin), or whatsoever cable they name it, which comes together with the SIXAXIS, used for charging purpose

3. The USB driver, download here, extract all the 3 files and install libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe

4. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC

5. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe (this file needs to be executed everytime you plug in your controller) and press the PS button once.

Test your SIXAXIS in Control Panel > Game Controllers > Properties

If everything goes well, you're ready to ROCK! Grab any PC games (FIFA, NFS, GRID, DMC4, etc) and start slamming your fingers.

Wait, now I'm confused about the keys, what the hell are these numbers? When customizing the keys, remember this:

For demonstration purpose, I tried it on Devil May Cry 4 which doesn't seem to run well on my noob PC but the buttons work like a charm.

Setting Up A Flash Header In Blogger

For many bloggers who tried setting up their flash animation (.swf) file as their blog header, simply typing the <embed> code in the blog template just doesn't seem to work and probably there's no way for you to edit the header part of your blog in the Page Elements customization.

Now there's a simple way to have a flash header without much tweaking of your template's HTML code. Login your Blogger account and head on to Layout > Edit HTML. Before doing anything please backup your template first.

Find the following code (might look a bit different for some other templates):

Change the no in showaddelement='no' to yes, this enables you to add gadgets on top of your header in the Page Elements customization in the future.

*optional*Change the number in maxwidgets='1' from 1 to any number you like if you want to setup more gadgets in the header part.

Remove the code coloured red, which is the current header you're using. Save template (you might be asked to confirm your Header1 deletion, just confirm) and head on to Page Elements.

Now you should be able to see the "Add a Gadget" box on the header part, click on it and add HTML/Javascript (if you don't see it, add the gadget from your sidebar, then shift it to the header).

Type in the <embed> code which looks like this (replace http://yourhost.com/yourflash.swf with the address of your .swf file):

Adjust the height and width number according to your flash size. The loop="false" code is to prevent your flash animation from repeating, so if you want your flash to be played repeatedly, remove that line. I'm pretty much sure you'll know how to deal with the rest of the code. Save the gadget and you're done.

If the flash is not in place, you might need to tweak the Header part of your template CSS stylesheet in Edit HTML that somewhat looks like this:

Blogumus Animated Label Cloud Widget

This is probably the coolest label widget for Blogger I've come accross so far. This widget is named Blogumus after the original Cumulus plugin created by Roy Tanck for Wordpress. All credits goes to Amanda from Blogger Buster for successfully converting the Blogumus and get it to work with Blogger powered blogs. Click on the Blogumus and simply hover around it to see the animation in action.

Installing the widget

There's been a lot of economic crisis happening around the world these few years, not to mention the recent fall of the US stock market and rise of oil price earlier back then. You have to check out the "New Super Mario Bros." site at Nintendo. This game is made for the Nintendo DS platform. It offers the usual gameplay with cooler graphics and control! Doubles the graphic, triple the fun!

Actually I accidentally bounce to this site by no reason. What I wanted to tell is that the interactive site on the downloads area [green pipes at the left side], you can grab yourself a bunch of wallpaper and here's a couple of them.

LED Text Scroller Widget v2

It's been a while since we did a major change on our blog's template and design, approximately 4 months back, and we got rid of a lot of our blog widgets, such as the digital clock, music player as well as the TEXT SCROLLER just to make our new blog look as simple and as cool as possible!

But we just miss the old text scroller thingy so much and we thought of putting it back on our blog. Yet we had no luck finding one that could match our new blog's style. Hence, we did a search again a few days ago and finally found the cool LED text scroller v2 from MyFlashFetish (the same website that we had our previous text scroller).

How it looks like? It's just on top of our blog! It's font size is much bigger than their previous text scroller and looks a lot better now without the border showing their website below the text. Just compare:

Setting up the widget:

Type in a text > pick your favourite colours (for v2: color 1: upper text, color 2: lower text, color 3: border or choose from their preset styles) > save > copy the code > log into your blogger account > customize layout > page element > choose where you want to put the scroller > add html/javascript gadget, paste the code and voila, there you have it!

Editing the widget:

To put things simple, I pasted the code on wordpad and coloured some parts of the codes.

Remove everything that's coloured red to get rid of the unnecessary links and positioning. You can change your text scroller colours by altering the 6 alphanumeric colour codes (mycolor: upper text, mycolor2: lower text, mycolor3: border).

To change the scrolling text to be displayed, change the text coloured in green, which is next to &txt=. The length of the scroller can be altered by increasing or decreasing the value in width="600" (coloured in purple). Lastly the alignment code coloured gray, which is "left", "right" or "middle".
