My poor neglected blog!! I feel so bad but life has been busy and full of lots of good things but now I'm ready to get back in the swing of things. Today we start off a week long product swap with the amazing company Simple Stories. Their lines are so colorful, full of life, and just make you happy. "Summer Vibes" is the incredible line that my Design Team and I got to play with for this swap. Please be sure to stop by the AFFB blog and the Simple Stories blog to see what these talented ladies have created with this fun paper line and my flair. I am sure you will be inspired. I did a little project of my own and decided to share it here on my own blog.
I had a wooden frame that I've had sitting around for sometime and thought it would make a great way to showcase Simple Stories "Summer Vibes" line and the custom flair made to coordinate with it. I took the glass out and covered the back of the picture piece with the stand with two layers of cork and then placed it back in the frame. I used pieces from the "Summer Vibes" sticker sheet to decorate the top of the frame and then used the word phrases to cover the rest of the frame opening in two layers. Next I added a thumbtack to the back of a few pieces of flair using Superglue and used those to hold my photos to the cork. I did use a couple of stickers to the back of a couple pieces of flair and then added my thumbtack. Flair is SO versatile and fun. You can order flair with open backs and add magnets to them to hold those fun Summer photos to your fridge! I hope you enjoyed my quick, easy, and fun frame project. Be sure to stop by the AFFB blog and Simple Stories Blogs for a chance to win two $50 to spend in the flair shop! All you need to do is leave a comment. THere will be a new designer sharing their project everyday July 6-11. Thanks for stopping by!

Canvas Corp Brands is giving away a $50 gift card to a lucky winner. Please head over to their blog for the details. While your there you will see some great inspiration from the Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew and one of our first challenges....a Valentine's Day card! I love how everyone's is so different. So many styles and all so amazing! I kept mine pretty simple.
First with my Canvas Corps Kraft Card I folded it in half and cut out a heart shape. I saved that piece and cut it a bit smaller, stamped on it with a woodgrain stamp. Next I lined my card with chalkboard paper. I placed my stamped heart back inside the cut out heart and glued it in place. With a liquid chalk pen I drew dots around the stamped heart.
Using a ruler I drew random straight lines across and then doodled/wrote in the empty spaces! I added a piece of Canvas Corp Canvas Fringe to keep my card closed.
The inside of my card I used a piece of the heart that I had left from the front and glued it into the inside of my card and then wrote a sentiment with my liquid chalk pen!
Don't forget to stop by and have a chance to win your $50 gift card to shop at Canvas Corp Brands! I am just thrilled to be a part of this amazing Creative Crew and to get to work with such fabulous products! Happy Creating!
Lately I have just been too busy or just not around to get much creating done....until recently. I am excited to spill the beans that I am now a Creative Crew Member for Canvas Corps Brands! I couldn't be more pleased! I love their products and I am going to have such a great creative time playing. Here is my first challenge which was a 4x4 canvas representing ourselves. Well I love to travel so that was my theme. Here is my canvas!
I love all the canvas, burlap, and other unique products and papers that Canvas Corps has. Creating for them will be a real joy! Please stop by their online shop and their blog for product info and some amazing inspiration. I will have another project up in February!
This week I also have a Valentine's project up on the Maya Road DT blog! I love combining my love of thrifting and scrapping and this project is the combination of those two. Of course I had to add some of my flair to the project as well!
Have a great weekend and happy creating!!!
I know Christmas is over but I forgot to share these little baskets I made using Maya Road Products! You can see the full post HERE! There are so other amazing projects by the team there too that you should stop by and check out! I hope you all had a great Christmas!
When I opened the Maya Road "Sparkle & Shine" kit I was blown away by all the fabulous goodies inside! This kit is so amazing and I would love to share with you what I created with just a few of the items inside. I chose to use these items to decorate gifts for the holiday season. The one on the right is a gift for my daughter for Christmas and the one on the left is a take-out box that I will fill with yummy goodies.
First I took the take-out box apart and laid it flat. Next, I took the self-stamper that comes in the kit and randomly stamped on the box. I put the box back together and added some other pieces and it's ready to give to someone special. To make the other box I used some postal wrapping paper and again stamped randomly on the paper and then wrapped the gift! I LOVE the Gold Glitter tape from Maya Road and used it to embellish my gift. Some tulle trim, burlap flower, and gold leaves and my gift was complete!
For these projects I stamped again on the postal paper and wrapped a rectangular box and a paper mache cone. I added Maya Road twine, some flair, the wire Christmas tree, the gorgeous kraft tag, and amazing wooden buttons to finish them off.
The great thing about this kit is that I did all this with only a few of the items in the kit. It is SO jam packed full of goodness you will be inspired to create at your heart's content. There are items in the kit to construct cards, alter the box it came in, or create projects like mine. The possiblities are really endless. You will not be disappointed with this kit. It's the gift that literally keeps giving!
I have not had a moment since I returned from my PNW trip to really get a post up about my time there. I will do that one of these days! It was an EPIC trip to say the least. I can't think of a better way to end the year that I turned the big 5-0! What I can share with you is some altered items I did for Maya Road's upcoming Quilt Show debut! Maya Road has SO many products that cross-over perfectly for sewing projects. I created a few more of my cone "trees" and also did an altered sewing box to display all the gorgeous pins that Maya Road offers!
When Maya Road does something they do it right! THe latest "Bountiful Memories" kit is NO exception! If you are looking for a kit FULL of great products head on over to order yours now. Not only do you get the goodies but Maya Road offers samples of projects you can create with your kit or at least give you a jumping off point to make your own! Here's what's in the kit!
I am so happy that my shop "A Flair for Buttons" is the contributor of exclusive flair for Maya Road's kits! You won't find these flair anywhere else! And they fit perfectly with everything in this kit! :)
Caroline and Julia have done such a great job putting this kit together! Be sure to check out their Facebook page Maya Road and the blog for more project ideas, giveaways, product discussion1!
Time just got away from me this weekend! I wanted to share my post over on Els Brige's blog where she invited me to be a weekend guest blogger! You can check it out HERE. While you are there be sure to check out the other guest bloggers before me! Great inspiration and ideas! Have a great week!
Have you seen Maya Road's new kit Creative Destinations? HOW cute is this!!!! I love everything travel so this kit really speaks to me! I might have had something do to with those adorable flair buttons in that kit too!!!! :) This kit would be perfect for that Summer vacation project you need to do!!! Here's a look at what is in the kit!
It seems like Summer is just whizzing by! I celebrated my 50th birthday all week long thanks to my family and friends. I did my first Color Vibe race with my kids and the River Run with my parents...What a blast! I road tripped to The Outerbanks in North Carolina with my best girlfriends, took my niece's Senior pictures (can't believe she can be at that stage in her life!), made buttons, joined a gym and worked! I took my folks to Chicago to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday and got to go to a Cubs game! Now we are getting ready for the next adventure which is a road trip to the North East quadrant of the US and Quebec, Canada! I am truly blessed and so grateful for all the experiences I have had in my life and I am only getting started!! I am still on my weightloss journey (down 43 lbs since January 5, 2014) and feeling better than I have in many many years! I hope you are having a great Summer and are enjoying your life too!
I had the pleasure of using Becky's June Page Maps template along with some Maya Road goodness to create this page. I am a little rusty at creating a layout but Becky's "map" makes it so easy! Here is the sketch and my take on it! Please stop by Becky's page and the Maya Road DT page to see how other's used this amazing page map!
I covered my Maya Road Chipboard letters with MR Glitter Tape (gold)! I love that stuff! I stamped on the wooden heart that you see on the globe. I also used the glitter tape to tape my photos to my page. Since Becky had a camera on her template I decided to use the black transparency camera by MR. I also used the package chipboard pieces from my stash to create my journal card, a photo mat, and the two pieces sticking out of the left top corner. And I love those MR manilla tags so I just had to add one that I stamped on with a MR stamp to finish off my layout! Thanks again to Becky Fleck for the opportunity to use her newst Page Map! I had a blast!
Today is Autism Awareness Day! My adult son Jordan who is now 22 was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3. I can't imagine my life without him and Autism is just a small part of this incredible human being that is my son. I thank God for my family and friends for being so supportive and accepting of my beautiful boy. I thank God for allowing us to live in a community that embraces, supports, and encourages him to be the very best he can be. That's what we want for all of our children. I am thankful that Regina Education Center for employing him and for the incredible people at Goodwill of the Heartland for being his support at work. We live such a blessed life here and we are truly thankful. I love you Jordan! Mom

I am a big fan of "junking"! One of my favorite people in the world of junking is KI Nassauer. She is the editor of Flea Market Style Magazine and creator of an event call "Junk Bonanza" which is held twice a year in Minnesota.I have one of her early books and buy the magazine every time it comes out. It is chalked full of amazing ideas and inspiration using vintage items that they repurpose. At "Junk Bonanza" vendors from all over the country come to share their goodies of upcycled and vintage items! I have been creating and adding more junk flair to my shop and in a couple of weeks some of those will be selling at "Junk Bonanza"! Ki's daughter Taylor contacted me this week and will be selling my junking flair at the event! I couldn't be more excited! The flair is pin backed so it is perfect to wear on your clothing, a bag, a camera bag, hat, you name it! So if you are heading to the event look for my custom junking flair pins! The junking flair pins have also been a big hit with retailers of "junking" stores who have purchased custom buttons made with their businesses name on them or the junking sayings! I will be adding more sets to the shop soon and don't forget you can ALWAYS create your own sets using ANY of my flair in the shop! Have a great and crafty weekend!
About a month or so ago I ordered my first set of Origrami prints from Australia! They were amazing. Instagram photos printed like Polaroid photos. I love them so much a sent away for another round of photos and this time tried their square photos!!! Wow is all I can say! I love them so much. Great quality, incredibly cute packaging, and FREE delivery!
I decided I would display them on a metal ceiling tile I have hanging by my front door. I simply put a magnet on the back of the photo and placed them on the metal tile. I love that I can rearrange them whenever I want and swith them out for other photos when the mood hits me! If you haven't checked them out please head over to their site! THere are options on what you want printed on the back. I love that they will put your caption on the back or the geomap of where it was taken! BRILLIANT!
My 21 year old son Jordan has Austim. It doesn't define who he is but it has been a part of him that has made for interesting and challenging times. Today I saw something that made me cry....with happiness and a bit of pride. Letting me know that all those bad times were worth it. As I was dropping him off to his Day Hab program that he attends while I am at work,I saw him greet another fellow Day Hab attendee and his mother. "Good Morning...how are you?" he asked. The next part is rote but I don't care... Jordan ALWAYS answers "I am fine...I'm really good". Sometimes he even has his answer out before he's even asked! (I love that about him!) He then proceeded to open the door for the two people he had just greeted and then looked at me and said "Bye Mom". Seriously...I bawled as I drove away. About 19 years ago I lost my once babbling son to Austim and there was no communication... nothing. As I observed my son that morning I was flooded with emotion. It struck me how far he has come...how much he has conquered...how much he has learned and applied to the world around him. Yes you can be around him for a bit and realize that something is different but by heavens this boy just wants to be like everyone else. He won't of course and quite honestly I wouldn't want him too. He IS Jordan...everything about him makes him Jordan. I wouldn't change a thing. He has touched so many lives and their lives have touched him. He is truly an amazing person and I learn something new about him all the time. He is funny and has a sense of humor. He recently teased me...I loved it! He is smart, quick, and stealthy. He has an incredible memory and knows ALOT about Disney and movies in general. He can get you anywhere you need to be because he is a human GPS. He loves hugs and baths. I could go on and on. He makes people smile wherever he goes. He has no fears (besides bugs), no expectations, no worries. He loves unconditionally and is a joy to be around. I see him blossoming into this young man coming into his own and it makes me happy. Autism is not an easy thing to live with. It has consumed and dictated how we have lived our lives....but I can't imagine living any other way. I thank my son for reminding me how wonderful life is and how very lucky we are to have each other.
Jordan got to walk at graduation two years ago but it wasn't until yesterday that he recieved his diploma! What a great day it was. Transitions Services hosted a very intimate and emotional ceremony yesterday to recognize this year's graduates. Jordan was so happy and he had a great time sharing the day with friends and teachers. He sang the "National Anthem" and got to eat cake and ice cream too! I can't say enough about the Special Education teachers and staff in the Iowa City Community School District. They have been the coolest and most loving people I have ever known. They have loved Jordan and advocated for him as if he was their own for the last 18 years. That is something I can never repay someone for. I am so very proud of my boy and so excited that he has accepted a job where he is working now for the Fall. Look at that smile.....seriously how can I NOT be happy! Congratulations to you my Jordman....YOU DID IT!!!!!!

Here are some of her latest designs and a layout by me using her new Kraft patterns!
I received this fabulous little containers from Le Box Boutique Etsy a couple of weeks ago and had a chance this weekend to create with them.
Supplies needed: Biogradeable containers, twine, and straws from Le Box Boutique. Spray adhesive, glitter, patterned paper, circle punch, postal wrapping paper, glue gun, and fabric trim.
For this project I sprayed the container with adhesive and applied a liberal amount of glitter. When dry I added a piece of floral foam in the base of the container and topped it with shredded kraft paper. I tied some twine around the top of the container and added a sentiment to the front. To make the pinwheels I cut a 2x2 and 2.5x2.5 pieces of paper and constructed my pinwheels. With hot glue I add a piece of straw to the back of my pinwheel. I added some flair from my shop to the center of the pinwheel and pushed them into place into the floral foam!
The garland behind the project I also made using twine and alternating pieces of straws and circle punched paper!
The second project I used the same container. This time I tore pieces of postal wrapping paper and twisted them and then glued them to the container. I created the fabric flower in the center with trim and added a vintage milk cap to the center. Again, I placed a piece of floral foam and covered it with shredded kraft paper. Next, I took to straws and cut them to the size I wanted. With a sharp xacto knife I cut a small slit on both sides of the top of the straw to create a photo holder. I also created another pinwheel and decorated it with flair.
The winners are:
Melissa Hurdle and Amy Johanssen! Please email me at kidsmom1999@yahoo.com to claim your prize! Thanks to everyone who stopped by! Have a great rest of the weekend!
The girls at Le Box Boutique sent me some incredible goodies to create some Easter baskets! Le Box Boutique would like to give two of those baskets away to you! All you have to do is leave a comment here. For more chances to win "like" Le Box Boutique on Facebook, become a follower and leave a comment on Le Box Boutique's blog and share the post!! Be sure to stop by their Etsy store to see all the wonderful products they have available! Here are the prizes!
This basket was made using Le Box Boutique's Pint Sized Wooden Berry Basket, Washi Tape, and Twine! (other materials include, spools, glitter, vintage trip, buttons, wire, Easter grass)
**********************************************************************************************************************
The second Easter basket is made from Le Box Boutique's Kraft Take Out Boxes! First I painted the outside of the box with Pink Chalkboard Paint so you will be able to write whatever sentiments you would like on the box. The handle is wrapped with Twine and I added a tag (also painted with chalkboard paint). You can use this tag over and over again by just wiping it clean and adding a name! I am not the greatest artist but this will come blank for you to decorate with chalk how you would like! It can be used for more than just Easter too!
Come visit me over at Le Box Boutique for a fun way to decorate some adorable kraft boxes! Le Box Boutique has a great selection of products that you will just love! Le Box Boutique's products have been featured in Better Homes and Garden's Food and Gift Magazine, Southern Living, and Martha Stewart's Wedding Magazine. Their products are a great starting point for crafters and DIY enthusiasts! Here is what I created using their Kraft Natural Gift Boxes, Washi tape, and Twine!
I so LOVE Pinterest! What a great place for inspiration and ideas. If you are like me you pin a lot but never seem to get to recreate those ideas that I keep pinning! I have decided that I am going to try and not just "PIN" but "DO"! Here is one of my pins from a recent pinning session!
Painting sea shells!!!!!
I have collected a lot over my years of traveling and most of them are in jars and labelled as to what trip and what year I took that trip. I did have some extras and I did find a huge bag of shells at a second hand store for a $1! Here is how mine turned out!
This was a little glass bowl I had and I just filled it with a bit of white sand my spray painted shells, and a piece of twine!
This project I just used a glass cake stand, added some sand, shells, and a photo holder and photo. I love having little vignettes around my house that remind me of places I love and that I can change out quickly. I used Krylon Premium Silver Foil Metallic for these projects. I have to tell you that I am in love with this paint! The coverage is amazing. It only took one coat to make these beauties shine!!! This was such a fun and rewarding project and didn't cost much at all since I used things I had around my house already! I look forward to doing another Pinterest inspired project very soon!!!
Ok...so I really need to post about these two girls and spread the love! They are both incredible designers both traditionally and digitally! First off is my friend Robyn Meierotto. Welcome to the Kiwi Lane Blog Hop! I had the great pleasure of using one their Mini Scallops template. They are great for scrapping, card making, and so many other projects. I used mine in several different ways! Kiwi Lane is giving away a $25 gift certificate to one winner. Continue to hop to all the contributors sites as well as on their blog! You also have a chance to win if you stop by Scrapbooksteals.com!
Here what I created with my Mini Scallops template:
I used the template to create my own background design on kraft paper. I simply used some colored pencils and my white Signo pen and traced the template. I also created the middle part of my page (the gray part) by tracing on just one side of the patterned paper and cutting. The yellow patterned paper was also traced, cut, and then folded on the bottom part of my photo. The fabric flower was also created by tracing with the template onto dyed fabric. I handstitched the bottom edge and then gathered the fabric to create the flower. I layered some cut pieces on the top of my photo as well.
I love incorporating fabric into my designs so I decided to make by next project made with my Kiwi Lane Template completely out of fabric! Here is my scallop bunting project.
I used the largest template from the Mini Scallop set and traced and cut them out of some thick duck cloth. Next, I cut each "scallop" out into individual pieces. Using my sewing machine and some clear thread I began sewing each individual scallop, leaving a small space in between each scallop and also allowing some extra on the end to hang the banner when finished. It turned out so cute and you can never have enough bunting in your home! This would work greate for a little ones birthday or any holiday! I kept mine pretty simple but you could embellish the bunting as well.
I hope you enjoyed my projects! Hop on over to the next blog to see what the rest of the girls did with their templates! Remember to leave a comment for your chance to win!

This year instead of getting each other a lot of gifts we decided to rent a home (Red Elk Lodge) in Branson, Mo. My family is from Omaha and I am from Iowa City so it was about a 7 hour trip for all of us. We had a great time playing games, relaxing, gaming, visiting, eating, goint into town, cooking, and just hanging out. There was timber to explore, a fire pit for marshmallows at night and a huge wrap around deck where we drank coffee, read books, listened to music, watched bald eagles, and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. Really it was one of the most relaxing Christmas vacations ever. No places to be, no need to know what time it was. Best of all there was Wi-fi so we could play on our computers and Ipads! Here are a few shots from out time. We all headed home on Christmas Day and my parents headed to Texas where they live in the Winter. I would highly reccommend this place! Now it's back to reality!
I can't believe he is 21!! Where has time gone? I am so proud of this boy. When he was diganosed with Autism at age 3 and was completely nonverbal I wondered what would become of my sweet boy. Well..he is an amazing young man. I am so proud of all that he has accomplished and it would not have been possible without all the wonderful family, teachers, and friends who have helped him along the way. I am so proud of the young man he is today and I look forward to seeing what he will accomplish in the days ahead! I love you Jordy!
I am not sure what he was going for here but I think he was giving me a goofy pose!
My good friend Robyn Meierotto is having an incredible retirement sale over at Design House Digital. All her kits are 50% off!! Robyn has some of the most incredible digital goodies out there for digital/hybrid scrappers! And at half off you just can't beat that kind of deal. What a great opportunity to stock up!
