Enter Stagga... I can't quite remember how i managed to stumble over this guy, but what i do remember is how refreshed i felt after i did... Dub-Step is definitely a sound that is experiencing that flood/saturation that all good underground genres eventually experience. There's producers popping up left right and center and there's a lot of stock-standard same-old same-old stuff being put out. So, fuck that, and enter Stagga. I first heard his track 'Robotomy', and it really grabbed me. It's not thrash out bass, it's not too duby, and it's not so out there that you can't get in to it. It does have deep bass, it's got a great hook (phone-call on blast), fun samples (Futurama!) and a swingin dubstepa rythm - really a fresh sounding track. It's not throw your hands up kinda stuff, but shit, it's catchy as fuck.

The radness doesn't stop there, we got another track, Timewarp. Due to come out on Robox, (with an absolutely killer remix by our mates Chesus & Rodski) the tune don't disappoint. Once again it's got it's own style to it, and doesn't just focus on the low end taking over the entire tune. This one's got a lot of trip to it, and gets you rockin back.

This 12 came through my local over the weekend and grabbed me straight away. I'd never heard of a Birmingham based producer named Emvee until now but this record served as a pretty decent introduction. I'm kind of stuck when describing the sound which is a good thing but if I had too, i'd say it's a mix between minimal garage and uk funky. The a side is solid but i'll put my bets on the flip which is laced with that world feel I can't get enough of right now. Vinyl and download of the full release are available through Juno. Going by what I'v been posting so far this year, there's no denying I'm a big fan of what's coming out of Argentina at the moment. ZZK records are just killing it in the tropical beats department and show no signs of slowing down with a totally bullet proof roster of artists. Not so long ago they released their second edition ZZK sound, a compilation of work perfectly summing up the signature sound they have come to represent over the past year. I'm not going to offer some crazy exclusive blog track, that'd be over-kill cause all you need to do is to visit their site where you can buy any tracks you like off the comp for $1 each which is pretty damn fair.

I just can't help but share something though so lets have some heat by Sonido Del Principe. This first appeared on Bersa Discos vol4 and immediately blew me away with its slow rave sound. It's now come back on ZZK vol#2 which is good because no one should be allowed to sleep.

- just a funky lil remix from Riva that he put up on his twitter. Not his greatest (there's soooo many greats out there of his) but it's good fun, and i'll def play it...

Anyway the juic was, that i found him mentioning that the latest Funk Mundial #10 on Man Recs is a banger. (I'm sure you've read us give heaps of love to this series, as it just produces hit after hit, and is always forward thinking.) The release description says it's by Ghengis Clan, who "...is the new project by a well known London based crew of producers which prefer to stay incognito." I'm gonna go ahead speculate that that group of producers is Mowgli/Solo/Riva Starr/Zombie Disco Squad, as they all produce together, and have studios all in the same street in London. Surely it is yeah? Who knows these days, everyone is some1 else...

...wow, it's almost like i'm a real journalist, i just need some paparazzi shots...

CLUB CLUB - Retry

I just realised that my last post got taken down so i thought i better throw it back up again but ill hide the mixtape tracklist in the comments section...

I had some spare time so i thought i would quickly post up a couple of things i have done over the last 2 weeks. The first one is a mix tape i did up before our show with DJ Sega in June (which btw was HUGE, thanks to everyone that came out for it!), its all club music and I'm really proud of it.

Dancehall Drop

The influence that dancehall has right now is pretty hard to overstate with so many big tunes still using air-horns and vocal snippets for added hype. Even on a more subtle level though the bugged out percussion, synths and effects of club music at the moment seem to borrow heavily from Jamaican music. All this has been made blindingly obvious by last week's release of the Major Lazer album I know but hey, any excuse to post some heat right? This here selection represents my three favorite riddims all getting heavy play in my sets right now.

First up Timberlee and Ward 21 on Rae Riddim. Her voice always has such a sense of urgency to it, switching effortlessly between two perfectly contrasting styles. Rae Riddim is so minimal and bad ass with that saw tooth bass directed squarely at the dancefloor.

Next up is Warrior Queen on Piano Riddim with The Heatwave's beats such a perfect match for her calm and casual flow.

Finally South Rakkas and Bounty Killer on their very own Bionic Ras Riddim. The wobbly bassline and stabs of synth strings sounding like some Toddla T style production. Definitely a strong UK garage / bashment feel going on here.

Well very late announcement but we only just orginised this as a last minute gig with the cats over at Streetparty. All free and all very last minute but we have the guys from Classixx and also Neoteric tonight at eurotrash.

For those of you not in the know Classixx are a production crew from L.A. that have been released on comps like Kitsuni Maison and had their video "I’ll Get You" directed by Cobrasnake. They do the electro sound really well but will be playing a chill set I think tonight.

Neoteric is a cat from Canada who plays all kinds of party madness. I played with him last Saturday and was pretty much blown away by the dudes skills and selection. Which, I guess I should be considering he is A&R for Dubsided and also part of the Smoke & Mirrors colab with U-Tern.

Ill be paying in between the two with the streetparty dj's holding down the rest of the club. Set times are below. What else can you do on a Tuesday for free except watch "All Saints".... Yawn!

Sydney Wrap Up

This mighta been like 3 weeks ago, but it's still fresh in my memory. Me and Mu got up to sydney with The Troublemakers for a show at the Chinese Laundry. It was real rad. Serious, they know how to party up there. Not only was every act amazing, but the crowd fucken got into it. I was walking around the club before my set when The Hump Day Project were playing, and seriously every motherfucker in that place was dancing. There wasn't one chinstroker to be seen!

The troublemakers consist of a big crew of peeps who make music, DJ and put on nights, kinda like we do. In fact, it was rad finding a whole group of dudes who you can really make a music connection like that, especially when it's just one state over. I mean they're into similar stuff as us, they play it nice and hype, they're starting to get into all this new hype minimal shit we're getting into as well. On top of that they're production is sounding on point. We got to listen to Big Trouble by Derty Rich and Steve Lind which was dope. And the Hump Day Remix of Hornbo is so off the fucken hook (expect it out soon). Just seems like they're on a similar tip - so it's great fun doing stuff with them.

If all goes to plan, expect to see more of them down here at our shows, and more of us up there at theirs - we just had the hump day down for the massive Nasa show (pic above) - man they do a rad show.

I felt i' had to do a post, laden with a few bits of dope that kept me dancing long into the night. After the Slap & Dash set Marky Mark & King Lee got up. At dinner earlier they said they were gonna play some dubstep, but then shiiiit they unleashed a bunch of techy stompers. It was one of those moments where you find yourself running up and checking track names like every second song. I found one other guy in the crowd who had hands up, and seemed to know like every bloody song, and then some. Turned out to be Tom Yum (check his Canopy mix tape series). He hit me with some heat quick smart, half of the tracks below came from him ;)

So tracks, first was one that just really stuck out for me at the laundry for some reason. It's a little bit blokey and wiled out, so not exactly the shaking, bounce feel i been looking for in this kinda music, it's just really hard to pass up. That synth is so quietly relentless, if that makes any sense. Really gets you into a shoulder rhythm... Goes great over stuff too - only thing is the builds are kinda crazy big and long, so i gotta do an edit i think, but you know, cue points bitch! More Alvita tunes here.

Alvita - Freaky Motherfucker (alt link)

Afrojack has really taken me over lately. It took me a while to get into his tunes, purely because i was getting him mixed up with Aeroplane, so didn't give em a proper listen. Then when i found out that generation bass edit was of his remix, i got taken. This is another tune with that signature bass tone/sound of his. At first i was a little what the hell, he keeps using the same preset, how am i meant to play more than one track out. But then heard him talk about the importance of having a distinctive sound; " In my opinion it should have something recognizable, doesn't have to be original percé, but for me the sound has to be either big or very different, but still has to sound good in the clubs." [House Depot interview]. That's fair enuf in my book, and i gotta say i've gotten into each track so much that i don't have any trouble playing a couple of his tunes in the one set. On this remix of Steve Angello & Laidback Luke he really cuts loose - uses elements of the original eloquently, whilst adding his own sound and freak out to perfection.

This Dave Darell remix of Klingenberg gets reaaalll carnival, which i kinda love. There's a really thin line between radness and heavy cheese with these kinda tunes, but this one's totally in the awesome category. The beat is real driving, and makes the drums kinda tech, but the horns and percussion really make it wile out a bit and feel more worldy. Grab more Dave Darell from here.

I reckon this next track has to be my pic of the bunch. It's so fucken hard and driven, but so damn party and hype. I'm still recovering from the mega-bomb of Phiily club that Sega dropped on us here in Melbourne last week and I now find myself getting organized for yet another massive night. So big I don't even know where to start actually, sitting at the computer feeling quite overwhelmed.

Anyhow here we go, tomorrow night is friday 5th and if you get to the Espy you will come across a full venue gig featuring the likes of............deep breath: N.A.S.A, Dave Nada, Slap n' Dash, Yacht Club Dj's, Hump Day Project, Paz, Mat Cant, Opulent Dj's and some really amateur guy named Lewis CanCut. Phew. If you've made to previous gigs Scatterblog has touched at the Espy you'll know how things work. Basically there are no warm up acts, just a hype as all hell party from the time doors open.

As mentioned in an earlier post there will also be a series of N.A.S.A tracks remixed by members of Scatterblog, released right here as free downloads! This post brings you remix number one, my own version of Whatchadoin? feat MIA, Santogold, Nick Zinner and Spank Rock. Working with parts from such a dope selection of vocalists meant I had to keep pinching myself in the studio to check isht was real. Thanks N.A.S.A!

UUMMMPPPHHH. Sega is like Genos' in Philly, dont leave town without checking it.

Sega Saturday Night does not mean a 50 sack, Doritos and Sonic Hedge Hog. It is the almighty Dj Sega of Philladelphia PA, throwing down the 130 bpm club heat at the Espy. I went with Dj Ransom and Kicks 79 to see Sega at a Brick Bandits throw down last year. The whole show was amazing and we caught Joe and Sega the next night who were in the process of recording material for Guns Garcia.

The minimal world, midget, zulu house onslaught just keeps rolling on here at scatterblog and while that's the case things just wont feel quite right until one man gets a mention. Recently entering into the spotlight along with acts such as Zombie Disco Squad and Mowgli, UK producer Solo has been instrumental in the current move towards a more stripped back sound in the club. This is most evident with recent release on Dirtybird, one of those great moments where a global musical shift is captured in a single track.

Currently he is working on a series of bootlegs for use in his dj sets over the coming European summer and was kind enough to send one though for us to share. Anyone who copped his remix with Mowgli of Elite Forces's No Turning Back (buy here) better believe he knows what to do when remixing a break. .

Well where do I start. Things are changing in club world at the moment with the move to the minimal sound pretty much taking over. There is a fine line between minimal and minimal party. For me Im really feeling the more worldly side of minimal that artists like Zombie Disco Squad, Radioclit, Douster, Renaissance Man, and Afrojack are making. Recently I received an email from EDU K that contained a whole bunch of his new works. I went friggin crazy. I was not expecting a style change of this magnitude. Every single tune was banana's and exactly what I am hunting down at the moment. He has nailed this sound to a T. I was so freaked out I just had to talk to him about this new direction and whats causing the stir world wide. He has also been rad enough to let me post three of my favourite tunes he sent through. Read the interview and be blown away by the music. This man is always at the forefront so listen up.

Mu-Gen: Ok so we have all been following you a while now and have watched you transition your style over the years through all sorts of genres. From baile to rock to rave and now this whole new "world minimal" thing you got going on... Can you fill us in on what motivates you to change your sound so often? And how is it so on point all the time?

Edu K: Hahaha, I dunno about it being’ “so on point”, hehe but, when it comes 2 changin’ all the time like there’s no tomorrow, haha, I have always been like that, from day one. I dunno what it is, maybe some kind of disease, hehe, but, when I start feelin’ the itch I can’t do nothin’ but follow my heart n’ dive head on in a whole new universe – that’s what keeps it fresh n’ fun 4 me – I’d fuckin’ die if I would have 2 keep doin’ the same stuff on n’ on. I’m also very curious so, I’m always excited by a new challenge! But I get inspired by all kinds of different stuff 2, not just music. Sometimes it’s a line inna movie, sometimes it’s comic books, sometimes it’s something I heard on the streets, sometimes it’s the TV n’ on n’ on. There’s so much happenin’ all the time that it’s hard not be 2 to be runnin’ around with ideas burnin’ in the back of your mind every minute of the day, hehe!

Mu-Gen: Can you describe what it is your playing/making now? And how the hell do you do it(-ie- what u using)?

Edu K: Hahhaa, I dunno..i think tags are very limiting. If there’s like a true need 4 that everybody should have their own, hehe! This kind of music has been called different names thru the years – at first the godfathers, Zombie Disco Squad (along with Radioclit), called it Zulu house, then Mowgli and Solo called it Midget ( minimal fidget), you are calling it World Minimal, hehe. But, in therms of sounds n’ shit it’s a mix of the minimal thing, with very stripped arrangements n’ reverb drenched skinny percussive synths with the house groove n’ feeling and the bangin’ drums of Africa n’ Brasil spiced with the fidget punch minus the traditional rave sound it brought back 2 fashion in its heyday. I think we’re all goin’ thru a huge Electro/Fidget hangover, hehe – peeps are lookin’ for different sounds n’, of course, a lil’ less noise in the club 4 a change, hehe! As in what I use to do it, my main tool is Reason runnin’ thru a PC, hahaha!

Mu-Gen: The world seems so much more accepting and connected (internet) to different dance music cultures these days. What countries modern dance culture are you following?

Edu K: Well, yes indeed - I, as a Brasilian producer/dj with an international carrer thanx 2 the internet, can’t deny that the world connection thru the net is mind blowin’ but, at the same time the flipside is that everything n’ everybody is lookin’ more n’ more the same – the local factor has lost a lil’ bit of its flame! The downside of globalization might as well be the risin’ of a certain lack of individualism, generally speakin’. But, yeah, at the same time it’s the most amazing thing – I can find out about a new act, like Finnish duo Femme En Fourrure (you can check ‘em on my myspace top friends) n’ right away get in touch with them, exchange trax n’ start playin’ their music on my next set, ages before it gets released n’ shit – getting’ peeps 2 know new acts n’ keepin’ the whole DJing process as fresh as fuck! N’ there’s soooo much amazing music beein’ done these days that I have 2 restrain myself from the computer cuz, if not, I’ll spend my whole days n’ nites searchin’ n’ listenin’ 2 new music, hahah – what a nerd-o! But, in therms of countries I be followin’ I think I’d say the good ‘ol UK - but let’s not forget that so many dudes over there makin’ the IT music we love so much right now are Italian, hee, like Mowgli n’ Solo. But also, there’s incredible music comin’ from the US nowadays – take Harvard Bass, Noise Floor Crew, Lady Foursquare, Local Hero, Angel Alanis, the whole Dirtybird crew n’ youngsters like Mom & Dad as an example. But Finland is huge n’ risin’ 2 – Renaissance Man won’t let me lie! But, let’s not forget the Dutch House scene 2 – I think , at least 45% of the producer/DJs I play, like Afrojack, Gregor Salto, JoeySuki and Bassjackers comes from there, hehe! Actually, answerin’ this question really shows that I’m playin stuff from all over the world, actually! Hahaha!

Mu-Gen: Paz from the blog is obviously obsessed with new dance crazes and he wants to know, is there a native dance for your new sound?

Edu K: hahahah! Not yet, as far as I’m concerned but, it’d defs be some hypno-afro-tribal shit, haha!But, hey, speakin' of Paz, where the hell is my Uncle Chop Chop tee, ya bastardz, HUAHUAHUAHAUHAUHAU! (edit--T-shirt was my bad.... I'll go back and check if it's still there)

Mu-Gen: Im obviously a big fan and look to people like you for inspiration on new ideas... Who are you looking at?

Edu K: Whoa, it’s such an honor 2 hear that from u – the 1^st time I saw u guys tearin’ shit up on Slap N’ Dash’s set that nite in Melbs, it totally fuckin’ blew my mind! It made me think n’ rethink everything in a new way. It’s really inspirin’ 2 see the different ways peeps approach production, cuttin’, editin’ n’ all of that! N’, with me it’s like a rush : my body starts burnin’ n’ my head starts runnin’,hehe! I get dizzy with nu ideas, haha – n’ that was the case that nite n’ also with Scatter’s Rhys’ remix – which prompted me 4 weeks!!! But, in that same Oz tour, my last one, I had the epiphany which changed the direction of my sound 4 good when I saw Teki Latex Djing in Sidney!!!! The guys is THE fuckin’ prophet! Of course ZDS n’ Radioclit are the recent prime movers but Teki really took it a million notches up with the whole Sound Pellegrino sound n’ shit. To be honest I wasn’t very happy with my own music n’ with the whole fidget thing durin’ that tour n’, Andy Campion, my good ol’ friend n’ manager, kept pestering me about tracky house, hehe, n’ showin’ me sum stuff I didn’t know before like Smith N’ Hack n’ some other mins shit, hehe! N’ when I saw Teki DJin’ at one of Andy’s parties it all came together – with a BANG, hahaha! So, I came back 2 Brasil with my head so full of ideas that I ditched my whole old set n’ built a new one with that nu sound in a couple of days n’ from there on all my nu trax n’ remixes followed that direction 2. The good thing is that, with digi releases these days everything is soooo fast that I already have something out representin’ this nu phase with the Tee ‘Ski & Shab Ruffcut Ooww Barr Boo remix – n’ there’s plenty more comin’ out in the next couple of months!

Mu-Gen: What are you working on at the moment? And whats coming out?

Edu K: Maaann, shit loads of stuff! Ok so its been a long time coming but Scatters and I are finally doing our first Sydney show as Slap & Dash tomoz night at Chinese Laundry. Its hosted by Jam Music and the Hump Day Project guys who im sure your all familiar with now seeing we post their joints all the time.
We have been working on a whole new sound for the upcoming Scatterblog shows and this will be the first unveiling of our new style. So depending on how drunk we get it could go crazy or balls up.

After the huge success of their first party, which featured Proxy and Thomas Von Party, our good friends Stobe are back for their second show with another huge line up... Enter Jesse Rose, Oliver $ and Zombie Disco Squad .
Jesse Rose we all know about by now - he's been around as a big name in house music for quite a few years now, and has just released his debut full length, "What Do You Do If You Don't?" (which this is the tour for). He was a big name in the beginning of the Fidget House movement, but he definitely walks with his own stride. You'll be able to grab a free copy of his album with every ticket, if you're not from melbs tho, be sure to grab it at beatport.
Oliver $ just seems to be getting better at an exponential rate (i love using that word). Since 2007, his name has been all over, and his recent track, "What Ya Gonna Do" was a killer. He engineers for other artists (helps Jesse Rose too), so his production is tight, and his tracks show the traits.
Zombie Disco Squad have been mentioned on the blog a few times over, as we've been fans of their Gutter Broadcast blog for ages. Their DJ show has always been much talked about, but it is there production that has really taken off as of late. They've had originals released on Made To Play, Dirtybird and Sound Pellengrino, along with a bunch of remixes on other labels. Look out for some tasty Baile Funk and Hip House influences.

ZDS have been good enuf to give us a couple of sick tek-sclusive-bootlegs to post up. Be sure to keep an eye out for these guys...

Scatterblog Presents... NASA and DJ SEGA!!!!

I just had to put up the flyers for these. we're helping the espy put on two MASSIVE shows.
DJ Sega (May 30th) is such a forward thinking force in club music, we're all so into his stuff, it's really exciting to have him play with us! All Scatterblog crew will be there and he'll have some of his new cd with him too i hear!

The other bit of total hugeness is the Nasa and Dave Nada show (June 5th)!!! Nasa don't really need much of an introduction as you've probably been seeing their tracks featuring everyone from Santigold to Tom Waits to The Wu-Tang Clan.
This one is going to be full venue, with lots of crazy acts and everything. Nada has already made his name a staple diet in Oz from previous shows, and going by some of the live videos i've seen of Nasa it's gonna be a wild show (yes they'll have dancers with them). Again all Scatterblog crew in support!

On top of all that hype, i've been speaking to Zegon (1/2 of Nasa) and they're into what we're doing with our music and what not and have given us bits to remix their tracks!! So expect some shit hot Scatterblog remixes of Nasa before the drop!!!

Let me introduce you to Rod Kashani, a 21 year old producer from California who goes by the name of STICKY K. This guy has been killing it for me lately and with his debut EP signed to Dubsided records he's got a bright future ahead of him. His Bandari Funk EP is a straight up party banger, bass heavy egg on your face shit that i just cant get enough of at the moment. Sticky K has plenty of remixes out there on many other blogs but its his original tracks that really show off his production skills and make you sit up and pay attention, especially his track called "The Wierdo" that is now available to stream on his myspace page. Look out for Sticky K doing a guest Mix on Kissy Sell Out's BBC Radio 1 show in the future with promises of new original tracks and remixes of artists Larry Tee, Maluca and Diplo. To be honest, I struggle to get exited about full length albums because so often there will be 3 or 4 great tracks and then a whole bunch of filler where the artist tries to demonstrate how overly eclectic there production skills are. Having got that off my chest though, when I do get exited about an upcoming album its like a kid counting the sleeps before christmas. Now not to say that the Major Lazer project needs another person hyping it up but we're talking about auto-tuned babies, Nora Dean samples, air horns, surf guitar and of course and truckload of lasers. If non of that sounds remotely fun then your probably beyond the help of modern medicine.

Getting to the point of this post though, last night in the club I caught Mu-Gen mashing together Hold the Line by Major Laser and Wha-La-La-Leng by Poirier which just struck me as one of those happy, nerdy coincidences given that an official version of the mash had turned up in my mail the day before. The remix is blazing, with Ghislain laying down his current soca sound. Here at the blog his name has a really solid reputation. It's rare to have an artist as prolific yet at the same time so consistent. Not only that but with each release his style develops and his production get tighter (anyone in doubt should check his Three 6 Mafia remix). More and more I'm hearing "have you got the new Douster thing" as a conversation starter cause there always seems to be some new heat floating about the nets.

This track has been out a little while now and just keeps finding it's way into my sets as a mid-tempo transitional record. Like maybe moving the crowd from dancehall to baile without totally jumping ship. Out through Man Recordings on a ep which also features production by: wait for it .........The Frikstailers, El Remolon and Chancha Via Circuito.

Well its been roughly four and a bit years since i did my last proper dj mix. The mix was my entry for the Red Bull Academy and so much friggin work I thought I would never do another again. It took all my homies from here submitting mixes for the detboi gig promo we did a last week to finally get me off my ass and record something.

This time round I thought I would take the opposite approach and do a live "one take" kinda thing. Its not a simple mix by any means but its all me, all live. For your scratch nerds out there please take into consideration I had a broken arm at the time (excuses) but not joking.

Any way this mix is a pretty good representation of what I have been jamming in the clubs down here for the last six months or so. There's some old mixes and some new ones, some exclusives, some oldies, but pretty much party town from start to finish.

I had a mad ass time doing it so stay tuned for some more in the future. I'm working on a "world minimal" as Scatters likes to call it, or UK Funky/Hyper-Bass mix as we speak. Should be recorded pretty soon.

World Minimal Hype

Beats of this variety have been sending us all a little crazy lately... I've always said i'm a hater of minimal, but this new wave might be turning me for the better. There's been the odd exception to the rule with liking some of this stuff throughout the years, and it seems like that hint of radness is finally starting to make a bit more sense...
What's starting to push this sound forward is a kinda hype take on things - as you mighta realised we're all about hype music flowing thru tracks here. We try to put it in the tunes we make, we love to put it in our sets, and we definitely center a lot of posts around it. It's all about feeling rather than genre really. Shit that makes you throw your hands up, jump around like an idiot and shout out chants - hype is all about tracks being upbeat and bouncy. And hype seems to be finding it's way into minimal beats. which is great, cause i generally find minimal to be a bit too dark, isolating and druggie.
Obviously we've been flooded with way too many bangers over the past couple of years. Just a note, there's nothing wrong with bangers! I still love em, but with such saturation, you can see how people want to turn to something completely different and opposite in nature. People haven't turned away from party tho, and on top of that world beats, and especially African (especially), south American and Latin drums are infiltrating in a big way. So here we are left with our mold.
This can often turn out into rounded, hype arpegiated synths, lots of congas and shakers, a touch of bmore-ish chants (which we still def need to see some more of, always, tee hee) and some smooth, sparse bass. But for the bass-heads, don't be discouraged, as it seems like some of the UK Funky scene is putting back some droney and grimey bass into the tunes.
Here are a couple tunes i'm really into at the moment which i think help explain what i'm talking about a little bit... I wish i could put the Sharkslayer remix of "Manges" in as it's got these styles with even more hype in it, but the track is still unfinished and unreleased, so soon my pretties...

First check out a remix that one of our favourites Mowgli sent in recently. He does the whole minimal thing (which he often terms midget house) real well. He always has tasty synths and is getting more and more drum orientated as of late. This track has a synth sound that i'm getting into in a big way that definitely has a hands up trip out element to it. It's also apparently getting a radio 1 hammering by Pete Tong so look out. Check out Mowgli's Twitter which he's started up. Also his label DeadFish now has a podcast, just search iTunes for Deadfish Podcast and it's on like kong.

Tommy Sparks - She's Got Me Dancing (Mowgli Dub Remix)

This N.B. Funky track is a step towards the UK Funky side of minimal. You can definitely see the African roots come thru in the drum production, and the bass is pure dirt. I'm up for more of these kinda basslines AA247. Although the bass, and many of the extra noises are kinda dark and droney, the drums manage to really push your shoulders forward and head back.

N.B. Funky - Riddim Box

This Rubi Dan & Chinski track really is much more of a move towards a worldly bouncey thing, and is pretty far from anything tech. I do find myself dropping this tune regularly, and you'd be surprised with the switch it can add to more techy stuff. It's got them drums at heart, and then a bit more of a soca-ish feeling to it, so can work nicely.

Rubi Dan & Chinski - Big Boi Spitta

We'd be kinda lost in this post without something Douster related. The dude is doing some great things in a more Triassic related way, ranging from bouncey hip hop to stripped back shakers - all with a great worldly sound. This track is a remix by Mommas Boy (Mikix The Cat's alias) and it's a real trip. The synth has me kinda tranced and jumpy. Works great over plenty of stuff.
...Got this track via the curbcrawlers btw, who have been pushing all this sound for a bit already. They're doing an big overhaul to their site and bringing in some dope new names to write for it. They've already announced L-Vis and Renaissance Man, and the others upcoming are big big too.
Look out for this release coming out on Sound Pellegrino, Apr 20th.

Douster - For Weirdos Only (Mommas Boy Remix)

There's a definite need for a relation on this stuff that goes back in time a bit, referencing the minimal of time past... Deadset's "Tick Tock" has much more drive to it, and starts to get into the territory of that druggy lost in the corner sound i was getting at earlier, but there's something much more fun about it. I dunno if it's all them damn clocks, or that wired synth that keeps popping in, but something definitely has me, and it's got me smiling..

I think the key to keeping these tunes sounding hype is to just keep mixing through them. They're mostly really housey song structures, and there's nothing worse than hearing the entire intro and outro in a club. The fact that the tunes have so much space opens them up to be layered and cut up real nicely.
There's plenty more tunes i could mention obviously, feel free to call out some big ones in the comments. I think that Riva Starr needs a mention in all this also, some of those earlier releases like Scratch n Itch i love to use in between all this stuff...
