This assignment was right up my alley, the subject matter was perfect for my style. Below you can see the progression from thumbnails to color comps to final. I ended up with quite a few pages of hand lettering before I was happy with the way the words worked together.

Although the client and I both liked the first sketch (nurse smoking pipe), PCS realized that the title of the play was a strong selling point, so we ended up with a type treatment instead of an illustration. Initially, I wanted to go to Oregon State Hospital (the film was shot on location there) and draw the title on the wall and then photograph it, but it turns out that the wing where the film was shot had been torn down.

I created an animation to promote da Vinci Days festival, an arts, music, science & technology festival in Corvallis, Oregon. The characters were taken from a poster I had also done to help promote the festival. Music by Finn Riggins.

da Vinci Days

Poster for da Vinci Days festival; 3 days of art, science and technology in Corvallis, Oregon. The theme for this year is Cosmos, so I created my own little universe inspired by da Vinci’s inventions and art and also mid 20th century sci-fi movie posters.

Art was also used on the website (designed by ProWorks) as background graphic and will be screen printed on t-shirts that will be sold at the event.

Other upcoming projects related to poster art include a window display in downtown Corvallis and hopefully some kind of animation to promote the festival, the characters on the poster are just begging to be animated! I will post those here as soon as they are ready. Giclee prints are also available at society6.

Adidas trade show display

Here’s an illustration I did for an Adidas trade show display in Las Vegas, lots of creative freedom on this one; the only parameters were size (20′ x 8′), had to use PMS300 and include the words “Celebrate Originality”, the rest was up to me.

Billabong “Still Filthy”

T-shirt design for Billabong’s spring 2010 line. Art director Aaron Hennings was looking for something with a Latin theme, I came up with a design based on the Mexican flag seal. They ended up using the sketch as final, which is something that’s happened in the past, clients sometimes prefer the spontaneity and looseness of my roughs.
