Sarah Kathleen Peck is a writer, designer, storyteller and mover. She is the founder of the award-winning Landscape Urbanism website and journal, a website that explores the future of cities from a design perspective. She also leads the communications team for SWA Group, an international landscape architecture and urban design firm, where she designed her own position within the firm and launched the firm’s digital and print media outlet, “Ideas.” Prior to entering the design world, Sarah’s research and writing in psychology focused on the relationships between design, environment and behavior; today she runs several event-based projects that focus on curating conversations between high-impact individuals. Based in San Francisco, Sarah finds herself constantly moving: she is a 20-time NCAA All-American swimmer who has successfully swam from Alcatraz 9 times, most recently raising $29,000 for Charity: Water and swimming from Alcatraz in her “birthday suit” as part of the campaign.

Yael Wissner-Levy is a speechwriter and communications consultant for senior Israeli government and business leaders. Born in New York and raised both in the States and Israel, she recently launched her own firm after realizing the lack of skilled speechwriters in English in the Israeli market combined with her love of words. Previously, she served as the UK correspondent for Israel’s Channel 10 News, and prior to that reported for Channel 10′s Foreign News desk and presented daily segments on the channel’s morning show. Yael was a staff editor for leading Israeli newspaper website Ha’aretz and worked for a US Congressman as an advisor and speechwriter. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from Tel Aviv University and a Master of Science (M.Sc) in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Yael is a self-declared foodie, avid traveler, and passionate entrepreneur.

Kyra Maya Phillips is a writer, innovation strategist and digital economy obsessed start up person. Her work is centred around understanding where innovation comes from and how we can create the environments which spur it.

“Asking the right questions,” rather than constantly searching for answers, is a catch-all for projects and concepts that she spends her time working on.
Most recently, Kyra embarked on a research and writing project that seeks to determine what the black markets can teach us about innovation. She’s currently co-authoring a book on the subject with her partner in crime and fellow Sandboxer, Alexa Clay. It’s called The Misfit Economy and it will be published by Simon & Schuster.

She does other bits and bobs. She’s a “point person” at The Point People, a network of people committed to and active in building, connecting and catalysing the social and cultural innovation system. Prior to all of this, Kyra spent time at SustainAbility, The Guardian and Business in the Community working as an in resident journalist, innovation strategist and sustainability consultant.

Day to day, Kyra likes to explore how “misfits” like pirates, hackers and gangsters innovate. The most interesting fact she’s stumbled upon so far has been how 18th century pirates developed constitutional democracies on their ships before the United States, England and France.

Tahnee (left) and Sandboxer Kyra Phillips 

Today is officially Tahnee’s last day at Sandbox. She joined us seven months ago during a time of big changes that were exciting, but also sometimes created a lot of uncertainty. And she quickly became an integral part not just of the Sandbox team, but also of the community.

Tahnee officially worked as a Community Manager – but she did much more than that. At times, when I was jumping from meeting to meeting, she effectively ran Sandbox: From managing our application process to responding to member requests to running all our communication efforts. She also was responsible for all communication related to our Playbook, and coordinated the launch of our Dublin hub, as well as the upcoming launches in Tel Aviv, Dubai and Boston. And she was an essential part of all our strategy discussions. The New Sandbox we announced a while ago is deeply influenced by her. Over the last weeks, as we prepared to move Sandbox’ operations to New York, Tahnee worked incredibly hard to document all her knowledge for future Community Managers, resulting in the most comprehensive documentation that Sandbox has ever seen.

And while doing all that, Tahnee became a great friend not just to me, but to many other Sandboxers as well. We are incredibly grateful for everything she did for Sandbox, and very sorry to see her go. We wish her all the best for her upcoming research project in the faaaaar north of Finland (where it’s dark and cold all the time). And, as so often in Sandbox, a goodbye isn’t really a goodbye; Tahnee will hopefully stay an active member of our community for a long time.

Ertan Dogrultan

Ertan Dogrultan, Founder and CTO of Startup Genome, uses his Machine Learning, as well as Data Mining experience and knowledge to tackle decision-making phenomena in the business world. His goal is to make entrepreneurs and change makers smarter by giving them valuable insights in a scalable way. We’re excited to have you on board, Ertan!

Will Patrick

Will Patrick is a member of the Google[x] Rapid Evaluation team, a team charged with coming up with Google’s Next Big Thing. He prototypes, hacks spreadsheets, plays with robots, files invention disclosures and occasionally organizes presentations that include skydiving, parkour and bmx stunts. His stated mission at Google[x] is to “make trouble” and he tries to keep experiments from blowing up. We’re excited to have you on board, Will!

Sheel Tyle

Sheel Tyle works at New Enterprise Associates, a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, has a social investment fund, and is passionate about vision care. Welcome to the Sandbox family, Sheel!
