Ira Glass on Taste vs. Ability

This is so good to hear. I dislike almost everything I design and have folders full of work that’ll never see the light of day, but that’s OK. One day my ability will catch up with my taste, I just have to keep at it. The fact that Glass is brave enough to play his old tapes like that proves how genuine the advise is.

Awesome. But why not an on-screen software keyboard? Or even better, a keyboard projected under the fingers on the touchpad? The localisation and app-specific benefits would be massive and, I think any iPhone owner would agree, it doesn’t take long to get used to.

I can’t wait to start playing with these techniques at uni.

RGBa and Text-Shadow in Safari and Firefox

Tim Brown points out a frustrating inconsistency in the implementations of the RGBa and the text-shadow properties in Safari and Firefox. Despite using both a lot recently, I hadn’t noticed it until now.

Ars Technica covers the battle that’s raging over how video will be served in HTML 5: the Apple- and Google-backed H.264 vs. the Mozilla- and Opera-supported Ogg Theora. Looks like we’re stuck offering both for now.
