Seattle Food Stylist Rachel Grunig Cooks it Up for Amazon

Rachel Grunig Seattle Photo Stylist is both prop stylist and food stylist and most recently wrapped a big food shoot for Amazon.com. Married to a baker, Rachel is comfortable whipping up recipes in the kitchen and creating beautiful food. For this particular shoot Rachel Food Stylist Seattlecooked both on set (using a camp stove) and in her home kitchen (for prep). "I was super please with the results," says Grunig. "I love cooking so much it's almost like I am not working." For this shoot Rachel made bread, pasta, chocolate cookies, asian noodles and cous cous. "I really like the variety." Says Rachel. Interior Photographer Alex Hayden Shoots Residential Story for Gray Magazine

Gray Magazine, one of my favorite resources for all things design in the Northwest recently went live with their April/May issue. Gray is a fantastic digital and print magazine featuring designers, artists and connoisseurs based in the Pacific Northwest. It's a great resource for those of us in the region, and a testament to the diverse and thriving culture of design in our area.

This particular issue features a story photographed by interior photographer Alex Hayden. You can see the new live issue here, where you'll find lots of beautiful work by Alex. On pg. 30 he shot a beautiful table setting designed by interior designer Rick Bay, and Alex's photos showcase the playful intricacies of the setting. Another of my favorites is an article called "Design, Build, Move." In this spread, Alex captures the simplicity, warmth and openness of the spaces designed by H2 Design + Build.

Bryan Alano Hits the Streets with Jason Richardson

Los Angeles lifestyle photographer, Bryan Alano recently did a shoot with sneaker connoisseur and Olympic hurdler, Jason Richardson. Jason, sponsored by Nike has a vast collection of running shoes, says Bryan. Two of those Nikes are featured in the shoot, but in most of the shots he is in street clothes, sporting dress shoes and boots. Bryan says Jason loves fashion, a rather surprising fact for an Olympic athlete, but this shoot is much more about the man than the hurdler. Sure, there are plenty of shot of him jumping, running and hurdling, the focus on Jason out of his running clothes showcases his personality - his spunk, his smile and his playfulness.

One of Bryan's strong suits is bringing out the fun, vibrant aspects of his subjects. That's what makes these photos so refreshing. Bryan offers a different perspective than we're used to seeing in photos of Olympic athletes. Rachel Grunig, photo stylist extraordinaire recently wrapped a shoot for Murphy's Oil. It was a big shoot shot in a residential home. "The home was gorgeous," says Rachel, "which made my job easier, really." Rachel's assignment was to create room settings that highlighted the hardwood floors and wood accents in the home. Shot on location in Seattle Grunig propped the house out in beautiful mid century modern furniture and used some of the homeowners own pieces to bring the rooms to life. "I was super happy with the end result," says Grunig. "It was a long but satisfying project."

Sports and Lifestyle photographer, Ian Coble just returned from an 8 day shoot for Freeskier Magazine. The trip was part of a feature article for next winter's magazine.

"I was stoked to get a call a few weeks back from the magazine's photo editor, telling me that I was slated to not only shoot the article, but also write it. I've done some writing in the past for magazines, but usually it's little pieces that are minor sections of the mag. This was the first time I've had the chance to shoot and write an entire piece though," says Ian.

David Clugston Shoots Retro Project for Deloitte University Press

Conceptual Photographer David Clugston recently wrapped an editorial project for longtime client Deloitte University Press. The final product has an elegant simplicity that is full of character. The images pull you right into the scene and help to illustrate the themes of the accompanying articles.

The first article, entitled Telling a Story with Data examines the schism between analysts and decision makers and claims that it must be bridged by storytelling. David's photo of a passionate performer captures that special something that enables inspired communication.The second article is called Reframing the Talent Agenda and examines the new paradoxes facing workers and employers. David creates a contradiction of his own, telling the story of the evolution of the young laborer through time with a single picture.

“I liked this project,” said David. “The client wanted a moody, retro feel which is fun to do. It was a departure from the more modern, simple shots I am usually commissioned to do. Last month The New York Times showed the world that journalism isn't what it used to be with its multi-media feature story: Snow Fall – The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek. – A groundbreaking interactive report on the shocking avalanche that took place last winter at Stevens Pass Resort in the Pacific Northwest. The tragedy claimed the lives of 3 highly experienced skiers

The epic story appeared both in the physical paper and online. The online version with its embedded videos, images,charts,graphs and weather simulation made the story come to life in a way that a two dimensional newspaper could never deliver. The account was a realistic reminder of the power and wonder of nature and our obsession with experiencing it. David Clugston Shoots Butter Bust for Darigold and Wexley

Seattle Still Life Photographer David Clugston recently wrapped an outdoor campaign with Wexley School for Girls and Darigold. The campaign was spawned from a contest where the winner was rewarded with her own Butter Bust (see billboard). Clugston had to shoot the bust in a cold freezer at the Darigold corporate headquarters while the butter bust sculptor refined her work . The outdoor campaign is running through Seattle and Portland.

Action sports and lifestyle shooter Ian Coble just completed a new Revo Sunglasses campaign with agency Factory Design Labs. The images were shot in Telluride, CO and Arches National Park, UT and feature model Jimmy Chin, a professional Alpinist and Photographer.Chin is a sponsored athlete known for his first ascents in remote mountain ranges around the world. Additionally, he is photographer that shoots for National Geographic and the North Face." It's sort of a rarity when your model is also an accomplished photographer himself," says Coble. "The concept was to capture Jimmy in his two environments… skiing and rock climbing. The direction was to create lifestyle images versus action images that depicted both environments.Each activity required 6 different sunglasses. Each sunglass style required both a close up of the product and a lifestyle shot of the product with Jimmy. The Background panoramas help tell the story of adventure. The campaign will run worldwide online, in stores and in advertisements.
