<p>During my first week as an intern at Sales by 5, the largest task assigned to me was secret shopping for a client. What is secret shopping? It’s when someone is hired to pose as a customer in order to evaluate the quality of the goods or services provided. </p>
<p>When some hear about this way of gathering information they see it as “tricking” their employees. However, it is a tool to measure the quality of service that is truly being provided to its customers. From past and recent experiences secret shopping, I can tell you that the level of honesty on the services provided from a company increases when they do not know you are representing a firm, and believe you are an everyday customer. </p>
<p>Secret shopping is also a useful marketing tool when trying to gather information about a company’s competitors and the consistency of customer service that’s being provided by a company. Now with Sales by 5, I saw it used to measure the effectiveness of sales training. This strategy helped the employees understand where they were, and where they needed to be. So is secret shopping useful? We can say it is increasing positive experiences with company’s customer base. </p>

I am a Gazelles Coach in Mexico City. When I was 22, my parents owned a gas station from when I was a kid, and always gave cash on credit. From the 15th to the 5th, we had a cash flow problem.  My parents went on a trip to England for 3 months. They day they left, I closed off a bunch of credit accounts. Our volume went down 40%, but it was easy to make up.  I reached out to big buyers with incentives and got a lot of response. I have used that model many many times in other businesses, and increased my cash flow, solving the cash flow problem.</p>

<p>How do you make your employees, coworkers, spouse, kids, neighbor or pets feel?</p>
<p>In the last month, I have been shopping (often we secret shop at Salesby5 to find out who is selling and un-selling) for assisted living facilities for a family member. I found 2 out of 6 in my area that were excellent. 3 were unacceptable regarding customer service and “FEEL”! and 1 was almost acceptable.</p>
<p>Am I picky? YES! Am I a consumer? YES! For example, on my trips, I experienced:</p>
<p>1. No one acknowledging my presence after entering a facility and waiting for 10+ minutes, while staff walked by repeatedly.</p>
<p>2. Posters are cheesy flyers from a computer on pastel paper.</p>
<p>3. Plants are dusty and fake versus real and attractive plants from perhaps <a href="http://www.plantinterscapes.com/">Plant Interscapes</a> (Client).</p>
<p>4. Desks look like a bargain store buy from 1980 something.</p>
<p>What would all this say on how this company is going to take care of your loved one?</p>
<p>A good friend of mine owns<a href="http://www.mbboerne.com/"> Mercedes Benz of Boerne</a> and when he built that facility, special attention was paid to the restrooms. His close to exact quote was, &#8220;Your restrooms and how they are kept show how you feel about your guests.&#8221; His had music, granite, and  kept them impeccable compared to many restaurants, malls, and office buildings that are poor examples.</p>
<p>Today, I ask you to dissect how you are making people feel. How are they making you feel? If they bring you down and are friends perhaps it’s time to let them know. Recently, I made a call to a vendor to tell them that  5 un returned calls in 2 months is no longer acceptable and I will be shopping for a new vendor.</p>

In definitive global research, <a title="The Conference Board" href="http://www.conference-board.org/" target="_self">The Conference Board</a> has found the development and consistent use of a tagline to be a key factor in brand strategy success. A tagline that succinctly and powerfully communicates the brand’s promise is one of the quickest, easiest and least expensive ways to communicate the brand’s new position to internal and external audiences. It should consistently accompany the brand’s logo in situations outlined by the<a title="brand architecture" href="http://www.brandingstrategyinsider.com/2009/09/brand-architecture-defined.html" target="_self">brand architecture</a>.</p>
<p>I believe that developing brand taglines (and elevator speeches) are the most important next steps one can take once a brand has been <a title="positioned" href="http://www.brandingstrategyinsider.com/2009/02/brand-positioning-basics.html" target="_self">positioned</a> or<a title="repositioned" href="http://www.brandingstrategyinsider.com/2011/09/how-to-reposition-your-brand-for-higher-meaning.html" target="_self">repositioned</a>.</p>
<p>A tagline should achieve all of the following for your brand:</p>
<ol>
<li>Communicate the brand’s <a title="unique value proposition" href="http://www.brandingstrategyinsider.com/2010/11/clarity-on-the-language-of-branding.html" target="_self">unique value proposition</a> (<a title="brand promise" href="http://www.brandingstrategyinsider.com/2011/09/do-you-deliver-on-your-brand-promise.html" target="_self">brand promise</a>)</li>
<li>Be succinct</li>
<li>Be memorable</li>
<li>Cause a person to want to know more about or interact further with the brand</li>
</ol>
<p>Achieving all of the above is more easily said than done. Over time, I have found that the less sophisticated the client, the more they are primarily interested in a tagline that sounds good, even if it doesn’t really say the right thing or anything at all about the brand. Many relatively unsophisticated clients would choose a tagline option that sounds great but that is completely off brand strategy over one that just sounds good but perfectly communicates the brand’s unique value proposition.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On March 1, 2012, we celebrated our 10 year anniversary.  It&#8217;s been an amazing ride along the way marked with bright, energetic people joining the team and running this crazy race with us. We&#8217;re so thankful for each of you who contributed to our success and encouraged us throughout this decade of growth, learning and innovation. We were thrilled to see friends, family and alumni join us from near and far including Ryan Kohnen, SalesBy5&#8242;s first employee, Kristen Wake who traveled from Virginia, Heidi Gerhardt who came in from Dallas, Erik&#8217;s brother David who came in from Dallas &amp; Kenneth Solis who popped in from New York City.</p>
