The City comes to St. Matt's!

Wouldn’t it be great if we could leverage the internet to provide more than one-way communication from the office to the parish? What if we could provide a safe, easy-to-use, online space where groups within the parish could communicate with each other? Small groups could communicate prayer requests and praise reports with each other throughout the week. Members of a ministry team could contact fellow team members to easily find a substitute. The host of a parish cookout could post what’s needed, and we could sign up so that everyone knows who’s bringing what. Well, look no further, dear parishioners, for The City provides this and more!

The City is an online space created by the church for the church, and we hope that in the coming weeks and months, The City will enable us to wield the internet for the the Kingdom. “Why not use Facebook,” you ask? Well, we do use Facebook to communicate upcoming events, but at it’s core, Facebook is about individuals, not community. Facebook has it’s place, but The City offers several things that Facebook does not:

The City provides a private space where our community can connect and share life knowing that their privacy is protected.

The City will allow our church to create group structures that mirror the way that we, as a church, organize ministries and programs

The City will give our leadership team tools for communication, leader development, reporting and administration

We are looking for some “early adopters” who would be willing to give The City a try. If you’re interested, please email Jennifer in the church office, and she’ll send you an invitation to join The City via email. If you’d like to learn more, check out The City FAQ.

The Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County would like to invite you to be a part of Super Follies: the Talent Show, Dinner and Live/Silent Auction benefiting the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, 213 West Home Avenue in Hartsville. This annual event is sponsored by the Clinic to honor our volunteers and raise support for the ministry. Guests are invited to peruse and bid for Silent Auction items beginning at 6:00pm and a buffet dinner will be served at 6:30pm. The Talent Show and Live Auction will take place during and after dinner.

Last year’s proceeds totaled $16,720 thanks to our 16 table sponsors, auction item donors, and individual ticket sales. Our goal is to exceed last year’s total and raise the funds for the operation of both clinics for the medical care of those eligible and in need. To date, 3,491 people have been treated by our volunteer medical providers alleviating the burden in emergency rooms and supporting our community’s families by keeping them healthier and productive. In 2010, 11,854 medications were provided to our patients through the Free Medical Clinic pharmacy.

Please consider sponsoring an eight-place table for $300.00. For that amount, you’ll be able to provide eight meals for our volunteers and/or selected members of your organization as well as have your organization’s name and logo prominently displayed as a sponsor of this worthy cause. To sponsor a table, please fill out the sponsorship form. If you prefer, you can buy one or more individual tickets for $30 each. You may purchase as many as you like but your name or logo would not be in the program. If you opt to buy individual tickets, please complete the individual form and mail your payment to 203 Grove Street, Darlington, SC, with check payable to “Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County.”
