Dinner at a friend’s house in the country on her deck surrounded by trees, bird feeders, and birdhouses while listening to lots of bird songs and barred owls hooting to each other. Doesn’t get much better than that, I think.

Between my last three art fairs, last three wholesale orders, and making new works for the upcoming Topeka exhibit, I now feel grossly underprepared for my next couple art fairs coming up in less than two weeks. So… pedal to the metal… Lots of ideas (thanks to my sketchbook — the brain is not a constant churner of ideas so it’s good to record’em when I got’em), lots of paper, lots of x-acto blades, lots of cutting.

I took a leisurely stroll downtown to buy frozen yogurt and ended up buying this as well.. Surely many future photos and stories to share on the ol’ blog-a-log.. but first, I have to figure out how to use it. And before I figure out how to use it, I have to get a ton more work ready for my next couple art fairs. Been plugging away all day getting new stock ready to send out to Bella Luz Gifts in Wichita, KS, Consider Boutique in Louisville, KY, and a new vendor, Collector Art Shop, in Berkeley, CA.

“A Cut Above” Exhibit Flyer & Details

I’m very excited and honored to be a part of this exhibit at the Sabatini Art Gallery in the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library with Beatrice Coron, Cindy Ferguson, Nikki McClure and Clay Rice, four artists whose work I know well and have followed over the years. I even saw an exhibit of Beatrice Coron’s at the Brooklyn Public Library in about 2004, just after I had started working with cut paper in animation, and never would have imagined my work hanging next to hers. And for this to be a local exhibit to me means all that much more. So, here’s some details. Find more information HERE.

Hooting Hatters - Cut Paper Art

8 x 10 inch paper cutting. A couple owls to tie off my works for the paper cutting exhibit coming up in Topeka. As soon as I finished this and framed it this morning, I was off to deliver all 10 of my works. Now, I shall sit back and breathe for a few, enjoy a gathering in the countryside for dinner with friends and family, and then back to the grind tomorrow to prep for my next two shows: Mulvane in Topeka and Smoky Hill Fest in Salina. Night Flight - Cut Paper Art

11 x 14 inch paper cutting. I decided to stick with my original title, instead of renaming it (as I mentioned in my previous post about this piece). As I was washing dishes while the glue was settling (washing dishes is always a good time to contemplate important matters), I remembered that kids — the intended audience for this — have sharp minds and imaginations and they’ll draw their own meaning out for themselves.
