I’m sure you’ve heard the saying – “Give a man a fish – feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish – feed him for a lifetime”.

Here’s my take on that – I don’t want a handout so don’t give me a fish. I don’t want to have to do more work than is needed so don’t teach me how to fish. I’d rather go buy the fish.

Not everyone wants to learn the same things. For example, some people want to learn how the computer actually works. The want to learn programming language and know what all of that code in there means. MOST people just want to use the computer, so they buy software that will do the job they need to do. If you have windows software or apple software on your computer, you have chosen to not learn how to fish and you’ve bought the fish instead.

Some people may want to learn to hunt rather than to fish.

Time is our most valuable asset. In the book The 4-Hour Work Week, Timothy Ferriss teaches us that we must outsource some tasks if we ever want to get to the point where we CAN shorten our work week.

That’s where I come in. If you have a blog or want to have a blog, but don’t want the hassle of setting it up and maintaining it, visit here to see how I can help you.

I’ve had many people on social networking sites like myspace and facebook tell me that they don’t want to ever be involved in network marketing (AKA MLM). The reason is because they see all of the other MLMers on these sites. The majority of them are consumed with their businesses. Very few of them have ANY other interests (or at least they don’t tell you about any other interests). When people see that the life of most network marketers is consumed with business, they want no part of it. They feel that they will have to give up all of their interests to build their business.

Many of these network marketers have blogs and their blogs are all about MLM. There aren’t many network marketers who can blog about anything else. They are too hungry. They are so desperate for people that they have forgotten all about creating relationships first. It’s highly important to create real relationships with people and let them ask about your business. The network marketers out there who have no other interests and no life are the ones who are making no money. They feel that they constantly have to push their business or their coaching/mentoring on others because they are in the mode where they are so eager to build their businesses they forget that in order to let people really get to know them, they need to talk about more than MLM.

I’m not saying don’t talk about your business. If you are passionate about it and can really help people, you SHOULD talk about your business. However, there needs to be more to you as a person than just your business. Let others know who you are.

What are your interests outside of MLM? Are you a desperate network marketer? Have you become so consumed with trying to get people into your business that you forgot all about who you are? Get a life. It will help you build your business.

YOU Deserve Success!!

Hypocrite – a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

You know the person. This guy or gal will do ANYTHING to win. Anything to get recognition – even if they are going against everything they teach.

Why is that? Why would someone go against their beliefs and teachings just for recognition? The answer is a simple three letter word.

EGO

Ego causes people to do some pretty horrible things at times. Once some people get a taste of the recognition and accolades they just can’t stop – no matter who they have to hurt or how low they have to sink.

I had a mentor whose ego got so large the past year or so that he has violated almost everything he has taught. It is sad, but I’m actually glad I was finally able to see this guy for who he truly is.

Bottom line – you can only put on a front for so long. Eventually your true colors will shine through.

Make sure you “practice what you preach” in life. It’s just better that way. And don’t put yourself on a pedestal. Then there is no chance of falling off it. You can get seriously hurt when you fall off. If you are going to get up there, know that you will have to live up to what you teach. Teach one thing and live another and you will be found out quicker than anything.

I am amazed at the number of people who claim they want to be successful in their own home business, but don’t pay attention to simple, every day details. For example, I wrote a post in 2007 – ALMOST TWO FULL YEARS AGO – about a call that was taking place that Saturday. At the end of the post, I told my readers to email me if they want the call in details. Yesterday – TWO YEARS LATER – someone commented on that post asking for the call in details!!! Two years later!!

Many times I send emails out about a special call that will be taking place. I try to send them a week or so in advance to give people time to plan on being on the call. Last Tuesday (October 13) I sent an email out about a call that was to take place on Tuesday, October 20. I received 4 emails on Wednesday October 14 to tell me that I did not show up for the call the night before. They had me checking to make sure I put the correct date on the email I sent out. FOUR professional network marketers who don’t keep a calendar and who do not pay attention to days/times in emails.

Now, don’t get me wrong – I’ve made mistakes before. However, if you go on a call and the host is not there, that is an indication that you may want to check the email with the call in details for accuracy. You don’t just reply to that email complaining that you waited for a half hour and the host did not show up.

In order to be successful, you MUST be able to pay attention to details. If someone is looking at your business and they want you to call them on Wednesday at 6 pm PST, you must know what time that is in YOUR time zone. You must be able to know that Wednesday is not Tuesday or Thursday. You must be able to read a calendar. You must also know what the date is today.

Some network marketers will scream from the top of their lungs that their “deal” is so simple, anyone can do it. NO…network marketing is NOT for everyone. Everyone can not do it. You must be able to follow simple instructions. Pay attention to simple details. If that is not you, then you can not, will not, be successful working your own home based business.

If you are able to follow simple instructions, pay attention to simple details, know what the date is today, know how to read a calendar, know what time zone you are in, know how to look at a website and see what time it is in other time zones, and simple things like this, then you can probably have success working from home.

Most nights my kids bring our 135 pound black lab (Brutus) into the garage for the night. Last night they were not home so I brought him in. Brutus is a big, strong, lovable dog. He doesn’t know his own strength sometimes. Last week, my husband brought him in and stopped at the outside spigot to fill his water dish. The water hit the metal dish and scared Brutus so bad that he bolted. My husband had hold of the leash and Brutus caught him off guard and pulled him right out of his slippers!!

Last night, I didn’t grab the leash, just took Bru by the collar and brought him in the garage. This is generally an uneventful process. As I was hitting the button to close the garage door, Bru caught sight of something in the corner of the garage. He was tugging to get away. As soon as the door closed, I let him go. He ran to the corner and came out shaking something that appeared to be a large bird. A small turkey maybe? I wasn’t sure what it was, but it was brown, full of feathers and I SCREAMED!!

He had this in his mouth.

Luckily I didn’t wake my husband with my screaming. After my initial shock, I realized that what Brutus had in his mouth was really just my old FEATHER DUSTER.

After my heart stopped pounding out of my chest, I took the duster away from him and laughed so hard anyone would have thought I was crazy. I called my daughter and son to tell them what happened and they both had a good laugh before turning in for the night.

My husband is a carpenter and a perfectionist. He doesn’t do anything half way.

A few years ago, we had two outdoor dogs – Brutus (10 year old black lab) and Zeus (13 year old shepherd lab mix). This was before we had to put our beloved Zeus to sleep. My husband wanted to build them a dog house. He built a doggy CONDO!! It was 8 ft. long and had a hinged roof so we could replace the straw inside easily. Did I mention the carpeted floor and walls? Insulated floor and walls?

Zeus is no longer with us and Brutus comes in the garage at night and when it’s raining so he doesn’t really need a dog house.

We do, however, have an outdoor cat. I hate animals in my house. Animals in the house mean hair – yuk. No matter how much you clean, there is still hair. And, I found out that if a cat learns how to spray before you get it fixed, getting it fixed will not stop it from spraying. Needless to say, the cat will never be allowed in my house.

My husband & I decided that he needs a house of his own. I was going to just buy one but my husband decided he would make one. He spent the afternoon today building a cat house. Look in the entrance hole in the picture, you will see a blue ring. That’s 1″ insulation board. The floor, walls and roof are insulated. There is a rug on the floor that goes up the sides. The tar paper is on there as a moisture barrier. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s planning on siding it and shingling the roof next weekend. All of this so the cat can keep warm at night when the temperature begins to dip.

Isn’t it amazing what we do for our animals!!

You’ve seen it and / or heard it. Work from home in your pajamas. Isn’t that the “dream job”?

I thought so. But it wasn’t true.

When you work from home and wear your pajamas, lounge wear, etc… it puts you in the mindset to relax, sleep and lounge around. Not in the mindset to work. It’s nice at first. Grab the laptop and lounge on the couch “working”. Then you get sucked into the trap of relaxing, watching TV, surfing the internet, playing games and everything that pajamas and lounge wear promote.

I’ve found that when I get up and get dressed as if I’m going to a J.O.B., I am more productive. I get more done. Not to mention, now many people have skype and want to do video chats. How can you do a video chat when you’re in lounge around mode? How can you be productive in lounge around mode? You can’t. No one will take you seriously. More important…you won’t take YOURSELF seriously.

A few people have said “Well…if I’m going to get dressed as if I’m going to a J.O.B., I might as well have a J.O.B.” My answer – “If that’s what you want, go for it. My daily commute is 2 seconds from the bathroom or bedroom to my office. I get to take a break when I want, and eat lunch whenever I’m hungry, not when a boss tells me I can. I also get to be here if my kids need me for something.”

If you work from home and are wearing your pajamas or lounge wear every day and are not experiencing the success you deserve, try this – get up in the morning, take a shower and get dressed as if you were going to a J.O.B. Do this for a week and see if your productivity rises.

YOU Deserve Success!!

I am so glad I’ve been blessed enough to work from home for most of my children’s lives. My son is 18 and my daughter is 17. The other day my daughter told me that I am one of her best friends. I have always been here for them. Don’t get me wrong – it hasn’t always been EASY, but I’m so glad that I’ve had this life.

I was talking to a friend today who told me that his son is now 16. His son said to him the other day “Why are you suddenly starting to act like a dad?” When questioned as to what he meant, his son went on to say “You’re always working and never home”. My friend THOUGHT that he was being a good father by working all the time so his son would be able to have and do the things he wanted. This is NOT the case!! His son resents him now because he was never there for him. Work – even though it was work to provide for his son – always got in the way of them actually having a relationship.

That made me think about my life. I can’t imagine, with all of the opportunities out there, why anyone would put going to a job above their children. I understand why people THINK they must do that, but in reality, it’s not true. Sure…maybe you have to work a year or two while you are building your future with a home based business, but after that, you can be home with your children and work around your home schedule.

Imagine that – plan your work around your life instead of planning your life around your work. It CAN be done. It HAS BEEN done. I’ve DONE it. Where are your priorities?
