Google recently launched Google Drive, their product for cloud storage. This was one of the most anticipated products and came to compete with Dropbox and Skydrive, this last one provided by Microsoft.

The file upload feature already exists for a long time on Google Docs. Basically, Google renamed the site and created some new APIs. With Google Drive release, they also make available synchronizing apps for PC, Mac and Android. iOS was left out.

But if you want to access your files from your iPhone, yes, there’s an app for that. It’s called Google Docs Manager and can view, download for offline access and open files with any other compatible App already installed on your iPhone. App’s interface is similar to the new layout adopted by Google in their products.

Google Docs Manager costs $0.99 in the App Store and it’s very useful while we wait Google launch its own iPhone version.

The old version of Twitter app for iPhone and iPad had the option to ignore local trending topics, but the new version seems to miss this option. Learn how to enable it without Jailbreak!

On the Twitter website you can choose to view trending topics of a town or the entire world. On iPhone and iPad application, older versions had an option that allowed to ignore the local trending topics, showing only the trending topics worldwide. If you just updated it, the option selected is not changed. However, if you reinstalled, you will be stuck in local trending topics.

To change this setting at any time follow the steps below (you don’t need to jailbreak it):

1 – Force Twitter app shutdown. To do this, double-click the Home button on the device, hold the icon of twitter for a few seconds and click the red “minus” icon.

2 – Download and install iExplorer application (formerly iPhone Explorer) on your computer

3 – Locate your iPhone from the list and navigate to the folder Applications/Twitter/Library/Preferences

4 – Copy the file com.atebits.Tweetie2.plist to your desktop (drag and drop it)

5 – Open the file with a plist file editor (for Mac try Xcode or Pref Setter. For Windows, try Plist Editor)

6 – Add the value “TwitterIgnoreLocalTrendsDefaultsKey” (without quotes) on file with the Boolean type. Set the value TRUE to ignore local trending topics and FALSE to keep them

7 – Copy the com.atebits.Tweetie2.plist file back to the source folder for iExplorer

After making a copy of the file back you have to wait several hours for the Twitter application update the list (it keeps the latest trending topics in cache for some time). Once the upgrade occurs, your device will display exactly the trending topics you have chosen.

Released in November 10th, iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak for some devices was finally released as a Christmas gift. Here’s how to do it.Apple has improved its operating system and hired some of the hackers who “broke down” the system, but still restricts the execution of some applications that change the way that iOS runs, a practice called Jailbreak.

As a Christmas gift, a group managed to find a way to break the new version and released it to the public. This method is compatible with both versions of the iPhone 3G, iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S and iPad 2, both with chip A5 still do not have a jailbreak in this version and the owners will have to wait a little more for a solution.

Here’s how to easily jailbreak your device in 5 steps:

Update your iTunes to the latest version and plug your device on USB port

Synchronize your device or make a backup, just in case a problem occurs in the process

Accept the update and wait it to complete

Download and install Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 Redsn0w for Windows or Mac (links here)

Follow the onscreen instructions. Cydia icon will be available on the screen, allowing the installation of multiple applications not available on the App Store, such as themes and other system utilities.

It’s important to mention that those who bought the iPhone locked by a carrier should not try this method. The recommendation for these cases is NEVER update the iPhone through iTunes and wait for a complete method for unlocking the operator (which is different from Jailbreak).

If you noticed that copying files in Windows has been a slow job it’s time for you to know TeraCopy.

Since Microsoft released Windows Vista late 2006, among other issues, the one that left it’s users furious was slow speed to file copy tasks. This was corrected in KB931770 (which was available on Vista SP1, early 2008), but even after the release of Windows 7, users complain that the speed of copying files is slower than it was in Windows XP. Some even blame the extra system animation.

If you have identified the problem, here’s a tip: install the application (free) called TeraCopy.

It analyzes the files to be copied and reduces the copy time even in different hard drives. In addition, you can stop a copy (pause) temporarily and then continue where you left off. The application integrates with the operating system, “replacing” the window to copy files regardless of the application you are and, of course, in Windows Explorer.

The software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and the developer’s website even has versions for 64 bit systems.

If you have an iPhone, iPad or any other iOS device you already have accessed the calendar app. But you master all it’s features? Discover new tips we prepared for you to use it with Google Calendar!

The calendar for iPhone, iPad and all iOS devices has always been there and we sure that you already used it. If you have a Google Calendar account, there are a few tips we prepared for you that we sure you would like to know how to do.

Sync your calendar with any device

You can sync the calendar between your computer, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and access it trough internet, receive reminder e-mails with meeting invites or access it using Outlook. To do all this, create a Google Calendar account and enable sync on your device preferences adding a GMail account. Then turn on the calendar sync.

When you add an event into any interface, web, computer or iOS, it’ll be available on all devices. You don’t even need to worry about backups: it’s all safe on Google servers!

Google’s Exchange Server

GMail and Google Calendar accounts can easily be added using iOS preferences. But if you’d like to use your calendar to accept events invitations or e-mail services like send as another mail account added to GMail you need set a new account like a Microsoft Exchange server. On server settings, type m.google.com as server and your complete mail including the @gmail.com as user name. If you need help on this, take a look on Google help here.

Enable all your calendar from Google Calendar on the iPhone or iPad

If some of your calendars refuse to show on iPhone or iPad you can correct this on a simple way. If you setup your account as GMail, access m.google.com/sync on your device and enable the calendar you want to sync. If you setup your account as Microsoft Exchange, access www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect and enable your calendars. After that open your calendar app and wait the sync process.

Change event color on your calendars

Sometimes, specially when sync Google Calendar using Microsoft Exchange, calendar colors is not like you see at the web. Natively, iOS don’t allow you to change the colors but you can easly edit them if you Jailbreak your device. Search for Calendar Colors in Cydia. You can define manually any calendar color available on device.

Do you own the first iPad model and want to enable video mirroring the same way that Apple did with iPad 2? Learn how to do it without any trouble!

Whenever Apple releases a product update they remove some features that we think it should get in the first version. Recently the owners of the first iPad model wanted to have video mirroring, which allows you to see everything that’s on iPad on a monitor or TV screen.

In the first iPad model and iPhone 4, this feature works only when you try to watch videos. To do this, you must first purchase the HDMI adapter from Apple. Only 2 iPad can do the live display on a larger-external-screen.

If you have the first iPad model (we are calling it iPad 1), learn how to make the video mirroring without losing quality or speed. To do this, you must be using version 4.3 or higher and jailbreak the device (see how to jailbreak it here).

After the jailbreak, you must navigate inside iPad folders (you can do this using SSH or iPhone Explorer):

Go to this folder:
system/library/coreservices/springboard.app/

Copy the K48AP.plist file to your computer and open it with an appropriate editor (on a Mac open it with Xcode.app, on Windows search for Plist Editor)

Add the “display-mirroring” property with “boolean” type and define it’s value with “Yes”, just like this screenshot:

Save the file and send it back to the iPad, replacing the older one.

Restart your iPad and you’re ready!

Now you can just see the video mirroring using iPad 1, just like iPad 2.

Every once a product is released with Google Talk features, it seems that a new Google product was launched from scratch. The difference between them is so intense that a question comes: does Google lost Google Talk source code?

When Google launched Google Talk (Gtalk) in 2005, it was good rated because it allows voice chat and text over the Internet using XMPP / Jabber open protocol. That time the application came to compete with MSN, AIM and Yahoo! Messenger as desktop client. Shortly Google added the Gtalk chat ability to Gmail allowing more people who had no knowledge about Google Talk to chat with their friends. It was so successful that many today refer only to “Gmail Chat”. Over time Google has integrated Google Talk in Orkut, iGoogle and Google Docs, each with specific functions, but never updated its desktop version. In addition to chat, see the list of different features that each Gtalk product have:

In the above table you can analyze the various platforms that Google Talk works. Furthermore, we mention Jabber clients also because most of them allows you to use almost all Google Talk features (as the iChat included with Mac OS X). One more thing: Gmail notifications are only available if you’re using Google Chrome. There are still minor features like emoticons that aren’t available in desktop client or in some clientes can’t be viewed or chosen.

We didn’t mention Google Docs here because it’s specific to that purpose, but it doesn’t make it less interesting: it enables document cooperation and live editing. It’s goal isn’t a random chat and it’s related only to the document. Some of its features are based on the Google Wave collaboration features.

For mobile devices, there are clients for mobile browsers that support only text and there’s a special version for Android, which can send notifications to the phone.

The Google Talk help forum has been deactivated recently and we can see that users want features that makes Google Talk closer to its competitors:

An unified web interface, not necessarily integrated with Gmail

All existing features from clients in that web interface and the desktop client

A client for iPhone and Android with text, voice and video capabilities

The difference between clients is visible. After the initial release of the desktop client, several web clients were created, none of them with all features from the installable version and changes occurs slowly. Each new client launched by Google gives the impression that it’s a new product and not the good old Google Talk. The question is: does Google lost the desktop client source code or is it a strategy to use cloud services? We’ll keep watching its progress.
