Riggs Community Health Center Announces Vice

President of Human Resources

Lafayette, Ind. -Marguerite Carless, has joined the Riggs Community Health Center (Riggs CHC) as Vice President of Human Resources.

Ms. Carless joins Riggs CHC with over 15 years of experience in human resources. Ms. Carless received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette in 1995. She is a current member of the Tippecanoe County Human Resources Association.

"The Center and our employees are fortunate to have a Human Resources specialist of Ms. Carless's caliber," said Veronique LeBlanc, President and CEO of TCHC. "With 15 years experience in her field, Marguerite adds tremendous value and will be instrumental in aligning HR strategies with our vision as an organization."

Established in 1988, Riggs CHC is a not-for-profit, federally qualified health center that provides quality health and dental care to area residents who have limited financial resources. In 2010, the Center treated 11,466 patients with over 43,363 office visits.

Riggs Community Health Center Announces New Medical Director

Lafayette, Ind. – Veronique LeBlanc, President & CEO of the Riggs Community Health Center (Riggs CHC) is pleased to announce Ronald Louks, MD, MBA has been selected to serve as the center’s Vice President of Medical Affairs.

Dr. Louks earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1977 and his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine Indianapolis in 1981. He also received a MBA from Ball State University in 2004.

Dr. Louks is a member of the American College of Physcians and a Vanguard member of the American College of Physcian Executives. He has extensive experience with pharmacuetical companies through the Speakers Buearu.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Louks joining the Center,” said Veronique LeBlanc, Riggs CHC’s President & CEO. “His experience will not only aid in caring for our current patients, but will also help us to expand and improve the functioning of our center.”

Riggs CHC Welcomes New Providers

Lafayette, Ind. -Riggs Community Health Center (Riggs CHC) welcomes two providers to the Riggs CHC family, and embraces their commitment to serving patients. Joining Riggs CHC is Family Practice Physician Juliana Gaeta, MD and Registered Dental Hygienist Autumn DeLey.

Dr. Gaeta received her Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1997 and a her medical degree from Ross University in 2003. She did her residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH. Dr. Gaeta is Board Certified in Family Medicine and is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Autumn DeLey, RDH received a BS in Dental Hygiene from the University of Michigan in 2009. Ms. DeLey joins Riggs CHC's dental program.

Lafayette, Ind. -Veronique LeBlanc, President & CEO of Riggs Community Health Center is pleased to announce J Alan Hershey, D.D.S. has been selected to serve as the Vice President of Dental Affairs.

Dr. Hershey received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan in 2002, and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2008. Dr. Hershey also completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency in 2010.

Riggs Community Health Center Awarded $3.55 Million Toward Expansion

Lafayette, Ind. -Riggs Community Health Center will receive $3.55 million toward a facility expansion. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced awards of $727 million to 143 community health centers across the country to address pressing construction and renovation needs and expand access to quality health care. The funds are the first in a series of awards that will be made available to community health centers under the Affordable Care Act.

Community health centers serve nearly 19 million patients, about 40 percent of whom have no health insurance. Community health centers deliver preventive and primary care services at more than 7,900 service delivery sites around the country to patients regardless of their ability to pay; charges for services are set according to income. Locally Riggs Community Health Center served 11,024 patients with 41,463 office visits in 2009.

"There is no question that the economic downturn has made it harder for some Americans to get health care and important preventive services. Community Health Centers provide quality healthcare services to Americans across the country but are a life line for those who have lost coverage or are between jobs. These funds from the Affordable Care Act will help get more people care in some communities where there have not been many options in the past," said Secretary Sebelius. "The newly constructed or expanded community health centers will provide care to an additional 745,000 patients and much needed employment opportunities in both rural and urban underserved communities."

Over the next five years, the Affordable Care Act provides $11 billion in funding for the operation, expansion and construction of community health centers across the country. This expansion of sites and services will help community health centers to serve nearly double the number of patients receiving care, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

"Many of these community health centers need more modern space to meet the increasing patient demand for services. These funds will help community health centers build new facilities and modernize their current sites in their continuing effort to provide the best care possible to more and more people in need," said HRSA Administrator Mary K. Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N.
