Working on El Espíritu Santo y yo, written by Pastor Edwin Durán in collaboration with editor Ofelia Pérez, was a particularly meaningful project that allowed me to combine illustration and editorial design in service of a spiritual message.

The book explores the significance of the Holy Spirit’s presence in everyday life, inviting readers to develop a deeper and more personal relationship with God through faith, guidance, and spiritual growth.

For the cover, I created an original digital painting designed to visually represent the journey of faith described throughout the book. The composition portrays a solitary figure walking along an illuminated path while carrying a lantern, a biblical symbol of the Holy Spirit inspired by the Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1–13). The lantern becomes both a source of guidance and a representation of spiritual readiness, reflecting one of the book’s central themes.

The warm earth tones, textured brushwork, and dramatic contrast between light and darkness were intentionally chosen to create an atmosphere of reflection, hope, and purpose. The winding path reinforces the idea of faith as a personal journey guided by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Beyond the cover illustration, the interior design was developed with a clean and minimalist approach. The layout prioritizes readability through generous white space, carefully considered typography, and a clear visual hierarchy. Pull quotes, chapter openings, and balanced page compositions help guide the reader while maintaining a calm and distraction-free reading experience.

Every design decision was made to support the book’s message rather than compete with it. The result is an editorial experience that allows readers to engage deeply with the text while reinforcing its themes visually.

Projects like El Espíritu Santo y yo remind me that editorial design extends beyond aesthetics. It is about creating meaningful connections between content, imagery, and the reader, allowing design to become part of the message itself.

Bringing The Well Woman to Spanish-Speaking Readers

Some projects are especially rewarding because of what they represent beyond the design itself. La Mujer del Pozo, the Spanish-language edition of Heather Barfield’s The Well Woman, was one of those projects.

I had the opportunity to develop the editorial design for this book in close collaboration with editor Ofelia Pérez. Together, we worked to create an edition that felt clear, inviting, and purposeful while honoring the message and spirit of Heather’s original work.

The design takes a clean, understated approach, allowing the content to remain at the center of the reading experience. Strong typographic hierarchy, generous use of white space, chapter openers, maps, illustrations, and guided reflection pages help establish rhythm throughout the book while making it easy for readers to navigate between storytelling, Scripture, and personal reflection.

The cover extends that visual language with the well as its central image—a simple but powerful connection to the story at the heart of the book. The restrained color palette and expressive title treatment bring together a contemporary editorial aesthetic and the deeply personal nature of Heather’s message.

I’m incredibly happy with how the finished book came together, but even more grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project that means so much to its author.

With La Mujer del Pozo, Heather Barfield is bringing a deeply meaningful part of her work to the Spanish-speaking market and opening the door for a new audience to experience its message. The Lord’s Prayer / El Padre Nuestro: Designing Faith for Young Readers

Designing for children means seeing the page a little differently. It needs to feel inviting, intuitive, and full of discovery—while making sure the design never gets in the way of the story.

The Lord’s Prayer / El Padre Nuestro, by Samuel and Joann González (Linaje Escogido), gave me the opportunity to approach those challenges through the cover design and interior layout of a bilingual children’s book centered on one of Christianity’s most familiar prayers.

This was a truly collaborative project. Samuel and Joann González developed the book, Ezekiel González created the illustrations, Ofelia Pérez served as editor, and my role was to bring the visual elements together through cover and editorial design.

Designing Around the Illustrations

Ezekiel’s illustrations established a playful, expressive visual world, so my approach was to let that personality guide the design rather than compete with it.

For the cover, I worked with the existing illustration to create a composition that immediately communicates warmth, family, and prayer. The hand-drawn character of the typography complements the illustration style and gives the title an approachable quality, while the interplay between English and Spanish makes the bilingual nature of the book part of its visual identity.

Inside, the layout was designed to give the illustrations room to tell the story while integrating both languages naturally into each spread. Scale, placement, white space, and typography were carefully balanced so young readers could move comfortably between image and text without losing the sense of play and wonder.

The result is a book where illustration and editorial design work together as one continuous experience.

From Reading to Interaction

The project also included a coloring-book edition, which required adapting the visual system to a different kind of experience.

Without color, the illustrations take on a new purpose: instead of simply viewing the world of the book, children are invited to participate in it. The cover maintains a clear visual connection to the original edition while identifying the coloring book as its own companion piece.

Working on The Lord’s Prayer / El Padre Nuestro was a rewarding reminder of what collaboration can bring to a project. Authors, illustrator, editor, and designer each contributed a different part of the experience, ultimately bringing everything together into a book created to help children engage with the Lord’s Prayer in both English and Spanish.

Sostenida por Su gracia: Un testimonio de fe, pérdida y restauración is a deeply personal memoir by Anabel Nieves that shares a journey of faith through seasons of loss, healing, and restoration. More than a personal story, the book offers hope and encouragement to readers facing life's most difficult moments, reminding them that God's grace is sufficient even in times of suffering.

This project was the result of a collaborative effort between author Anabel Nieves, editor Ofelia Pérez, and myself, Rick Lipsett, as the graphic designer responsible for both the cover and interior layout.

The cover was designed to communicate the heart of the book before a single page is turned. The photograph of the author, embracing herself while looking upward with peace and gratitude, reflects a life sustained by God's grace. The bold, oversized typography gives visual emphasis to the word gracia ("grace"), making it the focal point of the composition and reinforcing the central message of the testimony. The natural coastal setting further supports the themes of renewal, hope, and spiritual restoration.

Inside, the editorial design embraces a clean and minimalist aesthetic that allows the author's voice to remain the primary focus. Thoughtfully selected typography, generous white space, and a clear visual hierarchy create a comfortable reading experience, encouraging readers to immerse themselves in each chapter without distraction.

Special attention was given to chapter openings and pull quotes, creating moments of visual pause that invite reflection while maintaining consistency throughout the book. Every design decision was made with the intention of supporting the emotional journey of the narrative and allowing the message to resonate naturally with the reader.

Projects like Sostenida por Su gracia remind me that editorial design is more than arranging words on a page. It is about creating a visual experience that complements the author's story and helps readers connect with it on a deeper level.

Bringing "De la A a la meta" to Life

De la A a la meta, by Fayra Castro, was special not only because of the final result, but because of what it represents to the author behind it.

This was my first collaboration with Fayra Castro, founder of El Mensaje Comunicaciones and Asociación Glocal. Together with editor Ofelia Pérez, we had the opportunity to help bring to completion a deeply personal project that Fayra had held close to her heart.

From the beginning, we knew this book deserved thoughtful attention.

A Personal Journey, Transformed into a Book

Inspired by the 13.1 miles of a half marathon, De la A a la meta uses the experience of running a race as a metaphor for pursuing the dreams and goals we sometimes put aside as life demands our attention.

Throughout the book, Fayra combines personal stories, biblical principles, and practical exercises to encourage readers to identify what may be holding them back, reconnect with goals they have left on pause, and move forward with faith and perseverance.

The underlying idea is beautifully simple: you don't have to run someone else's race.

You have to keep moving forward in your own.

Designing with the Reader in Mind

Our work on the book went beyond simply getting it ready for publication.

We gave careful thought to the details that shape the reader’s experience—from the visual language of the cover to the pacing and presentation of the interior pages.

The original illustration featured on the cover was created by artist Aura Naomi Ruiz. As the project evolved, I made several changes and adaptations to the artwork to integrate it into the final cover design and bring the visual direction of the book together. Aura’s illustration provided an important creative foundation for the cover and the sense of movement at the heart of the project.

That sense of movement continues inside the book. Its running metaphor provided a natural foundation for the design, with the journey organized around “miles” that create visual and conceptual milestones as readers progress. Reflective prompts, illustrations, quotations, and space for personal responses turn reading into a more active experience.

Every element needed to support the message rather than compete with it.

That balance mattered.

Our goal was to create a book that felt approachable and engaging while honoring the personal nature of Fayra’s writing and giving readers room to pause, reflect, and make the journey their own.Care in Every Detail

Books are experienced in details.

A page that invites you to stop.

A phrase given enough space to resonate.

An illustration that reinforces an idea without needing to explain it.

A visual transition that tells the reader it is time to move into the next stage of the journey.

Working alongside Fayra and Ofelia, we approached those details with care and intention. There was a great deal of thought behind the finished product because we wanted the book to do more than look polished. We wanted its design and editorial presentation to help the message reach the reader clearly.

The result is a project in which content, editing, and design work together toward the same purpose.

Helping a Meaningful Project Reach Its Finish Line

There is something particularly fitting about helping complete a book centered on perseverance, purpose, and reaching a goal.

What began as a personal project close to Fayra's heart is now a finished book that can make its way into the hands of readers and, hopefully, encourage them to take another step toward something they have been postponing.

For me, it was a privilege to be part of that process and to collaborate with Fayra Castro and Ofelia Pérez in giving this project the attention and care it deserved.

Sometimes reaching the finish line is the end of the journey.

And sometimes, as with a book, it is where an entirely new journey begins.

Pensamientos desde el corazón del Pastor is a collection of 64 devotional reflections by Pastor Eliezer Acevedo, each inspired by Scripture and written to encourage, strengthen, and build the reader's faith.

This project was the result of a close collaboration between author Eliezer Acevedo, editor Ofelia Pérez, and myself, Rick Lipsett, as the graphic designer responsible for both the cover and interior layout.

The cover design centers on a thoughtful portrait of Pastor Acevedo reading the Bible, visually communicating the origin of the book's reflections. Rather than presenting a posed image, the composition captures a quiet moment of meditation on God's Word, reinforcing the idea that these writings are born from biblical reflection and shared with the purpose of edifying the reader. The restrained color palette, elegant typography, and minimalist composition create a timeless visual identity that reflects the contemplative nature of the book.

Inside, the editorial design follows a clean and minimalist approach, placing readability above all else. Generous white space, carefully selected typography, and a consistent visual hierarchy create a calm reading experience that allows each devotional message to take center stage. The layout encourages readers to slow down, reflect, and engage with the content without unnecessary visual distractions.

To enrich the reading experience, subtle monochromatic illustrations accompany selected reflections. These graphic elements reinforce the themes of each devotional while preserving the clean aesthetic and maintaining the focus on the text.

Projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful editorial design can support the author's message, transforming a collection of reflections into a cohesive and engaging reading experience.

From the earliest concepts to the final files, every stage of the process was both creatively fulfilling and deeply meaningful.

What made this project especially enjoyable was the opportunity to collaborate closely with editor Ofelia Pérez and author Jennifer Robles. Their passion, dedication, and clear vision for the book created an inspiring creative environment that made the entire process a pleasure. Working alongside them allowed us to build a visual experience that supports the book's powerful message of faith, perseverance, and spiritual strength.

MAMI, Abrázame: Mi fe venció la tormenta speaks directly to mothers who have faced moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, guilt, or pain while raising their children and navigating life's challenges. Through honesty, spiritual insight, and unwavering trust in God, Jennifer Robles offers encouragement and guidance for mothers engaged in the spiritual battles of this generation.

The book reminds readers that they are not alone. Through faith, prayer, and integrity, mothers can stand firm through life's storms and trust in God's victory, even when the challenges seem overwhelming.

Editorial Design for Cuando la gracia restaura

I recently had the privilege of designing the cover, interior layout, and full book formatting for Cuando la gracia restaura, written by Pastor and Dr. Peter Ramos and edited by Ofelia Pérez.

This project was especially meaningful, not only because of the creative and editorial process involved, but also because of the message at the heart of the book: restoration, grace, and hope beyond brokenness.

From the beginning, the goal was to create a visual identity that felt both strong and approachable. One that could support the emotional and spiritual depth of the manuscript while maintaining clarity, readability, and a modern editorial aesthetic.

The cover design was developed to visually communicate authority and dignity, combining bold typography with a warm and trustworthy visual presence. For the interior, I focused on creating a clean and structured reading experience through thoughtful typography, spacing, hierarchy, and page composition. Elements such as chapter openers, pull quotes, and pacing throughout the layout were carefully crafted to complement the reflective tone of the content.

Cuando la gracia restaura addresses marriage, divorce, healing, and new beginnings through the lens of grace rather than condemnation. It presents a balanced perspective that honors God’s design for marriage while also emphasizing the transformative power of forgiveness, redemption, and restoration through Christ.

Working alongside Pastor Peter Ramos and editor Ofelia Pérez was a tremendous experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project with such a meaningful message and purpose.

Working on ¿Qué clase de oveja soy yo? by Pastor Iván Burgos was a rare opportunity to shape a book from the inside out—conceptually, visually, and emotionally.

A 360° Creative Process

From the very beginning, the goal was clear: create a visual language that reflects the book’s spiritual depth while remaining accessible and engaging.

I had the privilege to develop:

Cover & back cover design
Interior layout and typesetting
Original sheep illustrations

Every element was crafted to support the same central question the book poses to the reader:
What kind of sheep am I?

The Cover: A Direct, Emotional Hook

The cover needed to do one thing instantly—make the reader pause.

A close-up of a sheep’s eye creates an intimate, almost confrontational moment. The bold typography reinforces the question, turning it into a personal challenge rather than just a title.

Interior Design: Clarity Meets Reflection

The interior was designed for readability and rhythm:

Clean typography for long-form reading
Balanced margins to create breathing space
Structured chapters that guide reflection

The layout supports the message without distracting from it—allowing the content to lead.

Illustrations: Visual Storytelling with Purpose

The sheep illustrations play a key narrative role.
They are not decorative—they interpret behavior, attitude, and spiritual states.

Each scene visually reinforces the themes explored in the text:

Guidance vs. distraction
Obedience vs. resistance
Community vs. isolation

A Collaboration Built on Trust

This project was a true collaboration—defined by trust, clarity, and professionalism. From the get-go, working with the Pastor and Ofelia Pérez, the editor was being a part of a Dream Team.

Isaias Mercado’s The 10 F Words of Feedback

Some books are meant to be read. Others are designed to be worked through, reflected on, and revisited.

The 10 F Words of Feedback, written by Isaias Mercado, belongs firmly in the second category. From the start, this project was envisioned not only as a book, but as a hands-on workbook—one that invites readers to actively engage with the concepts, challenge their thinking, and apply feedback in meaningful ways.

My role in this project went beyond traditional interior book design. In addition to designing the layout, I created a system of custom icons and graphic illustrations to visually communicate the author’s key concepts. These elements work as visual anchors throughout the book, helping readers quickly recognize themes and ideas while reinforcing the learning experience.

Because the book functions as a workbook, the interior design required careful attention to structure and usability. Tables, questionnaires, guided exercises, and reflective questions were thoughtfully designed to feel clear, intuitive, and inviting—making it easy for readers to write, pause, and think as they move through each section. Every page was designed to support clarity, flow, and practical application.

This was truly a high-caliber collaborative project. The cover design was created by Omar Galarza, setting a strong visual tone from the first impression. Editorial work and consulting was led by Ofelia Pérez, whose expertise helped bring cohesion to the project. Together with the author, we worked as a unified team to transform complex ideas into a clear, engaging, and professional finished product.

Projects like this are a reminder that the best editorial work happens when strategy, design, and content align. When collaboration is intentional, the result is not just a book, but a tool readers can truly use.

Designing the Message Before the Messenger

Digital Invitation Concepts for MJC9 – Catacumba 9, Cayey, Puerto Rico

Not every event promotion is about the guest. Sometimes, it is about the conversation.

For the visit of Brenna Blain to the young adults ministry of Ministerio de Jóvenes MJC9 at Iglesia Catacumba 9, the goal was clear from the start: this was not meant to feel like a celebrity appearance. It was meant to feel like a safe, honest, heart-to-heart conversation.

The campaign consisted of digital invitation flyers designed specifically for social media, with adaptability in mind. Each concept was created to function across multiple formats and placements while maintaining visual consistency and clarity.

Three Creative Directions

I developed three distinct visual approaches for the event announcement:

Concept 1 – The Speaker as the Central Focus (top image)
This version positioned Brenna prominently, highlighting her presence and name in a bold, high-impact composition. It emphasized recognition and authority, a common strategy when promoting a well-known guest.

Concept 2 – Balanced Spotlight
The second direction integrated her image with the book reference and event information in a more balanced structure. The goal was to communicate both the person and the theme equally.

Concept 3 – Conversation Over Personality (Selected Version)
The final concept shifted the focus intentionally. Instead of presenting Brenna as the protagonist, we visually reduced her presence to a more subtle facial framing. The typography and message “De corazón a corazón” became the dominant element.

This decision was strategic.

The objective was not to promote the guest per se, but to promote a safe and meaningful conversation around deep and sensitive topics relevant to young adults. By adjusting the composition and minimizing the full-body prominence, the visual hierarchy placed the emphasis on dialogue, community, and shared experience rather than on personality.

The selected version allowed the event to feel accessible, intimate, and aligned with the ministry’s mission.

Strategic Design Considerations

Clear visual hierarchy for mobile-first viewing
Strong typographic contrast for instant readability
Adaptability to square, vertical, and horizontal formats
Balance between emotional tone and institutional identity
Messaging aligned with the ministry’s core values

In faith-based communication, visual decisions are never just aesthetic. They shape perception, tone, and expectation.

This project is a reminder that effective design is not about making something louder—it is about making it clearer.

The visual journey of the book began with the cover, beautifully designed by Halina Viahera. Her work set a thoughtful and emotional tone that became the foundation for the interior design. From there, my role was to translate that visual language into the pages themselves—creating an interior that felt warm, reflective, and intentional, allowing the content to breathe and resonate with the reader.

Designing the interior of this book was a truly rewarding experience. The subject matter invited care and sensitivity, calling for a layout that felt calm, inviting, and respectful of the author’s voice. Every design decision was made to support a reading experience that feels personal, almost like a quiet conversation between the author and the reader.

The editorial process was guided by Ofelia Pérez, whose thoughtful approach helped refine and strengthen the manuscript for this updated edition. Together, author, editor, cover designer, and interior designer worked in close collaboration to bring this new version to life with clarity and coherence.

Every project has a story, and this one began with an invitation to collaborate creatively with Tommy Moya on his newly published book, El Ministerio de la Mujer en la Nueva Creación.

From the very first conversations, it was clear that this book was more than a manuscript—it was a message that needed to be felt, not just read. My role was to translate that vision into a visual experience that could live both in readers’ hands and on their screens.

I was responsible for the complete graphic design of the book, shaping every detail from cover to layout. Together, we brought the project to life in two formats: a printed edition and a digital version optimized for Kindle. Each version was carefully designed to preserve the essence of the message while adapting to the unique experience of each medium.

As part of the promotional strategy, we also created two custom bookmarks—small but meaningful pieces designed to extend the life of the book beyond its pages and invite readers to return to it again and again.

This project was edited by Ofelia Pérez, whose work helped bring clarity and structure to the final publication. Collaborations like this are a reminder of why I do what I do: turning ideas, words, and purpose into tangible design solutions that connect with people.

From the very first moment I learned about Pastor Arnaldo Ginés’s book concept, I was excited to collaborate in shaping the visual identity of his message. As both a designer and a pastor, I connected deeply with the theme, understanding its relevance for Christian leaders and communities.

Working together with editor Ofelia Pérez, we explored several cover designs and even different title options. In the end, the author chose to give it a more intimate and personal touch by featuring himself on the cover.

The interior layout was designed ensuring an optimal reading experience consistent with the book’s tone: straightforward, accessible, and full of grace.

DaddyKnows obtuvo su inspiración de la vida real de su autor, con giros y sorpresas que ciertamente pudieron haber ocurrido.

Quién Tú Eres - Grisel Lugo Rivera

When Grisel Lugo set out to create a devotional book for children—one that would affirm their identity as God’s perfect creation—I was thrilled to join the project. Together with editor Ofelia Pérez, we formed a creative team where I contributed as illustrator and graphic designer.

The result is a book with 30 days of biblical reflections, brought to life through original characters—Luis, Paola, Mom, and Dad—whom I designed specifically for this project. Each day also includes engaging activities that help children reinforce what they’ve learned while having fun along the way.

Illustrating and storytelling are two of my greatest passions, and this was truly a dream project. I was able to use my talents to communicate Grisel’s vision effectively, ensuring that every page carried the message she wanted to share.

El Rescate – Pastor José Montijo Soler

It’s always a privilege to collaborate with authors whose message resonates with my own values. That’s why it was such an honor to work with Pastor José Montijo Soler on his book El Rescate, where I was responsible for designing the cover and the interior layout.

For this project, I worked alongside editor Ofelia Pérez, and together we shaped the vision, tone, and approach that the author wanted to bring to life on each page.

We started by developing several cover concepts until we arrived at the design that truly captured his message. Then, we focused on the book’s interior, making sure the layout was optimal and showcased the content well.

The final result is an editorial product I’m proud to have contributed to. I wish Pastor Montijo the greatest success, and I invite you to discover his book, now available on Amazon.

Illustrated Bible Stories: A Project Born in Times of Pandemic

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministerio Cristiano de las Catacumbas in Puerto Rico launched a beautiful initiative: to create Bible stories that would accompany children who could no longer attend Sunday school. From that seed grew a collection of simple stories, designed to help us reflect and marvel at what God did… on that day.

The creative team, led by pastors Juan M. Frontera and Angelita Vargas, brought together talented collaborators: Pastor Luis Ramos (graphic designer), Raquel Álamo (writer), missionary Delma Ruíz (consultant), and myself, Rick Lipsett, as illustrator. Together we developed 52 Bible stories, which for an entire year served as a teaching tool for the Catacumbas church teachers across Puerto Rico.

Each week, teachers received a package that included:

Original illustrations (created by me).
Bible verses and teaching guides.
Videos available on YouTube.
Activities for children to do at home.

The experience was so enriching that, with the approval of the original creators, a new challenge emerged: to transform some of these teachings into illustrated books as well as new ones using this project's unique way of storytelling.

These books were carefully edited by Haydée Zayas-Ramos under Milina Editores, giving the series a professional finish and editorial polish.

Two Stories That Are Already Part of the Series

1. The Day God Stopped the Sun and the Moon
Joshua seeks justice for Israel’s allies and trusts God for every victory. In his favor, the Lord works great miracles—even stopping the sun and the moon—to give His people victory.

2. The Day Simeon’s Waiting Came to an End
Simeon receives a revelation: God would once again speak to His people, not through a prophet, but through someone much greater. His long wait comes to an end as he witnesses the fulfillment of God’s promise.

Illustrating to Inspire

In each book, I set out to create images that would capture children’s imagination, giving parents, grandparents, and Sunday school teachers a visual tool to share the Word in a close and memorable way.

Designing a Brand That Moves: The Oh Ride Case Study

Collaborating with José Enrique from Oh Ride was a real pleasure. I’ve known José for years, and I’ve always admired his entrepreneurial spirit someone who takes calculated risks and is committed to seeing things through. He entrusted me with developing the visual identity of his brand, and the creative process was deeply rewarding.

From the start, we agreed to explore three distinct design directions to help define a clear and strategic visual path for the brand.

Oh Ride is an emerging company with strong roots in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, where it has successfully offered scooter rentals for tourism and urban adventures experiences that are energetic, accessible, and fun. The brand’s tone is fresh, dynamic, and friendly, aimed at people who want to explore the city in a simple, enjoyable way.

Right now, Oh Ride is preparing for an ambitious expansion that will transform its reach and positioning. It’s not just about growth it’s about redefining the vehicle rental experience in Puerto Rico and beyond.

Our objective was clear: to position Oh Ride as the go-to brand for rentals and adventure modern, aspirational, and trustworthy. A brand that invites people to live unforgettable experiences on wheels… or in the air.

We developed three design directions that felt casual, joyful, and energetic. The name Oh Ride was crafted to sound like “Alright!” a playful expression that matches the brand’s vibe.

The first concept was a monogram. It reads “OH,” but also brings to mind a smiley face an immediate cue for positivity.

The second design leaned into the sound of the name, using a speech bubble to emphasize the brand's friendly and conversational tone. Its slanted design conveys speed and motion.

The third logo direction also used a subtle tilt to suggest movement. Negative space was used to form the shape of a top-down view of a car. An exclamation mark added a bold, energetic touch inviting people to say the name out loud, like a statement.

As part of the process, we presented each design concept in context on social media, uniforms, and the scooters themselves.

In the end, the chosen logo was the OH monogram.

To support the brand moving forward, we also created logo usage guidelines so the client knows exactly how to apply the design and what to avoid ensuring the brand always communicates its full personality and vision.

It was a wonderful experience working with OH Ride, and I’m excited to see where we’ll go next.

Honoring Puerto Rican Legacy Through Illustration

In December 2024, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Nuestra Escuela on a meaningful series of illustrations. The goal? To visually represent their commitment to honoring key historical dates—moments in which Puerto Rican voices stood firm for the good of our nation.

Each piece was created to highlight the strength, vision, and courage of figures who shaped Puerto Rico’s story. From poets to activists, these visuals were designed to celebrate the spirit of resilience that still inspires us today.

The Joy in the Process: Designing the Cairo Logo

Every now and then, a project brings so much joy in the making that—even if it doesn’t move forward—I still walk away grateful. That was the case with the Cairo logo.

This logo was commissioned by a graduating senior class who had chosen “Cairo” as their identity. They wanted a visual mark for their uniforms—something that captured the spirit and symbolism behind their name.

Their request included four key elements:

•⁠ ⁠The sun
•⁠ ⁠A lotus flower
•⁠ ⁠The Bible
•⁠ ⁠A pyramid

The challenge excited me. I set out to design a logo that would seamlessly bring all these elements together into a unified emblem. After rounds of exploration, I landed on a concept that I felt honored their vision and made sense visually.

Below, you can see the final design and how it would have looked embroidered onto their uniform shirts.

In the end, the class went with a different direction. But for me, the creative journey was worth every step. The process itself was the reward.

Designing a Family Business Logo with Meaning

One of the things I enjoy most about logo design is when the meaning runs deeper than just aesthetics. That was the case with this project—a logo for a family-run contracting business in Puerto Rico.

They’re hands-on experts, helping businesses get their spaces up and running—from structural fixes to functional details. But what truly stood out to me was how personal this brand was to them. The name itself was built from the initials of each family member, with a single letter rising above the rest: a “D” for *Dios*—God. In their words, He is the center of everything they do.

That intention became the heart of the design. I created a logo that reflects their unity as a family and their shared faith. I also mocked up how it could look on uniforms and signage, and even crafted a simplified icon/avatar for future use on social media—keeping that “D” front and center.

Illustration of Loved Ones

I've always loved to create illustrations that mean something. Here are a few of them I created some time ago for different families. The one on top, was for my parents when my children were very small. They were so exited to receive this. They still have it hanging on their living room wall, even though my kids are all grown-up now. It gives me great joy every time I see it.

If you come to my house, you'll also see several illustrations when coming in. This sequential art tells the story of when my wife and I were alone and how we developed into a family of four. The ones on top of these lines are two of the three that welcome our guests as they arrive to our home.

Later on, I was commissioned to create others. Immediately below these letters, you'll see my sister-in-law with her daughter when se was a baby.

Later I did some others that clients requested of me. Some of them, already here in my online portfolio. But I though the following one was noteworthy. It was commissioned for a Quinceañera. The three girls are the same one. I had lots of fun creating these illustrations.

Logo Design for Soul Spa Wellness Center

Some time ago I was commissioned to design a logo por Soul Spa Wellness Center. I was contacted as a freelancer for an Ad Agency and had the privilege to work with a long-time friend as my sales executive. He was the intermediary between the client and myself.

We ran through several iterations of what the logo would be. Exploring different venues until we were pleased with the result. Finally we arrived and the client has been using their logo since October 20, 2020 when they opened their doors for the first time.

Here are some icon variations for their brand identity.

And these were some of the logo alternatives we worked on during the process. It's aways a pleasure to collaborate with businesses and help them pursue their visions.
