Ideally, journal submissions (in any genre) will be both lyrical and analytic, exploring universal concepts related to the geometry and architecture of Nature. The journal encourages hybrid thinking and writing that reaches readers across multiple disciplines. Please read some of the articles on this website for a general overview. Submissions on the topic of "field axioms" will be reviewed for the Fall 2013 issue of the online publication journal:theanalyticpoem.

the analytic poem

theanalyticpoem is a project that builds relationships among diverse elements of art and science to create a concept map of Nature’s geometry. This is achieved through a portal that allows participants to contribute and experience ideas, images, text, graphics, sound, and video.
Drawing upon multidisciplinary affinities, impressions from these media will create an ever-expanding platform of connected ideas. In effect, the network samples a variety of phenomena through geometry – the goal is to enhance perception through a unity of formerly dissimilar aspects.

Blockbuster.pdf -- Call for Submissions

We find ourselves unable to turn our attention away from James Cameron on the ocean floor, tweeting “Hitting bottom never felt so good”; or The Hobbit on New Zealand Airlines flights; or Roger Ebert’s death atop headlines; or Tilda Swinton in MoMa, and Kubrick at LA County Museum of Art, and Herzog in the Whitney. The BLOCKBUSTER experience is crowd-sourcing, and everyday life is, more transparently, an act of audience.

The BLOCKBUSTER, therefore, will be the theme for the fifth issue of INCITE. Its objective is to challenge “normativity” and "otherness.” Its goal is to reinvent and re-present the body in most inclusive and diverse ways. Audio-visual screenings, readings, seminars, outdoor retreats, workshops and exercises uncover how our bodies are culturally and aesthetically constructed, displayed and controlled. Cinema, artworks, philosophy, theology, transpersonal psychology, post-colonialism and social movements are explored for ideas in transgressing these forces. Residents work individually or collaboratively to create artworks that reinvent the body through media of their choice, such as photography, video, installation, drawing, performance art, new media etc. Critiques of residents’ work in progress occur on a regular basis. Gibraltar Point offers rich potential for the creation of corporeal artworks amongst its blue-flag beaches (one of them being clothing optional) and natural surroundings of Lake Ontario, forests and gardens filled with flowers, fruit and vegetables. On the island, there are tiny quaint homes, a hobby farm and antique carnival grounds. The Toronto city core is just a 15-minute ferry ride away! The essence of Luminous Bodies is about bringing to light heterogeneous bodies. It welcomes people in all walks of life and genders into a creative journey of critical innovation and self-discovery.

Teresa Ascencao is a media artist whose work deals with gender and sexuality constructs through unique cultural perspectives and technological approaches. Most mobile devices (including tablets and pocket size digital cameras) have a HD video capacity and provide Internet connectivity. Since the proliferation of apps five years ago, new opportunities for creative mobile media production emerged. Mobile filmmaking is now an established format ranging from music video to TV commercial production. A number of contemporary apps feature location-based services that can create new experiences and representations of places. Mobile filmmaking also provides prospects for citizen journalist to expand the domain of videography. Contemporary forms of collaborative filmmaking projects connect 21st century citizens and filmmakers across the globe creating new forms of digital, networked and transmedia storytelling. As an egalitarian filmmaking tool and technology, mobile filmmaking provides access to a new generation of filmmakers. In alignment with the ubiquity of social media, mobile communication is shifting towards an increasingly visual realm. Live streaming and micro formats of mobile filmmaking can be compared to early cinema and actuality film, while mobile short films resonate approaches and practices known from the field of experimental documentary and avant-garde moving-image practices.

The 3nd International Mobile Creativity and Mobile Innovation Symposium will explore the following mobile developments and dynamics in a transdisciplinary context.

¬ MOBILE & PEDAGOGY
¬ MOBILE & MEDIA PRODUCTION
¬ MOBILE & AESTHETIC
¬ MOBILE & SOUND
¬ MOBILE & HYBRID ART
¬ MOBILE & INTERACTIVITY
¬ MOBILE & SPACE

MINA welcomes presentations in a variety of formats including academic papers, workshops, poster presentations, performances, project showcases and screenings. The 3nd International Mobile Creativity and Mobile Innovation Symposium will also provide the opportunity to present papers via live video and live web-broadcasts. The screening series is part of Experimental Media 2013, a broader WPA program that includes the exhibition Cyber In Securities at Pepco Edison Place Gallery and a series of discussions bringing together artists, technologists, and policy experts to discuss privacy, security, and surveillance.

WPA is particularly interested in works that explore and examine privacy and surveillance in contemporary society, from satellite surveillance down to patents on human genes, from government watch lists to exhibitionism in the age of social networking, from anonymity in Internet culture to the growth in corporate micro-targeting. As moving images play an integral role in our contemporary surveillance regimes – whether government-run, corporate, or selfinflicted - video provides an ideal medium to delve into the changing nature of privacy and surveillance in our digital age.

One artist whose work is chosen for the screening will be selected to win the Kraft Prize for New Media, a $500 cash prize.

Submission Guidelines
The call is open to all artists regardless of geographic location. Artists may submit up to three works of single-channel video, with a maximum duration of 5 minutes per video, along with a CV. The selected videos will be screened sequentially in an auditorium to a seated audience. It is recommended that artists consider the viewing context when selecting work to submit.

Videos can be submitted as links to work on file sharing websites (Vimeo, YouTube, etc) or on a personal website. Videos may be password protected and a password supplied in the submission form. The full length of each work submitted should be less than five minutes. Selected artists will be required to submit a file of the video to WPA so it may be included in the screening.

The final submission deadline is Friday, June 7, 2013 at 5pm. Work may be submitted through WPA’s website here: http://wpadc.org/em2013_video_submissionform

Artists with questions regarding the call or who prefer to submit their work via mail should contact Blair Murphy, WPA Program Director, at 202-234-7103 x 1 or bmurphy@wpadc.org.

About the Juror
Jason Eppink curates events and exhibitions, creates interactive experiences, and throws raging art parties as the Associate Curator of Digital Media at Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. ISSUE02

TMP has received amazing submissions for the second issue, Image vs. Data. I have also been sent emails asking for more time to complete some projects with the provided image. In response, I am extending the deadline to June 10th. I am so excited to share this issue with everyone. I hope a few more people can parcipate and I can not wait to begin work on TMP ISSUE02.

IMAGE vs DATA

Photography has long been concerned with data retention within the act of the photograph. Photographers are taught to expose, develop, and digitally capture in a method to maintain the most information possible. Every step in a photographer’s workflow is a careful dance to keep data. It doesn’t matter if we are talking film or digital, every photographic process is essentially the mastery of data retention. The reasoning is, having the most information available allows for the most creative interpretations of the information.

Touch.My.Prints wants to explore this concept of the photography as data as opposed to image. TMP will provide an image for every participant to take. Each participant will use the image as data and create a new piece of work. The new work can be video, sculpture, sound, video, even a drastic reinterpretation of the image, etc. A selection of the new works and their creators will be featured in Touch.My.Prints. ISSUE02.

The deadline is June 01, 2013.

INSTRUCTIONS

Save the image. Use the data the image file provides to create a new piece of work. The new work can take any form, any medium, any function, in fact, preferably so. Then send the new work to TouchMyPrints @ gmail .com following the guidelines below.

Places to find the image.
The latest post here http://www.touch-my-prints.com/
Or the post page here http://www.touch-my-prints.com/image/49449072303
Or the image URL here http://24.media.tumblr.com/2de9226c2d298843476aad5b187c42e4/tumblr_mm6o6z4i9L1s7nkgmo1_1280.jpg

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please only submit 1-3 works for ISSUE02.

IMAGE SUBMISSIONS

Please submit files at 300 dpi, with the longest side being 10 inches, 8-bit and as a JPEG.

File Name would be Doe_Jane_01.jpeg

In the email (TouchMyPrints @ gmail .com) please list the following information.

Title, Year Produced
Medium (i.e. Screenshot / Digital Photograph / Digital Collage)
Your Website (Professional Site / Twitter / Tumblr / etc)

WRITING SUBMISSION

Please submit a RTF file.

Essays should be a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 2000.

Carefully copy edit your work before submitting.

File Name would be Doe_Jane_01.rtf

In the email (TouchMyPrints @ gmail .com) please list the following information.

Title, Year Produced
Your Website (Professional Site / Twitter / Tumblr / etc)

VIDEO SUBMISSION

Please submit a link to your Vimeo or Youtube + 1-3 film stills of the video. Keep working, pay as you go.
Work on-site and on-line, 2 winter sessions in New York, 3 summer sessions in Berlin, work wherever you live.

Become a Transartist, with a thriving international practice and career in 2 years.

Talk to Transartists, faculty and advisors by Skype or in person to hear more.
But first, apply for summer acceptance: June 15, 2013!

MFA program: http://www.transart.org/online-mfa-program-in-art/
MFA admissions http://www.transart.org/online-mfa-program-in-art/
Berlin Summer http://www.transart.org/summer/summer-schedule-2013
Transartfest http://www.transart.org/transartfest/
Transartists http://transartist.net/

Transart, the Unschool Art School
Berlin and New York
Validated by Plymouth University, UK
info@transart.org

Extended deadline ARTErra rural artistic residency PORTUGAL

ARTErra is a art residency placed in the heart of Portugal in a small village.
Here you can find the quietness and the resources and tools to develop you´re artistic and creating work
Prepared to receive multidisciplinary projects at the same time, you´ll have not just a comfortable house but also work rooms ,facilities, tools, and human resources that will make you´re tasks and goals easier.
Please contact us if you are thinking in doing a art residency.
We extended our deadline for the 2nd semester 2013 to 15th June.

Parsons - Call for Papers and Projects

PJIM: Call for Papers and Projects

Abstracts due: June 10, 2013
Full submissions due: June 28, 2013

The Parsons Journal for Information Mapping (PJIM) is calling for papers and projects for publication in the Summer Issue – The 3rd Issue of Volume V. PIIM’s mission is to advance the field of Knowledge Visualization through academic and commercial pursuits.

PIIM researchers and staff disseminate their expertise in information categorization, knowledge representation, information taxonomy development, information logic and raking/scoring, knowledge visualization, and Graphic User Interface (GUI) and User Experience Design (UXD) by developing powerful tools and methods for decision makers and analysts. PIIM’s work seeks to increase decision maker and analyst cognition of complex data sets via efficient experiences and visualizations.

In both its own research and its engagements with government agencies, corporations and other organizations, PIIM pushes the boundaries of information, engineering and visual design to develop new ways of thinking about information – and to build and deliver corresponding real world solutions.

For more information, visit http://piim.newschool.edu

Research on artistic process | culturia | Residency | Berlin

Open Call for Artists

Deadline: 9th of June

Date of Residency: 5th of August – 31st of October
Final Decision: 17th of June

Application form
http://culturia.de/application-form/

culturia invites international artists to conduct 12 weeks residency program in Berlin. We offer a unique residency experience consisting of daily writing practice and filmed interview recordings. Residents are expected as a result of the program to submit a text to Non Material Collection.

About culturia

culturia is a goal oriented artist in residence program and is set as a long term research project on artistic process. We develop a non material collection archiving texts written by artists. The program is set to entice and stimulate the writing practice through workshops, presentations and filmed interviews with invited artists, curators and other art professionals. All the material will be saved to create a knowledge base for researchers and be a starting point for development of future projects like exhibitions, publications and presentations. The concept is to keep the “non-material” which exists during the pursuit of the artists to the final material artwork. Accomplishing this the content cease to exist. culturia definition of non materiality can be understood only in this opposition.

Who may apply

culturia invites artists who have a need to reflect upon their cultural context, predispositions, way of creating, and the ideal definition of art. There are no restrictions on media and limitations regarding age.

We offer

Program gives the artists a tool set which will support the process by offering them a possibility to stop for a moment, mirror themselves in the conversations, take time and sit down to re-read the diary entries, notes on not realized ideas, experience the Berlin art world.

Feedback meetings on a text written by artists: concentrated on the artists’ texts in progress and the final outcome of the residency
Interview preparation conservations: meetings between an artist and curator to prepare questions for the interview,
Filmed interview recording sessions: artists articulate and mirrors his/her views on art during three recording sessions in conversation with curators,
Living space: a flat with 4 bedrooms, co-workings space and 2 balconies, internet…
Costs

Artists are asked to participate in the residency costs in amount of 275 euro per month and 200 euro for the deposit (deposit is transferred after confirmation of application of the artists to culturia bank account and returned at the end of the residency).

culturia is looking for

- An engaged and responsible participation in the program and its formats during the residency time frame
- Commitment to video interviews
- Submission of the text written by artist /weekly/ and final to Non Material Collection
- Openness for conversation
- Presence in Berlin while conducting the residency
- Fluency in English language

How to apply

- Completed online application form – to find under following link
- CV (Education/ Research projects / Exhibitions)
- Portfolio with examples of recent works (choice of 5 to 10 works)
- culturia will conduct skype interviews with shortlisted applicants

Read an interview with culturia makers by Katrina Neumann || Rate My Artist Residency on
http://ratemyartistresidency.com/2013/05/24/5-qs-culturia-berlin/

For inquiries and further information
info@culturia.de | http://culturia.de/

Office: Soldiner str. 92, 13359 Berlin, Germany

Call for Artists - Governors Island Art Fair

Govenors Island Art Fair is seeking independent artists worldwide working in all disciplines (painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, sound, performance art, and more) to apply for the Govenors Island Art Fair--New York’s largest independent exhibition. Deadline for submissions: July 15, 2013

----------------

Sex, technology, identity... big-ass sweeping themes for Arse Elektronika 2013.

Identity, but also identification. Technologies for the exploration of identities. Technologies for the articulation and performance of identities. Technologies for the enforcement of hegemonic identities. Technologies for the verification of identities. For example: What about the vast fencing-off of the old wild internet; the #nym-wars and the push for "real names"?

We typically assume there is 'something' that takes and/or performs an identity. What is this entity? Are awareness and consciousness strictly limited to and made sense of in human experience alone? How is identity understood and made sense of in terms of artificial intelligence? What might transhuman, android, or cyborg identities consist of? What does sexual desire mean to a dolphin?

We have technology-based identities. If we are to agree that agency is a key factor in identity AND position technology as extension/manipulation of agency, then is technology an identity in and of itself?

The Bay Area, famous as a place to "find yourself," also hosts vast projects to organize and catalog the world's identities, whether they want that or not. So, how does the Californian Ideology drive identity politics and techno-sexuality?

Will apps like Bang With Friends and gadgets like Google Glass provide us with the ultimate gonzo pornoverse? And why are services like LinkedIn explicitly banning escorts from using the site to get clients?

What have been the social ramifications of Web 2.0, ten years on? By what means have queer users of dating sites and social networks reframed or otherwise hacked the systems surrounding them? What is the design history of the drop-down gender menu- and its alternatives? How did Facebook's inclusion of "in an open relationship" as a standard option for one's relationship status affect youth mores? What has been the effect of location-based hookup apps on the architecture of cruising? What are the economics of niche dating sites, and how are they policed? What are the ethical obligations surrounding the ability to algorithmically identify those who are in the closet?

What technologies could ensure more flexible, fluid identities? What would TSA protocols look like if they were designed from a queer perspective? What does counter-surveillant fashion look like? How might we ensure the right not to be found? (Should we?) Are there technologies for anonymity that do not also afford stalking and harassment? Are there technologies for transparency that do not also afford stalking and harassment?

If an identity requires recognition (either by the self or through the Other), then is it ever possible to be "truly" or "identifiably" queer? Is 'queer identity' an oxymoron?

Former Tory chairman Lord Tebbit warns that legalizing gay marriage in the UK "opens up the possibility of a lesbian queen giving birth to a future monarch by artificial insemination." Interesting times for sex tech? Indeed!

What about a historic dimension? What were techno-sexual systems of identity like in the past? What were the technologies of masked rituals? What technologies drove the invention of privacy? How did the adoption of fingerprinting change the regulation of prostitution in the early 20th century? Besides hanky-flagging, what techniques/technologies were used to signal 'deviant' interests? How was handwriting judged in the evaluation of potential lovers? What is the techno-social history of the "secret admirer?"

How will technological progress change the way we see ourselves? What are we without our iPhone and our beloved designer vibrator? Is the Marxian commodity fetish actually entering the sphere of (what a wordplay!) customization fetishism?

If orgasm patterns are unique and impossible to duplicate, could one's sexual response be the ultimate biometric identifier? So, how worried should we be about the spectre of sphincter-printing?

What about Big Data in a sexual context? Does size matter?

What about a decent ontological debate with your buttplug's AI?

Well... dear entities out there, with your proud Egos, Super-Egos and Hyper-Egos! Never forget that there is an Id lurking round the corner! The real Voight-Kampff test is not minding that it hurts!

----------------

Please submit through our form: http://bit.ly/18eOWEP
Deadline for submissions: July 15, 2013

For questions, please email: office AT monochrom.at

Call for Entries! 10th One Minute Film & Video Festival Aarau. HERE supports multidisciplinary work that does not fit into a conventional programming agenda. Our aesthetic represents the independent, the innovative, and the experimental. HERE supports the work of artists at all stages in their careers through fully-produced works, commissions and subsidized performance and rehearsal space. In addition, HERE’s staff provides marketing, technical and administrative support. All work at HERE is curated based on the strength and uniqueness of the artist’s vision.

One of our most vital services, the SubletSeries@HERE Program, supports 250 guest independent artists and groups—such as New Georges, Vampire Cowboys, and ViBe Theater Experience (an educational arts group for underserved urban teen girls)—and their audiences each season.

This creative curated rental program has allowed many upstart companies and emerging artists to realize their full artistic vision on a small budget. The program provides subsidized performance and rehearsal space, technical assistance, and administrative support, including a fully staffed box office. SubletSeries@HERE artists can also access equipment that is not typically available in venues our size such as video projectors, wireless microphones, color scrollers—all for free or at subsidized rates. We accept applications from artists all over the world for the opportunity to show work.

For more information, and to fill out an online application, please visit the SubletSeries@HERE website at: http://here.org/programs/subletseries/

Call for Participants, Piksel Remote Hacklab: Experimental Communication System Open Workshop, Venice, May 28-29th.

Piksel Remote Hacklab: Experimental Communication System Open Workshop,

Free 2-day workshop, Venice, May 28-29th, 12pm-late.

Recent studies have shown that the electrical resistance in soil above a buried carcass has a different resistivity to that of near by soil due to the decomposition of bodily tissue. The body leaves a “real”, quantifiable electrical trace when it is dead. Following this idea that traces of the dead can be measured via electricity it may be possible that these traces can be found elsewhere such as in the electromagnetic field.

In this workshop the construction of various electronic devices which apparently enhance the possibility of communication with spirits both audibly and visibly will be undertaken. Attempts at direct electromagnetic induction from such a vitalist earth to human brain will be made in the construction of a diy earth-brain interface, along with devices such as the Germanium Trans-Dimensional Communication Receptor (TDC) and other EMF detectors, emitters, and amplifiers.
These will then be applied to Venetian decomposing geo-bio canal soup mixes in a final experimental communication system performance.

The workshop is free. Places limited to 10.
May 28 - 29th, 12pm - late.

Officina delle Zattere,

Fondamenta Nani, 947 Dorsoduro

30123 Venezia, Italia

(Vaporetto stop: Zattere or Academia)

rsvp x@xxn.org.uk

http://mov-artist.com/

http://mov-artist.com/piksel/index.html

http://nnnnn.org.uk/doku.php?id=experimental_communication

cfp: Online interactive works in the Digital Humanities

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley is seeking online creative works in the Digital Humanities to be exhibited in conjunction with our annual New Works Festival.
