The Department of Studio Art at UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts is conducting a search for a designer/artist with an emphasis in critical design practices for the position of Assistant Professor. The Department of Studio Art offers both the Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) and the Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA). The effective starting date for the position is January 1, 2013.
We seek an individual of international reputation working at the forefront of interdisciplinary design practices and with a proven record of engagement and collaboration with members of the public and the academy outside of their artistic disciplines.

While expertise in established design and art practices is desirable, we are interested in candidates who think expansively and critically about creative technologies and the role design will play in 21st century culture. Areas of design-related expertise of particular interest include but are not limited to: design theory and history; environment-oriented design; experiential design; interaction design; communication design; design for location-specific content, computer-aided design; 3D design for prototyping and sculpture; motion graphics and 3D modeling; and social media. Applicants need to be confident in supporting the technical demands of their area(s) but be open to experimental and critical approaches to media. Currently, the School’s facilities include a wood shop, metal shop, sculpture studio, and labs specialized for video, digital photography, gaming, mechatronics, motion capture, telematic performance, and electronic music.

Responsibilities include a teaching load split between graduate and undergraduate courses, regular administrative departmental duties, oversight of the Digital Arts Minor program, and the ability to assume a leadership position within the area.

The successful candidate will join a department with a reputation for cross-disciplinary work, critical thinking, and socially engaged practice. S/he will also join a campus environment ripe for the expansion of design- related areas. A range of interesting design initiatives have emerged around campus such as the Design Alliance from School of Humanities, and the Laboratory for Ubiquitous Computing and Interaction (LUCI) within the School of Information and Computer Sciences. A successful candidate will be able to broaden and strengthen those ties, and build others, on campus, in the UC system and in the wider community.

MFA or PhD in Art or Design, or equivalent training
Several years of experience teaching at the post-secondary level and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, graduate supervision, and administrative service.

Database Manager

Creative Capital is looking for a detail-oriented database professional to manage and continue development on its organizational Filemaker Pro-based database, which houses the organization’s contact lists, archival list of applications, and project management systems. The Database Manager is solely responsible for this critical hub for organizational operations.

Candidates must have significant Filemaker Pro programming skills to maintain and enhance a complex legacy system, including experience with parameter-passing scripting, creating complex reports as well as ODBC-based interaction with live data in MySQL tables. In addition, the Database Manager will undertake a conversion of the entire system from Filemaker 11 to Filemaker 12.

The Manager will also be responsible for synchronization with other Information Technology systems, including MySQL databases, and Constant Contact email marketing integration as well as oversight and coordination of organizational data entry and tracking.

The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art is seeking an energetic and experienced Master Printer, who is a motivated self-starter and team player. The ICA Print Center opened in June 2007 with the opening of our new facility in downtown San Jose. During the past five years, the program has grown and changed according to the needs of our printmaking community. The Master Printer develops and administers all aspects of the ICA’s Print Center program including workshops, Open Access Days, and Artists in Residence. About the ICA
The San Jose Institute of Contemporary is a nonprofit contemporary art gallery located in the SoFA arts and entertainment district of downtown San Jose. These encounters occur in the Samek Art Gallery, the Downtown Art Gallery, the Museum Collection Study Room, and across campus in pop-up exhibitions and permanent art installations. Presenting visual art in critical contexts consistent with Bucknell's high academic standards, the Galleries challenge students and extend the intellectual life of campus in an informal lifelong learning environment. The Galleries are academic art labs where experimental art, innovative curatorial practices, and co-curricular programming generate new ways to engage and inspire audiences.

The Galleries seek two qualified Graduate Assistants for the 2012/13 academic year. The small scale of the Gallery staff (3 professional staff) means that both Graduate Assistants will have the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of the Galleries' operations, but each will also have a specific focus.

Curatorial Graduate Assistant
Fall 2012 - Spring 2013 Semesters
Stipend: $10,000

This assistant will work with gallery staff to learn how exhibitions are curated and produced in a professional art gallery/museum environment. Assignments will include researching artists and the exhibition history of artworks, creating exhibition documentation, installing exhibitions, and other tasks that contribute to developing exhibitions. The Curatorial Graduate Assistant will guest-curate the Annual Student Art Exhibition produced in partnership with the Dept. of Art and Art History.

Museum Education Graduate Assistant
Summer 2012 - Fall 2012 -Spring 2013 Semesters
Stipend: $12,000

This assistant will work with gallery staff to learn how galleries and museums educate the public about art in an informal life-long learning environment. The assistant will help with diverse educational strategies from wall text and labels, to leading gallery tours for students and community members, to lectures and other public programs at both the Samek Art Gallery on campus and the Downtown Art Gallery. The Museum Education Graduate Assistant will be instrumental in developing and implementing interpretive programs at the new Downtown Art Gallery.

Graduate Assistants work in the gallery an average of 20 hours/week (except holidays and University recesses.) They will split their time between focused long-term projects outlined above as well as daily tasks in support of the Galleries' programs and operations, including, but not limited to: moving collections objects, preparing for public programs, blogging on the gallery blog, giving short gallery tours to students and staff, matting, framing, packing and installing art.

This is an ideal position for a student with a BA who wants to strengthen their application to graduate school and their work experience at the same time. A student with an MA heading toward a PhD would find similar benefits.

This is a paid one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent upon favorable evaluations. Graduate Assistants are admitted to Bucknell as non-degree seeking graduate students. GRE not required. They have the opportunity to take classes each semester to continue to expand their knowledge and skills. Classes in the department of Art and Art History include printmaking, painting, photography and video, and a range of Art History courses. Assistants are also able to take classes in other disciplines of interest. These Assistantships include tuition for 2 courses/credits per semester. You must be enrolled in those 2 courses per semester and this tuition scholarship is paid by the university. Taking 2 courses per semester is considered full-time and should allow deferral of student loans.

Minimum Qualifications

▪ A Bachelor’s degree in art history (strongly preferred, though BA's in related fields such as studio art, art education, or museum studies will be considered.)
▪ The Graduate Assistants must be dependable, have strong work ethic, and good communication skills.
▪ Must be proficient with social media tools: blogging, Facebook, etc.
▪ Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work on ladders.
▪ Must have a valid drivers license.
▪ Candidates must agree to a background check because they will have access to art collection storage areas.
The student’s undergraduate GPA should be 3.0 or higher. Graduate Assistants are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher at Bucknell as well.

Rhizome seeks an Editorial Fellow from June through September 2012. The Fellow will support the editorial department at Rhizome through research and writing for the website. This position is a unique opportunity for a person with strong dedication to the fields of contemporary art and technology to further develop professional skills.

The Editorial Fellow must be based in New York and must be able to commit to 16 hours of work per week for 3 months, beginning in Summer 2012. This position is unpaid, but academic credit may be arranged. The Editorial Fellow will coordinate and assist in production of Rhizome's website and weekly newsletter Rhizome News. Fellow will support daily publishing and maintenance of the blog, as well as researching and writing editorial essays, reviews, and opinion pieces.

We are seeking a Digital Director for a 12-month appointment in the Gatewood Studio Arts Building who will manage with a faculty advisory group the digital activities in the departments of Art and Interior Architecture (IARc). The Digital Director is expected to be involved in the departments’ educational programs which include management and upkeep of the digital facilities as well as interaction and support for faculty and students. Digital facilities include the digital design studios and classrooms in both departments, the digital photography lab, the art education classroom, IARc Library, conference room, and computer-aided making studio (CAMstudio).

Duties and Responsibilities
The Digital Director will:

manage digital facilities including departmental servers, wired and wireless networking, software, hardware, and supplies
maintain scheduled hours in the digital studios and classrooms to assist students and faculty with application of software and digital techniques and technologies as they relate to classroom instruction
supervise undergraduate and graduate student assistants
possibly teach summer courses, conduct workshops, and assist faculty in their courses when a particular computing expertise is required, e.g., demonstrating website development to a class

Supervision
The Digital Director position will be supervised by the Chair of the Art Department in consultation with the Chair of Interior Architecture. Snapshot
ZERO1 is seeking qualifications from artists and designers to create an innovative solution for the 2012 Biennial wayfinding and signage system. The 2012 Biennial will be a regional-wide event spanning San Jose, San Francisco and the East Bay. The signage and wayfinding system will need to display ZERO1’s brand creatively, and also to be useable/adapted in different sizes, for different locations, while integrating technology, where possible, in order to be interactive.

Objectives
The objective of this project is to create wayfinding signage that is:

We are seeking an artist who has both strong teaching experience and an active exhibition record in digital video and/or 3D imaging, preferably both. Rhizome seeks an Editorial Fellow from January through June 2012. The Fellow will support the editorial department at Rhizome through research, writing, and administration. This position is a unique opportunity for a person with strong dedication to the fields of contemporary art and technology to further engagement and hone professional skills.

The Editorial Fellow must be based in New York and must be able to commit to 16 hours of work per week for 5 months, beginning in Spring 2012. This position is unpaid, but academic credit may be arranged. The Editorial Fellow will coordinate and assist in production of Rhizome's blog and weekly newsletter Rhizome News. Fellow will support daily publishing and maintenance of the blog, as well as researching and writing editorial essays, reviews, and opinion pieces. Many Editorial Fellows go on to work as staff writers for Rhizome.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a high level of familiarity with contemporary art and new media. Education or advanced experience beyond the undergraduate level is preferred. The Assistant Professor in Electronic Media Arts & Design (eMAD), at DU's School of Art and Art History is a Tenure-track position. We are especially interested in candidates whose work is related to network cultures and locative media; we seek an artist who can conceptualize, create and implement technical networks that map and link social and cultural communities. MFA or equivalent at the time of appointment. A minimum of two years teaching experience beyond a Graduate Teaching Assistantship.
