Trulia Local Gives Stats on Amenities, Schools, and Crime

A new feature from Trulia.com called Trulia Local (trulia.com/local) gathers information on large metropolitan areas and the Twin Cities are included. Potential home buyers can search an area they are interested in to see statistics and services available. The "zoom-able" maps show amenities such as restaurants, grocery stores, banks, and gas stations. Schools are ranked from low to high with data from GreatSchools.org. Crime statistics are viewed as "heatmaps" where fewer crime areas are green, moderate are yellow and orange, and high crime is red. Numbers of violent and non-violent crimes can be seen and placing a cursor on a crime "dot" shows the date and nature of the crime.

The Children’s Book Drive will take place February 20 to March 2, 2012. The community is encouraged to bring donations of new and gently used children’s books to Kinderberry Hill, located at 1205 Woodbury Drive, during business hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Read Across America Day is an annual event that encourages adults to take time to read with a child. It is celebrated on the anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2.

Read Indeed was started by Maria Keller, a book-loving 6th grader from Plymouth, MN. Maria wants to make the world a better place—one book at a time. She hopes to collect and distribute 1 million books to needy children by the time she's 18. To date, Maria has distributed over 500,000 books around the world.

“As childhood development professionals, we are passionate about nurturing a love of books at an early age,” said Kathy Sjursen, Executive Director of Kinderberry Hill, Woodbury. “We are thrilled to assist a remarkable young lady like Maria Keller in her quest to spread the joy of reading to more children.”

Homes in foreclosure decline by 130,000 in 2011

More good real estate news! This article talks about how 2011 saw fewer foreclosed homes in comparision to 2010, as well as how foreclosures are selling faster than they are coming on the market. This goes hand in hand with what we are seeing every day with our buyers: a shortage of good inventory and lots of mulitple offer situations when homes are well priced. If you have been thinking about selling the last few years, this might be the most opportune time we have had in a while.
