I have seen the AI web site thing. It is bizarre how there are no hosts out there that do not make AI front-and-center.

You don't have to use the AI at all of them. Some (maybe most?) do let you just upload files instead.

I admit I've been thinking.
The internet has shifted a lot to something I never thought it would be.
When I was first given access to the internet, I was told to guard my identifying information close. No A/S/L, no real names, no addresses. Then the social media platforms hit and people were sharing pictures. Now they are sharing videos near daily of themselves.
It used to be a challenge to find out what all your friends were doing online. Then we got the mini/auto feed and notifications and now there is no thrill nor wonder, it is just another place to check.

I have not stopped being verbose, as you probably noticed. I should probably get to the point.

I still have regrets. One of them is how I responded when I said I never wanted to meet any of you in person in response to a possible Reality's End convention. I was paranoid and trying to be a cool loner. A stag.
I know at least three of your real names. I might have actually seen a job application from one of you (I was digitizing/data entry back then, so by the time I saw it you were either hired or not).

It is thanks to this site that I currently have my career. I would not have started to learn HTML if not for this place. Even so, it feels like every great thing I have accomplished at my job Mintman could have already done easily 10 years ago; at least that is how I imagine it.
Speaking of my career, while have been mostly doing automation, I finally had to work with HTML again, but not just any HTML, I had to test if a snippet from our SaaS would work on an off-SaaS domain.
So I set off to make a new website.
There are so many "AI-build-it-for-you" free places and one of them had the audacity to generate a logo for me. Legally speaking AI generated content has no owner (at least where I live) so people looking to start up a new business and having their logo not be trademarked seems like a terrible legal trouble down the road.
I finally found a place that would let me work in HTML and I have to say, it feels good to be working on a website again. I missed it more than I knew.
No link yet, as it is definitely going to take months to get ready with everything else life wants, but I'll update my signature with the new one when it is ready.

I missed this too. I wonder if the original lot of you are all still living in that localized area or did you move out? Is Rook still a newbie? Is Camo still alive? Did Afiag stay or move? Is Zedd still highly literate or succumbed to brainrot and is skibidi-yeeting 6-7s?

I'll stick to positive updates: My D&D party has rescheduled sessions, but we have not cancelled a single one in three years. This month two of the players are going to have a larger family, but they still want to continue the campaign. I went from MSPaint to GIMP (mind out of the gutter, it is a free adobe-photoshop-esque software) and I am currently using Dungeon Alchemist to make maps because after seeing the underground thieves guild in Baldur's Gate 3, I knew I wanted to make something like that for my players. I've also been slowly learning Blender, but have yet to make my first doughnut.

I'm trying to do creative works still, but it usually ends up with me knocking out programming after programming part, getting distracted and solving some Linux bugs, and then getting distracted and trying to do anything else before having to draw something eventually.

The split is probably 10% sprints of actual work and 90% just staring at a blank page.

Checking again. I haven't been writing fantasy persay, but I am GMing a campaign that has had 18 consecutive sessions, so making maps and notes and prepping for that is pseudo fantasy writing? I figured I'd share because I needed a name for the creatures from another dimension and decided to call them the Rex Ranarum. Luckily none of them frequented this site and none of them know Latin (as they do not look very rex nor ranarum).

It is very different GMing a tabletop campaign than writing in B&W. Don't get me wrong, it is fun to craft a whole world from scratch, but I really worry about player character representation in the story and having enough plot hooks for a person to feel like their character is a part of that world; whereas in B&W I could just let that writer fill in the gaps for their own character.

I know I've posted to this thread in the past,but figured I would give an update and attendance since I had really yet to substantially do that this year.

Glad to see this place is still here. How is everyone else doing in 2025 (or whenever you find this)?

For some reason, the remote server deleted all files of mine with a wacky extension I use to wrap files with a regular extension. Yes, this makes sense.

Also as a point of very good news, I figured out that changing my password allowed me to log into the (S)FTP servers again, so I can actually edit this place once more.
