No matter what island of Hawaii you are traveling to — Maui, the Big Island, Kauai, Lanai, Oahu or Molokai — you are in store for a truly amazing experience. I am sure that you have heard from others who have traveled to the Hawaiian Islands just how wonderful they truly are, and I am sure that you have also gathered a few tidbits of information about what to expect when you arrive at your destination. Of course you have; why else would you book a trip to these amazing islands? As someone who is very well traveled in Maui, as well as all of the islands of Hawaii, I would like to share my two cents on what to expect when you visit these islands. So, keep on reading to find out my take on what you can expect. You can certainly expect a warm and welcoming greeting to the Hawaiian Islands. As soon as your plane touches down, you will be greeted with leis and welcomed with the warm smiles and gestures of the locals. Away from the airport, you will also find that the people at the hotels, at the shops, at the attractions and well, just anywhere you go, will welcome you warmly to the islands. These people really love where they live and want to share their enthusiasm for the beauty of their home with you. This warmth is really quite infectious, too. I find that each time I visit, I instantly become happy and overjoyed. You can also expect to find a really low key way of life. In Hawaii, people really enjoy each day to its fullest. Hawaiian’s recognize that life is not all about work, keeping schedules and running form one place to the other. They realize that if you are busy making other plans that you will miss the joy of the day that is before you. When you arrive here, you will also find that you will take on this attitude yourself. You will feel peaceful and totally in tune. It’s really quite amazing. Lastly, you can expect to find some of the most amazing landscapes that you will ever see. I don’t think that there are any words that can fully express the beauty of the landscapes of each of the Hawaiian Islands. From active volcanoes to lush rainforests, from cascading waterfalls to pristine beaches; everywhere that you turn you will find sheer beauty.

As with any trip, packing for your trip to Maui is something that should be well thought out in order to ensure that you are well prepared for your adventure. The last thing you want to worry about when you arrive in this piece of paradise is whether or not you remember to pack your bathing suit. Use this list as a guide to help you pack appropriately for your trip to Maui and any other Hawaiian Islands that you are planning on visiting. The Beach. You will undoubtedly be spending a great deal of your Hawaiian adventure on the beach — and if not on the beach, then at least at your hotel’s pool. As such, you will want to pack items that will allow you to fully enjoy your time in and around the water. Pack plenty of bathing suits. For this, I suggest packing at least one suit for every two days that you will be there. For example, if you are staying for 8 days, pack four swimming suits. You can rinse out and wash your suits, but you always want to make sure that you have a dry one to put on. You will also want to back cover ups that you can throw over your suit. Another item that will come in handy for the beach (or pool) is swim shoes, as they will protect your feet from the rough surfaces that you will encounter. Clothing. Casual is key, as is lightweight and comfortable. Life on Maui and the other Hawaiian Islands is very laid back, and it is also very warm. For the ladies, flowing skirts and sundresses, shorts and tanks are ideal. For the men, shorts, tanks, tees and a few casual button down tops should be just fine. For the feet, bring sandals and appropriate shoes for hiking. You may also want to bring some lightweight rain gear. Toiletries. Your everyday toiletries are important to pack — a toothbrush, shampoos, soaps, etc. — but so are some other odds and ends. Sunscreen is absolutely vital. The sun is extremely strong here and you will want to protect yourself from it. Believe me, it is no fun trying to enjoy a relaxing vacation with a sunburn. You should also pack some aloe or sunburn relief, should you happen to get too much sun. Etc. Other items to pack include your camera, a guidebook, your passport, maps, hotel confirmations, and anything else that you think you will absolutely need on your trip.

If you are planning a trip to the States, you are going to want to make sure that you are fully prepared in advance to ensure that you have the best time possible. The United States is such a large country and it is comprised of so many different regions that packing a bag with generic items will not properly prepare you for your trip. In order to make sure that you are prepared for your trip, there are some things that you should know before you go. First, you should be knowledgeable about the region which you are traveling to. The climate in the different regions can vary quit significantly. For example, if you are traveling the the Northeastern part of the country during the winter, you are going to experience cold temperatures and snow and if you are traveling to the Southwest during the summer, you will experience hot, arid conditions. In order to be sure that you are packing appropriate clothing and accessories, I highly advise that you research the region that you are traveling to, as the time of year you are visiting and the area that you are traveling to will greatly determine the type of items that you should pack. You should also be aware that the country has several different time zones. What does this mean to you? Well, it means that depending on where you are visiting, you are going to experience quite different times. The east coast of the country is three hours ahead of the west coast of the country. So, if you are traveling from France to the east coast, for instance, the time difference will be 6 hours behind the time you are used to, while if you are visiting the west coast, the time will be 9 hours behind your normal time. You should also be aware that while the common language spoken in the country is English, there are several different dialects and within these different dialects are different terms. For example, in the south, the slang term ‘y’all’ is often used, which means ‘you all,’ or ‘everyone.’ Overall, no matter what region of the country you are visiting, you can be sure that you will be welcomed with open arms. The people that reside in the United States are very open and welcome visitors to their country. They enjoy sharing their culture and showing how proud they are of their country. This knowledge can help ensure that you have an enjoyable experience in the United States.

You may be thinking that Zoo Atlanta is just like any other zoo in the country. However, you probably did not know that is was one of the very first U.S. zoos. Also, it has been opened and kept open the longest out of any other zoo as well. This zoo dates all the way back to 1889 and has continued to operate since it opened. Another thing that separates Zoo Atlanta from all but four other zoos in the country is, they have giant pandas and the most ape specie exhibits. In all, there are well over 200 different animal species at the zoo. So, when you plan a trip here, you can expect to see anywhere from 1,000 or more animals on a single visit. Zoo Atlanta Seven Exhibits There are at least seven main exhibits that contain sub-exhibits at Zoo Atlanta. From when you enter they zoo and starting on your left then go clockwise, you will encounter the Boundless Budgies: A Parakeet Adventure first. Here hundreds of parakeets fly freely and will even eat right out of your hand. Then there is the African Plains. This area is broken into habitats for zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, meerkats and black rhinos. Then you will flow right into the Ford African Rain Forest where the huge gorilla area is. There are areas for monkeys and lemurs too. Next in line is the Asian Forest. Here you will find animals such as orangutans, otters, tigers, clouded leopards, giant pandas, red pandas, and komodo dragons. If seeing a living dragon is not enough reptiles for you, there is the World of Reptiles. In here, you will find alligators and alligator snapping turtles. Also, houses here are vipers, lizards, turtles, tortoises, frogs and more. Then there is a very special and unusual exhibit, the Naked Mole Rats. These little guys will have you laughing with their buckteeth and furless bodies. One of the most fun areas is the Orkin Children’s Zoo. In this area, the kids can pet various animals in the petting zoo and see cute kangaroo. In addition, there are areas for wetland animals like more alligators, a giant tortoise exhibit, an exotic bird exhibit, golden lion tamarins, and cassowaries. Zoo Atlanta’s Eat, Play, Spend There is plenty of places to snack while at her zoo so, you don’t have to worry about packing up a cooler or a picnic. They have at least six different eats and treats vendors to choose from. Also, if you all need a break from the animals, there is a rock climbing area, a carousel, and a train ride. You can’t leave without shopping in their gift shop. They have many this to commemorate you visit to Zoo Atlanta, plus the funds are put into doing research of endangered species.

Waterfalls, Grizzly bears, wolves, forests, and Old Faithful are the first thing people think of when they hear the name Yellowstone National Park. Still considered to be a country’s first ever national park, Yellowstone spans three states: Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. It is actually a federal law dating back to 1872 and President Ulysses S. Grant. Yellowstone has multitudes of visitors and boasts one of the world’s largest camping destinations, with more than 20,000 spots. Travelers come to see the park’s magnificent near pristine beauty. Also, nature enthusiasts are drawn here for a glimpse back in time to see wild buffalo and the other free roaming wildlife. This is true of photographers as well. There is a wealth of photo opts throughout the park, from the buildings to the scenery. Yellowstone National Park’s Geysers One of the things that have put Yellowstone on the map is the famous Old Faithful Geyser. Tourists from as far away as China, India, Japan, Europe and Africa travel there each year just for the sole purpose of witnessing the Old Faithful erupt. It goes off almost every ninety minutes. The cone of water can reach heights of nearly 200 feet in the air and spray out over 8,000 gallons of water. However, you would not want to be standing over it, because the water is at boiling temperatures. Some of the spectacular eruptions have been recorded as lasting up to five minutes. However, Old Faithful is not the only geyser in Yellowstone. There are actually 300 geysers throughout the park, but none are as reliable as Old Faithful in their eruptions or as grand. Yellowstone National Park’s Wildlife The wilds of Yellowstone National Park are a thing of beauty. There have been many books and movies about the park and even several documentaries covering the plight of Yellowstone’s animals and natural geography. At one time bison and wolves were wiped out of the park causing the ecosystem to become out of balance. This threatened the future of the park so slowly both species were reintroduced back into Yellowstone. Today, the park is flourishing and back on track now that its two missing residents are thriving once again. This is one of the few places left on Earth where you can see nature in its natural habitat. There is an amazingly beautiful balance between flora and fauna in the park and the Park Rangers strive to keep it that way by history and nature lectures as well as keep an eye out for poachers.

Yellowstone National Park’s Geysers

One of the things that have put Yellowstone on the map is the famous Old Faithful Geyser.

The X-Fest Music Festival is a traveling festival put on and sponsored by the Clear Channel Communications Corporation to promote their radio stations. The music is always loud and full of rock and roll and heavy metal fans. The festival makes stops in cities all across the United States from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Arizona to California. The first X-Fest was held in the Indianapolis, Indiana area in Noblesville back I 1995. The turnout was so great that Clear Channel decided to do it again the following year and to add a location. Each year a new city was added and the festival become more and more over the top. Today the X-Fest is still going strong. X-Fest Music Festival’s Allure Many thought the X-Fest Music Festival would have lost its appeal a long time ago. However, it has only continued to grow and spread across the country with each passing year. In fact, this rock festival attracts people from all over the U.S. Although you would think city officials would not want such a loud and ruckus event disturbing the peace, this is simply not the case. The cities that host the festival notice that it brings in visitors from outlying areas into their cities. This is great for boosting city revenues during the festival by means of hotel stays, food and drink purchases, and not to mention the revenue from the space leased by Clear Channel for the X-Fest. Therefore, city officials want the festival for the revenue and the people certainly want the festival, but why? Quite simply, the answer is the music. Finding rock music festivals of this caliber is not easy to do. Fans of the music genre can count on the X-Fest to fulfill their heavy metal thirst every year. X-Fest Music Festival – Win-Win for All The X-Fest Music Festival still attracts top rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock bands from around the world. This is another reason for the popularity of the Fest. Fans that cannot travel all over the globe to see their favorites in concert wait every year for the X-Fest to hit its rounds. Many cities will host different bands, so fans can travel from one city to another and get to party to several of their favorites in the same year. With the state of the music industry, the bands actually look forward to the Fest as well. This is because they are not selling CDs like they used to, thanks to online music sharing sites. Also, for bands to make it, they now have to tour. So, all-in-all, the X-Fest Music Festival is a win-win for everyone.

One of the most famous hotels worldwide is the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, New York. The current address for the hotel is not its first. The hotel was originally located where the Empire State building is now. Many people do not realize that the Waldorf Astoria revolutionized hotel hospitality by being the first to have room service. One other interesting tidbit about the hotel is its actual name, Waldorf=Astoria and not Waldorf-Astoria. This hotel is mentioned and actually in many films over the years, for instance Scent of a Woman, Coming to America, South Pacific-2001, and many more. Also, there is a Titanic connection to the hotel as well. This is the place visitors to New York City want to be and come from all over the world just to stay here at the Waldorf Astoria New York. Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Beginnings Waldorf Astoria’s original home was the converted mansion belonging to mogul William Waldorf Astor and opened March 13, 1893. However, it was named The Waldorf Hotel. The Astoria Hotel was opened 1897 by John Jacob Astor IV, William’s cousin just adjacent. Astor died during the infamous Titanic sinking and William passed away seven years later in England. After prohibition caused a decline in business, the old hotel moved to Park Avenue where it opened in 1931 and still stands today. Enthusiasts of Art Deco architecture consider the Waldorf Astoria a shining example and the hotel is an official New York City Landmark. Conrad Hilton or The Hilton Hotel empire, purchased the hotel in 1949. Then in 1972, the Hilton Corporation purchased the Waldorf Astoria and created an entire sub-brand from it. Now, there are Waldorf’s all over, in the Waldorf Astoria Collection which began in 2006. Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Accommodations and Amenities There are more than 20 different guest rooms and suite to choose from at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Each room has a flawless décor that conveys luxury and comfort. Some rooms have seating areas, offices, living rooms, and concierge services. The hotel has 24 hour housekeeping services, as well as Flat panel television, internet, mini bars, Hilton Serenity bed, and newspapers available for each room. The Waldorf Astoria New York luxuries know no bounds. They offer their guest only the best. There is two state-of-the-art fitness facilities, a gift shop, spa, guided tours, the world famous Kenneth Salon, and six dining and lounge options, where you can experience a Waldorf salad where it was born.

The Victoria Mansion is one of Portland, Maine’s most famous attractions, aside from the fresh seafood of course. The Victoria is a peek into Portland’s rich and influential residents and visitors at the decadent lifestyles they led. Inside and out, there was nothing leave undone or out of place. As soon as you step on the mansion’s grounds, you are wisped away to a time of high society and elegance. The gorgeously preserved and restored mansion still has an air of aristocracy about it and more than eight-five percent of the original Gustave Herter décor is still intact. The Victoria Mansion’s Fascinating History Originally called the Morse-Libby House, the Victoria Mansion was merely the summer vacation house for mogul Ruggles Morse. He was a wealthy pre- Civil War luxury hotel tycoon and had the Victoria built in the mid 1850’s to early 1860’s. The famous J.R. Libby family purchased the mansion in 1894 from Morse’s widow. The Libby’s took great care of the lavish mansion and altered very little. They called it home until 1929. After the Libby family moved out of the mansion, disaster struck in the form of a hurricane. The mansion stood lifeless and on the verge of destruction to make way for modern conveniences, such as a gas station, until 1941. This is when siblings William H. and Clara Holmes purchased the mansion to be preserved as part of history. The Holmes siblings gave the mansion its current name of the Victoria Mansion as a tribute to Queen Victoria. The Society of Maine Women of Achievement became the proprietors of the not for profit museum in 1943. Then, in 1970, it became a National Historic Landmark. The Victoria Mansion’s Stunning Architecture None other than Henry Austin, the renowned Architect from New Haven designed the Victoria Mansion for the Mr. Morse. The Victoria is one of Austin’s finest examples of an Italianate style villa. This style was very popular in the 19th century, however, not usually in residential applications. The design of the Victoria was to marry urban and rural living and achieved brilliantly by Austin. You can see the craftsmanship still today. The Victoria Mansion’s Exquisite Décor After the devastating hurricane of 1938, many were surprised to see that most of the mansion’s interior décor spared. The Victoria is the only standing example of the design work of Gustave Herter, the 19th century immigrant designer of the Herter Brothers firm. Between the extravagant style of Gustave and the hospitality experience of Mr. Morse, the mansion became the talk of Portland. They had wall to wall carpet and even hot and cold running water. Also, many surfaces of the mansion are gilded in gold leaf, such as ornate column and entryways. The inside of the mansion is home to decadent furnishings and themed rooms along with yards and yards of expensive drapery. The Victoria Mansion is truly a sight to behold. If you are planning a trip to Portland, be sure to stop by and have a glimpse at how the Donald Trump of his time, Ruggles Morse lived in 19th century luxury.

If you are traveling to the United States from another country, jet lag is sure to be something that you will be plagued with. Even if you are traveling within the country, from one time zone to another, you may find yourself dealing with a bit of jet lag. While it can be difficult to adjust to the difference in time – for example, it may be midnight in your home city, while it is just 6 o’clock in the evening in the city you are visiting – you don’t have to let the difference in time zones control your trip. Instead of falling victim to your body’s natural clock and locking yourself in your hotel room to get some Zzzzz’s (which can cause you to miss out on several days of your trip,) follow these tips for coping with jet lag. The sooner you cope with the jet lag, the sooner you will be able to readjust your clock and the sooner you will be able to enjoy your trip to the United States. DON’T Go Right to Sleep! While it certainly may seem tempting to go right to sleep when you reach your hotel room when you are plagued with jet lag; DON’T! It is best if you stay awake to acclimate to the time difference. If it is normally your bed time in your home city, yet it is day light in the place you are visiting, staying awake will actually help your body adjust to the new time schedule. If you sleep according to your time schedule back at home, you may find that you will never adjust to the new time zone and you will end up missing out on prime activity times. Get Moving. How can you stay awake when your body and mind want to sleep? Get moving! There will be plenty that you will want to see and do, so why not get right out to sightseeing to get your body moving? Moving about will help to keep you awake and get you on your new schedule. Drink Water. Staying hydrated is also another way that you can cope with jet lag. Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine, as they may disrupt your sleep schedule and dehydrate you, which will make you even sleepier. Hot Bath. Soaking in a hot bath will help to soothe your sour muscles from your trip and will help to sooth your mind into a comfortable state to help you get to sleep easier when it’s time for bed.

The post How to Cope with Jet Lag first appeared on Rediscover The Web.

The United States is a country that took several hundreds of years to be settled from coast to coast. The country was established starting on the east coast and continued westward. This journey will explore the U.S. beginning with the state of New York and ending with California, with many stops along the way. New York – Achieved Statehood in 1777 New York is home to one of the most famous cities in the world, New York City. While America was still being established as its own country, immigrants poured in through the port. Later, thousands of immigrants came to the States via Ellis Island. New York City is known for Broadway, Time Square, the Statue of Liberty and more recent the 9/11 Memorial. Travelers for across the globe still fill the streets in order to take a little piece of the Big Apple home with them. Florida – Achieved Statehood in 1845 Florida is home to many historical, educational and entertainment sites. This made them the 27th state. Visitors of all ages come to Florida for a host of reasons. There is NASA for those with star and galaxies in their eyes and Miami Beach for those hoping to have their own star sighting, of the Hollywood Elite that is. Then, there is the world-famous Disney World. Travelers come here to get lost in fantasy and to see their childhood dreams brought to live before their very eyes. Texas – Achieved Statehood in 1845 Texas is one of the most recognizable states on a map due to its unique shape. It has a unique history as well. Texas is the only state to have once been its own country and is still allowed to fly its flag alongside the United States flag at the same height. Some of the most visited places are the Alamo in San Antonio and the old Astro Dome in Houston. California – Achieved Statehood in 1850 The Western Expansion continued by adding states such as Ohio, Missouri, Nevada and of course California. From Redding to Los Angeles and Hollywood to San Diego, the state is always booming with travelers from across the U.S. and the globe. Here, visitors can see real gold mines that harken back to the Gold Rush Era and the Ghost Towns that were left in its wake. Shutter bugs immerse theirselves in California’s natural beauty, like the coastline, mountains, desert areas and lush forests.
