New York, NY:

The Big Apple is a rough-and-tumble introduction to a cross country road trip. And while stereotypes portray New Yorkers as unfriendly, you’ll be hard-pressed to justify it. It’s not that New Yorkers are rude… they’re just efficient.

New Orleans, LA

The Big Easy is perhaps the most interesting city in America. Jazz started here (as did Louis Armstrong), and holds strong to this day. Plus, the food in New Orleans is among the best in the world.

Known as “the city that care forgot” New Orleans offers some of the best food, music and nightlife in the country. Delicious Creole cooking – a combination of French, African and Caribbean flavors – can be found throughout the city.

What to see/do in New Orleans: Most first-timers enjoy The French Quarter for its music, cheap drinks and… um… “people watching”. Swamp tours are available outside of town and are well worth it.

What to avoid in New Orleans: Bourbon Street can be a lot of fun… once. After that, it starts to reek of tourist trap. After you’ve had your fun, head out to the Warehouse District for a more local vibe.

What to eat in New Orleans: Everything! New Orleans offers up delicious Creole dishes – a combination of African, French and Caribbean ingredients – around every corner. You MUST try po-boy sandwiches (usually fried seafood on a bun with coleslaw), gumbo, fresh oysters and muffalettas (Italian meats served on focaccia with an olive salad).

I highly recommend the Acme Oyster House and Tommy’s (upscale and delicious) for some of New Orlean’s best.

Austin, TX

Think you know Texas? Think again. While it is the state capitol, Austin is not your average Texas town. In fact, it’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird” (a credo locals try their best to uphold), but Austin’s real draw is from its other title: The Live Music Capital of the World.

It’s not just a name. Austin has more live music venues per capita than anywhere else in the world. No matter what day it is, you can enjoy dozens of live music acts – ranging from blues, rock, country, jazz, hip hop and spoken word – within just a few short blocks.

What to see/do in Austin: East Sixth Street is the most famous area for live music. The Warehouse District offers several quality watering holes for the thirty-something crowd (check out the Ginger Man’s incredible beer selection), while West Sixth caters to a more laid-back crowd.

What to avoid in Austin: East Sixth Street gets crowded (and rowdy) after midnight. After then, locals move on to the Warehouse District or West Sixth.

What to eat in Austin: Locals swear by breakfast tacos, but – since this is Texas – you should go out for some real Texas BBQ. Kreuz Market in Lockhart (45 minute drive from Austin) offers the best BBQ, while The Salt Lick in Driftwood (30 minute drive ) is definitely the most fun. Live music, delicious food, and you can bring your own beer… what’s not to like about that?!

Even though many men wonder why women are attracted to bad boys, the ladies cannot understand why it is that there’s simply not enough nice guys to go around.

It’s the women who hold the reputation over men for dating bad boys and playing with fire, although men really are equally to blame for dating bitchy girls. Why is it that loads of guys who are dating beautiful, thoughtful and sweet girls continue to cheat and walk all over their girlfriends?

Single people often find it necessary to question the reasons as to why a gorgeous stunning man or woman would be interested in them? “Why would someone like that be interested in me, there must be something wrong she must be a bit crazy.”

Both men and women can be guilty of making determinations too quickly. It’s for this reason that many men and women feel more comfortable dating people who are obviously less than perfect. It makes us feel like we are as equals, neither person is better than the other.

Don’t be too quick to become a skeptic when you meet an awesome person who is interested in a romantic connection.

If you can find a sensible balance between attraction, chemistry and self-worth, you’ll go a very long way in landing the person you truly deserve.

For as long as there have been students, there have been teachers willing to offer them bespoke guidance in the form of private tuition and it’s a topic on which a number of myths and errors have settled themselves. For example, private tuition has long been seen as the province of the wealthy and privileged; something called upon by ambitious parents to give their children a competitive edge in the classroom – regardless of whether those youngsters actually needed such assistance.

Both ideas persist although both of them have little or no fundamental truth about them. Of course, all stereotypes, by definition, have a grain of truth in them somewhere – and there are a number of parents who have, in all sincerity, written to luminaries such as Stephen Hawking to ask whether they would be able to offer their son or daughter personal assistance in the field of maths or physics.

But the vast majority of people who seek private tuition for their children are more humble in both their ambitions and their expectations and are simply ordinary folk who have identified a weakness – or, indeed, a strength – which they believe can be best addressed by the application of that personal, one-on-one approach.

And private tuition does not need to be hugely expensive – and it doesn’t need to go on endlessly, either.

Most children, at some stage, in their academic careers, will hit a rocky patch, a time when things just don’t seem to be gelling in the way they should and this is the point at which parents need to decide whether external help is necessary even if on a purely temporary basis.

If the decision is made to bolster things with private tuition it is best arranged in consultation with the school concerned. Many parents shy away from this because they fear that teachers will be offended and perceive an implied insult to their abilities.

On the contrary, many teachers are only too aware that the size of secondary school classes today means that keeping all their pupils at the same point is a virtual impossibility and, provided the private tuition works with the curriculum and not against it, there shouldn’t be any problem.

Some people use family or friends while others approach agencies which have been specially set up to match students with suitable tutors both in the academic and geographical sense.

The important thing is to identify precisely where the help is required and most firms or individuals offering private tuition will be happy to carry out a personal assessment of the student to decide precisely what is required and how it can best be delivered.

Of course, one cannot pretend that there is no expense involved and parents who decide on the route of private tuition must be prepared to pay the going rate for the assistance they are seeking. However, competent and professional private tuition operatives will not stay any longer than necessary and will be keen to see the student comfortable back into the mainstream as soon as possible.

If you are young and or un-initiated, you may think that marriage is all about love. Certainly popular culture would lead us to believe this: two people fall in love, get married and live happily ever after. The real world really isn’t so simple. Marriage is about love, but be careful that you don’t confuse loving “being in love” with real love.

Love Not Infatuation

One of the big mistakes that most couples make is mistaking mature love for infatuation. Sure, those giddy “I’m in love” feelings are wonderful; but they don’t last. After all is said and done and the thank you notes have been sent, the real world starts to crash in. If you mistake infatuation for love, you can have a real problem.

Real Life, Not A Fairy Tale

When the feelings of infatuation begin to wane, you may discover that you have some conflicts or disagreements with your spouse. You may also discover that you have different tastes and different opinions. To some people, these differences can be a huge threat. Realize that your mate is not a carbon copy of you, but a separate human being.

Life Can Be Routine

Another thing that can really be a drag in relationships is the day to day chores that need to be done to keep the household running. Movies and TV shows rarely show this during their love stories. Little things like this can quickly put a damper on the fires of passion.

Don’t Compare

Resist the urge to compare your relationship with other relationships. I had friends who would rate couples “cuteness” based upon how in love the seemed. Ironically, most of the “cutest” couples that seemed so in love in public ended up getting divorced. Apparently, many couples confuse love with loving the feeling of being in love.

What Can You Do?

Instead of looking to the media to define what love and marriage look like, talk to people who have been married for a while. Ask them what they feel that marriage is all about. Listen and learn from the wisdom that they share. Let’s face it, someone who has been married for 25 years knows a thing or two about marriage.

Last But Not Least

Evaluate your expectations about marriage to see if they really are realistic. Adjust your expectations as necessary to avoid frustration and discontent and share your expectations honestly with your spouse. Once you do these things, you will find that you have learned what marriage is really all about.

What about reconnecting with someone you’ve loved for a long time but haven’t been able to get in touch? These days is easy to search people, especially on the internet. Seeing someone you haven’t seen for a long time might be good if you want to get back your love memories.

With the Sun about to go into Solar Maximum in 2012 and the Earth with a massive hole in it could be cause for alarm. Satellite Broadcasters should take head of this warning!
