As part of this year's London Design Festival, THE BACK ROOM was a celebration of the ‘post-industrial’ era – the resurgence of individuals and small collectives applying their own skills within the urban city to produce, make, manufacture and sell direct.
The workers at Studio Toogood invited visitors to see behind the scenes of their north London canal-side location to experience a modest, back-room setting.

Finding the beauty in the utilitarian and the austere whilst tucking into a new take on a ploughmans, ‘The M25 Luncheon’, served up by food designers Arabeschi di Latte using ingredients gathered from within the M25, washed down with a mug of locally brewed beer.

A DESIGN DESTINATION

Leading design shops, exhibition spaces, museums and institutions on and around London's Brompton Road joined forces in 2007 to become the Brompton Design District. Initiated by South Kensington Estates and local organisations, the Brompton Design District has helped encourage new design in an area renowned for its preeminent retail as well as its historic links with design and education since the founding of the Victoria and Albert Museum and Royal College of Art 150 years ago.

The programme, curated by leading curator Jane Withers, has included temporary installations in vacant buildings, shops and shop windows by Ron, Arad, Martino Gamper among many others; roaming galleries by curators Rachael Barraclough and Libby Sellers; a temporary bar designed and run by RCA students, and an extensive programme of events and exhibitions by emerging designers during the annual London Design Festival.

The collaboration is made up of Brompton's established design shops, showrooms and institutions including B&B Italia, Bisazza, Mint, The Conran Shop, Skandium, the Royal College of Art, Serpentine Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

'Just For Men' at Dehab

Commissioned by Simone Kosremelli to design a series of jewelry under the title 'Just for Men' to launch on father's day. We designed these charming tie clips with slogans and shapes from the nostalgic era that can we used also on jackets and scarves.

Antabli back at the Beirut Souks

Commissioned by Solidere to work along Karim Bekdache Studio to bring the Antabli brand back to the Beirut Souks. Rana Salam Design was over the moon as the brand was all about nostalgia to us. We had to retain the spirit of the brand but we also needed to bring it into the 21st century. The logo was retained with the addition of three stars to give it prestige and glamour. A supporting image and pattern was created to give the brand a new look and feel, reflecting its history. Antabli opens its doors within 2 weeks. Come along and try the best Lemonade in the world!

2012 THE LOST CITY OF ARABESQUE
Past, present, and future are arbitrary time periods. Under the theme of 'The Lost City of Arabesque', Nuqat design conference 2012 attempts to tackle the schism between heritage and crafts and the contemporary creative industries. The border between those realms is less clear and one is effectively derived from the other. Hence, designers and participants will further explore this notion in addition to the relation and impact their work has on defining contemporary arab identity.

Thierry Van Biesen drops by our studio today to show us his 'new look'!
Thierry is a one of a kind super fashion and portrait photographer living between New York and many other wonders of the world. Beirut born. Studied math and sociology. Got bored with facts and figures and bought a camera from an old girlfriend’s brother. Moved to New York to pursue a career in pictures. Learned to see from the likes of Sarah Moon and Arthur Elgort. Found his passion then moved back to Beirut to find his roots. Wishes to infuse the world with optimism and happiness, one visual at a time. Was feeling European so moved to Brussels, then London, then Paris. Inspired by everyone from Nikki de Saint Phalle to Moebius to Guy Bourdin. Seeing the world helped him see the world. Will never stop creating. Now divides time between New York and Paris, stills and moving images and then some. Tireless and fearless boundary pusher, storyteller, and visual linguist. Lives in his own truth and is quite happy there.

I woke up to this news today that put a huge smile on my face, and I'm sure to many faces I know! this collaboration between the Italian label's founder Consuelo Castiglioni and H&M is long overdue and will result in an incredible pattern and print fun collection. Cant's wait, so i'm queuing already!
