I just got into adayar cafe day ordered a cafe frappe & sat down to read. There walked in a beggar girl and gave a look at all the tables. I got my head up from the book to check why the cafe day has become silent. The beggar girl was looking at every table for food. She walked straight to my table , put her hand on the cafe frappe and said she wants it. I was little perplexed. I am quite used to saying NO to beggars. I still dono why? But I asked her to go ahead & drink it. By the time she finished having the drink, the entire crowds eyes were on me. I ordered another drink & was thinking have i become so considerate

Girl who took away my heart in a bus - Travel Story 1

This happened in official travel to #Coimbatore. I was too lazy to get up and by the time I got up, I had only 45mins to go to scheduled meeting. As a guy who prides on punctuality I was hurrying through & fate struck. I was so hungry I did not want to miss out breakfast. So I went to my usual haunt Annapoorna.

As I sat down in a table and looked ahead there was this girl who was looking at me without blinking & the moment I saw she shyly looked away. I know I am contradicting! They too had just settled in. We were stealing glances. Both of us ordered poori and were seeing each other. She had come with her friends.

Half an hour flew and I had not finished my poori nor had she. I was sipping my coffee and asked bearer for the bill when she just left for the door. He replied your friends in the other table paid. I ran to speak to her.

Did not find her outside the hotel, dejectedly when I walked towards the bus stand, she was sitting in the erode bus as dejected as me. If for a moment I had believed that I can commit I would have chased the bus. But walked back carrying her smile and my heart was away in the bus.

Jack Reacher getting thrown out of a town and him getting back them and revealing a world apocalypse plot just did not appeal to me. It just did not seem as racy as usual lee child.

Most of you, if not all of you will go through this campus placement if you study in a college. Getting campus interviews for students is one of the most important aspects that is expected of the colleges in India. The first parameter while choosing college for the student and parent while is how much students are getting placed in particular college.

Traditionally campus recruitment happened only at management campuses with the elite IITs IIMs taking the cake. Later it percolated to the engineering colleges. Working in the fresher’s recruitment for past 3 years has given me an understanding on the hiring process of different companies.

The common question i came across from students is how do corporate hire or what is the corporate hiring process and how do i prepare for it.

All the corporate have their own unique requirement but the overall process seems a 5 step process.

Step 1: From their internal teams and from the projected sales , the corporate decides on the number of fresher’s and laterals they require for next financial year
Step 2: The employer then publish their requirement through various source. The candidate applies for the opportunity
Step 3: Screening of the applicant and call for interview
Step 4: Interview
Step 5: Offer

For the college students the hiring process happens through the college. It is known as Campus Placement.

Another Jack reacher novel. Tough and stubborn reacher doesn like being told that he is not welcome to the town of despair. Me personally would have skipped that town name.

As usual trouble finds reached and with multiple plots within the story doesn seem to work as it should have. But overall , another fast paced story from lee child.

Now with lots of college offering lots of course it is indeed bit difficult to choose the right course. This statement is a myth !

The difference between the dream and reality is in the education choices individuals make while in college, the undergraduate and the post graduate they pursue.

If you do not have any idea of what course to take, please do the following

Try something different, march against the crowd, and find a course that is niche and not many people compete for it.

For Ex: There will be no archaeological graduate in Tamilnadu from this year but there are about 600 position vacant !!

Things to ponder over and consider when choosing a course

#Interest/Passion - The course you choose must match your inner capabilities and your passion. Easily said ! Our interest does vary from our childhood. It depends on the people whom we like or sports we like or cartoon character we love. But by higher secondary level you will generally have your like/wish list

#Aptitude - You may know what you want, but do you know how good you’re at that? This world order is established and functions on comparing individual against individual. You will need necessary aptitude to match the passion

#360* evaluation - Try to know your strengths and weakness from around the people in your life. Take their feedback and evaluate

#Goals/Vision - Where do you want to be in next 3/5/10 years? are you picking the course because others around you are picking that course? Is there life and yours the same? Hell no !

#Financial Situation/Security - Course has to be decided on future financial security rather than on current financial situation. போடா ஆண்டவனே நம்ம பக்கம் !!

· Course has to be either of your interest or that has good career scope

· Choose 5 colleges where your choice of course is available for your cut-off mark

Anna University Counselling Process

Its June 21st 2013 , first day of anna university counselling for Engineering Courses

About 2 lakh , give or take a 20% students will join one of the 520 odd college across tamilnadu. The Engineering has become an natural extension of 12th std ! The counselling is expected to go till July 30th.

Thanks to supreme court order the counselling has began earlier and hope its a smooth and transperent affair.

For the uninitiated , In Tamilnadu students who has to take part and ranked according to their cut-off mark. The cut-off mark is aggregate of the physics & chemistry mark converted to 50 and Mathematics converted to 100 for State board students. Not a lot of permutation and combination huh? Nope you are wrong there will 200-1000 student competing at a single cut-off point. Thats how high is the competition.

The call for the counselling was done well in advance. After receiving the application, counselling call letter that has the date/time details has been send out to applicants. Applicants and parents should now plan to be at the counselling centre well in advance.

On Counselling Day:

1.On the day the applicant will have to attend the session with a DD to the amount of Rs.5000 which will be later reduced from the overall college fees.

2. Applicants will be briefed on the process of the counselling.

3. Once the briefing is done applicants are asked to submit their orginal marksheets for verification.

4. Applicant then is allowed into the couselling computer room accompanied by one person (Parents usually) ! During my couselling people could not believe nobody accompnied me. People really reluctant to let me inside, so please take along a elder with you.

5. Couselling computer has lot of computers and looks more like a database centre than a counselling hall, where you are seated and you are asked your top 3 choice of your college. Well i tried , but really u have to give 3 college name as your choice. If nobody else takes that seat its yours :) Else you will be asked for next 3 choice !

6. Then applicant is chased to Allotment order section where he is given a receipt or paper that has college name of your choice and that you have really paid them Rs.5000. Keep it Safe !!

Chennai - ECR - kanyakumari - Chennai - Bike Trip - Travelogue

I did this bike trip to conquer my fear.

A year and half ago I met with an accident in this road. From then on I was little hesitant to drive in this road. THIS is ECR.

East Coast Road (ECR)

State Highway 49, also known as East Coast Road (ECR) is a two lane highway (Literally) in Tamil Nadu, built along the coast of the Bay of Bengal connecting state capital city Chennai with Cuddalore viaPondicherry. Presently, the East Coast Road has been extended up to Thoothukudi via Chidambaram, Karaikal, Nagore, Nagapattinam, Thiruthuraipoondi, Muthupet, Adirampattinam, Meemisal, Thondi, Ramnadapuram. The total length of the road is 690 km from Chennai to Thoothukudi. Works are on, in the remaining sector between Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari.

On the prodding from my sister, I thought why I don’t just get back to what I love to do. She said, “Demons are self created, break the demons you yourself have created within yourself”
Note – I had not yet seen Ironman3.

Day 1 – May 1^st – Chennai – Rameshwaram (616km)

Laziness: The bane of me. I am supposed to have started by 5am in the morning.

8:45am – Solo Bike trip start.

The bike I chose for this bike trip was R15 Limited Edition given to me by Mr.AshokKumar! I ambled along and crossed kovalam by 10:15am.

How to drive in ECR?

70-80km/hr – Cruise Speed

80-100km/hr – Risk Speed

>100km/hr – Accident speed

Be ready to brake and change clutch often.

ECR was built to be scenic, means it was built for scenic view and not for speed!

- The road has geometric design flaws, innumerable number of curves, chicken, goat, cow, buffalo, donkey, pig & humans will cross the road at anytime without bothering to look at you.

- Signage is irrelevant. There was 80km/hr speed limit and school zone crossing signage next to each other!

- ECR is a playground. Expect kids to be at play

- ECR = Obstacle course road

- ECR has a beautiful smooth tar road , paved with dung

Stopped for few minutes where I had my previous accident and steeled myself, no matter what I won’t go back on my word.

With Jimi Hendrix on loop, I was cruising the scenic highway. By 1pm crossed Cuddalore and had my lunch. I had already finished 6litre of water. Sun was beating me down mercilessly. Reached karaikal and found a nice tamrind tree and slept off for an hour.

Had glimpse of tharangambadi fort, nagore darga and was pushing myself to get to Nagapattinam by 530pm. My nightmare was coming to true. I have to drive in night on the very 1^st day of the trip. I was left with another 225km to Rameshwaram and the night was getting started. I rode hard without stopping till 630 to catch on with as much light as possible.

By policy I don’t drive the time when sunsets and it gets dark. The eyes do adjust immediately to light change and driving those 15-20minutes is a risk. I stopped at athirampattinam , finished off my dinner and I was left with 180km drive. This time it was Ilayaraja, r15 and me. It took me 4 hours to reach Rameshwaram. There seems to be nothing but riding all day. I felt a little hollow. I felt elated after finishing off without getting scathed anywhere. Felt my courage return.

Day 2 – May 2^nd – Rameshwaram-Kanyakumari (306km)

8:45 – Solo bike trip day 2 start.

It started off with me getting trolled on twitter when I posted this “I don't understand why this girl blushed and ran off inside when I just asked why vadai is so big here L #rameshwaram”

A beautiful morning to ride, it had rained yesterday night. Wind on face and a little bit of clearer road I was able to ride hard. My notion that entire Ramnad is dry place was broken. Ramnad till ervadi it was lush green coconut tress lined up along the road. But from ervadi it was open scrub land , with only few panai maram. When I was nearing tuticorin I came across salt panes (Uppalam). I stopped at one such place and requested them if I could few clicks. As it usually happens all the 7 ladies who were working there become thick friends of mine! Out of blue I asked them if I can work along with them. They were very appreciative of that and helped me in to working gear.

The gear had old loose shirt, towel, a head gear to take weight, gunny + plastic to cover the leg. The 1^st work I was assigned was to collect the salt from field and make it into mound on the paathis. 2^nd work was to lift the salt collected in the mound to the storage cellar. It was both neck and back breaking.

After 2 hard hours, they shared their lunch with me. I was moved, really moved to still find people who can love you in such short time. These people are getting Rs.245/head/day for their work.

I crossed thootukudi and took the road to Tiruchendur. It was only then I came to know that ECR is complete only till thootukudi and rest of the road is gonna be a single lane village roads. But from Tiruchedur, the road was very very good even though it was single lane. The traffic was very less. The view was truly scenic. After another hours drive I crossed manapad, this place was completely destroyed by tsunami and is being rebuilt slowly. The road here takes you towards the sea and does a u turn and takes you inland. This cycle is repeated for every hamlet you pass through. I took a wrong turn and I was heading towards Nagercoil. I had a chance to see susendram temple and reached Kanyakumari right in time to see the sunset. Took a quick bath and went to see the Bhakavathi amman temple, Gandhi mandapam and toured around kanyakumari town by walk.

Day 3 – May 3^rd Kanyakumari – Chennai (827km) Via (Tirunelveli-Tenkasi-Puliangudi-Rajapalayam-Peraiyur-Theni-Dindugal-Trichy)

5:15am – Solo biking starts.

After 2 lazy days, woke up early to see the sunrise and decided to take a longish route back to Chennai.

R15 after cruising at 70-90km/hr in the ECR road was able to open up in the NH-45. From the beginning the cruise mode stood at 120km/hr. With no traffic and no human/cow movement I crossed Tirunelveli in a hour and was able to get into village road to Tenkasi by 6:40am. With a lot of tree cover, even though the road was bad I was able to cruise through easily. Reached my native Usilampati by 10 had quick breakfast at relative home and was back on road in an hour. Reached Trichy by 215pm and headed to kannappa hotel that’s on the highway. Ate lunch and rested there till 330pm. I felt the sunburn just after touching Trichy. Even though I felt hot air on previous 2 days, Trichy heat was killer. Reached Dindivanam by 545pm and saw an accident for the 1^st time in 3 days! Left there by 630 and reached Chennai zero point at 830.

Short story on a long day!!!
