004 : MLR

For some MLR is a another weird DJ name made of letters but to others these three letters stand for sheer forward thinking tune selection of such greatness that it’s accessible to both the heads and regulars

Easily one of the busiest men in the contemporary music scene MLR can be heard spinning at the likes of Soundcrash, [Dissident] and on Radio Magnetic, read while writing for sites like The Quietus and Resident Advisor, informed from the online PR dept at Fabric and educated from the likes of Twitter and of course the ever expanding Sonic Router blog. Busy boy!

This mix entitled the ‘ Celebrated Scenester Mix’ has been built for the dance floor, one to stomp your feet and get sweaty to or maybe just do your hair. Either way it’s a fine addition to the New Sound podcast and perfectly carries on where DFRNT left off.

Subscribe, download, stream and share the podcast but be sure to drop in on SonicRouter.blogspot.com for more of the same.

003 : DFRNT

DFRNT is a quickly becoming a fully paid up member of the Scottish dubstep ellite. Expect to see the Edinburgh based producer in the Hall of fame allongside the likes of Kode 9 and Akira Kiteshi.

The New Sound series has taken an early hiatus recently to lineup some serious talent but trust us, it's been worth the wait. Kicking things off again with this supperb mix from DFRNT is putting a huge smile on our faces. Hpttly tipped by the likes of MLR and Rob Booth, the Echodub label owner is set to become a house hold name (in certain circles).

When requesting this mix we asked for something that represents his own music and influences and thats just what we got, all that detroit goodness mixed up with some tech dub / dubstep basslines. A firm favourite in our household.

002 : Harvey McKay

Radio Magnetic's New Sound podcast kicks off another episode with one of the new breed of producers coming from Soma Record's school of hard knocks and quite possibly our favourite for 2009.

Harvey McKay is quickly becoming a recognised name in the UK techno and progressive scenes with his debut single 'Output' already doing the rounds throughout Europe. Harvey produces clean, crisp techno thats stricktly for the dance floor. Look no further than one of 2008's surefire bangers '69' and upcoming pending album 'Machine Makes Noise'.

This mix brings in more of Harvey's deeper side with a bit more groove for the first three quaters but look out for some tougher tracks towards the end in the form of 'Disturb The Bird'.

Keep this lad on your radar.

001 : Kingbastard

To kick things off we’ve got an exclusive live set from Kingbastard. For some of you this will be a new name and for Herb Recordings fans that have heard his work before, this will be a rare wee treat. When we first listened to the new album "Tied Up To Machines" in the the studio we were blown away and new we had to hear more.

Kingbastard aka Chris Weeks creates blippy, choppy, 8 bit, jumping, happy, electronic, synth pop music with a cheeky dark side (you heard that here first). Or at least we think he does. He’s so far been compared to artists such as Thome Yorke, happy bits of Aphex Twin, The Flashbulb and for good measure we’ll throw in Wagon Christ (Luke Vibert) as well a smidgen of Daedelus. Not only is this man a fine producer but he’s also a talented artist producing much of his own album cover material. You check out his latest pieces on sale at kingbastard.co.uk.
