Property Tax Relief Likely After Senate Passes Bill

The Iowa Senate has passed the state’s largest property tax relief bill. After being delayed by almost a week the bill passed yesterday afternoon with a vote of 43-6. The Iowa Bike Festival is this Saturday in Jefferson. Organizer and member of the Cyclists of Greene Chuck Offenburger says the festival celebrates the bicycle and those who ride it. Two main highlights of the celebration is the parade and community members painting a RAGBRAI team bus. The parade will start at 11am on Saturday. Perry Looks Into Applying for Grant Monies for Downtown Facade Improvements

Perry Memorial Day Closures and Changes

Memorial Day this Monday will result in several closings, holiday hours and route adjustments in Perry. All Perry city offices and the water works office will be closed Monday, along with the Perry Public Library. The McCreary Community Building will be open from 1-5pm that afternoon. Deadline To Signup For 4-H Youth Conference Is Tomorrow

The deadline to register for the 4-H State Youth Conference for any Greene County high school student is tomorrow. Greene County Extension Coordinator Michael Cooley says the conference is open to anyone, not just 4-H members. The conference will be on Iowa State University’s campus in Ames from June 25-27. Gardening Expert Coming to Perry Library for a Free Program

The Perry Public Library invites everyone to come hear gardening tips from an Iowa expert next month. Library Director Mary Murphy says the event is part of the adult summer reading program. Jerry Kluver will share gardening tips and trends and help attendees troubleshoot their gardening dilemmas. The Perry HyVee has also donated door prizes and discount coupons for attendees. A Memorial Day Tradition Will Continue In Greene County

A tradition that reaches back several decades is the high school band in Jefferson perform at different Memorial Day services. Greene County High School band director Becky Greiner says the tradition of honoring military service men and women who have passed away has been going on before she came to the program almost 25 years ago.
