The connection used by QWeb's production server has been experiencing some technical difficulties lately, unfortunately resulting in a week of downtime.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Things aren't quite perfect yet but at least everything is back online. Please note that further interruption is expected to occur on Monday, 28th September, but this shouldn't last too long.

QWeb's advertiser network didn't seem to take off very well and generated very little revenue in comparison to the other on-site advertising. The last paid-for advert expired months ago now and it's finally been decided to shut the service down. Those looking to advertise with QWeb should send an Email instead.

Thank you to those who advertised through QWeb's advertising network. At some point in the future maybe a new network will be considered.

QWeb just experienced a slight network hiccup whilst adding some security modules in preparation for the previously mentioned invitation only web hosting tool. As a result, none of the websites hosted here could be accessed for about 10 minutes.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused, everything should be back to normal operation again now.

Over the past couple of days QWeb have been writing a simple tool to allow others, through an invitation only system, to host websites on its server. After the upgrades a few months ago and a recent ISP upgrade, there's plenty of file space, hardware resources, and bandwidth to share among those who deserve it.

This tool isn't public, and invites won't be handed out too often. In fact it's really only in development because of the request of a relative. However, since QWeb is expanding and have better resources, nightly backups, and a faster connection it makes sense to brainstorm a new business opportunity - Web hosting.

There's a lot going on right now, QWeb are developing a rather large MMORPG, are in the process of taking over the development of a pretty huge website, and are still planning to rebuild its advertising network as well as continuing the development of Picture Postbox, but some time in the coming months a web hosting deal may pop up that's just right for you!

As mentioned in the previous update, it's been an exciting week for QWeb. One reason is a collaboration with Interlaunch.

After a day spent updating the production server, reconfiguring current services, installing new services, and generally stressing over errors and tearing out hair - QWeb have collaborated with Interlaunch and taken over the hosting of it's websites, Goal Organiser, Kthdsn, and Strawberry Moonbeam.

As well as hosting these websites, QWeb have also agreed to rebuild Goal Organiser to be faster and friendlier, although the service itself and the overall design will remain as Interlaunch intended. QWeb take no credit for the innovation of this website, but hope to further develop and market the project in the coming months.

Stay tuned!

It's been a while since any updates appeared here in QWeb's blog, but there's a good reason for this! QWeb have been working on a secret project! A game, an MMORPG to be more precise. With so much effort going in to this project there's been little else to blog about.

So, why the big secret? Well initially there was a little trouble getting hold of the domain for this project, so announcing development could have winded up with somebody else purchasing the address first, and that would have caused a great deal of hassle! Then once the domain was settled, so much of the project was already written that really the legal documents needed writing up before the project could go public.

After a while, since the project was already relatively hush, it seemed sensible to keep it a secret until the basic engine was complete and the game was playable enough to draw attention.

So, is it playable now??? Well... No. Development has progressed a great deal and much of the back end is written, many features are already complete or at least functional, but there's not really anything to do in this new world. It's been an exciting week though, and the secret can't be kept any longer. Besides, QWeb can't exactly blog about this weeks excitement without first explaining it's lack of updates now can it?

Enough with the wittering, you're probably wondering what this game is all about. Well, the name is Stone Dip and the address is http://stonedip.com. The game itself was inspired by E-Republik, but takes ideas from many MMORPG's and strategy games including Travian, Mouse Hunt, and Runescape. The world will be huge, player driven, and very expandable. Although QWeb are breaking some of it's accessibility principles and building a project heavy on Javascript requirements, the game requires no downloads, no installation, and like all of QWeb's projects, it's entirely free for everybody! Donations are more than welcome, but unlike most MMORPG games on the market today, there's no limits as a free player!

When the project is more complete I'll blog again, explaining the game in more detail. Until then, check it out for yourself but please don't be disappointed by the lack of playability. Instead, drool over the possibilities!

http://stonedip.com.

Since the last post, Picture Postbox has been given even more attention. The tag system is now finished. Tag clouds have been implemented and will start to appear for certain image listings when the system feels they may be useful. A search engine has also been written.

Now you can search for images via their tags, and optionally their titles, either globally or for a specific member. If you would like to see similar images to the one you're looking at, clicking one of its tags will return search results for all images by that member with the same tag. You can optionally switch to searching through all members images at any time. If there are more than 12 images found, a tag cloud appears showing up to 50 other tags to help you narrow down the results. Click another tag and it will be added to the search query. Simple!

From the directory page you can search through all member submitted images, again using tag clouds to help narrow down the results.

These updates bring the website to a more complete state, leaving just the premium account features to be developed.

Picture Postbox has been given a lot of attention recently. Many bugs have been fixed and lots of work has been done to the database and backend scripts.

A couple of new features have been added too. Administrators can now post directly to the news system, deleting images and albums now also removes any existing news items that reference them, and today the initial implementation of the image tag system has been completed.

Tags will soon be used to generate pseudo image galleries via an on-site search engine and tag clouds will soon appear on various pages for basic intuitive filtering. These tags should also help with search engine rankings, promoting both the website and your artistic talent.

All public websites and services are back up and running now and QWeb is ready to continue working on some of its projects.

Although the old advertiser network is back online, this is somewhat temporary. At some point in the near future this network will be rebuilt. If you're interested in advertising though, please don't hesitate to sign up! All paid for impressions will be carried over when the new network is ready, and you may even receive some extra!

Behind the scenes there's still some work to be done, but priorities are shifting towards more visible changes now. Some code optimisation will be performed today on all websites, and a couple of new features may pop up on Picture Postbox.
