Continuing our series on daily journaling prompts, here is a list of journaling topics for every day for the upcoming month! This gives everyone some new ideas for journaling, and can help take the pressure off to think of something to journal about every day, especially for people doing our Page Per Day Journaling.

Some days are the same each month:

At the beginning of each month we write our goals for the upcoming month. Even if you did this earlier in the year, things change so it’s a good idea to re-set and update your goals each month. We also write what we are looking forward to this month.

Mid-month we see what progress we’ve made. This is a chance to jump-start any goals that have slipped off your radar and regain focus.

At the end of the month we write about good things/ favorite moments for the month, and evaluate our goals progress to see what still needs work in the upcoming weeks.

All the other days have new journaling topics and writing prompts!

This month’s topic is after the quarantine! Most of us have been on some form of lockdown for awhile now. Our lives have changed a lot, and I know we are all looking forward to things getting back to normal. This month we will explore how our lives are different now, what has changed, and what you are looking forward to when things get back to normal.

1: What do you want to do this month? Write your goals for the month, and think about what you need to do to accomplish them. What are you looking forward to this month?

2: Which people did you miss seeing during the quarantine? How did you stay in touch with them?

3: What types of social events or get-togethers are you most looking forward to when they are possible again?

4: Which restaurants did you miss the most?

5: Which foods did you make at home for the first time that you really enjoyed and would like to make again?

6: Which recipes did you try that did not turn out well and you never plan to make them again?

7: Which new movies are you looking forward to seeing when they come out?

8: Which movies did you enjoy watching at home during the past couple of months?

9: Which places did you fantasize about visiting?

10: Which of those places will you actually go to when you are able?

11: What did you enjoy doing most during the lockdown? (Reading more, exercising, relaxing, etc.)

12: What did you like least about the lockdown?

13: Which activities did you miss most? Which are you most looking forward to getting back into?

14: Do you think you will try more new things, in general, when you are able to than you did before?

15: Mid-month review! How are your goals coming along? What can you accomplish in the remainder of this month?

16: How has your view of working changed over the past couple of months?

17: How has your employment situation changed over the past couple of months?

As I’m sure is the case for many people right now, I am completely off my normal schedule. I keep feeling like I’m forgetting something. I have found it helpful to keep a notebook in my pocket at all times to write down everything that comes to mind so I can catch thoughts before I forget them.

Carrying a pocket notebook is especially helpful right now. Even though I normally work from home, my routine is completely off with everyone else at home too. I normally would be sitting at my desk and consulting my planner regularly. Now I’m floating room to room, staying out of the way of my husband (who is on video calls for most of the day), and my kids who are on video calls with their teachers and classmates for virtual school. These days I do most of my work at the kitchen table, but sometimes I move outside. Even while I’m not working I think of things to do later, people I need to check in with, and other random thoughts.

Carrying a pocket notebook helps a lot when I’m feeling particularly scattered. I can grab all those thoughts as they flit through my head. Once they are down on paper, they are easier to work with.

What is helping you feel less scattered and more in control these days?

Notebook shown: my well-worn Clairefontaine pocket notebook

Welcome to this month’s post in our series designed to help you do your Month Reviews!

Monthly reviews help you see what worked well and what didn’t in the past month. This helps you prepare for success in the next month. Doing monthly reviews regularly can help you stay on track with your goals and priorities.

In this monthly review series, each month has a new theme. You can pick the theme you like best and do that every month, or you can do the new theme each month, or pick and choose the elements you like from all the month themes to do your monthly review. Remember, this is all about you! Do what you find most useful.

You can see how to do a basic month review here, and you can see all the month review themes so far here.

At the beginning of this month, this Month’s Theme was to create a new focus for each week. This was to give you the opportunity to explore your interests and break up the month. By creating week-long goals, you were able to accomplish something meaningful in a short amount of time, and explore a variety of interests throughout the month.

How did you do? Look through each week in your planner or notebook and ask yourself:

What was your focus each week?

What did you learn or accomplish each week?

What was your favorite thing about each week’s focus?

How will you continue to explore each of these in the future?

I hope you found things you enjoyed each week and that it helped boost your morale and motivation!

Jeff at The Pen Addict recently reviewed the Clairefontaine Triomphe A5 writing pad. He said:

If you’ve never used Clairefontaine paper before, do yourself a favor and add some to your next stationery order. It’s smooth, delicious paper that handles different types of pens with aplomb.

(He notes that the Triomphe writing pads only come with lined or blank pages. If you want the option of grid or dot grid pages in a writing pad with similar paper, check out Rhodia‘s.)

He praises the quality of the paper and shows the performance of an array of inks and pencils. He also likes the overall construction of the writing pad itself and the ease of tearing off the pages cleanly. He said:

The binding at the top of the pad is an adhesive layer that easily allows you to tear out a single page with little effort. The pages aren’t perforated, so there aren’t any tiny teeth at the top of the page after you tear it out. This makes the paper an ideal candidate for letters and clean notes. I’m also really content with how easy and clean these pages tear out. I’ve never had an issue with the sheet ripping when tearing it out of the adhesive binding.

You can see Jeff’s entire review of the Clairefontaine Triomphe A5 writing pad here.

Anxieties are high right now, and things seem to change on a daily basis (and yet somehow not change at all). I’m finding it helpful to do morning and evening brain dumps.

If you’ve never done a brain dump, or aren’t sure about how to do one, see this how-to. It’s really simple: get a big piece of paper, and write down everything that’s swirling around in your mind. Don’t try to categorize or label anything; that will come later. Right now just get it all out in front of you.

Write down all your tasks, nagging thoughts, things you need to remember, and any plans. When you have it all out in front of you, then you can write your categorized lists, prioritize important tasks, and outline any projects.

Doing a brain dump in the morning helps my mind catch up to my new reality and helps me feel more in control. I can see what I need to do and adjust to my new schedule and routines. Doing another brain dump in the evening lets me clear my mind and relax before bed.

Sometimes my brain dump turns into a worry dump. That is okay. A lot of people are worried about a lot of things right now, and the worries can change frequently. Write down everything you are worried about. After you get it all out, divide the list into things you can control, and things you can’t. Write action steps for the things you can control. This will help you feel more empowered, and an action plan will give you direction.
