Cats and cooking

Nono not cooking our cats :P Just some recent photos of Ginko (grey girl) and Yoshi (tabby boy)

I was inspired to try to prepare home made version of Soto Ayam at home thanks to Moonberry :3 Will put the food shots after the cat photos :P

I suspect Ginko is the alpha kitty in the family ^^;

Ginko for some weird reason likes to sleep on top of her brother ^^;

Yoshi doesn’t seem to care… least when he was deep in slumber :P

Wonder if I was just a bit home sick when I felt inspired by moonberry’s post about making Soto ayam, a little while back, it was Laksa lol! I wasn’t gonna make it from scratch tho! Found this packaged paste during our last grocery shopping :D Product of Singapore even ^^;

So part of the morning was spent preparing these:

Made 2 servings :) the soup is enough for around 4-5 servings tho, will keep the rest in the fridge after it cools down.

1) tofu puffs cut diagonally
2) chicken breast, pulled into strips after cooking in Soto paste and 1000ml of water
3) hard boiled eggs
4) cucumber strips (I’m not a fan of picking bean sprouts lol)
5) coriander (or otherwise known as Chinese parsley)
6) pan fried shallots – into golden brown, be careful not to burn it ^^;

The above is set aside, and the noodles was cooked and strained just before serving, and the soup re-heated :3

Arranged the dry stuff in 2 bowls…

Pour the steaming hot soup over… and itadakimasu!

Husband liked it ^o^ So this is a keeper :P will reduce the noodles for next attempt ^^; The shallots smells very fragrant, reminds me of my mom’s cooking ^^;

Realised I forgot to post a few non-dollfie photos taken at Garry Point Park when I went there with Mira chan :) Really cool effects when the kites covered the setting sun ^o^

It was really brighter than the above photo :3

Early spring blossoms

This year some of the cherryblossom(?) trees are blooming ahead of what we normally experience o_o

Since the blossoms normally only lasts for about 2 weeks after they bloom, we try to take the opportunities to capture them in photos as much as we can! Especially when the weather is clear and beautiful!

This is like the last bit of sunlight before the sunset.

We almost missed it cos I was spending some time to dress my Dollfie :P Blossoms in the shade has a completely different feel compared to blossoms in the sunlight :)

I love cherryblossoms as they reminds me a lot of Japan :)

Husband took some shots as well, I hope he’ll have a chance to post them soon ^^

Meanwhile, he had posted some shots he took on last weekend at Queen Elizabeth Park :D

Valentine’s at VanDusen Garden

Following husband’s foot steps I found some energy tonight to edit some photos for a record of 14 February 2010.

This year’s Luna New year happen to fall on Valentine’s day, we ended up spending some time at VanDusen Botanical Garden, avoiding the Olympic crowds.

We had a few of our wedding photos taken at the entrance of VanDusen Garden, and I recall I had one taken with this pretty plum blossom above :)

Another reason why we went out was that the weather was really mild for winter, plus with the beautiful blue sky beckoning us, how can we waste the golden opportunity?!

Mirai curry

One other thing I really enjoy drawing/painting a lot is food, so when I got a shout from Danny to paint the curry (and Mirai’s arm into place) for Mirai-chan’s curry I of course jumped at the chance to do so!

Are you lucky enough to get a chance to taste Mirai-chan’s curry? It seems that other than bringing this curry to Tokyo CGM night, Danny’s negotiating with Indotei to bring Mirai-chan’s curry to AFA in Singapore! I am so jealous :P!!!

One thing about painting delicious food is that the reference picture often make me feel very hungry ^^;;;;; I had to have an early lunch after I completed the first draft lol! Hope you guys enjoy the image as much as I enjoyed painting it :)

A day out in 2010

The weather was really mild yesterday (and today) o_o, does not feel like winter at all ^^;

We had lunch at Aki Japanese sushi, luckily I had the iphone’s Day pass data plan activated and we didn’t miss the place thanks to that!

Very yummy salmon sushi my friend ordered, it was fresh and delicious, taken in low light with LX3, and adjusted so that the food looks more visible :P

I had tonkatsu lunch set, couldn’t finish the rice tho ^^;

One of my friend ordered this, and we were all surprised that there were 2 huge grilled fish O_O it was a lot of food for a girl, so she couldn’t finish XP Forgot to take a photo of the other lunch set my other friend order cos we were famished, it was itadakimasu very quickly lol

Came across the Coast restaurant husband talked raved about on our way to lunch XD, I thought it looked really cool so I took a quick shot :)

Baking is fun!

I can has cheese cake? Muffin style ^^;

Basically these muffin cupcakes (?) was made with this recipe but I put the batter in cupcake liner instead of a cake pan, and baked until the top is slightly browned.

I think it can stay in the oven a smidge longer ^^; It felt like it baked longer than an hour tho! I had to watch it in case they get burnt ^^;

Next time I think I might try to bake these without water bath and see how it goes, will have to remember to put it in the middle of the oven and watch the timing ^^; Suspect it will also end up dryer in texture.

We bought fresh blueberries about a couple weeks (oops) back and I had intended to make some blueberry sauce to accompany cheese cake, only got around to baking this week ^^;

While cooking up the blueberry sauce, the fragrance of the blueberries reminded of the blueberry tarts which I was really fond of when I was little, often sold around Singaporean bakeries :P Nostalgic neh ^^;

Okay time to cook real food for dinner lol laters!

ETA: after putting in fridge for a bit, the texture of the cake changed to what feels like slightly denser, and a smidge dry but still light.

The blueberry sauce complimented it well ^o^ But it feels like need to eat 2 per person to feel satisfied :P

Definitely gonna revisit this!

Cat nap

I’m probably biased, but I think we have a couple of the funniest kittehs in the world! (…Or at least in Canada :P)

One afternoon, after I ate lunch, I saw this LOL Of course I had to whip out the camera and start shooting…

then the next thing we know… someone’s on the floor, looking a bit confused…

Ginko pretended nothing happened and climbed back ON TOP of Yoshi ^^;

Not sure why cats like to squeeze in small spaces… these 2 like to do it together ^^;

We have a bigger beanie which they sometimes jump around on, but they mostly sleep in this white one.

When you sleep in a small area, you get tangled

If your snuggle buddy is stinky, you can clean him :P

Use snuggle buddy as a shield when it gets too bright…

Sushi

Taken with lumix LX3 sushi, and a rainbow sighting not long after ^^

For the sushi images, I did not do much, just crop and add the url, for rainbow, I couldn’t capture how bright it actually is in person unfortunately, I think my husband may have better luck, he’ll hopefully post some photos later :)

Shared these selection of sushi/maki with husband ^^ These photos reminds me that my husband recently took some really nice macro food shots with his canon + macro lens ^o^

Itadakimasu!

Back in Singapore, I wasn’t really a fan of raw fish sushi, and I wasn’t ever very impressed by the raw stuff served in restaurants back there (maybe I go to the wrong palces?) but when I moved to Canada, I started to appreciate the occasional raw fish ^^!

My stomach is kinda sensitive to raw fish/eggs, and unfortunately if the raw stuff is just slightly stale I have to run to bomb the toilet (LOL), not fun when it happens tho ^^;

Middle sushi is Futomaki ^^
