Xperia X10 – The Dream phone

A dream with ten times of experience and that is X10.

Today I will share a dream where symbian should make this as inspiration towards more innovative performance.
Only one dream with ten times of experience and that is X10.
Sometimes you would dream of your dream phone that were packed of lots of goodies you need. The superb camera, big screen, cool UI, nice looking phone or even your favorite brand embedded on its body. It’s a special phone for me and I would share it to you, on how I fell in love with her.

Let’s start the specs and features sheet of my soon to be my fiancée.

Form Factor: Touchscreen Bar Phone
Chocolate bricks or gold ingot was been since the time of first civilization here on planet earth and who said holding a brick is a cumbersome or clumsy fashion?

Screen: 4.0” Capacitive Screen, 854×480 screen resolution
A shiny screen with a topping of scratch resistant and a crispy resolution is tasty treat for everybody. The X10 is the 2nd phone to have a screen resolution of 854 x 480, Motorola Milestone is the first.
It’s already a big appetizer to have a 4.0 inches of screen, it will be finger-friendly screen for sure, but, being one of a capacitive screen the X10 doesn’t have a multi touch function. But, someday for sure it will be develop easily because it has already the basic requirements and that is the capacitive screen.

Dimensions: 199 x 63 x 13mm, 135g
A sexy phone because of the slim 13mm with a base of just 63mm and a height of 199mm. It’s a relief and comfort in hands and Sony Ericsson made the back of the phone resistant to slipping off your hands. This phone is really a master piece of the company, because we all know that this phone was designed by the company itself and exclusive for X10 only.
Some people would not like it size because they have small hands or they don’t like putting it on the pocket, but, it’s a matter of adjustment time after time.

Processors: Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor
This sounds weird! Where is my PC’s cpu? Oh my, it’s on the Xperia X10. YES! 1Ghz of speed. I’m wishing that my other phones could catch up in the speed of X10. Few phones already attached with this CPU and X10 is so lucky to have his main dish a super VIP treat.
It will handle dozens of applications running simultaneously without a hassle or sweat on my darling.

OS: Android 1.6(Donut)
The X10 will run by Android Operating System 1.6 or Donut. All android phones are capable to upgrade its OS. Just for example we have the latest 2.0 version on Milestone and 2.1 caught on some droid phones, so, in simple concept with added a coffee on Donut we can upgrade it to Éclair or 2.1 (Oh, I said concept sorry donut + coffee = éclair).
Memory: 1GB internal ROM, 256MB RAM, with microSD card slot plus 8GB in the package (upgradable to 16GB/32GB)
All hardware where accompanied by this ROM and RAM. 1GB of storage is so plenty for dozens of applications and 256MB RAM gives a smooth flow while running heavy applications.

One of the main dishes is having an 8.1MP camera loaded on the phone. It can take up to 3264 x 2448 pixel and can capture a video at WVGA(800×480)@fps. The ingredients that make the X10 camera outstanding is the UI, where the company designed and developed it. With a touch focus both on the picture and video mode.

• Mediascape – Access your media files like your music, video and pictures. Browse them easily and enjoy with the cool UI. Play video, listen music and explore pictures are the dedicated function of this media scape. I think the X10 can’t paly VidX/Xvid files temporarily, the phone is still on the developing stage and we hope it will carry a support to play these files.

In the race of mobile phones, surely X10 will have a good fight and a promising win over many competitors in the market. With many people needs supplied by the X10 surely the mass and fans of Sony Ericsson will bite the bait. What they want is what the company made and what the company wants is to have massive Xperia users around the globe.
The official release of the phone in the market is on the first quarter of next year, probably 10th of February the X10 will hit the market. Hopefully the X10 will be a success and will have a straight path towards the business sections. With relatively bad news about SE Satio and X2, I know the company already learned their mistakes.

Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 released !

Opera Mini 5 beta 2

The cute mobile browsers Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 has been updated to Beta release 2 today. Free downloads are availalbe at Opera servers now.

Opera mini 5 beta 2 has improved download manager ,that can pause and resume your downloads. Opera Link is another new feature that synchronize your mobile browser settings with the desktop browser. Speed dial ,Tabbed brwosing are still remaining new features.

I can see few improvements in my Nokia N97 immediately . The landscape mode offers the setting menu with full option ,not like in the previous version.

Antoher key improvement that Nokia N97 users can see is the D-pad usage, now availalbe in Opera Mini 5 Beta 2. You can scroll the web sites using your D- Pad.This version of Opera Mini will not upgrade your previous installation of Opera Mini ,you will get another Opera Mini program in your applications list.

Dear Nokia N97 Team,

Re: The low quality N97’s lens protector that damages the lens.

I thought to write this letter on behalf of millions of Nokia fan all around the world.

I started to use Nokia Mobiles from Nokia 3210 and bought every key models like Nokia 7610 , Nokia N80, N95 8GB , Xpress Music 5800 and now Nokia N97.

Within 3 weeks of use and after taking about 15 photos my Nokia N97 camera got scratched !. Almost my heart broken to see this.Nokia’s mistake in the creation of n97 ,that causes camera protector to damage the lens to ,cannot be taken lightly.

The money and time I spent along with Nokia is extremely high. Since I am a loyal Nokia fan I think that I have the right to take this issue- The N97’s disappointing camera issue.

After about five months of feedbacks and complains made online Nokia now officially accepted it’s mistake in mounting the lens cover that caused inconvenience and damage to the expensive flagship device .

In some instances (it seems to be pretty rare, despite the volume of N97s out there) the lens cover may have been mounted a little bit too close to the lens glass. Where this is the case it’s possible for particles of dust or grit to get stuck under the cover, which in turn could affect the lens.

If you’re an N97 user and you’ve noticed the image quality on your device is affected by this, then this is what you should do:

1. Take a soft cloth and clean the lens.

2. If that doesn’t work, get in touch with your nearest Nokia Care Point where the Nokia Care Point staff can then determine whether or not the lens and or the lens cover mechanism needs replacing under the device warranty.: Nokiaconversations

During this period ,There are several solutions given by nokia users world wide. The most famous one is

“permanent removal of the lens cover of N97″

This is a really a shame for such flagship device.

Search youtube for safe removal of n97 camera lens and you will get hundreds of guides. Why Nokia need all this shame. The video here is explainig how to replace the camera lens cover by our self. Does Nokia expects the user to be very technical personalities to do it all ?.

The price of the Nokia N97 nearly a price of a Laptop and expensive than a decent netbook. Now we are mising the main feature that we suppose to enjoy the quality camera.

If Nokia has a good Business Ethics this is the time to prove it by doing following suggestions :

1)Nokia should immediately take steps to solve the camera lens issue by changing with new mechanism all over the world via Nokia care centers(like dell once compensate their faulty battery with a replacement worldwide ).

2) This process should be done very faster without any denial and arguments Any customers who have original Nokia N97 should be qualify for a lens cover change.Since I am connected with hundreds of n97 users via twitter,facebook and blogs ,what i know about the Nokia cares serivce for the camera cover issue is “extremely slow”

I strongly suggest Nokia to take a prominent action and solve the issue,keep the fans for ever with you Nokia.

This is a very interesting video feedback for Nokia created by a folk at Techseven.net . I do agree with this guy in most of the terms. I spent a big portion of my income in buying Nokia high end devices within the days of release . Now owning the N97 with some pains and some expectations with new firmware 2.0. Still waiting for update for my region to have some better time with N97(code :0586199).

The most anticipated Nokia N97 Firmware 2.0 is released via Nokia Software Updater today for N97 users.

It has all the expected changes and some more new features .

Before you update your N97 :

Be sure to do update with fully charged battery .
Backup your data before updating (PC suite or OVI online)
Always set the message memory (messaging >> settings>>other)as flash memory(not phone memory C: ) so that your emails and messages can be retrieved after firmware update .
The NSU update file size likely too big (140++ MB reported) try with good speed internet connection .
Don’t play with your device during the update.
Please share your findings here as comments

Currently N97 firmware update is available for few N97 variants only. Be patient to get update for your model.Over the Air update is not available now and will take few more days as per Nokia’s official announcement. It will be about 17 MB in size you may have to pay more data usage for OTA update.

Still I am unable to get the V2 firmware for my N97 RM505 variant. I will update the immediate observations as soon as I got it.Random Posts:

A folk over mobileworldinnovation shares a camera test between N97 and the N86. We know that N86 is the current flagship camera phone of Nokia and N97 as their main flagship device.

Conclusion
We know sheet by sheet the N86 advances over N97 in camera features. N86 got 8MP, wide angle lens and a 3rd gen DLED flash while N97 only got a normal DLED flash and a 5MP sensors. N86 was dubbed as Nokia’s current best imaging device and by these shots it only shows that N86 deserves the Flag. N86 spawn N97 in low light condition, delivered a more brighter flash and capture the image the correct lighting.

About N82 and N86, n82 is loaded with Xenon and 5MP and its an older phone now. Xenon is better for low light condition and fast object still image capture and
Xenon delivers more light in a faster way compare to DLED flash.But it’s not all about Flash and MP resolution, good imaging device must be superior also in sensors.

From the official blog of Nokia they compare how N86 is better in low light condition compare to n82. They manages to show the difference between this 2 devices.

It’s been a while when I started my posts talking about and relating N900 to the folks. People just be quiet first, relax and take a deep breathe as I will take you everyday to the world of mobile technology (with fun of course ).

Today you will experience and indulge to the camera lenses and sensors of Nokia’s first to be fired up with Maemo 5 OS and tablet with a little toppings of being a smartphone.It’s big, the 5MP is big enough for people who loves to carry a phone and camera in their pocket. Key Guard -Key fallen N97

I have tried to give some important N97 facts I found and that not much mentioned in other full reviews . This brief review is written after heavy use of Nokia N97 during my journey in Malaysia and continues usage of the device for maps and Internet.

N97 was my dream device from the day it appeared in videos ,but due to lot of reasons I bought Xpress Music 5800 after my Nokia N95 8GB . Last month end (sep-09)I switched to N97 by giving up the xpress music 5800.

My key reasons for choosing Nokia N97 were:

1) I want a QWERTY keyboard for heavy Internet usage
2)I want back my N95 8GB like camera ,the XPress Music 5800 cannot do the good job.
3)Little bit big screen with good proportion and I wanted to explore the new features like digital compass .

Does the Nokia N97 satisfy my expectations ?

Yes ,initially I am impressed and excited with Nokia N97.

Touch screen is very responsive – The nokia N97 gives a definite excitement for a person who used XPM 5800 .I love Nokia N97’s touch screen.

Keyboard is perfect by all means :The layout of the Dpad and other keys have their own means. I am fully satisfied with the Nokia N97 key board layout and shortcuts ,I am using the device minimum 8 hours a day for connectivity.(I am on a trip now)

Web browser and web browsing : in order to get the full web experience in Nokia N97 you must install Opera Mini .The N97’s inbuilt web browser fails to identify some blog layouts and fails to wrap the text in single screen ,but Opera mini Beta 5 does a decent job ,you can read any web site in big font without using the horizontal scrolling feature to move around the screen.

Battery Life : I am online all the time and I use Nokia Messaging ,Face book and Gravity for tweets . I talk calls lesses but minimum 40 mins per day . Batter lasts 8 – 10 hours. for an average user ,it will last for a full day .

Home screen widgets : Home screen is a good idea ,but the widgets are not functioning properly all the time. music player widget plays music directly from the home screen ,you can forward and rewind also ,but you have to open and keep the music player in the background . Face book updates from the home screen is interesting to see but the font size is tooo small .

Weight : it is not heavy and just nice to fit in the pocket ,but it slips from your trouser pocket when you sit ,take extra care to.

The main complaints of N97 from me :

Key Guard : Unlock speed is slow or not responsive ,most of the time you need to unlock two or three times using key guard to start using the device . (software issue , hope v 20 will solve)

Nokia N97 hangs : Even with firmware version 12 Nokia N97 hangs ,if the battery is low + you get a call in standby mode. This can be solved only by resetting your device. I rested 3 times within my initial 14 days with my new device. every time I lost the settings and did all from A to Z.

You should sync your device with ovi or pc suite as you may have to restore the data frequently as you reset the device frequently.

N97 Stylus-less productive : it is said that this small stylus specially designed ,but from my experience it is total waste, the square shape stylus not finger friendly to write on the device. it is used to click on options and start programs ,but that can be done perfectly by the fingers . There is no room in N97 to keep this heavy stylus and you have to hang it always ,it become a disturbance to carry the device and keep in carry cases . You dont need a stylus to use N97 .

Build quality : battery cover easily gets scratch marks .Use a carry case to protect your Nokia N97.

N97 Camera Lens Scratch Problem : It is reported online from the month of release itself ,I was told that few devices only had the manufacture fault but I also experienced the same problem in the device I purchased after 4 months from release. my camera lens is scratched now in two areas , I will go to Nokia care sooner. There are so many ways to resolve this problem by our self .This video from nokiausers.net explains how easy ,changing the lens (if we lucky enough to buy one in our country ) Some folks removed the lens cover and living a happy life with Nokia N97.You can see plenty of such videos in youtube.

N97 Overall : N97 is a good device for best connectivity and multimedia ,the current firmware V12 should be updated to resolve some issues .(hope Nokia will release the V20 sooner this month-OCT 09)Random Posts:

Today the famous Twitter Mobile App Gravity released an alpha version 1.24 build 6074 ,with Google reader support.

Now you can add your Google reader feeds and view from your mobile. Gravity already supports Facebook feeds and Google reader is the new add on to it.

How RSS feeds shown on Gravity

The latest update for the feeds you subscribe shown in the News Reader Tap of the Gravity Home screen. Single click will open all feed updates and one more click on particular news will bring the options set ,another click on “Read” will bring you the full news on your mobile without opening the browser .Really fantastic .

Since it is a Alpha version ,stability is not guaranteed ,I get some negative feedbacks from my twitter friends. This is my second hour of using Gravity with Google reader ,so far ,it is good.

Gravity is the only mobile software that I dont worry for paying. It has a great interface and more user friendly functions .After installing Gravity ,I do more tweets and more face book updates.

I had the privilege of getting a hands-on with a Nokia N97 running v20.0.005 firmware yesterday evening so that I could provide our faithful readers a preview of what to expect when the update is released any day now and to answer more than a few questions that you’ve sent into me over the course of the last week.
