I highly recommend the Encountering Jesus Series by Mike Bickle. These are some of the most supernatural faith-building stories that I have had the privilege to hear. Mike is a devout follower of the Scripture, yet deeply knows that supernatural experiences are supposed to be the norm for the Christian believer. If you love the Word of God and seek to have your faith built up to expect what the Bible shows to be the norm for the church...the supernatural, then enjoy this series. I have heard it several times, and it is always insightful and encouraging. It builds up my excitement and hunger for the word, prayer and positions me to expect more from my relationship with Jesus.

A Charismatic Theological Aesthetic

I'm working on developing a Charismatic Theological Aesthetic. What is that? Sometimes Pentecostal/Charismatics are stereotyped as those who are blindly emotional in their beliefs, or those who base all on experience and not on clear study of Biblical principles. Theological Aesthetics are the study of beauty and art from a Christian and Biblical viewpoint. If one wants to understand the discussion about this topic, one must go back throughout history to the early church, no, even further back to Hebrew culture and follow the discussion about how God's people relate to the arts and consider what beauty is.

Many great discussions and writing have occured over history on this topic, some for, some against art in church and worship, but because Pentecostal and Charismatic theology is so new, 1900's, there has not been much time to develop this theme, and I think it is time.

What makes a charismatic theological aesthetics different from previous discussions about the issue of Christianity and the Arts? There is a particular interest and emphasis on the fact that the Holy Spirit lives inside believers powerfully and seeks to express glory to God and will use supernatural manifestations to get the witness out. The discussion has to do with creatives, musicians, dancers, singers, visual artists, poets, actors, ect., desiring to be filled with the creativity of God and supernatural expression of God. These creatives then, with the enabling of the Spirit's power, seek to give worship to God through the arts as well as release prophetic declaration and expression to the community. This will take skill in whatever artform, as well as submission, humility, hunger and faith.

The Charismatic theological aesthetic will encorporate much of what has been said before on these issues but will also include a strong emphasis on the power of God miraculously working through the artists as prophetic messengers. I am not alone in feeling that the Holy Spirit is emphasising the arts in this season. Below is Kelly Korsman painting and worshiping. This is a new era with much wilderness to explore. There is no limit to our infinite God's creativity and mystery.

The Trinity Institute is Down the Street

I was amazed to discover that not seven miles from me is The Trinity Institute that holds The Trinity Arts Conference. These conferences have been held in Tehuacana, Fort Worth and Dallas. This year I hear it will be back in Tehuacana. The Institute is housed on the grounds of the old Trinity College, a great historic building. The director is Dr. Parker who is a professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He works in the Worldveiw and Cultures section of the Theology department. SBTS offers one of the few Ph.D degrees in Christianity and the Arts in America. I definitely want to spend more time visiting with him.

Revive the Dead Heart of Africa

The nation of Chad has been called "the dead heart of Africa" because of it's poverty and central location. I feel God saying he will cause that heart to revive in passion and begin to pump out worship to Yeshua in a powerful way that will fill the continent of Africa. Africa will send out worshiping missionaries to the four corners of the earth and lead the prayer and worship movements.

We are in the process of establishing 24/7 creative worship in Mexia, TX. We have a downtown historic building that has been filled with student artwork. On Saturday nights 7-11ish, we open for creative worship including drawing, journaling, prophetic prayer and worship. Most of the musicians and singers are high school students. It is awesome to see and hear praise arise as incense up to the father's throne. He is worthy. To learn more about the coffeehouse visit us on our Facebook page. On January 1st 2012, we returned home from the Onething Conference in Kansas City, MO. It was put on by the International House of Prayer. The Lou Engle's message on Saturday evening was so intense that the gravity of it made want to weep as the new year approached. I'm reading his book A Moment to Confront. The prophetic significance of this book is profound. He is calling Nazarite believers to fast for 390 days to represent the 390 years since the pilgrims first Thanksgiving. He is drawing parallels between this 390 day fast and Ezekiel's 390 day fast that represented the 390 years of Israel's sin. To watch the archives of the Onething Conference, click here.

I am reading Lou Engle's new book, A Moment to Confront, that he co-authors with Sam Cerny. It is so intense. The last chapter contains intense prophetic dreams and encounters. The basic message is that the American church must enter into intense purification. Due to prophetic events and dreams, Lou is calling for a 390 day fast that began Jan. 1, 2012. Lou declares that America will see a huge economic shaking from 2012 onward while calling for America to repent of 50 million aborted babies and other sins. This book is sobering.

Reflections on the Response Event in Houston TX, Etc.

The day has come and gone by. I am so glad that my whole family and members from our congregation attended the Joel 2 Solemn Assembly called by Rick Perry in Houston. I loved seeing the body of Christ cross racial barriers, age barriers, denominational barriers in order to repent and worship Jesus. I pray that the unity in Jesus will continue to grow as we repent and worship him. I once heard someone say, "The truth is not a teaching but a person."

Some well known people took the stage as well as many whom I did not know. They included Dr. James Dobson, Tony Evans, John Hagee, Rick Perry, Sam Brownback, and Vicki Bright. It was interesting to see John Hagee speaking with the IHOP worship team behind him, including Mike Bickle and Misty Edwards.

I hope these events are called all over America and over the nations of the earth. Like I said before, it was so amazing to see the body of Christ come together.

A side note about unity, I am appalled that we glory in our denominational names when it is blatantly against Scripture in 1 Corinthians chapters 1 and 3. Even Jesus declares that a house divided will not stand. We must repent of our pride and love each other in the body of Christ. If we don't, Paul says that we are immature and not spiritual people at all. (1 Cor 3:1-4)

The Response was a Solemn Assembly gathering based on Joel chapter 2. This book of the Bible declared that in times of trouble, a nation must assemble to pray and fast in order to return to the Lord and avert judgement. I believe that the world is entering a time of shaking: economic, wars, disease, famine, natural disaster. They will continue to increase. We must find ourselves "under the shadow of his wings" as in Psalm 91.

One reason I believe that we are headed to some dark times (as well as glorious times) is the prophetic history of the International House of Prayer. Please listen to the prophetic history of IHOP called Encountering Jesus. In it, there are specific words that help explain where much of the church is headed. It is to be considered and prayed about.

Mike Bickle, director of IHOP, has come under scrutiny because of his involvement in The Response, but the stories recorded in the Encountering Jesus series simply amaze me.

What do I think about Rick Perry's role in the event? Good for him to get involved and pray. Do I trust him? Not yet. Do I think he was sincere in prayer? Yeah, probably. Why do I have a hard time trusting him? I heard that he had attended a Bilderberg meeting. If you do not know what Bilderberg is, teach yourself on Youtube and Google.

UNTIL A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WILL OPENLY TALK ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN BILDERBERG, AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE FEDERAL RESERVE IN THIS COUNTRY, I FIND IT HARD TO TRUST THEM.

That is why I respect Ron Paul. He may not want to abolish abortion at a national level, but he wants to shrink the national government's power and get us out of the path to global NWO government, and he wants the power to return to the people and the states. If the people and the states had the power, they would vote to get rid of abortion themselves.

The Prophetic Journey of those Who Obey God’s Voice: Facing the Crosses on Our Journey

A revelation about the cross hit me today as I spoke to my friend Paul H. on the phone. The revelation outlines the prophetic process by which true followers of the voice of God develop. Paul told me about the great disappointment he felt when his church plant effort failed, and how he questioned God. He was in this slump for a few weeks until he got his guitar out and worshiped and prayed for a breakthrough. He got the breakthrough words of encouragement and a few days later circumstances began to turn around when he was offered a ministry opportunity in the same city and given a home to run it in.

The revelation came as I spoke to him about his intense prayer time being a type of Gethsemane experience.

Every follower of Christ who truly hears his voice and obeys will come to certain crisis moments when everything goes wrong. This is normal. This is actually part of the cross. I hope this message will give you hope to see the resurrection on the other side of each crisis.

The follower of Christ’s voice will walk in these steps.

1. Pressing in to know God and hear his voice by the Holy Spirit.

2. God advances his kingdom by asking you to do something impossible and uncomfortable.

3. With faith the believer advances and jumps in to the journey...what faithfulness and giving.

4. Things appear to go wrong. Friends leave, people get upset with you, you are ridiculed and mocked and questioned, perhaps lied about.

At this point is where people get lost. Most will retreat in shame and confusion. Did I really hear God? Did I do something wrong? Is God mad at me? Do I really believe any of what I’ve been saying? These questions and others like them grip us and if we don’t follow the pattern of Jesus, we can retreat and hide and stop the journey of Glory.

The right response to a crisis moment is the example given by Jesus. Go to Gethsemane. What I mean is grab your closest friends and press into prayer like nobodies business. If your friends fail you then do it alone. Pray the mess out of it. Jesus prayed until he sweat blood. You must pray intensely into the crisis moment. You will more than likely want to get out of the crisis but you are to say “not my will but yours be done.” God will strengthen you to walk forward. The crisis hurts, sometimes extremely bad. But keep believing because the resurrection will come if you go through with it even in the pain and loneliness.

So the fifth step is:

5. Pray intensely with friends or alone.

6. Follow through with God’s directives and wait even when it hurts and appears to fail.

7. Wait for your resurrection with greater glory.

These seven steps are to happen to believers several times in their journey in life. We must expect this pattern, recognize it and have hope that we will see the resurrection on the other side of the pain.

Joseph is a picture of this journey and also of Jesus. He was faithful and each time he was thrown down was a cross/crisis moment. He stayed faithful and received the resurrected glory afterwards each time. Finally, he left the dungeon and ruled Egypt. This is a picture of Christ leaving the grave and ruling the world systems (Egypt). This is the pattern.

Learn to love it and expect it. Face each crisis with anticipation of glory after the death and pain.

Take comfort in these facts:

1. God will reward your faithfulness.
2. There is a reason for the pain.
3. The glory will eclipse the agony.
4. This season of pain will end and you will come out in glory afterwards probably with scars.

When things go wrong, its normal. It has meaning. You are conflicting with the world system. If you go forward and allow yourself to “die”, you will accomplish the work, the father will “resurrect” you and the kingdom of God will grow. If we fear, stop, doubt and hide, it doesn’t. God will reward those who are faithful and go forward in their crisis moments. These are the crosses that you carry. Carry them with pride and you will see the glory after each one.

African Americans in the Prayer Movement

I heard Lou Engle say at the Elijah Revolution Conference in Houston that part of the purpose of The Call Detroit was to impact and gather the black community into their prophetic destiny in the worship and prayer movement. Here is a video from IHOP-KC describing what they have felt God say about African Americans and Africans for such a time as this. If this is the case, we must mobilize prayer for this purpose. Please pray for our African American brothers to rise in the power of the Spirit above all that hinders them.

There has been a lot of hatred of Lou Engle for standing for traditional definitions of marriage and the ending of abortion as well as his involvement in The Response. I love to hear him speak. Engaging and Wrestling in Intercession and Worship

God is raising up a worship movement in the earth today based on night and day prayer and fasting. These groups of people are arising around the earth in metropolitan areas as well as tribal areas. No continent is left out, except perhaps Antarctica. Here is a video that introduces this movement called Awaken the Watchmen:

I wanted to encourage believers to pray, fast, and worship. Not for the sake of earning brownie points before God but because it transforms us and gives us revelation of what God is like and what his will is. I recommend meditating on the word of God, reading it, speaking it back to him, praying in tongues over it while you sing, play a musical instrument or dance.

Using music, singing, and dance in worship and meditation upon the word allows the word of God to penetrate our being at a deeper level.

Not all would agree upon what I am about to say, but I want to propose that most of the western world already worships using music, dance, and song. They do so not from a clear religious stance, yet they do allow the message of the spirit of this age to saturate their being. What I mean is that even though many are not religious, whenever multitudes attend concerts, nightclubs, raves, sing along with their iPods, they are allowing the message and attitudes of the world (secular humanism) to saturate their perceptions.

Brainwashing

Our views are bent by this music, singing, dancing culture whether it is religious or not. The music bends our perceptions and emotions to go along with the songs. The Bible tells us to renew our minds by the washing of the word, but this sounds creepily like brainwashing. I think that whenever someone is bending your perceptions to theirs, it is like brainwashing. If your perceptions are twisted away from the word of God and love for God, then you have been brainwashed or rather brain-polluted. In worship and intercession, we can align ourselves with the word of God and be brain-washed to align with the word of God. I know that last sentence can be misquoted out of context. I'm just saying that some of us could use a good ol' brain wash because of all the garbage we have been made to believe. Let long hours of worship, singing, dancing, and prayer meditating on the word of God, dialoging with God about his word, renew your mind.

So many things want the attention of your mind. Musicians want you to spend the .99 on their song, the TV wants you to watch that program for ratings, the video game industry wants you to buy their new game, and if they can hook you, that means big money for them. Give your attention and affection to God. Unplug and be like John the Baptist who got rid of distractions to focus on encountering the reality of a transcendent God.

Put on some worship music, listen to the free live prayer room, get out your djembe or other drum, play the piano or guitar, dance in your room or at church do this while you talk to God about your life and God's words in Scripture. Let is change you. He will also begin to speak to you. Yes, speak to you. Jesus said his sheep know his voice.

(Tangent about hearing God's voice) Most have been hearing God's voice and not recognized it almost like young Samuel didn't know it was God speakin to him at first. If you want to grow in recognizing God's voice, I recommend the book, You May All Prophesy by Steve Thompson from Morningstar Ministries in Fort Mills, SC. It is short, profoundly deep, but amazingly simple to read.

Engage and wrestle in prayer and worship because it changes you, and God will respond to your cry. The answers usually don't come the way we expect or in the timing we expect but God is wise and to be trusted in his administration of things.

I recommend Misty Edward's talk on prophetic musicians that she gave at the Fascinate Conference at IHOP-KC in July 2011. She describes how God is raising up musicians for this worship movement around the globe. The world is raising up a worship movement and so is God. It's an exciting time when the wheat and the tares are maturing. May God be merciful and gentle in his dealings with the world that he loves. I know his wisdom is beyound understanding and he will do whatever it takes to get the most people in love with him at the deepest level without violating anyones free will. He is wisdom itself. May he give us revelation of his love so that we will not be offended in the persecution and shaking of the earth. He is the bridegroom lover of our souls seeking the affection of his bride.

Rick Perry Calls "The Response" a Joel 2 Gathering

Rick Perry has called Christians around America to gather at Reliant Stadium in Houston for a day of prayer and fasting on August 6, 2011. He states that this is a Joel 2-type gathering. The book of Joel in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament is only three chapters long, so read it. The main theme of the book and of this Response event is that in times of crisis and judgment from God, his people must gather to pray, fast, repent and humble themselves.

I know this will look foolish to non-believers, a waste of time and money, but I can not emphasize how important it is for believers to gather during this time and humble themselves before the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, the God of the Bible in Jesus name. There is no other salvation and his word is truth. Rick Perry along with believers around the land should not let their reputations keep them from this event. We could all use some of this humbling. We cannot humble ourselves before God and seek to look good in front of people at the same time. If we fear the response of people more than the response of God, there is something wrong.

I know this is not PC, but I believe America and the rest of the world is in a time of shaking that will continue to get progressively worse. It is time to gather, covenant to God and to each other, to repent of our attitudes and sins. If we do, God promises to pour out his Spirit on his people. (Joel 2:28) In this season of shaking, find yourselves under the shadow of his wings. (Psalm 91) Gather, repent, humble yourself into his hands.

This is the beginning of these stadium Joel 2 events, they will spread around the country and earth. I understand there will be criticism and eventually persecution, but when one catches a vision of God's glory, it is worth it all.

The Bible as Inspiration for Freedom

I've been thinking about how the Bible shows up examples of a free monotheistic people surviving under totalitarian empires. It gives us clues about how to survive assimilation, brainwashing, servitude, and still maintain the freedom of your individual voice and choice.

The Bible records these people living under the empires of Babylon, Egypt, New Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome and still maintaining individual liberty.

I think that is why the Bible is hated in Communist totalitarian countries and was kept from common people under the rule of the totalitarian Catholic Church. The Bible empowers individuals and communities to know they are a free people from a divine source that answer to a power higher that the state. Caesars, Pharaohs, and totalitarian powers of any kind are threatened by people who take to heart this message. Sadly, many people who say they are Christians in America don't actually read the Bible.

The Bible does not include the story of living under Nazi rule although it probably would have if it was not a closed document.

The Bible does record a future time when all Jews and Christian will live under the Global Empire and will face the same-ol'-scenario of pressure to bend and submit to the ultimate power of the state. Totalitarian systems and Satanic powers that thrive within them hate for people to be free to call on and have faith in something bigger than them.

The Bible feeds people with a sense of divine right to life and freedom. It equips them with strategies to keep their mind free from brainwashing propaganda, and gives us previous examples of how to maneuver within an empire of this kind.

Read it people. We are losing our individual freedoms to a globalist conglomeration of nations and corporations. Government is not the source of your freedom but its biggest threat. Wake up!

Busy Updates

I am so busy with teaching art/photography in High School, taking two graduate courses in theology and research writing, working with the youth at church, and having three children of my own. It's a little mind boggling. I'm excited that we are going to take as many as we can to Onething in Kansas City Dec. 28-31. Also, it's great to be writing a 15 page paper on the role of the fine arts in the church.

Not only is the paper arguing for more of the fine arts in the church, but also arguing for a charismatic view of the arts in the church. Just as preaching can be purely educational/indoctrinational and prophetic transformational, so too the arts can be seen as an illustration or a prophetic act of power. I haven't heard anyone preach on this ever before, so I feel blessed to write about it.

I don't know what these guys were doing, but I want that. In the book of 1 Samuel, there are two mentions of this group of prophets that are never named. Whatever they are doing astounds me and whatever it is, I want it to happen around me and all over the world. Check this out, for those of you who like reading Scripture, and all of you should, I've included the two stories down below, but for now here's the summary:

First, when Saul was about to be made a king, Samuel the prophet predicts what will happen later that day and it does. That's not even the cool part. Saul is told he will meet a group of prophets...they will be jamming and prophesying and singing and I assume dancing and having an amazing time. Then SMACK!, God's Spirit will jump all over Saul and he will be changed into a new person. Just what are these prophetic people doing, that God's Spirit can transform a man who happens to walk into their midst?

The second story has Saul seeking to kill David. David hides with this group of prophets again and no matter what Saul does, he and his men keep getting SMACKED by the Holy Spirit...and they end up prophesying instead of getting David. WHAT WERE THOSE GUYS DOING? I want that! Let it happen again but all over the earth.

⁵ "After that you will go to Gibeah of God, where there is a Philistine outpost. As you approach the town, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place with lyres, tambourines, flutes and harps being played before them, and they will be prophesying. ⁶ The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. ⁷ Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.

1 Samuel 19

¹⁸ When David had fled and made his escape, he went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went to Naioth and stayed there. ¹⁹ Word came to Saul: "David is in Naioth at Ramah"; ²⁰ so he sent men to capture him. But when they saw a group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came upon Saul's men and they also prophesied. ²¹ Saul was told about it, and he sent more men, and they prophesied too. Saul sent men a third time, and they also prophesied. ²² Finally, he himself left for Ramah and went to the great cistern at Secu. And he asked, "Where are Samuel and David?"
"Over in Naioth at Ramah," they said.
