When you’re writing your book, it’s important to give the reader a compelling reason to come to your website. Saying “visit my website for more information” with a link just won’t cut it. Everyone’s too busy to visit without a goal.

The idea of offering book bonuses sounds easy enough, but you may be wondering how to make great gifts that readers will CRAVE… without making you drop everything for a month to create.

The bonus needs to have a high perceived value. It can’t just be a chapter of an upcoming book. Ho-hum!

It shouldn’t be something that takes you long to create. You have a busy schedule, after all!

And it needn’t be something that takes the reader a long time to read or act upon.

If that sounds like a tall order, it’s not. You can easily create 1 or more of these useful tools in just a few minutes.

Here are 4 EFFORTLESS ways to create a valuable bonus that your reader will truly crave. Even a novelist can use these strategies to give people a reason to opt in for your bonus.

Easy Bonus #1: Create a Checklist

The checklist could be a list of steps, a calendar, or a list of items.

If your book lays out steps to complete, the bonus could be a simple list of each step. Add a little more value by adding a line where the reader can check when they’ve completed each one.

It might be a checklist of the things to do, buy or remember. If your book guides the reader through craft projects, for example, provide supply lists needed for each so the reader can acquire all the tools and supplies at once.

If your book mentions particular foods, landmarks, collectibles, or the like, provide a listing of all the mentioned items or places.

Since you as the author are obviously well-versed in your subject, putting together a good checklist will only take a few minutes, yet it is extremely valuable to your readers.

Easy Bonus #2: Create a Template, Pattern or Recipe

Having a trail of breadcrumbs to follow makes any task easier, doesn’t it?

Consider what kind of template or pattern you might offer with your book. If your book mentions foods, provide the recipes. If your heroine is a decorator, offer a template she uses for her signature style of window dressing. If your book is about woodworking, provide the plans for a simple cabinet.

Again, this type of bonus is hugely valuable to the reader while taking you very little time to create.

Authors often dismiss providing a resource list as being of little value, arguing that those assets are available all over the internet.

Anything that is better explained in a tutorial video or demo is perfect for this type of bonus. Let the reader watch you make the recipe, use the tool or do the project.

Never assume that your reader knows all the shortcuts and insider tips for doing what is effortless for you.

Here is a perfect example: Many people have a Gmail account, but most don’t know about things like automatically filtering incoming messages into folders, blocking addresses, or setting up an email signature.

You become the hero for showing your reader how to use a new tool or make the most of something she already has but doesn’t use to the fullest.

While I was out walking last night, I saw how much brighter the stars are when I am not near the lamp post with its artificial light.

The lights of human culture blot out natural light from the stars. Yet I feel that I see much more clearly in the light of Creation than the light of humanity.

Major magnetic storms are throwing fire balls around. The Northern Lights are especially  spectacular.

To me, I can only imagine how awesome it would be to see the whole night sky fill with color. Nature is a miracle prayer in motion!

I have never seen the Northern Lights.

The most spectacular view of nature that is still a living miracle prayer to me I have had is looking up at the stars near the Grand Canyon at 3 AM. I was there watching for the meteor shower. The stars took my breath away and still I remember how magnificently close they felt.

I took that trip 25 years ago…so you can tell it stuck with me.

Wherever you are in that continuum is where you are at this moment. Situations change the moment perception changes.

How do you increase feelings of well-being to bring about MORE well-being?

Here are some simple steps you can take to enhance your feeling that all is RIGHT and well with the world.

Gratitude:

Feelings and demonstrations of gratitude switch on well being like nohting else. Say thank you for every kind word or deed.

Write a thank you note each day. As your gratitude increases, you cannot help but feel that all is well.

When someone complements you, simply say “thank y ou so much,” and do not deflect or deny.

Attention on what you LIKE:

Most people tend to put much more thought and effort into complainig and grumbling.

Where thoughts go, energy flows.

Imagine the difference when you decide noticing what is RIGHT and what you LIKE about the situation.

Praising yuor spouse for doing things that please you are well known to bring about mroe actions that please you.  Finding something you like about a person will increase good will between you.

Smile:

Smiling actually brings about chemical changes within the body. This is not new age fluff or conjecture.

There was a study involving people reading the newspaper with a pencil either in their lips, causing a frown, or in their teeth, causing a smile.  The smilers remembered more good news and reported feeling better.

There is a big word that describes this: psychoneuroimmunology. Throw that word out at a party if you want to impress people with your verbal prowess. It simply means that the thoughts, chemistry and immune system are linked.

 Create a new habit:

Any focus of attention is a habit. Whether that habit is gossiping or saying thank you. Developing good habits is a mtter of focusing your attention and guiding yourself day by day to showing up in the world the way you desire.

What can you do to effort less and have more fun?

Inspirational thoughts don’t always need to be deep and meditative. Sometimes inspirational thoughts can come from a twist of the mind to make old things new.

The mind can be like a solid anchor locking you into beliefs and thought patterns that keep you stuck.

OR the mind can make old things new and make the ordinary extraordinary.

How can throwing out trash become fun?

Volkswagon looked for innovative ways to bring fun into life. They ran a competition, and the winners are posted on www.FunTheory.com on YouTube (of course!).

Organizations and concerned citizens have tried to think of ways to keep people from littering for decades.

I remember one commercial about a Native American man standing next to a trash can with litter strewn all around. A sad tear rolled slowly down his cheek.

This did nothing to keep people from littering. It merely increased their tendency to feel sad upon seeing litter.

Robert Cialdini, famous for his book Influence, reported on results of 50 market research studies in his book YES!

Chapter 3 focuses on making the “bandwagon effect” work for you rather than against.

Putting attention on the desired action brings about more change than focusing on what is to be stopped or minimized.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in increasing influence.

Bringing fun and play into ordinary life is also a great way to bring about positive change. The Fun Theory challenge is a perfect example.

This video makes me laugh. I’ve watched it several times just because I love the sound effects. Someone came up with the idea to put a speaker into a public trash can so that when rubbish is tossed in, it sounds as if it is falling far deep.

Bringing FUN into Everyday Life

Imagine how much more pleasant any chore can be when an element of fun and play is added.

Here’s how to do it yourself:

1. Write down any task that you do not think of as fun or one you tend to feel is “hard”.

2. Ask your brain to come up with a game or an idea that will make the task fun.

3. Implement the most fun and innovative idea your brain shares with you.

4. Enjoy the feelings you experience when the task you found hard or not fun suddenly becomes interesting.

5. Smile and notice your smile. This will anchor smiling as a way to bring about the same feelings within you.
