BOOK REVIEW: The Source Field Investigations: The Hidden Science and Lost Civilizations Behind the 2012 Prophecies by David Wilcock (Dutton) 2011

Are you ready to have your mind blown? Are you fascinated with the Mayans, their calendar and their ancient prophecies relating to something scheduled to happen on Dec. 21, 2012?

If you are then The Source Field Investigations: The Hidden Science and Lost Civilizations Behind the 2012 Prophecies is the book for you. In fact, quite coincidentally (if you believe in that sort of thing) a good friend of mine purchased Wilcock’s new book on the very same day I did. He just got his in the mail a day ahead of me. And while we read it, we would share thoughts and notes and just smile, knowing that there was some very special, inside info that the author was revealing.

For instance, in a chapter called “Time Slips, Time Warps and Vortex Phenomena,” Wilcock states: “The Source Field is the master key – a fluidlike energy that ultimately creates space, time, matter, energy, biology and consciousness.”

Wilcock grabs your attention with this bold and striking statement. He follows it in the next sentence, stating: “The ancients appeared to know vastly more about the Source Field than we ever gave them credit for. They built stone structures that may well have created enough coherence to harness ‘natural stargates’ that appear in the earth – when the geometry inside the earth aligns with the geometry in the solar system.”

Wilcock goes on. And that’s just the beginning of chapter 17. There’s so much more going on in The Source Field Investigations that it’s hard to keep up with Wilcock’s train of thought at times. But you sense the excitement of his discoveries and are grateful to be reading the information he has uncovered and is sharing in this easy-to-read book that comes in at 462 pages.

Over the course of this thick tome, full of amazing ideas, philosophical notions and alternative science. Wilcock received a lot of exposure on his multi-part video series called The 2012 Enigma.

Who is this David Wilcock and how did he come up with this information? Well, he’s a 38-year-old lecturer and author from Los Angeles who is a regular of Coast to Coast AM and has been featured as an expert on the popular History Channel series “Ancient Aliens.” He also runs a fascinating blog called Divine Cosmos.

Some would say that for Wilcock to tie in the idea of some “event” taking place in 2012 is just some get-rich-quick scheme by some New Age guru or someone playing on the fears of the same folks who stocked up their basement with jugs of water and Ramen noodles prior to Y2K.

I would like to say that I was a little skeptical with some of the 2012 stuff but something about Wilcock’s book caught my eye. I am starting to think there is something more to all of this the more I read about it and The Source Field certainly opened my eyes.

And with Wilcock, that would include the “third eye” or the pineal gland. Wilcock notes, in an early chapter, how the Roman Catholic Church has embraced all sorts of mysterious symbology, including the pineal-gland-linked “Court of the Pinecone” at the Vatican, which features a large, ancient bronze statue of a pinecone. This was the main item I wanted to see during a recent Vatican visit. And he also notes that the “pinecone” imagery is “an extremely important symbol” for the Roman Catholic Church, particularly when it is placed so prominently at the Vatican. Many, many ancient cultures embraced the pinecone symbology, usually on a staff, as seen on the Pope’s own staff.

Near the giant Vatican “pinecone” is a large “eyeball” a “sphere-within-a-sphere” that seems to be sending a pretty clear message about the importance of the pineal gland in the brain, or the third eye.

So, what of 2012? In a chapter titled “Pyramid Power – Our Key to the Golden Age,” Wilcock said that the Pyramids at Giza, Egypt are great sources of power and that in the Golden Age triggered by the coming events in 2012 are of great importance. Wilcock explains that pyramid power can help Earth and humanity by reducing radiation, closing up ozone holes, reducing the damaging effects of earthquakes and severe weather, purify water, improve crops and help people with diseases. He also said that “this hidden force” that he is discovering is connected to pyramids and that at the DNA level, humanity could improve by tapping into this celestial energy.

Asks Wilcock: “Is it possible that the DNA code is somehow written into the basic energy of the galaxy itself, so that we are actively being transformed into a whole new level of human evolution?”

In another chapter, this on “The Gravity of the Source Field,” Wilcock explains that a Russian scientist, Dr. Nikolai Kozyrev, stumbled upon this energy field – “This was when he first realized that he had not merely discovered the flow of time. It was not just an energy that flowed in and out of physical matter. It was the energy of the Mind as well. The Source Field. With this discovery, Kozyrev could now prove that our thoughts were not locked away privately in our own brains – they created measurable signals that his detectors could pick up.” Again, the power of the Source Field at work, posits Wilcock.

Wilcock also shows, in later chapters, that the United States of America is part of this long-range plan and the shift into the Golden Age, post 2012. He shows that back of the $1 bill and the pyramid and the “eye” acting as the capstone. Apparently on the levels of the pyramid they are divided into 13 levels of 19.7 years each, from 1776 and ending in 2012. This 13th level began in 1993 and ends next year, according to the book and that from 2012 to 2032, “the pineal gland opens.” Will that really happen? Well, there are enough people in positions of knowledge and power who believe it will.

For instance, Graham Hancock, the respected author of Fingerprints of the Gods, among others, gives Wilcock’s book a very complimentary introduction, writing: “(I)f David is right, the hidden Source Field generating the lucid dream we call reality can be expected to make its presence and its influence felt with great power and persistence in the coming years – and to have profound effects on human consciousness.”

Concluding, Wilcock writes that “Clearly there is a wealth of evidence suggesting that the anciencts were absolutely convinced that major events would be heading our way as we go through the shift into the Age of Aquarius. We’ve seen proof that the Maya calendar corresponds to real cycles in the solar system that may well be driven by the galaxy – cycles that are now causing us to experience interplanetary climate change as we head into the Age of Aquarius.”

The Source Field Investigations may not be for everybody. David Wilcock is undeniably a controversial figure. But if this author is on the right track – and I suspect he is – the coming events and change in consciousness will affect all of us in one way or another. This is an important book.

Space Weather

On 31 January 2011 Susan Joy Rennison held a presentation titled Space Weather: Implications for planet Earth and humankind. Here is a short description of this more than two and a half hour long presentation:

According to Richard Fisher, head of NASA’s Heliophysics Division: “Earth and space are about to come into contact in a way that’s new to human history. I believe we’re on the threshold of a new era in which space weather can be as influential in our daily lives as ordinary terrestrial weather. We take this very seriously indeed.”

For a long time we believed that we lived in a gravity driven universe. According to Susan Joy Rennison, and many others in the meantime, we do not; instead, we live in an electromagnetic universe. At this time thousands of scientists are studying the behaviour of the sun to predict Space Weather. Plasma and particle bursts can and have disrupted satellites, high frequency radio communications, GPS failures, power grids etc. and looking at the rather turbulent life our sun is presently leading, more is on the way.

Most textbooks and literature about cosmology are completely out of date, reason for Rennison to educate people about why scientists studying Space Weather find that they have had to abandon many old ideas. But the understanding of an electromagnetic universe is already over 100 years old, having been promoted by great Nobel Prize winning minds like Hannes Alfvén. Rennison thinks engineering students need to realize that during severe Space Weather events, uncontrolled electric currents will flow through virtually everything on the planet. Discussion of quantum mechanics will not help. It is more important for people to realise that in the bombardment of planet Earth we are also receiving dark energy and dark matter and scientists have tried to understand how that will effect Earth, but, Rennison claims, the astronomical impact is still discussed from an outdated point of view.

This is where Rennison combines modern science with a more spiritual approach. It has been over 35 years since Fritjof Kapra wrote his book The Tao of Physics, an attempt to bring Western science and Eastern philosophy together. Even as much as 100 years ago, physicists wondered about quantum physics and its consequences of a relation between mind and matter. Since that time science has been divided between those who believe matter stands on its own in a gravity controlled universe – the majority of scientists – and those who believe we, as human observers, co-create the conscious universe we live in.

Are all the world’s crises a sign that something really has to change in our way of thinking and acting? Susan Joy Rennison discusses the latest press releases from NASA and ESA and other books and articles published since she wrote her book Tuning the Diamonds in 2006, on the relation between electromagnetism and spirituality.

Since then, many of her ideas have become reality as Space Weather is becoming more and more of an issue in everyday life. Although hardly discussed in the media, Space Weather is strongly affecting our life. Both in the technology we use and in our bodies, which are after all electromagnetic systems as well. There is, Rennison states, a serious problem with the electromagnetic understanding of the human body. Most scientist prefer people to think of themselves in terms of chemicals. Yet DNA is a nanotube that obeys quantum mechanical laws. Progress in DNA research has shown that DNA behaves in a much more adaptable way than earlier assumed.

Unified Reality Theory

In the book titled Unified Reality Theory: The Evolution Of Existence Into Experience, Steven Kaufman presents a persuasively argued, philosophically profound, and aptly presented original study, centering upon the hypothesis that “reality is a state of existential self-relation.” Consciousness and awareness is truly the source of physical reality, rather than a byproduct, and physical reality is merely one facet of a universal consciousness.

Kaufman states that Unified Reality Theory is a model of reality that describes in detail how the universe gets something from nothing – that is, it shows how the somethings we experience as reality evolve from a more fundamental level that’s nothing. “Nothing” doesn’t mean nonexistence, just existence that’s not a “thing.”

The level of existential nothingness from which experiential somethings arise is referred to in the model as absolute existence. Central to the description of how something can come from nothing is the understanding that absolute existence must have consciousness as an attribute that’s intrinsic to its being. That is, consciousness isn’t something separate from absolute existence, but rather the word “consciousness” and the phrase “absolute existence” are two different ways of pointing toward the same undefinable level of nothingness from which all somethings arise.

In viewing consciousness as fundamental, Unified Reality Theory takes a position on the nature of reality that’s in opposition to the dominant conception of reality held in the West. That dominant conception of reality is called material realism. Material realism is the idea that physical reality is primary and consciousness is secondary. Material realism is the idea that the machinations of physical reality in general and brain function in particular somehow give rise to the phenomenon we call consciousness.

Standing in opposition to the philosophy of material realism is the philosophy of idealism, the concept that nonphysical reality is the primary phenomenon and that physical reality is the secondary phenomenon. Idealism is the conception of reality that in general underlies the Eastern religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism and in particular is the conception of reality supported by Unified Reality Theory.

Although the philosophy of material realism sees physical reality as primary, material realism is itself an idea, a model, a concept. Concepts are mental constructions built from ordering or creating a relationship between two or more experiential somethings. The interesting thing about concepts is that they can be completely wrong and yet seem just as real as if they were right – that is, they can be constructed in a way that completely reverses the actual relationship between the experiences composing the concept, so that the resulting mental construction is the exact opposite of the actuality.  In other words, there’s nothing to stop us from creating a mental floor plan of reality that mistakenly puts the first floor on top of the second, or the third floor between the first and second, or from leaving a floor out entirely.

We all have a conception of reality that consists of how we see the world arranged and how we see ourselves fitting into that arrangement. Consciously or unconsciously, this conception of reality is the map we use to guide us on the journey of life. One of the things that motivated Kaufman to create Unified Reality Theory was the understanding that our conception of reality is an important factor in how we lead our lives. With this in mind, his goal was to create the most accurate and detailed map of the terrain of reality he possibly could. Although no conception of reality can perfectly match the underlying actuality, just as no map is the actual terrain, the closer the correspondence between our map of reality and the actual terrain of reality, the more enjoyable our trip will be. This doesn’t mean that we won’t encounter any difficulties along the way – that we won’t blow out a tire or run out of gas on occasion – it just means that we won’t be so prone to let the difficulties we do encounter take all the fun out of the trip we’re on.

Our conception of reality is important because as we move through life, we’re bound to a chain of intention-conception-action-result. Intention is the mover, the flow. However, intention, on its way to becoming action, is filtered through the lens of conception, and that’s where we can get into trouble.

For an intention to create a desired result, the conception that’s the basis for the action needs to be in alignment with the actuality. If it’s not, if the conception is the reverse of the actuality, then the result will be the opposite of what’s intended. For example, you can have a conception about which spigot at a sink is for the hot or cold water. This conception need have nothing to do with the actuality in order for you to conceive it and believe it. Yet, when you then act on that conception, intending to run cold water over your hand, the actuality will then rear its head, and if your conception was wrong, you’ll run hot water and burn your hand instead, getting a result that’s the opposite of what you intended. This is a simple example, but the chain is linked in the same way at all levels with regard to our conceptions of reality, regardless of whether those conceptions deal with something as mundane as a faucet or as abstract as the nature of reality.

As stated earlier, concepts are mental constructions built from the ordering of experiences. Connect experiences together in a certain way, in a certain relationship, and you have a concept. Because concepts require some assembly, the experiences that make up a concept can be ordered in a way that either accurately or inaccurately portrays the actuality. Concepts that accurately portray the actuality are true or correct, whereas concepts that inaccurately portray the actuality are untrue, incorrect, and mistaken.

Having said that, Kaufman maintains that the philosophy of material realism is mistaken. Any conception of reality that’s constructed by placing physical reality before consciousness is simply incorrect. There’s no nice way to put it. The ordering of physical reality and consciousness that’s fundamental to the philosophy of material realism inaccurately depicts the actual relationship between physical reality and consciousness. In fact, the relationship between physical reality and consciousness as depicted by material realism is the exact opposite of their actual relationship. Just as the branches and leaves of a tree extend from the trunk, so all the forms of physical reality extend from consciousness, not the other way around.

Material realism is the flat-Earth idea of our time. Why does Kaufman say this? Because there are so many parallels between the idea of material realism and the idea of a flat Earth. The first parallel is that neither idea corresponds to the underlying reality or actuality. The second parallel is that the conception of reality contained in each idea seems obvious from the most common and limited perspective. Why did people think the Earth was flat? Because that’s the way it seems to be, from a common and limited perspective: Stand and look at the horizon, and the Earth appears flat. Why do people think physical reality precedes consciousness? Because that’s the way it seems to be, from a common and limited perspective. What we call consciousness is clearly related to brain function, and the brain is a physical reality. From this perspective, it seems obvious that consciousness is in some way a product of physical reality. The third parallel is that adherence to each idea limits our exploration of reality. No doubt, people didn’t go on long journeys for fear of falling off the edge of the Earth. Likewise, if someone thinks their consciousness is purely a product of brain function, there would seem to be no need to look any deeper for its source. A fourth parallel is that each idea can be clearly seen as erroneous once added experience creating a broader perspective is achieved.  The broader experience that put to rest the flat-Earth idea came from sailors who didn’t fall off the edge of the Earth, from people who went outward into physical reality. The broader experience that will eventually put to rest the idea of material realism has been achieved by physicists studying physical reality at very small levels of magnitude, at what’s called the quantum level – by people who went inward into physical reality.

Integral to quantum theory are the phenomena of wave/particle duality and quantum uncertainty. The discovery of these phenomena has brought into question the very nature of physical reality. Wave/particle duality and quantum uncertainty have shown that physical reality, at least at the quantum level, doesn’t exist independent of an observer, which is to say independent of consciousness or awareness. How, then, can physical reality be the source of that without which it wouldn’t exist as such?

Yet the phenomena of wave/particle duality and quantum uncertainty have been known for almost 100 years, and while even early explorers into the quantum realm, such as Neils Bohr, seemed to understand what the existence of these phenomena might imply regarding the nature of physical reality and its relationship to consciousness, science as a whole and the West in general remain by and large dominated by a material-realist philosophy, a conception of reality that places matter above all else.

Evidence is beginning to mount pointing toward an idealist conception of reality, a version wherein consciousness is primary or, at the very least, not secondary. But people don’t simply discard one concept unless they have something to replace it with. If a supporting beam is rotted, you don’t just yank it out, you replace it, unless you want the whole house to come tumbling down. Likewise, people replace concepts; they don’t just remove them, because they don’t want their whole conceptual world to come tumbling down.

The difficulty in trying to get people to replace their material-realist beam with an idealist beam is that idealism has been, until now, a fairly intangible philosophy, a conception of reality that’s hard to grasp. People are reluctant to switch from a concept as graspable as material realism to one as nebulous as idealism. The difficulty for idealists has been in demonstrating how the universe gets something from nothing. Material realism, as an idea, is easy to grasp, and so it’s hard to let go of. Experiences of something appearing to turn into nothing are common: fire, decay, evaporation, etc. Idealism, on the other hand, is a harder idea to grasp because we don’t really have any experiences to compare it to – that is, we don’t have experiences of something appearing to come from nothing (except perhaps in magical acts where a rabbit is pulled from a hat, which serves to illustrate how credible we consider such an occurrence to be). The purpose of Unified Reality Theory is to demonstrate clearly and visibly how something comes from nothing, how physical reality evolves from consciousness, and in so doing to provide a viable alternative to the material-realist conception of reality.

Thomas Campbell – The Monroe Institute Lecture

Campbell was one of the original consciousness explorers at The Monroe Institute (TMI) in Virginia in the 1970s and the explorer identified as “TC Physicist” in Bob Monroe‘s book Far Journeys. Campbell, working alongside electrical engineer Dennis Mennerich, discovered what is now known as Hemi-Sync, the binaural-beat approach to inner exploration that came to be almost synonymous with TMI.

As Bob Monroe’s protégé, Campbell worked in the TMI lab and participated in explorer sessions as a subject. He was one of the first trainers and finished his tenure at TMI as an advisory-board member.

Using his mastery of the out-of-body experience as a springboard, he dedicated his research to discovering the outer boundaries, inner workings, and causal dynamics of the larger reality system. In February of 2003, Campbell published the My Big TOE trilogy, which represents the results and conclusions of his scientific exploration of the nature of existence. This overarching model of reality, mind, and consciousness merges physics with metaphysics, explains the paranormal as well as the normal, places spirituality within a scientific context, and provides direction for those wishing to personally experience an expanded awareness of All That Is.

My Big TOE

The trilogy My Big TOE, written by a nuclear physicist Thomas Campbell in the language of contemporary Western culture, unifies science and philosophy, physics and metaphysics, mind and matter, purpose and meaning, the normal and the paranormal. Synopsis of the My Big TOE books

Book 1: Awakening provides in Section 1 a partial biography of the author that is pertinent to the subsequent creation of this trilogy. This brief look at the author’s unique experience and credentials sheds some light upon the origins of this highly unusual work. The unusual associations, circumstances, and training that eventually led to the creation of the My Big TOE trilogy are offered to provide a more accurate perspective of the whole.

Section 2 lays out and defines the basic conceptual building blocks needed to construct My Big TOE’s conceptual foundation. It discusses the cultural beliefs that trap our thinking into a narrow and limited conceptualization of reality, defines the basics of Big Picture epistemology and ontology, as well as examines the nature and practice of meditation. Section 2 logically infers the nature of time, space, and consciousness as well as describes the basic properties, purpose, and mechanics of our reality.

Book 2: Discovery develops in Section 3 the interface and interaction between we the people and our digital consciousness reality. It derives and explains the characteristics, origins, dynamics, and function of ego, love, and free will. It derives our larger purpose. It also develops the psi uncertainty principle as it explains and interrelates psi phenomena, free will, love, consciousness evolution, reality, human purpose, and entropy.

Section 4 lays out an operational and functional model of consciousness that further develops the results of Section 3 and supports the conclusions of Section 5. The origins and nature of digital consciousness are described along with how artificial intelligence (AI), as embodied in AI Guy, leads to artificial consciousness, which leads to actual consciousness and to ourselves. Section 4 derives our physical universe, our science, and our perception of a physical reality. The mind-matter dichotomy is solved as physical reality is directly derived from the nature of digital consciousness.

Book 3: Inner Workings presents in Section 5 the formal reality model in detail. In this section the mechanics of reality are explained. You will find out how the past present and future are formed, how they can be altered, and how you interact with the larger reality as an individuated unit of consciousness. Here is explained inter and intra dimensional awareness and is probed the theoretical possibilities of teleportation, time travel and a few of the more fun ramifications of this reality model.

Section 6 is the wrap-up that puts everything discussed into an easily understood perspective. Additionally, Section 6 points out My Big TOE’s relationship with contemporary science and philosophy. By demonstrating a close conceptual relationship between this TOE and some of the establishment’s biggest scientific and philosophic intellectual guns, Section 6 integrates My Big TOE into traditional Western science and philosophy.

Physics and Science

Modern science and technology are only now providing the combined knowledge by which metaphysics can be understood. It should not be too surprising that science, in its relentless explorations of the unknown, would one day arrive at the roots of existence itself. As it turns out, the nature of reality has both an objective and a subjective component. It delivers a comprehensive first look at a Unified Theory Of Everything – not the way traditional science expected it, but then, if it was the way traditional science expected it, it couldn’t actually be a Big TOE, could it? If you want to see the unified Big Picture, you must step out of the conceptual box that limits your understanding and knowledge to what can be derived from only local (little picture) experience.

Philosophy

Modern analytical (logic based, not belief-based) philosophers have been hot on the heels of a larger more primary reality that is based upon mind, consciousness, or spirit. They have been much closer to Big Truth for centuries than the scientists but didn’t know how to integrate their knowledge with the physical world. These philosophers did not fully appreciate the subjective component of reality, or that subjective information requires an objective assessment before its value can be determined.

Without these understandings it was difficult for philosophers to differentiate knowledge from pseudo-knowledge. In an age mesmerized by the results of objective science, narrowly focused critics had little trouble discounting the significance of philosophy’s contribution toward understanding a reality defined entirely by physical measurement.

A profound understanding of reality, a coming together of science and philosophy, can occur only within the Big Picture. When our understanding is complete and whole, all the puzzle pieces fit nicely together. As long as our understanding remains fragmented by our limiting beliefs, competing culturally correct cliques within the little picture will define and therefore limit our vision of reality. The breakthrough solutions that the scientists and philosophers have been seeking for many decades lie outside the little picture; one cannot get to them without stepping beyond the limitations of a local objective causality.

Metaphysics – East and West

The My Big TOE trilogy fully integrates a subjective, personal, and holistic worldview with objective science. East and West merge, not simply as a compatible or mutually reinforcing mixture, but as a fully integrated single solution.

The stunning success of science and engineering in the twentieth century would seem to prove the usefulness as well as the correctness of the materially focused Western view. The result is that many people, whether from the East, West, North, or South of our planet, view reality from an objective and materialistic perspective that often coexists with some culturally based traditional form of religious and social dogma.

Thus, a balance, or standoff, between our inner and outer needs evolves into a practical worldview that encourages Western material productivity. A pragmatic materialism that depends on objective causality is used to generate the appearance of a manipulatable, rational, stability on the outside, while a belief-system of some sort provides the necessary personal security on the inside. To eliminate the discomfort of these conflicting worldviews, the two ends of this bipolar conceptual dichotomy are typically kept separate and do not mix or integrate to any significant depth. Each supports the other superficially as they together produce a materially focused, responsible, upwardly striving worker with a good work ethic, cooperative values, an inclination toward dependency, and a high tolerance of pain.

Theology

A truly Big TOE must explain everything – matter and mind, physics and metaphysics, normal and paranormal – the spiritual as well as the material aspects of existence. An accurate and comprehensive Big TOE cannot help but shed new light upon the theological questions that have gone unanswered for millennia. Though My Big TOE is about science, not theology, it provides a new scientific basis for a grand rethinking and restructuring of fundamental theological concepts. No belief systems of any sort are required to clearly understand what lies beyond physical experience, or why.

Ontology and Epistemology

My Big TOE develops a theory of being that will permanently reorient the ontological and epistemological landscape. With its clear understanding of the origins, nature, and mechanics of consciousness, My Big TOE  answers long standing questions of the point, purpose, meaning, and mechanics of existence as well as the significance of human interaction within that existence. My Big TOE approaches these problems and founds its specific detailed solutions on straightforward scientific analysis. No beliefs of any sort and no unusual assumptions are used to unravel the mysteries of being, consciousness, and the larger reality.

Truth and Big Truth (relative and absolute truth) are formally and logically defined and differentiated. The fundamental difficulty of separating knowledge from belief is thoroughly explored and a methodology to facilitate the separation process is developed.

Cosmology

The Big TOE trilogy develops a detailed description of the origins of our physical universe within the context of a reality that is much larger than the physical universe. The Big Digital Bang is integrated within a larger picture of existence that clearly answers many of the outstanding cosmological issues concerning the origins of the universe. Our universe is described as one among many local realities within a larger reality system. The nature, origins and mechanics of this larger reality system are clearly and specifically described.

Consciousness – Artificial Intelligence

The My Big TOE trilogy develops a theory of consciousness that fully explains and models human experience – all of human experience – normal and paranormal, material and spiritual. The origins, nature, and mechanics of consciousness are described in detail. Consciousness, existence, values, emotion, experience, individual identity and group interactions all are integrated in one comprehensive detailed model of cognitive awareness. This model of consciousness not only accurately describes human consciousness in all its aspects, but also develops the theoretical connection between consciousness, reality, experience, brains, and digital computers. Systems Theory and Systems Analysis

The My Big TOE trilogy is built upon a theory of complex self-modifying interactive systems. Many of its results are generally applicable to all such systems.

Meditation and Meditation Techniques

In an aside in Book 1, a detailed analysis of the mechanics and function of meditation is offered to help the reader become personally acquainted with his or her consciousness. What meditation accomplishes, how and why it works, and a set of techniques, with instructions applicable to everyone, are described.

Personal Development

Once the larger reality is successfully modeled, a clear understanding of the dynamics of consciousness quality falls naturally from that model. Increasing consciousness quality is equivalent to spiritual growth. Thus spirituality becomes an attribute of individual consciousness – a dimension of being. You will find out unambiguously how you fit into the Big Picture – how you are personally connected to the whole.

Potential Impact of My Big TOE

Any major new branch of science must begin its unfolding as a top-down big picture analysis of the pertinent data. New scientific paradigms generally begin at a broad conceptual level and then eventually move, over time, toward more specific applications. Such a top-down process often begins with the discovery of a more general relationship between common objects or events. Typically, the old paradigms become special cases of the new – applicable only under certain conditions.

The basic conceptual foundation must be clearly laid-out and thoroughly assimilated before the more traditional bottoms-up scientific approach can be constructed upon it. Only after scientists achieve a certain minimum level of basic understanding can they begin to profitably calculate and experiment their way toward a deeper and more productive knowledge.

The point is: The public message of My Big TOE is focused on developing the conceptual foundation upon which a more traditional future science will one day be based. You see, Campbell has not written My Big TOE to frustrate and torture left brained techies with incalculable theory; the time for massive calculation has simply not yet arrived. At this point in the conceptual revolution presented by My Big TOE, everyone can come along on the journey. Scientists have no particular advantage over nonscientists because Campbell has been careful not to couch his descriptions in techno-jargon or to be too techno-boring. In fact, at the front-end of discovery, right brainers, and better yet, whole brainers, have the decided edge in leaping new paradigms in a single bound.

Some patience is required. My Big TOE provides a rational, logically consistent Theory Of Everything, develops the required new paradigms to support that theory, constructs a solid scientific foundation for future explorations to be built upon, and explains the interfaces and connections between newly derived knowledge and the existing database of scientific and personal experience. This trilogy subsumes physics, redeems philosophy, and explains many public as well as private phenomena. A broad conceptual top-down exposition of the fundamentals of Big Picture Reality is where this train must start.

If and when the Big TOE conceptual brain-train begins to move and pick up speed, it may well initiate the beginning of an independent outpouring of Big TOE science, social science, and philosophy that will begin to take root immediately, and slowly produce fruit over time at ever greater levels of specificity. That is how science moves from concept to application – very slowly, and with casts of thousands. Increment by increment, discovery by discovery – the more people who get involved and apply their brain power, the more quickly the train picks up speed.
