Sample Print has been set up and designed to provide an easy to use sample service for the large format printer industry. With this in mind we have mainly kept our site 'information based' and not included a large amount of detail on current offers from manufacturers, etc.

However, we do receive a great number of enquiries each week on the current prices of various printers, etc. and with this in mind we have updated our product pages to include the most up-to-date offer for that particular printer. This has been done to help our visitors find out the most current information on the printer that most interests them.

Another enquiry we often receive is 'can you directed me to an authorised reseller in my area'. We have now included a link on each printer offer shown that will take you to a contact page where you can request further information. In response we will then send you further details on the offer you expressed interest in and also provide you with the authorised resellers that are most local to you.

Neither of these changes in any way affects our ability to provide you with a fantastic print sample and are designed to provide an even more encompassing and helpful service based upon your needs.

Architectural Photographers "The Shift Exhibition" - uses Canon iPF8100 Large Format Printer

London, 29th September 2009: Four Architectural Photographers; Victoria Gibbs, Paul Grundy, Murray Scott and Martin Stewart, look at how their city moves in a new exhibition of their work to be held in London, starting October 12th. Canon has provided support for the group, printing their work on the Canon iPF8100 large format printer, using Canon’s gloss media, to provide the exhibition images.

The Shift Exhibition is a unique approach at showcasing work from four Architectural Photographers looking at the way their city moves, in a new exhibition being held at
The Gallery, 77 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EL: (Courtesy of Alan Baxter & Associates). The exhibition will run October 12 – 23rd October with a private viewing 14th October 6 – 8 pm.

The four photographers, Victoria Gibbs, Paul Grundy, Murray Scott and Martin Stewart each look at the way people move around the great city of London. Each photographer has chosen a subset of the many transport options available through the city and has explored it in extraordinary depth.

Paul Grundy a photographer for more than 30 years explains how the idea became reality.
“The digital age has meant for most of us, less connection with other photographers, where once we would have met regularly at the Lab, these days it’s a reasonably remote existence. A group of us started meeting every so often socially bringing some of our work to show, out of this the four of us decided we should exhibit; a theme was born, and the idea came to life.”

The difficulty these photographers are often faced with is how to introduce their work to new areas of business. Architectural photography is not always about just taking shots of buildings, but relaying how the building co-exists with its surroundings and the people that will use it. “The exhibition allows us to showcase our architectural photography to potential and existing customers but often in a way they wouldn’t have envisaged”, Grundy explains

All the four photographers use Canon EOS cameras, ranging from the 5D to 1D Mark III. When faced with a decision on how to print the images for the exhibition, a fellow photographer who has a Canon ImagePROGRAF iPF8100 large format printer suggested they use this printer which Canon were happy to support. Business Development Manager for Canon, Kevin Smith said, “The exhibition showcases not only the artistic approach to Architectural Photography, but offers us a chance to exhibit the quality of our photographic printers, inks and media. We’re very happy to support this knowing many of the people viewing the exhibition will be printing from CAD and Photographic applications as well.”

The exhibition displays the four photographers and their exhibited pieces.

“Abridged” by Victoria Gibbs, is centred around the River Thames, a place of central focus, history and constant movement. Gibbs looks at how the interaction of beautiful structures and transport blends to form a life completely of its own. Having photographed the stretch of water on the Tate to Tate route, Gibbs capitalises on this short but expansive journey between two of the worlds most famous galleries.

“Welcome to Heathrow” by Paul Grundy, looks up over the roof tops of London to Heathrow in the west and has focused on the flight path, travelling in and out of London. Grundy has captured an unusual and surprising snap shot of modern life in the streets and avenues that reside beneath this unseen route.

“On the Move” by Murray Scott, uses modern techniques to create a unique illustration of the many different routes people take around the capital. From commuters travelling to work, to tourists seeing the sights, his work explores the relationship between people and their environment as they move from place to place. Murray has created multi-layered images that track individual routes through the frame. By using several exposures shot through an ever-changing viewfinder, each image is gradually built up to give a picture of how London moves.

“Hub” by Martin Stewart explores how people get to and through the new Westfield London Shopping Centre in White City. As Europe's biggest inner-city shopping centre and with its array of new transport links, Westfield makes an ideal case study for an in-depth view of the routes to and through a purpose-built urban centre. As people arrive by their various methods of transport, Stewart documents their progress around the mall linking the beauty of the building with the movement through its hub.

“The response for the exhibition has been very positive”, says Grundy, “We are expecting plenty of viewings from existing users of our work and many new.”

Press Release For Sample Print Joining Forces With David Anthony Hall

Large format printer samples website, Sample Print (www.sampleprint.co.uk) and landscape artist David Anthony Hall (www.senezio.com) have teamed up to provide samples of the artist’s work.

Launched last year, Sample Print (www.sampleprint.co.uk) provides print samples to people who are looking at the potential of large format printing or considering which large format printer is best for them. The site provides stunning A1 samples that show off the printers at their best, whilst at the same time providing a stunning image that can be put on display.

The site currently has work from award winning photographer Drew Gardner (www.drewgardner.co.uk) and this is now complemented by addition of the work of landscape artist David Anthony Hall (www.senezio.com).

Hall has agreed for three pieces of his work to be added to the site and each piece brings the best out of the large format medium. Hall says, “I have been working with large format printers for many years and much of my current work is produced in this way. When the idea of using my work on the Sample Print site was mentioned, I was happy to use some of my pieces to help people learn more about this medium and whether it was right for them and their work”.

Hall has also recently worked with group of vendors and suppliers on a charitable work called ‘Autumn Light’ that will be premiered at his first solo exhibition (1st to 14th June 2009 as a solo exhibition and from then until 31st June 2009 as a group show) in London’s West End at Thompson’s Gallery (www.thompsonsgallery.co.uk) in Marylebone.

‘Autumn Light’ is dedicated to the memory of Hall’s natural father ‘Antonio Senezio’ and the proceeds of the sale will be donated equally between Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support and the St. Bart’s Hospital’s East Wing.

All samples from the Sample Print site are provided free of charge. However, Hall has asked that if any of his pieces are liked enough for the requestor to display them, that they might consider a donation to charity. Hall said, “The site is totally there for people looking to see if large format printing is right for them. However, if they find that they like the image enough to put it on display and want to donate some money to charity, then everybody wins.”

Landscape artist David Anthony Hall (http://www.senezio.com/) has teamed up with group of vendors and suppliers on a charitable work that will be premiered at his first solo exhibition (1st to 14th June 2009 as a solo exhibition and from then until 31st June 2009 as a group show) in London’s West End at Thompson’s Gallery (http://www.thompsonsgallery.co.uk/) in Marylebone.

The piece entitled ‘Autumn Light’ is a stunning example of Hall’s work, whilst also being a fantastic representation of the landscape and large format medium itself.

‘Autumn Light’ is dedicated to the memory of Hall’s natural father ‘Antonio Senezio’ and the proceeds of the sale will be donated equally between Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support and the St. Bart’s Hospital’s East Wing.

Hall has been supported in producing this piece by Canon UK (http://www.canon.co.uk/) whose large format printer the work was produced upon; Velmex Distribution (www.velmex.co.uk) who printed the work; Drytac Europe (http://www.drytac.com/) and Genesis Imaging (http://www.genesis-digital.net/) who helped to produce the stunning finish.

As with all of the work at the exhibition the piece is an archival print mounted in acrylic block. This is a technique that achieves a floating, three dimensional quality unobtainable by any other process. It is thought that ‘Autumn Light’ at its 2.7 x 1.5 metre size may be the largest piece ever produced to be finished in this way,

Hall says, “People have said that they feel like they are walking into my images, that they bring the outdoors inside. This piece is certainly the most natural extension of this because of its sheer size. To be able to produce this work and for it to benefit causes that are very close to my heart is extremely rewarding.”

The image was printed by Velmex Distribution who is leading distributor of large format printing products. Mark Keeley MD of Velmex says, “To work on such a piece is fantastic. David’s work is stunning and is a glowing representation of large format excelling in the landscape genre. ‘Autumn Light’ was printed on the Canon iPF9100 and really shows off the stunning detail the printer can produce. Canon Wins European Digital Graphic Press (EDP) Award

Each year, the leading European Digital Graphic Press magazines and an independent jury choose the winners of the European Digital Graphic Press Awards for the best products in the digital graphic press industry.

This year Canon have won the award for 'Photographic Printer' for their iPF6000s, iPF8000s and iPF9000s.

Canon ImagePROGRAF iPF820 wins BLI "Pick 2008 Outstanding Wide Format" award

To add to the array of awards the Image Prograf series have won this year, now the 44" iPF 820 has received "Outstanding Wide Format Colour Inkjet Multipurpose printer award" from the independant Buyers Lab Inc (BLI). The award comes after BLI carried out extensive tests with the product at their laboratory in Wokingham.

Shane Burchett, Product Manager for Canon said "We are very pleased to have won this award, as it not only positions the product as an outstanding product in the market, but it also demonstrates the products ability to be used in both the CAD and Graphic Arts markets". David Sweetnam BLI European Lab and Research Manager adds "This device displayed exceptional print quality across a wide range of applications, from maps and architectural plans printed on standard bond paper to high quality photographs printed on Canon's premium photo paper". Sweetman also cited the products dual roll ability to quickly switch between paper types, as a contributing factor to the units excellent productivity rating as well as the excellent paper handling and reliablity of performance. Canon's award winning year completed with "Hardware Product of the Year"

Canon has had an award filled year with several of the ImagePROGRAF range winning industry awards. The iPF6100 won the BLI Pick of the year in Spring, closely followed by two BERTL's with the iPF710 winning "Best" low volume machine and the iPF8000s & 9000s winning a BERTL for "Best" print for pay/production in the Summer. More recently the iPF5100, after receiving FOGRA approval, won EDP's "Best" proofing equipment of the year. The iPF820, Canon's 44" CAD machine, has recently recieved the BLI "Pick of the year" award for the Autumn. And if this performance wasn't star studded enough, Canon have just won the "Hardware Product of the Year" category at the Construction Computing Awards 2008 in London (UK) for the ImagePROGRAF large format printer range. At the same event last year, Canon picked up the editor's choice award for the 36in five-colour ImagePROGRAF iPF700.

Canon have been intent on targeting the CAD & GIS markets, and with machines such as the iPF710/720 able to produce an A0 in under a minute, they seem set to pull market share away from the strong hold HP enjoys. The newly release iPF810/820 is according to, the independant, BLI is 50% more productive and uses 3 times less ink than its nearest competitor.

Canon ImagePROGRAF wins BLI's "Pick of the Year" award

Canon has received, yet another award for one of the outstanding ImagePrograf range of products. BLI (Buyers Laboratory Inc) awarded the imagePROGRAF iPF820 – "BLI’s Pick for Wide Format of the Year 08".

Introduced earlier this year, this 44-inch, dual-roll, wide-format printer was designed for the Geographical Information System (GIS) market; Computer-Aided Design (CAD); Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC); Reprographics; and other Technical Document markets. The iPF820 is capable of printing two full-density D/A1-sized (23.4 inches × 33.1 inches) color plots in less than a minute, and finishes E/A0-sized (33.1 inches × 46.8 inches) plots in just 45 seconds including cutting time, and is capable of producing 117 D/A1-sized plots per hourI. The two new products fill a gap in the Canon range, utilising the successful 5 colour dye & pigment reactive ink technology which produces the most vivid colours with the sharpest, thinest of lines, with a range of accuracy to +/- .01% and a minimim line width of .02mm for precision accuracy. These 44" printers have hotswap ink tanks, a blistering speed, with a draft A1 in just 24 seconds, plus a built in 80Gb hard drive. The drivers are well supported with HPGL/2, HP- RTL & HDI. The iPF820 has a dual roll feed as well.

This week Canon launch two new large format printers. These printers are called the imagePROGRAF iPF810 and the imagePROGRAF iPF820.

Both are designed for CAD/GIS applications and include:
