Installing carpet tiles with a baby on the way may have seemed like a good idea at first. Sure, the carpet would protect the baby from the harsh wooden floors and even cushion him when he falls. In truth, having your baby crawl around on the surface of a carpet may be doing him more harm than good.

Studies have shown that carpets have become a hot bed for bacteria, mold spores and mildew. It’s because the fibers of a carpet make cleaning difficult. A lot of time dirt is hidden between the fibers to where a vacuum or broom cannot reach them. And overtime you child walks or crawls over a carpet they are exposed to these elements.

Another problem arises when you try and clean your carpet. You may opt to clean it yourself using store-brought cleaners or hire professionals. Either way, you are still putting your child at risk. Here are some negative effects of cleaning your carpet in a conventional way:

•	Chemicals in the cleaners may be left behind in the carpet and eventually come into contact with your baby’s sensitive skin, causing irritation.

•	Left over shampoo used in carpet cleaning make the fibers of the carpet sticky. This makes it easier for dirt and grime to accumulate.

•	If not properly dried, a wet carpet becomes a source or mold and mildew.

•	Chemicals used in commercial cleaners emit fumes that can irritate the respiratory system.

With these hazards, it looks like getting rid of your entire carpet may be better than living with it. For those who still think that installing carpet tiles is perfect, it’s not the end of the world. There are ways to clean and maintain your carpet without the need to use toxic chemicals that can harm your baby.

Vacuum Regularly. Vacuum your carpet at least twice a week to stop the dirt from accumulating. Make sure to open some windows to promote air circulation. Also, try sweeping the carpet with a stiff broom to help loosen the grime. Remember to clean out the vacuum bag when it’s two-thirds of the way full. This way, you don’t have dust from the vacuum making its way back to your carpet.

Look Inside Your Pantry For Cleaning Products. It may sound weird, but cleaning solvents can be found inside your very own pantry. Grab some vinegar and water and use this to clean stains. Use club soda to deodorize your carpet. Baking soda can also be used to clean your carpet. Just pour it over a stain and leave it overnight. The next day, bring out the vacuum and pass it over the stained area.

Try Steam Cleaning. Steam cleaning is a great alternative to the conventional methods of cleaning a carpet. Use a steam cleaner and fill it with water. Don’t add any other chemicals or shampoo. The heat emitted would be enough to sanitize your carpet. You can pour some vinegar to clean more effectively.

Prevention is Better than Cure. Another way of keeping your carpet clean is by preventing dirt to enter your home. Avoid bringing shoes inside and instead go barefoot or wear some socks. Also, keep your stroller away from the carpet as its wheels can be caked with dirt. If you are planning on renovating your home, make sure to cover your carpet with newspaper or plastic sheeting beforehand.

Go Green. If you really need to use an industrial cleaner, read the labels carefully. There are already a lot of products out there that are chemical-free and safe to use. Look for plant-based cleaners or those that advertise to be environment friendly. This goes the same for carpet cleaning companies. Ask if their supplies are eco-friendly and safe for infants and small children.

Bio: AW Carpets Ltd. is the home of quality carpets and industry standard carpet installers. Their team is dedicated to providing their clients with the best.

A relationship requires you to nurture it with care and understanding. The same holds true for a mother-daughter relationship as well. This relationship needs even more effort as there are always problems pertaining to the space which parents are willing to give to the child. Mothers may want to exercise their authority while daughters may turn rebellious. A balance is needed indeed. Let’s see how women can go about ensuring that they share an amiable relationship with their daughters.

1. Give them space

This is often a very contentious issue. Mothers feel the need to guide their daughters while the daughters are averse to an intrusion into their space. It is important for you to understand that you can only act as a mentor and that too in a subtle manner but it is for your daughter to live her life and to explore what it holds for her. Having someone to guide her may save her from unpleasant experiences but it is impossible for you to set boundaries for your child. If you do, you will only see your daughter turn rebellious.

2. Discuss issues in an intelligent manner

Even when you want to advice your daughter, broach a topic and allow for an interaction to take place. Do not list out the do’s and don’ts straightaway. Listen to what your daughter has to say. Take it forward and say how you would have handled a particular issue differently. Convey the consequences of improper handling of issues. Never allow the conversation to degenerate into an argument. There are some issues on which you may not be able to convince your daughter. Allay your apprehensions by talking over the issue every now and then.

3. Look at things objectively

It is only expected for you to get emotional when it comes to the well being of your child but remember that it is not necessary for you to know about everything. Be willing to listen and to know more. Keep your biases aside and try to understand a situation objectively. Age gap is by itself difficult to bridge. You will have to look at things even from your daughter’s point of view.

4. Keep communication channels open

Even in the worst of circumstances, remember that nothing can be resolved without talking. If any issue is getting out of hand try to keep things cordial. Your relationship with your daughter does not begin with or end at one issue. It is there to stay despite the occasional problems you may encounter.

5. Never impose your ideas

It is possible that you were an understanding daughter but do not expect the same from your daughter all the time. Communicate your ideas without expecting your daughter to follow them as a rule. Let her take a stand on issues. Help her become a confident individual who can take right decisions on her own.

If both sides make an effort, then a relationship can only be cordial. If either mother or daughter is less willing to understand then the other person needs to make more effort to bring the relationship on track and to keep it that way. Mothers need to take a more mature approach in order to instill in their daughters a sense of value for each relationship.

Did you just recently find out that you’re pregnant with twins? If so, that only means you’re twice as blessed but have to have twice as much.

Did you just recently find out that you’re pregnant with twins? If so, that only means you’re twice as blessed but have to have twice as much. Though everyone makes a newborn baby out to be the most expensive thing, there are plenty of ways to cut on their costs.

In order to save money on the cost of your twins, consider a few of these tips:

Try to breastfeed your babies.

One of the most expensive parts of having a baby is paying for all their formula. Just like us, they need to eat on a regular basis, and their formula can be rather pricey. If you can, try to breastfeed both of your babies. Even if you breastfeed part-time, you can cut costs tremendously.

Consider using cloth diapers.

Though not everyone wants to use cloth diapers for their baby, they can be such a great thing to have if you’re looking to save money. Not only will you avoid throwing more garbage in landfills, but you will also never have to buy diapers again.

Buy toys used.

If your baby is eyeing a new toy at the store, it’s hard to not want to give in and buy it for them. Though they may seem very interested in it, there is a good chance that another mom is selling it at a mom-to-mom sale for a quarter of the store price. Be sure to check out mom-to-mom sales and garage sales for some fun toys.

Skip out on unnecessary items.

There are all sorts of baby items out there that aren’t necessary. From carrying your baby around in an expensive baby sling to allowing them to have a bassinet right by your bed, it can add up to a large amount of money that needs to be spent. Try to only get the basic items and avoid getting all the items that you don’t “really” need. Babies grow up too quickly to spend too much money on that sort of stuff.

Share their clothes.

If you know someone who has had children the same age as yours, try to share clothes. Even if you have a boy and he wears pink pajamas to bed, who cares. Again, babies and children grow out of clothes so fast, so it’s silly to buy them all these nice name brand things that they’re either going to grow out of or spit up all over on.

Buy only one item.

When you buy things for your baby or child, try to buy only one of each. Though it’s nice for them to have the same two things, it’s only necessary to have one. For example, one play mat is just fine, while just one diaper bag is fine as well. Sometimes you can get away with just buying one thing for both of them.

A baby shower is a wonderful tradition where the mother-to-be gets gifts for both her and the baby. There are many types of baby shower gifts that seem to show up all the time like baby clothes, diapers and baby books, but what if you want something more creative?

Here are five creative baby shower gifts that are sure to please the mother-to-be:

Diaper Cake

Diapers are a traditional baby shower gift that can turn into a very creative option if you do it a bit differently and present it in the form of a Diaper cake. No, this isn’t the kind of cake that you eat, it is actually a gift made of diapers and other baby products that is presented in the shape of a tiered cake.

Stack up some disposable diapers or cloth diapers to make the shape of a cake. Then, decorate with little colorful baby toys, some cute little baby socks, a pacifier, or other little baby items that can be arranged onto your “cake.”

Gift Basket of Baby Products

Another creative baby shower gift is a gift bag full of baby products. You can use a diaper bag, a pretty basket, or perhaps a baby bathtub and fill it with baby products such as baby lotion, shampoo, feeding spoons, pacifiers, nipples, etc. You could do a theme like baby’s bath, or feeding time, or other ideas for products to include. Add a pretty ribbon and a few coupons for baby products and you have both a practical and creative gift idea.

Shaped Baby Wash Cloths

All new moms need wash cloths to clean up after their new babies. You can present them in a unique and creative way by turning them into shapes like lollipops, bunnies or flowers. Or, you can use them to add a finishing touch to a package by attaching a few on top of a wrapped gift.

As an example, if you made baby wash cloth flowers you just roll up several of them tightly and fasten it together with some baby pins, then tie a ribbon around them to make it like a bouquet. Take a few others and fold them up lengthwise and then roll to make it look like a flower head. Attach these to the “stems” with more pins. Voila! A cute washcloth bouquet! Be sure to use different colors to make it more special.

Breakfast in Bed for the New Mom

How about a basket filled with some things for the new mom to have breakfast in bed? Get a cute basket filled with foods like muffins, gourmet tea or coffee, little boxes of cereal, a pretty mug, etc. Add in some coupons for eating breakfast or dinner out too and make it extra special.

Towel Cake

Just like the diaper cake, you can make a fake cake with baby towels, bibs, and baby wash products. Just take a few baby towels and roll them up and tie together with some cute ribbons to form a round shape for your first layer. Then, adorn it with some sample sized baby powder, baby lotion, baby oil, etc.

Alex is a stay at home mom and content contributor for ez contacts. When she’s not writing for work, she’s writing for play (trying to finish her novel!).

Whether you are only tooling around town to park play dates and to the grocery store, or traveling hours away to visit the grandparents, having the right car seat can mean the difference between a pleasant drive and a hair-pulling, crying-induced anxiety attack.

With baby in back and Mommy or Daddy way up front in the driver’s seat – and not exactly within arm’s reach – parents need to feel confident that their little one is safely secure and content.

The last thing any parent wants is to have a child in the car seat in the back seat who screams or cries during the entire ride because he is uncomfortable or just otherwise unhappy being buckled in. And worse, no parent can drive contently while worrying that her child can easily squirm out of the car seat, or that it won’t hold him in if there’s a crash.

While safety is definitely a priority when choosing the right car seat, finding one that is not too expensive is an added bonus to most families, given the current struggling U.S. economy. Depending on the style and brand, many car seats can cost hundreds of dollars.

One option many parents choose is a convertible car seat that can be used for several years. Many fit newborns and adjust to fit toddlers as they grow.

Below are three of the most affordable and safest car seats on the market today.

1. Safety 1st OnSide Air Protect

This convertible car seat sells for about $90. Other highlights include:

• Rear-facing for babies and toddlers up to 40 pounds

Having grown comfortably in the womb for nine months, when introduced into our world our babies grow before our very eyes, and we soon wonder where all that time went.

At birth, babies’ eyesight is really limited but soon develops into that of an adult’s by around 8 months old. Your baby will know your voice as soon as she is born (from spending all that time in your womb and knowing every aspect of your voice from the inside) she will soon learn to know your face, too.

Eyesight at birth

From just four days old your baby will scan your face and get to know your every feature and expression. Considering her eyesight is incredibly limited at first, this shows just how much your baby is willing to get to know you!

At birth, babies can see anything from 8 to 12 inches away, so roughly the distance of when you hold her in your arms to feed. To ensure she focuses on you, put your face near hers so she can focus with ease.

It’s not the physical make-up of the eyes which affect a newborn’s eyesight; instead it’s the brain’s capability of processing all the information which stops your baby from seeing everything at birth.

Newborns prefer black and white objects as they have difficulty telling colors apart at first.

One to three months old

Your baby will now be able to use both her eyes in tandem, which is something she couldn’t do at both (the reason for newborns sometimes appearing slightly crossed eyed at first). She can now track objects, focusing on toys and objects in front of her face.

Next comes the ability to tell colors apart from each other and your baby will prefer brights such as red, blue and green, so show her bright colors in toys to encourage development.

Four months old

Now is the exciting part: when your baby can use her brain to not only see the object you’re holding to her, but actually reach out and grab it. Her brain works in tandem with her eyes to locate that soft toy and grab it right out of your hands! Give your baby toys to practice grabbing, or she may just reach out for your hair!

Five months to seven months old

Your baby is now able to recognize objects that she has previously seen. Playing peek-a-boo is great fun as she will be able to picture the object and wait for its return! Lighter shades of primary colors will also be recognized at this stage.

8 months old

Your baby can now almost see to the level of an adult with regards to clarity and depth perception. She can now recognize people and objects she’s used to seeing even if they’re far away and will get to know those who visit her often!

All conscientious parents are concerned about transporting infants by car. That obviously goes double for parents of preemies. Indeed, from the time the parents of premature infants learn that they are, at last, going to be allowed to take their beloved children home from the hospital, the worry begins.

Of course, infant car seats and boosters are mandated for all small children in all fifty U.S. states and most other industrialized countries, although the details may vary to some degree from state to state. In California, for example, all children under age 8 or shorter than 4′ 9″ must be secured in a car seat or a booster of some sort. Very obviously, this applies doubly to very small infants who were born prematurely and obviously for much more than legal reasons.

Long before that big ride home from the hospital, be sure you have selected an appropriate car seat. Of course, at this stage of your baby’s development you are absolutely going to need one of the many rear-facing car seats on the market. These are generally agreed to be just about mandatory for all small infants. However, there is an additional issue. Since preemies are going to be smaller than average when they leave the hospital, not all convertible car seats are designed for them. Be extra sure to take find one with lower weights limits of quite possibly four pounds to match your child’s weight, as well as a low harness strap position. Experts suggest that it be no more than eight inches.

A complicating factor is that you’ll actually want to stick with a rear-facing car seat until your child is well into toddlerhood. The prior conventional wisdom was that children should graduate to front facing car seats at 20 pounds or one year of age. However, in the spring of 2011, the American Academy of Pediatricians looked at new evidence and strongly argued that parents should wait another year at least. Experts argue that the new evidence indicates that children may be substantially safer if they remain rear facing for as long as possible.

Once your preemie car seat has grown too small, you should therefore very definitely consider finding one with a higher weight limit. Some go as high as 45 pounds. While many parents tend to resist this — they see front facing car seats as a right of passage and believe that their children want to face front — all the evidence indicates that the rear facing seats are safest.

Indeed, according to a March 2011 article in The New York Times, EMTs have an extremely harsh but also very instructive name for rear facing car seats: “the orphan seat.” They really do appear to be the safest spot in the car. Although parents often complain the seats look less comfortable and worry that the position makes broken legs more likely for larger children, pediatricians argue that simply isn’t the case. In any event, the life saving features of rear-facing seats should outweigh most other considerations.

What you are expecting when you are having twin babies, you will get fattier by gaining more weight or you will need extra vitamins and be carefully observed by your obstetrician. Although the rewards of a twin pregnancy are dual, there are some anxieties in addition. You must learn the basic essentials about twin pregnancy.

Facts to be learned:

- There are basically two categories of twins that are identical and fraternal. Identical twins are less similar than fraternal for the reason that identical twins need the division of a single fertilized egg, which is very rare. On the other hand, fraternal twins arise when two separate eggs got fertilized by two separate sperm cells and establish in the womb at the same point in time.

- The probability that you will have twins is more if there is a record of twins in your family before. Fertility medicines also increase the occurrence of twins because they over and over again cause the discharge of more than one egg during ovulation.

- If you are pregnant with twins then you need to take more than 2500 calories every day. You will be advised to intake extra minerals and vitamins. Women who are pregnant with twin babies are easily inclined to some diseases like anemia, since there is a need of extra iron to maintain the good health of the fetuses. Your medical doctor will also recommend you to take some more folic acid for the good and well maintained health of your twins.

- The pregnancies of twins have an extra risk of premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, high blood pressure, uneven growth, diabetes and preeclampsia. Your medical doctor will take care of you for eliminating these conditions during the period of your pregnancy. There are some cases when Labor is longer than standard with twins but the real delivery is not that longer. Twin babies get born with difference of some minutes.

- When you feed your twins then you will need some extra additional calories every day near about 500 to 600 calories to meet the need of producing the sufficient breast milk without effecting any one’s health. Consult for particular support and recommendation if are expecting twins or you are already having them.

Some more cases

- If you are getting early pregnancy then it can make your Uterus more than normal for the time. You can have higher rate of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, sudden gain in weight during starting period. You can also suffer for too much Vomiting of Pregnancy.

- If you will have late pregnancy then this can result in extreme weight gain, you may feel Multiple Fetal parts, on examination you may feel more than 2 Poles, Amniotic Fluid can be excesses, uterine size can be large for the time.

Risks involved:

Eclampsia, Uterine Inertia, Anemia, Infection in Urinary Tract, Gestational Diabetes.

There is a chance of death of 1 baby.

It is difficult for the mother to Breastfeeding more than 1 child.

Risk of Preterm delivery is there.

Summary: Twin babies are very crucial case to handle for the mother. She needs to take extra care of her babies and her health too. Always consult experts if you are having twin babies.
