Apple Duo was launched on 9th September 2026.. too late and too little to offer anything unique.

Apple Inc starts in foldable phone after 7- 8 years it too late to catch up with others.

"बहुत देर कर दी हुजूर आते आते। अगर ढ़ंग से बतायें तो सेब मियां, सात से आठ साल बर्बाद कर दिए। सैमसंग और बाकी की कम्पनियां जमकर मखौल उड़ा रही हैं। यह फोल्ड कहीं आपकी रही सही इज़्ज़त की भी तह न बना दे।"

"You took far too long to arrive, Sir. To put it bluntly, Apple, you’ve wasted seven or eight years. Samsung and other companies are having a field day mocking you. This 'Fold' might just end up folding away whatever little reputation you have left."

As the buzz has it on the internet.. Apple Duo is getting memed for all the good reasons.. 1st being so late.. 2nd the humongous price tag.

The best usp is highlighted prominently is vieweing photographs and images on bigger duo screen.

If the primary objective is to see big photographs and images..

One might buy a Samsung Ultra QLED Display Screen/TV for half the price.

and same for full size music videos or movie streaming. Infant, now you have portable .. affordable HD/4K projector available.

These, are the initial impressions.. as time passes this post may be get updated with relevant material.

1st impression of Awesomic Big Road Blocked experience!

There is a new age (as claimed by them) design platform or service called awesomic.com (I got to know about them via daryl ginn's portal: Godly Job Board) for my surprise this web platform is financially backed by Y combinator

I had a big bad experience with the so called new age design service enablers. They showoff so much in visual design and copywriting but beneath the skin it's a pretty bad experience for the visiting talent or candidates.

"Initially, I was so thrilled that finally I discovered such a useful service where... there is a chance to get some interesting freelance work without too much of hassle. "

So, I set out to explore the platform visually and by the copywriting it looked desirable so I made my mind to register in the talent section.

Then, only all the makeup came apart! Here is my user journey... see the blocks written below in bolds.

1st impression of Awesomic Big Road Blocked experience!

I excitedly, read their Terms and conditions... filled all the signup and application details.... then I get this message.

Okay, no problem! ... but you just wasted my hope, time and energy.

Since they have given an Email address to contact... I thought to give them some feedback via Email.

So, written to them... and get this Gmail system delivery message.

Most probably their email ID provided in the message is just a dummy or they haven't paid their Email provider the subscription fees.

Do you want to know what exactly I had written in the Email?

"Hi Team awesomic,
your portal and service is unique with a very friendly tone of voice in the copywriting.
You are working with AI algorithms but I just wasted 30 to 40 minutes to fill all the signup and application details.... then I get this message.

You should be able to tell the visitor applicant that your location is not serviceable at the moment... It's an annoying example of your portal's User Experience... If we put it straight, bad UX!
wasting time and energy of the visitor asking to sign up... fill the application then pop a message "we don't work with the location by now."

Thank you!

just thought to let you know
so that other visiting applicants may be saved by an annoying and frustrating experience."

Vintage name stickers from Tinkle Magazine

I found 2 vintage name stickers from Tinkle Magazine while sifting my old papers. I was wondering what to do with these stickers? Discard it or keep it!

I could not make up my mind due to it's interesting graphic quality... So I clicked some mobile phone photographs.

Then given it to my elder brother's kids. They liked it but not really that thrilled. New age kids have moved on to name stickers based on TV cartoon shows and android mobile games.

In our childhood days Tinkle comics or we can say fully illustrated magazine was considered into a top class kids magazine.

Parents and teachers didn't object to this particular comics magazine because it carried high quality content with the objective of kids development.

NOTE

These quotes and photographs are taken from an old calendar. I was rearranging some of the documents and papers and found this partially torn calendar. The words really resonated with me and quality of photographs seemed rare so I clicked photos via my phone and restored the image quality by tweaking the parameters. I hope this will be useful to others.

I wonder, if he is able to get any profit from this venture? Or its pure passion and love of comics??

Nonetheless, readers are not complaining. Infact, I am really happy somebody has guts to follow the dreams and do good for comics lovers.

A brief background about the comic strip for those who are new to Garbage Bin Comics:

This strip tells it's story and gags thorugh a cartoon character of a child called Guddu, set in 80s India.

Guddu and his family represents a middle class Indian life of that time and takes us to our childhood days.

Brilliantly played by Saloni... though a fictional character but appropriate observation and a voice to the marginals on a medium which is over occupied by middle-class and a show off mind set.

Snapchat Bitmoji TV

I had downloaded Snapchat long time back but never got down to use it. My sister's kids use it all the time and so 2-3 month back I started to respond to their snaps. It is full of video filters and illustrated avatar.

Creating and customising the avatar was fun. It has a huge numbers of variables available to make your avatar look like you...(at-least, the way you imagine yourself).

It was delightful experience when I was typing a reply to a chat... as soon as I typed hi... It suggested many stickers with my avatar saying hi... also there were stickers with the friend's avatar.

I guess that's why Bitmoji are so popular.

Recently, I discovered the new Bitmoji TV feature in Snapchat. It's fascinating to see your cartoon self featuring in animated episodes.

Hand Hygiene during Covid-19 pandemic

Washing hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and water is suggested in awareness campaigns of COVID-19.

apart from it we should add few more points regarding hands hygiene.

1- please avoid long nails during these times.

2- if you wear rings and ornaments in your fingers please, remove them and wash your hands... plus sanitize your rings (अंगूठी) as well.

3- same goes for bracelets, wrist bands, kada etc.

* People who chew their nails and kids who suck on their thumbs need to be extra careful.

1+ OnePlus TV looks promising

September beginning Motorola introduced it's TV ... and in the September end OnePlus is about to launch its Television.

It seems many mobile phone manufacturers are now keen on innovating Television and expand their market beyond the heavy competition of mobile segment.

This is a good news for TV, as all the traditional OEMs have been focusing on mostly screen display and size, it's time when newer players come into this arena and emphasise more on user experience. TV consumers is exposed to using smartphones, laptops and when they reach to TV it lags behind in the expected experience and power.

Their remote with built in Google assistant and USB slot.The USB slot... I am guessing... it maybe for charging the remote + connecting the phone for faster media share or inputs.

Specially, their integration of text and touch inputs via mobile phone.

Quick switch between TV apps using phone is fantastic

Instead of using 2 remotes, people can use just one. Just that it is slightly longer than ordinary remotes but people will live with it."

These are some chat bubbles from the conversations where few designer friends discussing about Motorola TV remote.

The very 1st impression looking at the image is similar for me as well.

It's difficult to gauge actual experience just by looking at the image but one can guess a few things.

● It seems they have put down maximum amount of interaction on hard key of remote for instant action/control instead of on-screen moving around.

● This approach could be well versed with the audience who is already using multi buttons remote and...not just 1 but 2 because... another one comes along with set top box (STB)... which usually takes over the TV remote.

● or I might just be wrong... the number of buttons and size or the remote can also intimidate the user.

I have seen such remotes.. D2H set top box comes with such type of remote.. they have tons of buttons on remote... and non of them give you instant response...they have equal amount of on-screen UI to deal with.

So, a clear purpose should be set for approaching the experience. If you're going heavy on remote interaction then remove as much, as you can... on-screen UI interaction.

● remote works well with TV native functions like on-off, volume control and satellite channel switching. When it comes to current day Apps, remote has limited control. A hard button at remote might be able to trigger the app but navigating and playing the content depends on that particular app's on-screen UI.

dribbble's delightful 404 error page

Today I was surprised by dribbble's 404 error page.
They have used this space to their advantage. We have seen cute and amusing
error pages but dribbble's page not just full-fills required need but engages the user, further to explore the content dribbble is known for.... shots.

1- informing user that the link or page you are looking for no longer exists.
2- Not a dull or blank tone.

Invites user to try colour slider and see the shots populated in the form of 404.
if anything catches your fancy you can click the shot thumbnail and directly go to the work. it cut shorts the loading/logging journey for the user who drifted to dribbble site by chance.

some people might be in need of specific result... so they have given a text search bar.

action animation

Recently nike used some clever TVC using action packed stylised 2D animation. these ads really hit the target. in such a short duration only animation can convey so much.

In my earlier version of post there were links to those videos, now they have taken down them from YouTube. the series was called HYPERVENOM and the agency was BUCK.

Animated GIFs in a blog post

It has been always a big question to me, why does blogger not support animated GIF images?

all the great new website and mobile chats are having a fun time with animated images. dribbble.com and behance.net are a fine example.

anyway..

recently I compiled my conference room doodles in an animated gif format and I wanted to share it in a blog post so I looked for answers through a google search. most of the people suggested to host your gif images to a image site and get a link to incorporate in the post.

at the moment that seems to be the most effective solution. though uploading your gif images to a image site and then getting a link is a absurd and long task.

So I looked at the choices in front of me and decided to upload my images on google drive and get a share link.

to my surprise it worked really well. So I guess this is a fine way to jazz up a blog post with animated images.

I think Gfycat.com (a gif publishing site) is more handy than google drive link!

Animated stickers in mobile chats

If you have a smart phone then I am sure you must be having multiple chat apps on your app screen. In my opinion whatsapp, wechat and line are the main players at time. I had to download all three. some friends were on whatsapp and some on line and wechat. this give me a chance to test all their features. some give talk time some audio call and video chat.
oh, there is facebook messenger and google hangout also (I have not used them that much so will not talk about them)
one thing is common in all these apps that they all have a library of emoticons and stickers.
and what I feel wechat has taken the lead in sticker section. They have introduced animated stickers and they are really cool. mostly I used use these apps freely during the festival season with these animated stickers coming in my daily usage has increased.
I loved Vaibhav Studio's stickers done for Line and I think that was kind of turning point. when these apps started thinking of local content rather than giving same old clip art. now I see exclusively localized desi stuff on wechat and line.
Bollywood sponsored stickers have really good production quality. I loved stickers based on Bhootnath and Rio2 movie. This trend is catching up. you never know tomorrow you will see stickers from Bournvita or Dollar Banian.
there seems to be some real energy going on in this small space. the scene looks good.

Learn Fractions and get your concepts clear

The post title might be a little dull but this what exactly you will do with the App I am going to talk about. There is an app called "Tiny Fractions" published by "Tap to Learn" the company I am working with. This app simply is a gem when it comes to clear your concepts of Fractions.This is not a promotional statement. first you download it and play, and after that you do't feel the same, please! feel free to fill my comment box with your blasting comments. check it out on apple appstore .

Right now, its only on iOS. I wish it was available for the Android users.

Manoj Kumar and 15th August

I don't know how many people have written about this but I am sure most of us have heard Manoj Kumar movie songs on 15th August or 26th January. It is hard for me to celebrate Independence Day without these songs. I have fond memories of growing up hearing these songs in my school days. When you are a kid feel for country and respect for its freedom fighter is high. I used to get goose bumps listening these songs. Those were the days of VCR and VHS tapes. Usually on such occasions our school used to run these patriotic movies on VCP (video player). I remember watching Manoj Kumar's Upkar and Purab aur Paschhim it had a lasting impression on me for days the images form the films used to re-run into my head.

Manoj Kumar aka Bharat Kumar had spread the feel for the nation and ideals. In those days I was unaware that it's not Manoj who is singing but it is Mahendra Kapoor who is doing the task. Mahendra Kapoor's voice perfectly matched Manoj Kumar's image on screen. May be that's the reason they created such successful and memorable films.

Some time back I had watched these films again.(as a grown up now) and it left me impressed. I could admire and understand a lot of aspect of film and appreciate it. first and foremost I salute to the vision of the filmmaker for such great intentions and staying true to it. 2nd is the innovative and effective cinematography of V.N. Reddy (consider the times these films were made 1967-1970). Editing is one of finest aspect of these films. Done by B.S. Glaad (I tried to find more info about him but it seems there isn't much info neither a Wikipedia page) Art Direction is so apt and connected to reality. see full credits on Imdb .

This seven minute song sequence gives such a vivid imagery of India and I can not help but admire detailing done in this video. Notice beautifully captured Kashi, woman 's rope acrobat and Rasleela artist playing thaali as Chakra on his finger. V.N. Reddy use the same Thaali reflection in one scene to show in-camera and off the camera views in one frame. I bet this sequence is better than most tourism ad films.

On location shoot real farm, real plough and notice how Manoj wears "gamucha" a classic opening song.

I had seen Marcos Oliveira's Scientific Illustration about a year ago in a feature by behance called : illustrationserved. I was impressed by his subtle and soft colors and seeing him working on location with his sketchbook and watercolors. I had thought about sharing his work through the blog post. I bookmarked the site and forgot about it.(this is a habit, I keep bookmarking a lot of stuff but hardly go back to see my bookmarked list) any way here I am writing about it. good things always, stick some where at your back of mind.
I wanted know more about Marcos Oliveira and googled for it. The first thing which appears in the search is a professional mixed martial artist from Brazil of the same name. Then I found his blog according to profile description : He is from Lisbon, Portugal. Born in 1967 at Santa Maria da Feira

The Cloud Catcher mobile game

It was a pleasant piece of information I chanced upon. I was surfing the net for some visual research on "Art style and Games". There I came across a game called "a Little Turbulence" which reminded me a mobile game I was working on and was left unfinished due to fund crunch.
I felt a little bad because the game had the potential, if given the right push could have been a good play.
I moved on. almost forgot about it and was busy in new work environment, a different kind of set up.
I could not keep the discovery of ALT with me, I shared the link with my previous boss.
The surprise was from him, he sent me mail about the publishing of the game on both platforms iPhone and Android. Though the game they published is not polished, the fact is they got it out and the story is exciting.
and I like the music they have done. there was only a generic loop in demo version with place holder noise effects.

Times of India: a paper of advertisements

Is this me? or other people also think the same?? Times of India has become official paper of Advertisements. I am sure many other people must have similar thoughts. When I pick up the TOI from my door it is bulky, and this bulk hardly has reading material. Now a days I have to struggle through a lot of junk to find a news. My morning time is limited and I am into a rush to get ready and go to the work. whatever little time I have for news paper reading I only want to put into useful and relevant info and news. My attention span is wasted in wading through the visual chaos of glitzy ads, glamorous pics and luxury property ads.

Then there are days when you get half front page. What with this half cut front page? It might be a creative advertisement strategy but a real inconvenience for the user, when trying to sort out or fold the paper.

2 and half pages one small 3 column news to read

Things get worse when the festive season starts. from Dusshera to Diwali. Christmas to New year. It is ADVERTISEMENTS TIMES. there are special supplements of ads in the name of consumer connect.
Property Ads supplements' are evergreen. Full page ads were rare a few years back but these days full page is just not enough, you got to have full front and flip page and double spread page.
I wonder, have the rates for Ads gone down or all the other people become rich except the common man?
I sincerely hope, TOI people should keep a balance of good content and ads.(news and thought provoking article and that is the first and foremost objective of a news paper)

recycling plastic bottles the facebook way

It has been some time I have been seeing a lot of people in my facebook friend list are sharing pics of plastic bottles recycling. These clever solutions invariably get attention. Over a period, I collected a good number of these images (got a bad habit of collecting images). I tried a few of them at home; my skill with cutting plastic failed me. The end result was a crude product. I still feel this is a good way to start and make people at least think about recycling. So here are the images I have been talking about:

working for social games

I play social games. I am a regular player at Facebook Farmville.

Recently, I have been playing Karma Kingdom. want to know why? this game feature some of my art. yes, I am working with Asvathaa Inc. apart from mobile game design and art creation we are maintaining this Facebook social game.

We create seasonal release update. thinking up new assets, themes and quests. It is exciting and a lot of work as well.

Here is a image showing my initial attempts to get the hang of the game's existing unique art style. It's very organic and repeats the Indian spiral curl motif.
