The TV show Mad Men reflects so many elements of beauty-admiring Libra: the stylish fashions, artful mid-century modern furnishings, and handsome hair styles (including the half-moon beehive Betty sported in Rome).

Yet, it also provides us with insights into relationships, another Libran arena. In addition to giving us a lens into the partnership culture and role that women played in the early 60s, there are oftentimes great kernels of wisdom included.

“You’re not good at relationships because you don’t value them,” Roger Sterling says to Don Draper in the Season 3 finale.

In this simple statement, Sterling captures an important essence of the lessons that we can collectively learn in the next three years as Saturn transits through Libra. After all, Libra upholds the importance of the partnership, and Saturn helps us to do things right, to do the work that helps us make the lemonade from the lemons. What’s inherently important to being skillful at something, as Sterling points out, is to hold it with value, a stance for which both Libra and Saturn have high regard. If we are looking to be better at something in our lives—for example, our relationships—than cherishing and honoring them is the route that Sterling–and Saturn in Libra–would encourage.

Why is this relevant for today? Early in the day the Moon moves into Libra, the first time it has resided in the sign of the Scales since Saturn moved into Libra two weeks ago. The Libra Moon will be conjunct Saturn (as well as square Pluto), bringing our relationships to the forefront. Therefore, it seems that Sterling’s pithy statement may serve as relevant encouragement and insight for the day.

Today we may feel like we are superheroes who were just awarded with a new superpower—that of the fine-tooth comb. No, not for remedying tangled hair or wrangling in wayward locks. Rather, one that can help us solve problems by inspiring our ability to methodically sift through the details that present themselves. Our superpower can help us more optimally separate the wheat from the chaff, allowing us to uncover hidden insights that may have previously eluded us.

Today is an ideal day.

A day full of ideals, streaming with our hopes and wishes. We can witness how we respond emotionally when we are presented with opportunities for abundant joy.

Or,  if our hopes and wishes don’t come to fruition, it may be a day of I deal, as we reflect upon the ways in which we handle disillusionment.

It’s a day where we may see how we deal when what’s real does or doesn’t match up to our ideals.

Are there certain things that you really want to achieve today? Whatever your goals take the time to think about them earlier in the day, considering even writing them down as a commitment to accomplishing them. This exercise may be a helpful one to help ensure that you experience that which you desire today and don’t get pulled off course by other opportunities that, while interesting, may not necessarily fulfill your immediate needs.

Venus moves into Scorpio today from Libra, where she was since October 14. It’s an opportune time to reflect and appreciate what Venusian wisdom we may have gained in the past three and one-half weeks while this planet was in the sign of the Scales, where she expresses herself so graciously.

Today, with the Moon in Gemini and the Scorpio Sun conjunct Mercury, there’s a heightened energy for discussion, deciphering, and deliberating.  Yet, be sure to be as clear as possible when choosing the words to express your thoughts and feelings. And, if you are unclear as to what another is sharing, ask questions in order to be more confident that you understand their meaning and intent. If not, instead of you feeling like Miss (or Mr.) Communication today, it may feel like the day is strewn with miscommunication.

Have a burning desire to know the truth? The Moon in Gemini makes a harmonious aspect to assertive Mars today, inspiring our curiousity and ability to seek out information that can help us in our quest to more deeply understand.

Yet, with Neptune turning direct today (ending the retrograde cycle it has been in since May 28), it’s really important to stay as clear as possible so we can discern between what’s truly real and what’s a hope-inspired illusion. Neptune retrograde gives us the opportunity to tune into the deep coves of our intuition. Taking the opportunity today to reflect back upon the past 5-plus months to see what we have learned about how to access our wise inner voice so that we can more clearly “know” can be very fruitful. This exercise can yield insights that can be very valuable in the future.
