I grew up in Littleton, Colorado. It’s a city that has one foot firmly planted in city life and the other in nature. When I left it was the twenty-fifth largest city in America.
I then moved to the fourth largest city in America-Houston, Texas. The vastness and extreme speed of the city quickly overwhelmed me. Sometime I would feel like the city was closing in on me-it was too much for my brain to process. And it all looked the same.
This feeling is perfectly captured in the paintings of Amy Casey. Her chaotic paintings are filled with buildings and landscapes in obvious turmoil. Up is down, buildings are stacked on top of each other. They, to me, reflect the totally overwhelming nature of a large city and capture the way I felt when I first moved here. Amy’s art is beautiful and amazing, and I hope to see more of it in the future.

A Master: Kosai Sekine

Kosai is one of those guys that once you get in touch with his work, you instantaneously become his #1 fan.

He’s a Japanese short-film director, and doesn’t have an entry on Wikipedia yet, but has a website.

I saw his work for the first time a few months ago, while i was browsing modern Japanese culture. I bumped onto one of his videos - Maledict Car, a kaleodospic vision of Japan - and his style’s aesthetics grabbed me by the neck since then.

On the video below, Sekine talks about his short ‘Right Place’, an inspiring glance at a melancholic and obsessed life. After the talk we can watch the film.

I recently finished reading Shaping Things by Bruce Sterling. In it he speaks of spimes-objects that are trackable in both space and time using tags or bar-codes.
Squidder’s new Twitter Feed augmented reality T-Shirt takes us one step closer to a spime filled future. There is a bar-code on the front of the shirt that contains your Twitter user name. When the bar-code is scanned by a phone, laptop or similar device your latest Tweet will virtually appear in front of the wearer. Check out their site for more visions of the future. Cool Stuff: Time Sculpture

A while ago i saw a Toshiba advert, which uses a technique called ‘Time Sculpture’. It amazed and mesmerized me. Minutes ago i was looking for the same ad again, to post here, and bumped onto this time sculpture video:

Some research around this technique will be done, and the results will be posted here.
