“Hearts A Mess” is a beautiful video directed by Brendan Cook featuring music from Gotye. I love the song, the music, and the animation.

In the video, a pied piper character walks the Earth, calling on its strange inhabitants to leave the wasted planet and follow him to a new world. pictureDRIFT developed a concept that would enhance the dark romanticism of the track whilst feeding a developing curiosity in 3d character development and animation. Time-lapse photography was used to create the background environments.

Tiago Hoisel has done it again! “This has never happened to me before” is the title of his new master piece. It is a cartoon version of the character Davy Jones from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. I love the texture and all the detail.

Notes from the artist:
This is a cartoon version of one of my favorites movie character, it’s a personal work that I made just for a study. I painted all with just one brush standard and at the end I applied some paper textures to make a little dirty. Throughout the process I made some changes on the first draw, on the position of the legs and on the hands to make enrich the idea.

Here is a short film by Wujoco Animation. Wujoco Animation is a small animation team from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This short film is titled “Training” and features two super heroes fighting. This is the first episode of Wujoco’s project called “Defenders of Something”. The animation is very funny, so I hope they keep this project going.

When I first saw the first image I thought it was a digital painting using some technique to give it the transparent look, but these are actually real life transparent sculptures. These extraordinary sculptures were made by Korean artist Jin Young Yu. I really like her unique style, the transparency make them look like a ghostly vision.

“Vice Versa” is an animated short film where twins have a debate on how they change the environment, but in the end they find a way to share both of their views.

The short fim was created by Jacques Khouri, an animator and teacher from Montreal, Canada. (From the animator:) “This project was completed during my free time from teaching at SCAD and was produced with a small portable computer.”

Here is an awesome video/3d animation created by Peter Roe. He shows some “behind the scenes” pieces in the video, so you have an idea of how the work was made. I thought the corridor with the graffiti in the walls was real.

I use 3 main software packages for making the work, XSI for Modelling, Photoshop for texturing and 3D studio Max for rendering. … in terms of time, I would say it would condense down to about 6-9 months of work. I worked on these pieces on and off in my spare time over the past couple of years so it’s hard to know exactly how long it took.

Black + White is a beautiful video directed by Chris Do featuring music from The Raveonettes. The video is a metaphorical representation of the sound of the colors black and white.

Black and White utilizes light and shadow to convey the opposing themes of the piece, including love/hate, life/death, young/old, daydream/nightmare, and ugliness/beauty. The narrative unfolds through an innovative mix of shadow puppetry and animation, as two-dimensional characters come alive in a colorless world, underscored by The Raveonettes’ haunting vocals.

Candy Bird’s seductive illustrations are full of emotion and feelings. She is a 26 year old illustrator from France. I love her style and the way she expresses through these illustrations.

Some of her illustrations appear in the book Pink Attitude, which was presented in an exhibition in Rome, Italy in 2008. The book contains artwork from 20 female artists including Candy Bird. There are 178 people in the picture,
all shot in the course of 20 days
from the same spot on a railroad
bridge on Warschauer Strasse in
Berlin in the summer 2007.

Only few of the people on the
photograph seemed to know I was
taking their picture.

I been using blip.fm for the past two weeks, and now it is one of my favorite web applications. Blip.fm is a social network very much like twitter.com but for music. Here are some of the things I really liked about blip.fm.

First, it has a very clean interface. It won’t take you more than 5 minutes to figure out how to use the basics. Although you have the option to search for music, I mainly just start playing the public stream and start listening what others are listening. I have been discovering music from all over the world this way.

Second, while you are listening to a song you like, you can add it to your playlist by clicking the star icon. This way is like creating your favorite custom music station.

One more thing I liked, is the feature of keyboard shortcuts. You can use the left or right arrow keys for previous/next song. So if you do not like a song you can skip it and keep listening something new.

Last but not least, you get to make new friends which share similar taste of music.

Even though these are just some of the basic features I like, it also has more advance features, like integration with twitter, friendfeed, tumbler and some other popular social networks. It also has a system to rate songs by giving “blips” which in simple English is just a way of saying you liked that song.

Extraordinary sculptures by Saúl Hernández (from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico). The “208 OSEOsidades” is a collection of 21 bronze sculptures of 21 centimeters in height. He uses the most common representation of death which is the human skeleton in a 1:8 scale replica of a real skeleton.

His sculptures represent the character in different every day attitudes, playing golf or soccer, thinking, playing guitar or making love. There is a character familiar to us in these astonishing sculptures. The absence of skin makes it relate to anyone, ignores whether if the person is fat or thin, white or black.

These sculptures are mounted on a base of marble, onyx and stainless steel. All the pieces are made in bronze with a wax of silver, a treatment of jewelry. The sculptures were personally executed by the sculptor in his studio Saúl Hernández H & M Foundry, located in the city of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Eric Testroete, after his trip to Japan ended up with 3000+ pictures he took, about 46 gigs of files. He made a video with 2700+ pictures of his trip. The video is titled “This is Japan” and is less than eight minutes in length. So, if you want to show thousand of pictures in a few minutes, this is a great way to show them.

We never went there with the plan to do this, but one night we were looking at the pictures so far. We held down the button to get through the pictures faster and we noticed it looked fairly cool. I figured it would be a good idea to make a video this way.

I used lightroom to crop and process all the images (its good at doing batch stuff), Métamorphose to rename the exported files into a numbered sequence, sony vegas to cut to music, then virtual dub to compress and scale.

The video is running at 6 frames a second. I originally took 3340 pictures, but doing the math there should be about 2760 images in the video. The camera was a pentax k20d and I brought an external hard drive to save what ended up being 46 gigs in raw files.

I finally took sometime to update the look of my website BlueDesigns. I had the design in photoshop and I just did the HTML and CSS. It is very simple but I think it looks nice. Please let me know in the comments if you like the new design.

The Fisker Karma will give you a range of 50 miles without using gasoline with the lithium ion battery fully charged. After that, the gasoline engine will kick in to recharge the battery and run like any other electric hybrid. This sporty car goes from 0-60 MPH in 5.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 125 MPH. The car will be in production on the 4th quarter of 2009 with an estimated price of USD $80,000.

Well, it has been 10 days after I installed “SI CAPTCHA” wordpress plugin and the hundreds of comment spam have ceased. So if you are looking for something to stop comment spam on your blog, I highly recommend “SI CAPTCHA” wordpress plugin.

It hasn’t been two months from when I started this blog, and the comment spam is killing me. I get about 100 spam comments everyday from automated bots (most likely), so I’m now trying the “SI CAPTCHA” wordpress plugin. This is an anti-spam method where you have to type the phrase shown on the image in the comments form. I really do not like when you have to type the phrase from the image but it’s better than having to check hundreds of spam comments. The plugin also gives you the option of not showing the image for registered users. Screenshots can be found here. I will later post how is this plugin working.

This is a nice web application that lets you bookmark pictures you like from any website. This is quite helpful for when you like a picture, but you do not want to download it to your computer.
