Android app development companies are busy creating new apps every day, which are showing up in the Droid Market place for free or low fee-based downloads.

Existing Android-based manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC and Motorola will be joined by in the next couple of months by Samsung Erickson and LG Electronics. Furthermore, Android developers will be ramping up their production of a sleek new handset so that by 2012, Android smart-phones will no doubt be the second-largest smart-phone platform worldwide with an estimated 18 percent of the market, second only to Nokia – the cell phone that started it all; this according to Gatner.

Leading the way is the Motorola Droid – a hybrid of the Android – which is available through Verizon Wireless. Flurry, an app analysis firm, Verizon sold more than 250,000 Droid devices the first week of it’s availability in addition to being named Time magazines top gadget for that year. Android app development companies were ecstatic over such news.

Nexus One is Google’s entry into the smart-phone sandbox and it is available through Google directly or it’s partner, T-Mobile and they sold around only 20,000 the first week they were available – according to Flurry. As Google adds more wireless operations and revs up their marketing campaigns, sales for the Nexus One are sure to grow.

Apple iPhone has brand loyalty and that may be just what the Android needs and by pairing it with Google, the Droid may find its followers. In order for the Android, in any form to be competitive, it needs to develop more apps. Currently there are over 100,000 apps for the Apple iPhone and only 20,000 for the Droid Market place.

A personal injury lawyer, Florida, who also represents DUI clients, remarks that many cities and states allow DUIs to pile up before the person is slapped with any jail time or unless they have killed someone while drinking and driving.  In Wisconsin for example, in order to enact tougher penalties on drunk drivers, for people convicted of seven or more DUIs, which will be placed in prison for an amount of time to be determined by the judge.  This prompted Mothers against Drunk Drivers to say that Wisconsin is a state in deep denial because the first DUI offense is nothing more than a civil penalty.

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers or MADD are strong proponents of the ignition interlock systems in which the driver must basically take a Breathalyzer test before the ignition of the vehicle will start up. it matters not whether the person has been drinking beer or wine, it matters the amount of what they have been drinking and if the ignition interlock system detects anything near the .08, or if it’s set at .04 or anywhere in between, then the vehicle will not start and a driver must call a cab or find another way home.

According to a Boca Raton personal injury lawyer, there is no one single thing that will deter people from drinking and driving, however a tougher law if they are caught is a step in the right direction.

According to the iPhone app programmer and others who were quoted in the MacWorld interview piece, Apple has “not rejected Google Voice application and continues to study it.”  The article goes on to suggest that the Apple Company is worried that the Google Voice app would confuse iPhone users because it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhones core mobile telephone functionality.  The fact that “Google Voice bypasses the phone’s own Visual Voicemail and transfers iPhone contacts to Google server presents several new questions and issues” . . . that the company is still considering at this time.

But if you are worried that Google Voice may not find a place in the smart phone business, don’t be because Google Voice will be featured in the new Verizon smart phones called the Android Series set to debut sometime in the fall or early winter of 2009.

The interview in MacWorld also gave some insight into the App Store’s approval process.  Apple stated that most rejections are due to bugs found in the applications and approximately 20 percent of apps that are submitted more than one before they are accepted. The company admitted they have received about 200,000 submissions and approximately 8,500 new applications and updates per week.  Although Apple has nearly 40 full-time reviewers, they continue to advertise for iPhone developers for hire.  Each new app is studied by at least two reviewers before given the okay for the refusal to be placed in the app store.

Additionally, Apple wants to make sure that people know that AT&T had nothing to do with the non-approval of Google Voice.  A memo stated that “Apple is acting alone and has not consulted with AT&T on this matter.”  This is not to say that AT&T does not have anything to do with other app rejections.  Apple’s statement clearly indicates that the company is contractually obligated to ban voice-over-IP phone apps.
