How To Create A Facebook Fans Page For Your Blog

To keep in touch with your readers effectively every blogger should have a Twitter account and a Facebook fans page to promote your latest blog posts.

A few days ago I decided to create a Facebook page for PimpMyWordPress.com. It’s an easy way for Facebook users to keep in touch with your latest blog news, videos, photos, latest tweets etc…

Unfortunately Facebook doesn’t make it that easy when it comes to creating a fan page so that’s why I decided today to come up with this tutorial.

Step 1

On your Facebook page footer click on the Advertising link.

Step 2

On the Advertising section select the Pages tab on the top

Step3

On the Pages section select the green button Create A Page

Step 4

Select Brand, Product, or Organization –> Website.

Type the Name of your Fan Page and click on the Create Page Button and your Fan page will be created.

Step 5

Now you can start uploading your blog logo.

Step 6

Click on the Edit Page and start to configure and check all the settings.

Step 7

Now it’s time to import all your latest blog posts into you Fans page. On your Tabs click on Notes.

Step 8

Click on the + Write a new note.

Step 9

Next hover your cursor over the small icons on the top right and select the Notes icons.

Step 10

Then click on the link Import a blog.

Step 11

Enter you blog feed and click on the Start Importing button. After previewing the feed click the Confirm Import button.

Step 12

Now that your Fan page has been created it’s time to promote it on your blog. Simply go back to your wall and click the Promote with a fan box link.

Step 13

Now Select the Options that you want to include in your widget and then click on the + Other button.

Step 14

Now you can take the widget script and copy and paste the code where ever you wish on your blog.

Now it’s time to promote your page

There are tons of Wordpress users around the world and I always thought it would be nice to know where everybody was located. Well, now you can. A new website created by Oliver Schlöbe and WPSeek.com just came out to do just that. At http://wpworldmap.net/ all the WordPress fans can put their location, profile bio and share their Twitter handle. The site use Google map technology making it really easy to zoom in and out and move things around.

It’s such a brillant idea. Now with just a few clicks of a mouse you can see if there is are any WordCamp events coming up or see if there are any WordPress users in your neighbourhood -great for networking. By the way you can see my location here

Just finish up your new account registration.

Upload your image.

Step 5

Crop your photo to look even in the right preview box.

Cute Profiles plugin lets you display all of your social profiles links in one location on the right or left of your blog screen, thus saving you some space on your sidebar. What I like about it is you do not need javascript to load it- just CSS.

Under the settings you can easily enter your social profiles links, see below:

You can also decide to display the icons on the right or left side of your blog. You can choose the size of the icon and you can even lset up a nofollow if you wish.

A Quick Way To Post HD Video On Your Blog With VideoPress

For anyone who is looking for an easy option to publish high definition video on your WordPress blog without depending on others like self hosted video services (like YouTube) look at VideoPress. Owned by Automattic it offers an awesome video service. Unfortunately it is not a free but for only $60 a year they will convert your video to the highest quality and give you a great video player making it really easy for anyone to embed the video on another WordPress blog, or on any other website.

How do I start?

Quickly register a free account on WordPress.com. On the dashboard of your new Wordress.com account click the upgrade link and select the VideoPress add on for $60/year.

Your free account comes with 3GB of free storage but if you are planning to publish quiet a lot of videos, I recommend that you also purchase some extra storage (extra 5GB = $20; 15GB = $50; 25GB = $90).

When your purchase is done you can go back to your self hosted blog. On your dashboard click on add a new plugin and search for the VideoPress plugin. When it’s all installed- create a new post and you will notice a new icon along the Upload/Insert tab.

How do I add a video to my post?

After clicking on the VideoPress’s icon you will be automatically synchronised with your Video library on your WordPress.com site. Just select the video you want to publish. In the video info window get the given shortcode and simply copy and paste into your post editor.

Shortcode setting option:

[videopress xyz w=640] specifies the width of video to be 640px, while preserving the aspect ratio.
[videopress xyz w=640 h=360] specifies both width and height
[videopress xyz h=300] specifies the height of the video to be 300px, while preserving the aspect ratio.

How to upload my video?

Simply click on the VideoPress’s icon and upload your video (Support mp4, mov, wmv, avi, mpg, m4v) and selec your video on your desktop with the browser uploader. The maximum video file size recommended is around 1GB.

How To Create A Static Page For Your Homepage

In this quick tutorial I will demonstrate how you can easily create a static page for your homepage and a separate page for your blog on your WordPress website in just few clicks.

Go to your dashboard –> Pages –> Add new –> Create 2 new pages: one called “Home” and one called “Blog” and publish those pages.

Then go to Settings –> Reading

Under the front page displays tick A Static page –> Front pages: select on the drop down list your “Home” page and just below Post page: selecting the drop down list your new “blog” page.

Make sure you save all your changes.
