Stift Vorau was the mighty monastery we’ve just seen. It is outside Vorau proper. Now we are in Vorau’s own church, Sankt Ägydius or Saint Giles, one of the most unusual churches I’ve ever seen, with two connected rooms. The concept is that of a medieval rood screen, but rood screens are uncommon in baroque.

Ok, everybody moved aside or has left. Here’s the front-to-back view. Sometimes I try to even out the shadows (e.g. on the ceilings), sometimes I don’t. It’s a matter of seeing what I want to show or not. In this case I went for normal contrast.

A side-altar. The virgin Mary with her child, both crowned and surrounded by angels. Due to the correction of the verticals, the top is very dominant, but this plays well with the general impression you get in this ornament-heavy church.

And now we are in the church, starting with the ceiling. This is unusual. Normally, I would have started with a shot along the nave, usually with the 12-100/f4 at 12 mm, to establish a feeling for the room. I can only guess that the line of sight was blocked by visitors unimpressed by my ready-to-shoot posture 😁
