It's amazing what a difference a different angle will make to the composition, e.g. if you're taking a photo of a child, get down to their height, (or lower!) and get a different angle.
Same for flowers/macro, a nice Ferrari (not mine!) try different angles to be more creative.

You never know (unless you look out carefully and time things perfectly!) what's happening behind the photo you're taking. It's really important to check out if there's a tree sticking out of your girlfriend's head (she won't like that and it's a lot of work PhotoShopping or cleaning it off the image!)
But just sometimes, those wonderful moments... something happens behind your subject which actually ENHANCES the photo. Look at this photo my daughter's friend with her lovely pet, "Honey". Who should walk poast JUST as I was clicking the shutter? A nice 'echo' of a couple walking their dog, with good out-of-focus (we call that DOF - Depth of Field).

I hope this gives you an idea how to add that extra touch to your photos, be they portrait, landscape or even abstract... look out for the moment, or be glad, if, like in this case, it happens without you asking for it!

Took this a while ago, but just rediscovered it. It's amazing what a difference a few raindrops can make to an image. Next time it rains, get out your camera and get real close to some flower. Take lots of shots from different angles.

It's a decision: beat the duvet / blankets and get out in the early morning, cos "the earlybird catches the worm" or in our case, the best light.
Look aroound you, find the places that people love and associate with, get that special image and look at the result.
Made me feel good I made that effort at 8 a.m.!

We all love to win a game of tennis, chess, arm wrestling or whatever, and winning a photo competition gives us a real boost too, true?
Over the years I have entered about 10 competitions I guess and won about 3 or 4, but not made a thing of entering.
This blog has lots of info if you're interested, with other articles and tips which are useful.
There are some who are skeptical and say our best photos are gleaned for stock agencies and sold off, but is that a reason to not enter anything?

This won a competition several years ago in Chile for a local Tourism Agency.
