Smooth Christmas

Things seem to be going much smoother for the Holidays this year. Last year, we moved into our new house on Christmas Eve, so much of the season was spent packing, unpacking, cleaning, and dealing with several feet of snow and sub-zero temperatures. Now that we’ve had a year to get setup, re-situated, and back into our routine, the Holidays are unfolding with much grace and goodness.

Of course, there are several new things that seem to be helping everyone stay upbeat and stress free, including much less television time, more family time, and the fact that we used the Internet to get all of our shopping and stuff completed well in advance. We’re now all on auto-pilot and looking forward to some time off from work, our upcoming Christmas get-together, good food, and of course sharing a few choice gifts with one another ;)

Comfortably perched 86 stories above the earth on the ledge of the Empire State building, this well-fed pigeon accompanied my enjoyment of a glorious Manhattan sunrise.

Midnight at High Noon

One of my favorite relatively recent drawings, Midnight at High Noon was sketched out in a laboratory clean room with sterile markers and particle-free paper. The white noise of the ventilation system and lab instruments combined with full-body clean-room attire makes it easy to forget self and really dive into the act of drawing. Good times.

External environmental stimulus symbolizing a subverted paranoiac subconsciousness. Tiles that look like an upside-down crown, if you please. I totally dig grungy little chunks like this. I forget where I found it, and I suppose it doesn’t much matter.

Ugh! Seems I have been waay too busy lately working on my other projects. Decided to finally bite the bullet and take some time to post a couple new gems here at Perishable.biz. With tons of content in queue, I decided to post one of my favorite “retro”-style chunks, screaming with vengeance straight from the 70’s. Plus, to make it all sweet, an old pen-&-ink drawing I did of the Temple of Castor and Pollux. I think the drawing is better.

Drawing of the Temple of Castor and Pollux, an ancient edifice in the Roman Forum in central Italy. It was originally built in gratitude for victory at the battle of Lake Regillus (495 BC). Castor and Pollux (Greek Polydeuces) were the Dioscuri, the “twins” of Gemini, the twin sons of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leda.

Originally acquired by Scott Conley, this proper morsel serves as the cover for a fully-pimped mid-70’s guide to mixing a variety of popular alcoholic beverages. Inspired by the guide’s lush psychedelic graphics, Dead Letter Art cannibalized the Mixology booklet for their 21st issue of DLa: Mixology.

Vertebrae X-Ray 01

Scanned image from an original, full-size x-ray of the upper vertebrae and torso region of a patient in 1992. Delivering meds to the local hospital while driving taxi in the Summer of 2003, I convinced the radiology staff to fetch me a few choice x-ray scraps. They hesitantly obliged, and delivered into my chunk collection a sweet portfolio of around ten high-quality x-rays. Stay tuned for others in the collection.
