While writing a book, I’m doing quite a bit of reflection and jotting those responses down. And, in turn, refine them for publication. As such, I found myself with 8,000 words of recent writing samples to have ChatGPT analyze to suggest a style and tone.

Given that randomness exists, I ran the Extract Tone & Style Prompt five times to create a typical response spread. Then, I put those responses into the Merge Styles/Tones Prompt to create the blended style/tone for testing in content creation prompts.

Despite the final blended style and tone results being wordier than expected, my content creation testing produces more personalized results than before.

It’s definitely worthwhile experimenting with descriptive styles and tones to create a desired voice. Especially when you want to reduce your editing stress.

And while Midjourney creates more impressive images, I’ve long considered DALL-E’s results good enough. Plus, DALL-E can be automated; Midjourney can’t.

Yet, at this moment, I’m tired. I’m tired of the distance between my loving wife and great kids.

You see, I’ve two families. One in Taiwan and another in the United States.

And only twice in the past few years have they crossed paths. Only once in that same time were they together as a whole.

It’s not feasible for us all to live together. My wife’s youngest is still in school here. My kids are still in school there.

So here I am, on day two of another halfway-around-the-world trip to be with my kids in the United States. While I’m very blessed to have the means and support to travel as I do, I’m tired of it.

The people I love most live on opposite sides of the earth. Traveling every few months and staying for a few weeks each time sounds great.

And for a couple of years, it was. Four years later, it’s tough on the mind, body, and soul.

Mentally, I’m torn between a preferred lifestyle and love.

I thought turning 40 was rough with slowing down. At 50, I’m slow and don’t go any faster. Therefore, I’m stretched physically for what I can endure, traveling more than a day each way.

AI chatbots are incredible tools to help our productivity. Yet the best results come from us utilizing detailed prompts.

Yes, ChatGPT can.

Channeling my inner @thevirdas: “If Axelerant was any more global, they’d have to start adopting aliens!”

ChatGPT

Yet, just like a seasoned comedian, ChatGPT has to start with solid, well-defined prompts that lay the groundwork for a great joke. 

Analyze a list of jokes content for quality using heuristics to eliminate the lowest percentage.

But the process continues beyond there. To single out the funny jokes from the flops, we guide ChatGPT to use certain heuristic aspects in the prompts.

1. Loosely group the content by similarity.
2. Use a heuristic approach to define the content quality based on the following criteria:
- Joy.
- Uniqueness of the content.
- Clarity of the content.
- Relevance to the subject.
- Other appropriate factors.

Joy is the heart of humor, to spark laughter or a giggle. ChatGPT assesses joy by predicting how the audience will emotionally respond. 

Originality is crucial in humor, as important as the punchline itself. ChatGPT sifts through the content, looking for fresh and unexpected patterns to ensure the jokes deliver a surprise. 

Clarity is vital to a joke’s delivery. ChatGPT ensures the joke is straightforward and easily comprehended.

Then there’s relevance: no winter jokes in summer. ChatGPT considers the audience’s context, timing, and preferences when crafting jokes.

And that’s not all. ChatGPT also considers appropriateness, cultural sensitivity, and language proficiency when deciding on joke quality. 

3. Order the content by highest quality first.
4. Remove the lower 33% quality content.
5. Display the "kept" content by highest quality ordering.
6. Display the "removed" content by highest quality ordering.

So, the next time you find yourself chuckling at a joke delivered by ChatGPT, remember there are some sophisticated people and technology behind that laughter. 

And isn’t fun enough a reason to share a laugh?

I was especially curious because I had experimented with bulk handling of content generation and upload for July and August.

My finding is that I have to be more selective about content for social media platform audiences. And I must relax my belief that posting once or more every day is required.

For comparison, my unprofessional persona posts four times daily across platforms to different audiences. And those interactions don’t compare to ImMichaelCannon.

Meaning, to engage the right audience, I must care about them.

Smart laziness.

While I knew I must change, I needed to figure out how to adjust my channel publishing without time lost to deep research.

And so I turned to ChatGPT to help, and once again spent more time figuring out what question to ask.

Before my final prompt below, I asked a few generic questions to get ideas about crafting a great framing of my context.

How does content based on the hashtags "#Automation, #AxelerantLifestyle, #Empowerment, #MentalHealth, and #RemoteWork" align best with the audiences of these social media networks "Facebook Page, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube"?

In return, I get an incredibly helpful response to guide topics to channels and why, plus ideas about how.

By combining platform usage with my daily topics:

While ChatGPT has a September 2021 data cut-off, my topics are from before that point in time. Therefore, I can reasonably trust ChatGPT’s responses to keep me moving forward.

With the above prompt demonstrated to be helpful, I know how to quickly adapt to future changes in my topics and platforms.

Looking back.

Six months ago, I was adamant about not using AI much because it wasn’t my voice. However, I’ve since realized that AI is a tool that helps us get the most out of whatever we do.

Please be open to letting AI empower you. And use Custom Instructions to ensure your voice.

And that’s incredibly useful to have first-round responses closer to your wanted outcomes.

For example, asking As me, write a social media post introducing Axelerant without Custom Instructions leads to a very impersonal response.

Yet, asking the same thing and Custom Instructions are included, the following response is a world of difference.

Custom Instructions have a 1,500-character limit each for context and response guidance. And while that doesn’t seem like much, it’s a feature to keep ChatGPT focused.

While working towards that first prompt, I ended up with several itineraries and wanted to combine them.

Once compiled, I wanted to add a unique daily experience.

Thank you for the singular itinerary.

For once each day, suggest a unique new experience beyond going someplace. For example, a food or drink to try or a place to do or learn something.

However, a new itinerary was given, so I merged the new with the old.

Please combine the previous itinerary and suggested experiences together.

While feeling pretty good about the planning and wanting more details to help my wife make decisions, I asked.

For each city and activity, please add a description.

However, I lost daily details. Also, I began feeling cumbersome with copy and paste of the itinerary as my refinements drew on.

So, I saved the primary itinerary as a plain text file and used ChatGPT 4’s code interpreter to upload the information when asking for more details.

As a romantic travel agent, for the uploaded itinerary, add to each day a new experience, like something to eat, drink, do, or learn.

For each city, add a description.

For each place, add a description.

For each activity, add a description.

Wowza, impressive ideas, and why do them.

In hindsight, I botched that prompt.

The response ended up being more of a city-based reference. Also, while the suggested links worked, they weren’t specific enough for me.

For example, the Porto Wine Cellars link is for visitportoandnorth.travel than porto.travel/port-wine-cellars.

Therefore, I manually merged the information, found informative links, and shifted to inline referencing rather than a separate section.

However, here’s a possible prompt rewrite for adding URLs within the itinerary.

Wrapping Up

Within a few hours of effort, I created an adventure for Huan and me while learning much about Portugal and Spain. And the suggestions stayed relevant, such as walking around, not driving.

ChatGPT has prevented days of headaches and stress in creating a travel plan to kick off deeper discussions and feel excitement.

When I give myself the freedom to be curious and dig deeper, ChatGPT is an incredible educational tool and productivity enhancer.

Boy, oh boy, was I surprised by the answer.

Stepping back, the intent was to SELECT A, B, C GROUP BY A ORDER BY C DESC. Where A is email, C is a date, and B is a number. In SQL, no problem; for Google Sheets, a significant problem.

However, that’s a single result response to the most recent information.

Not being daunted, I let ChatGPT know I would like the latest entries for all of the emails, not a single result.

ChatGPT responds, letting me know about Google Sheets’ difficulty handling this, yet here are a few formulas to get what’s desired. And it’s what’s in the procedures that I learned something new.

1. Get Unique Emails: =UNIQUE(A2:A) Put this in, say, cell F2. This will give you a list of unique email IDs.
2. Get Latest Date for Each Email: =ARRAYFORMULA(IF(F2:F="", "", VLOOKUP(F2:F&" ", {A2:A&" ", B2:B}, 2, 0))) Put this in, say, cell G2. This will get the latest date for each email.
3. Get Full Data for Each Email and Latest Date Combination:
   excel =ARRAYFORMULA(IF(F2:F="", "", VLOOKUP(F2:F&" "&G2:G, {A2:A&" "&B2:B, A2:C}, {1, 2, 3}, 0)))
   Place this in, say, cell H2. This will give you columns for Email ID, Date, and Amount for each email’s latest date. You can expand the {1, 2, 3} to {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} if you want the Currency and Reason columns as well.

Dropping the above formulas into my sheet and tweaking a little, I have a list of emails with the latest numbers associated, as desired.

Yet, with this solution, I recalled VLOOKUP can use a custom-built array to create an email and date string to compare for selection, which I do occasionally.

More importantly, and what really was the reason for all of this, is that VLOOKUP can return an array of values, not just a singular.

Despite all of my time using ARRAYFORMULA with VLOOKUP, I never knew.

Suddenly, in one data processing sheet alone, using a VLOOKUP array, the I drop five columns of formula processing leading to a faster-responding spreadsheet.

However, despite my online research, the best suggestions come from asking ChatGPT about my use cases.

For example, I remove similar results, leaving only the most interesting.

That 0.7 temperature offers several directions, yet the 0.4 temperature provides a tighter association with this article.

So for content variety, set a higher temperature. Yet, once you have a suitable temperature, we must work with Frequency Penalty and Presence Penalty.

What’s a Penalty?

A penalty parameter controls how creative or repetitive a response is. In effect, how often are there common, rare, or unique words and phrases in a result?

Frequency Penalty is about how often common or rare words are used, and Presence Penalty is about encouraging or discouraging the use of unique words throughout the text.

It means that when you look to AI prompts that speak in your voice, trend the Frequency Penalty into the negatives and keep Presence Penalty positive, yet close to zero.

And when you want to be expressive and try new things out, raise those parameters above zero.
