Made by Asics, this year’s Nimbus 13 is 3/4 of an ounce lighter due to the proprietary AHAR outsole. Engineer your run for comfort and efficiency through the use of asics’ Impact Guidance System which employs technology that takes everything into account. From a Biomorphic Fit Upper to a Space Trusstic System in the sole, the latest in advanced running technology is here.

If you have run in Nimbus shoes in the past, you will find the new model to be very similar to the Nimbus 12 with two minor, but significant functional improvements over the previous model: (1) increased side-to-side stability and (2) slightly lower profile heel. More on each below.

For anyone new to Asics or the Nimbus line in particular, it is one of Asics franchise shoe designs. At $120 plus dollars it is also at one of the higher price points, but worth it if you are a distance runner. The shoe is particularly well suited for those with a “neutral” gate and slightly higher arches – there is greater cushioning for the arches. If you are a high-mileage runner (running 25 miles or more a week) optimizing for comfort over absolute speed, this is an excellent shoe to train in to avoid injuries. Running on a treadmill or anything short of hard cement and you will feel like you are running on soft earth.

Looks-wise the new model is much more “fashion forward” with higher contrast colors than any previous models, which may be a plus or minus depending on your point of view. The silver-fire color is the safer choice, but the new white-blue combination, looks better in real life than expected.

The MR993 running show by New Balance are available in different widths so you can actually get the right fit. In addition the 992s (this model’s predecessor) is designed for runners with a slight pronate which I have. Stability is what this shoe does and does super well for me. I didn’t find that specification on NBs site for this shoe like the 992s, but it seems online sellers are still saying so, and I have no reason to believe my 993s have been changed either.

“Classic New Balance Men’s 993 Tie Running Shoes mean pure stability. Here’s superior cushioning and enhanced stability for mid to moderate overpronators. If your feet tend to roll inward more than necessary when you run, this New Balance Walker can help correct your motion and ease fatigue. This classic design comes loaded with technological features that cushion, stabilize, support and comfort active feet.”

A reviewer said the following and we can’t think of any way to endorse the shoes any better: “I have worn these 990s for many years now and this model just seems as good if not better than its predecessors. The only reason I buy new ones is frankly from natural wear. And I don’t mean wear that is obvious like frays or the sole is coming off. I mean MINOR wear on the tread (starting to affect ankle/foot alignment) and slight stretching of shoes fabric/leather (don’t get quite as good support). What’s is amazing is these shoes are built so well, that by the time I need a new pair for specific reason these shoes still look and feel great.”

Made In the USA

The 993s are Made in the USA and in the back of each of these shoes you can see the prominent USA in bold against an American flag. They are a patriot’s shoe and they are quite popular in the military. New Balance provides good jobs in the US. Yes they make less profit and they endorse fewer athletes than some other shoe companies but buyers are loyal because the shoes are fantastic on your feet, they are often touted as being the best running shoe made and the company is committed to local markets.

Brought to you by 10,000 Steps With A Pedometer.

The New Balance MR1226 is getting raving reviews as the running shoes of serious runners. They are incredibly light, with a breathable mesh-weave upper portion.

You won’t even feel like they’re on your feet. The technology behind the New Balance 1226 shoes and the materials used are what we like to call “space age savvy” and patriotic too! They made in the USA.

Even with the ultra-light materials, the rubber sole on the 1226 is very well-structured. These shoes provide tremendous stability under the heel and arch support, and great impact cushioning when running on the hard concrete sidewalk. The front portion of the sole is extremely flexible, with the very front toe portion actually constructed to naturally curl upwards slightly. The flexible front sole means that the 1226s do not need to be broken in at all, as the heel cup does not slip – which can be a huge problem for the serious runner in the form of blisters. There is so much padding in the heel of the 2011 New Balance shoes that blisters should never be an issue.

The Kayano 17 running shoe is a fit like no other as it’s been said ASICS built a shoe that virtually anyone would be happy with. This is extremely difficult to do given the various foot types which exists. With these on your feet you’ll feel as though you’re running on a sponge even when you’re hitting the pavement hard. The absorption and cushion are just that good.

The Kayano 17s are loved by all types of fitness seekers – heavy, light, walkers, runners, short distances, long distances. It doesn’t seem to matter what people are buying these shoes for, they are appreciated by all for their comfort, breathability, lightness, and structure where structure is required.

Brought to you by 10,000 Steps With A Pedometer.

The new Nimbus 12 Running Shoes are in for 2011 and they are an incredible upgrade to last season’s shoe.

If you are a loyal Nimbus 12 wearer, when you first see these in person you will notice two new changes. The flashy look and the asymmetrical lacing pattern.

The toe caps and portions of the shoe are shiny and look jazzier (to some maybe more expensive) than previous versions. The asymmetrical lacing pattern means that the laces follow an angle from the front of the shoe to the back, rather than the traditional parallel line (along the middle) from front to back. In theory this is to follow the contour of your foot more closely for comfort. Personally, I cannot feel a real difference, but I don’t cinch my laces very tightly either, and the tongue of the shoe tends to provide enough cushion from the laces. Would rate this as much marketing as a value add feature.

The real difference from earlier versions is evident when you put them on. Instead of your foot sitting on a traditional wedge of foam, your heel actually sinks lower into the footbed of the shoe. At first they feel almost a little big, like you are wearing a low top shoe that comes up to your ankle and is also one size too large. But your foot also feels like you just slid into a well fitted shoe – strange paradox that is a little disorienting…until you go for a run.

Running is where these really stand out. If you are looking for cushioning, these are the softest version of the Nimbus yet. Running on a treadmill or anything short of hard cement and you will feel like you are running on soft earth. Not so soft that you feel like you are running on sand, but soft earth – like a well kept grass soccer field. The clunky feeling that you felt in first trying them on disappears and they feel great. You can run many miles and your feet still feel good. On the flip side, if you feel that the cushioning robs you of energy, then would suggest another shoe.

Consider that if you are new to Asics you will might want to order 1/2 to 1 size larger than your street shoe and then get your favorite insole to wear with these for extra comfort while you run.
