Those Pearly Whites…

I know posting has been sporadic lately. Sorry about that.
I’ll try and get that back on track, but no promises.

Anyway, I was given the opportunity recently to try out Oral B’s ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide and tell you all what I think about it. This is a serious power toothbrush. It’s retails for over $150, but Oral-B is offering a $10 mail-in rebate on select models through June 16, 2012. What you get in the box is the toothbrush, charging stand and a small device that looks like an oversized MP3 player. But we’ll get to that later.

I’m not going to lie. I don’t take as good of care of my teeth as I should. They are all there and I brush regular and the color is pretty much white. But I could do better. I don’t floss as much as my dentist would like (9x a day). And my gums do, on occasion, bleed a little. That said, this power toothbrush was a welcome addition to my regimen.

So, the contents. The oversized MP3 player does not, in fact, play MP3s. What it does is while you brush, it displays the length of time you’ve brushed and what quadrant you should be working on. Then every 30 seconds, it pauses the toothbrush so you know to change quadrants. When you have reached the dentist-recommended two-minutes, you get a smiley face.

I’ll give you an update in a week on how it’s going.

Changing Gears Maybe…

So, hey, I’ve been thinking that I fancy myself a writer, but I don’t seem to write much. At all. So, would you mind if every so often, I throw up some word vomit here. It could be a snippet of some dialogue or potentially a short story or just a chunk of a novel. I don’t know. Whatever is in my head. What do you think?

FYI, there was supposed to be a poll right here, but that plugin appears to be broke. Just flipping neat.

This Just In: Kids Don’t Listen…

I know. It’s a shocker. Kids don’t listen.

The other day, I getting ready to get into the shower (you’re welcome, ladies, for that visual) and I heard Steak go into the other bathroom. I tapped on the wall:

Me: DON’T FLUSH!
Steak: OKAY!

I get in. Water going. And then suddenly, there’s a slight pressure change and I know what’s coming. JUMP! NOWHERE TO GO! ARGH! I’M COOKING LIKE BACON! AAAAGGHHH!!!

I’d like to try this exercise. While the kids are doing something like watching television or counting wholesale beads (don’t judge), I will yell these four sentences and see if they respond to ANY of them.

There’s a blue hedgehog collecting gold coins in the backyard.
I think there’s a Star Destroyer hovering over the neighbor’s house.
I have these $20 bills in my wallet and I don’t know what to do with them.
I’m thinking about building a chocolate cake factory in the basement.

I’m willing to bet three of the four would go right by. If I had to pick the one they’d definitely hear, it’d be #3 with the money. Kids LOVE the money. Too bad I don’t have any…

Spring is coming up (for this next post) and people like to get hitched in the spring. I get that. You’ve just come out of the awfulness that is winter and the world is so full of color and vibrant and such and such. So why not get married?

People ask me, ‘Patrick, what should I get the groom who’s getting married this spring?’ Okay, I never get asked this question, but for the sake of argument, let’s say I did. Look, I’m no expert on personalized groom gifts, but I can tell you this: get something for the dude.

Weddings are ALL about the bride. Why do you think EVERY dude in the wedding party is in the same tuxedo? Because if the groom falls out, everyone can take one step to the left (or right) and continue. The bride wears the biggest, loudest dress in the entire room. It’s all about HER.

And that’s fine. I’m just saying, if you’re getting him a gift, make it for him and not both of them. He’ll thank you years later. Also, give him a proper bachelor’s party. Don’t skimp on the ‘entertainment’. Just saying.

That’s A Lot Of Commenting…

I noticed this evening that since this blog was started, there have been over 5,000 comments. Geez, that is a lot. It didn’t seem like that many to me because most of my posts only get one or three comments. But they add up. And since I have over 1,300 posts, that number makes sense.

That doesn’t even count the 80,000 spam comments that Akismet caught.

So, in honor of my commentators, I posted a widget on the homepage in the sidebar that shows the all-time leaders on commenting. Of course, my friend Becca has the first and second slots, most likely because she changed email addresses at some point or something, but whatever.

There you have it. If you want to make that list, you just need to jump in and submit 66 comments and bam, Eric is out. Unless Eric comments. Then it’s 67. Unless he comments again. Then…you get the idea.

Fair warning: I’m going to crank out a lot of posts tonight. I haven’t done much real blogging lately and it’s frustrating me because I get these great post ideas while driving and have no way to put them down for later. I’ve managed to get a few of them into my phone, so allow me to dump them out tonight. If you read through a feed reader, this shouldn’t present any problems. If you read through Facebook, I apologize now for the flood that you are about to get.

I will try harder to post more frequently and with better intervals. Really. So sit back for some awesome posts about kids, money, apidextra reviews and maybe some talk about politics. Psyched yet!?!
