I’ve never been to Bacolod or anywhere near it. I’ve always had an aversion to Inasal also. (A very nasty experience left a disgusting taste in my mouth which up until recently could not be washed out.)

But I decided to give it a shot one more time. (I mean what kind of foodie would I be if I let bad food hinder me from discovering ultimate food nirvana?) So for dinner, I consciously made an effort to sway my friend to eat at Chicken Bacolod. (Ok so I didn’t really have to sway him since he eats there all the time!) We were seated quite quickly and well my friend pre-ordered for me. We ordered 2 paa (chicken thighs and legs) 4 orders of garlic rice.

I quickly glanced at him in bewilderment. He reassured me knowingly. (He just nodded and smiled.)

I surveyed the condiments right before us. I quickly mixed, vinegar, soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. I knew this would be the key to the taste. I had to achieve the perfect balance between soy sauce and vinegar. I knew this was the secret to the taste.

The order came within reasonable time. The rice was warm and the chicken was warm as well. Not knowing any better I quickly scarfed down my food.

I was pleasantly surprised with how the food turned out. Nothing like the last one I had. (Last one I had was undercooked and left a rust taste in my mouth.)

If you are looking for authentic Inasal, I don’t think Chicken Bacolod would stand up to your standards. It was a good place to get Chicken Inasal.

NEW PATAY GUTOM DISCOVERY: Lucky Me Baked Mac Instant Macaroni

Last Friday midnight, I went to my favorite 24hrs convenient store to get something to eat. I discovered the Lucky Me Baked Mac Instant Macaroni product. Since I am a fan of their Instant Spagetti, I decided to give this one a try and Lucky Me! This is a good find!

Lucky Me Baked Mac Instant Macaroni w/o the sauce

How do you prepare your Lucky Me Baked Mac Instant Macaroni? It is just as similar as how you cook your instant pansit canton. Boil the macaroni for four minutes with constant stirring. Filter the water and place the macaroni in a bowl/plate then mix it with the sauce. Presto! You have your instant baked mac!

Lucky Me Baked Mac Instant Macaroni w/ the sauce

I personally would like to give the people behind this product a round of applause. As I write this entry, more and more bloggers are getting curious about this product. The serving is just too small for Patay Gutom respondents like me, so I suggest that you purchase two packs so satisfy your baked mac cravings.

Presenting, the place where all chicken lovers should go – Manokan Country.

Manokan Country is the haven of Bacolod’s famous chicken inasal. If you love chicken inasal, then this is really the place for you.

I am a chicken lover and if you look at their menu, you’ll see that 99% of the food they serve there is chicken. I can honestly eat everthing there… well, maybe except one – can you guess what? >.<

Anyway, here’s what the inside looks like, this is taken from Aida’s.

And how do people in Manokan Country eat their chicken inasal? With bare hands!

Three months ago, I saw some teasers of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera at GMA-7 where they are in the beach chasing each other and showing their love as if its their last day together on earth. The viewers originally thought that the two will reunite in a movie or in a certain tv show. It turned out that the two are the newest endorsers of San Marino Corned Tuna products.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera in a new telenovela… NOT!

I am not a lover of Tuna products, but everything changed when I was invited at the bloggers launch of San Marino Corned Tuna last month. Not only am I impressed with their marketing strategy, but hey, the product is worth trying!

My verdict? San Marino Corned Tuna tastes as good as Corned Beef. What I also like about it is that it’s not really as oily as the other canned tunas available in the market. San Marino Chili Corned Tuna is also Marian Rivera’s personal favorite according to the representative we spoke with.

The people behind San Marino Corned Tuna is dead serious on beating the competitor that’s why they’re really investing on promoting their product through print ads, tvc’s and even online. If you’re a fan of Marian Rivera, there’s a possibility that you saw the following episodes of Darna and Show Me The Manny, where the actress is promoting the product:

Narda and Ding preparing Tuna Sandwiches for the orphans in GMA-7’s Darna

San Marino Corned Tuna is receiving good reviews as of writing and I can’t help but agree with them! I have my own stock of San Marino Chili Corned Tuna here at home just in case I need to eat in an instant. The product is available in your favorite supermarkets and sari-sari stores. It is available in 100g, 150g and 180g.

Ever had that craving for Japanese food but you don’t really want to pay for something expensive or actually dress up and dine out with friends? The answer? Sushi King. Sushi King provides fast food service at fast food prices.

Although the quality may suffer a little to someone who is really craving something similar to Japanese food and doesn’t really have the budget for it this is a good place to go. I know Japanese food and fast food don’t really go together but they try to make it work here.

We ordered the following:

Pork Tonkatsu

Ika Fry Bento Box

Gyudon With Egg

Osaka Maki

For fast food type Japanese Food I’d still try Teriyaki Boy over this. But for the price, this is a good deal.

Sushi King is located at Market Market, The Fort Global City, Taguig

For my Gyudon bowl it was about P89!

Anyone curious about our 4 Course Meal at the Pan Pacific? Until now I still can’t get over the unlimited drink butter and bread refills at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore. The whole course was great from start to finish. Let me do a rundown on what we ate and my feedback about all of it :

Marinated Smoked Tuna with Feta, Herb Salad, and Balsamic Olive Oil

I’ve been always a fan of seared tuna salad dishes. Pan Pacific’s perfectly seared and smoked tuna (perfectly coated too as you can see on the picture) tasted very delicious as it complimented with the strong balsamic flavor of the olive oil drizzle. Each bite is eaten best with the cherry tomatoes on the side, which are really sweet ones. If one wants a tine of saltiness, there are bites of blue cheese on the side. I love it and cleared the whole plate.

Light Cream of Asparagus and Green Peas topped with a Chive Mousseline

I was pretty surprised upon looking at the menu of our four course meal. This soup had a dominating pumpkin flavor to it than green peas. As far as I can remember I wasn’t able to have any bite of asparagus bits on my soup too…LOL. Anyway, this dish was well-appreciated even without looking at its name. Hehehe :p

Rosemary Marinated Chicken with Saffron Cheesy Mash Potato and Balsamic Reduction Mediterranean Vegetable in Mango Coriander Salsa Sauce

This was the biggest dish from all the dishes served to us. It was like eating 1/3 of roasted chicken breast topped on a huge mash potato layer. The mashed potato gave a lot of flavor to the dish as it had a really cheesy yet sweet potato flavor it is, the chicken was not as seasoned but cooked just right. Hmm..this was almost a perfect dish to me along with the top herbs, but there is just one herb that I’m not fond of which made me separated some of its bits on my plate- Wansuy. Ack, for me it did cut my enjoyment of the whole dish as I was happily savoring and chewing my dish. Thank God there were just a few bits of it on my dish, the herb flavor was just too strong for me than rosemary. Nevertheless I did enjoy this dish…even with all the chopping I had to do with the chicken hehehehe…

Praline Hazelnut Gateau with Rasberry Jelly

The dish tasted like a mix of chocolate mouse and tiramisu. It was served with fresh Strawberries, Rasberries and Blueberries. Suddenly I remember my farm at Farmville…Hahaha! Sorry for the Farmville Family Frenzy hahaha… :p It took me a while to finish the dish and finally eat all that Rasberry Jelly that had a strong kick to its flavor. Overall the dish gave great closure to the whole course. It was also great with some tea on the side.

This ends my share about what we ate at the Blog Awards and it makes me wonder about the other dishes that the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore serves. Truly great dishes indeed that leaves you filling and craving for more. I hope I can someday afford meal like this in a great hotel in Singapore.

Thank you Nuffies for choosing Pan Pacific and the 4-Course Meal.

Finally I’m back. I’ve been away from Patay Gutom for the past couple of weeks, to avoid conflict of interests, after PG got nominated for Bloggers’ Choice Award in the recently concluded Philippine Blog Awards 2009. For my coming back post, I won’t be doing a feat about fancy restaurants but instead, I’ll be telling you about the good news of what eating can do to help send poor children to school.

I was at Serendra last night to witness the launch of “8 to Educate”, which is a project of the Virlanie Foundation in partnership with eight restaurants in Serendra, which aims to raise funds for the education of street children. Each time you dineorder the special dish from any of the eight participating restaurants, a portion of what you paid for the food you ate will go to the poor children at the Virlanie Foundation.

The participating restaurants are: . Arama, Cav, Chelsea, Cupcakes by Sonja, Fu, Healthy Kitchen, Sentro 1771 and Xocolat.

Our gracious host and leader Mr. Timothy Tiah (one of the founders of Nuffnang) took us all out for dinner at Duck King located at Jaya One just outside Kuala Lumpur. It would be a chinese dinner. And it would be one of the best.

First to arrive would be the mapo tofu steak with seaweed or nori on top. The tofu was one of the best I’ve tasted. Nice and firm when you scoop it up but literally turns into liquid when you start munching. It was beautiful example of perfect chinese cooking. And then the main course started flowing in.

We had some deep fried Kang Kong which tasted alot like junk food snacks. That was gone quite quickly. The Peking Duck, Pork Belly, and Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet were all incomparable to anything I’ve tasted here in the Philippines. This was simply a divine meal. I didn’t know when to stop. With the absence of water or any soft drink to fill myself up, I just kept eating. It was beautiful. I am a big fan of duck. This meal was something. It was both unforgettable. We got to see the regular side of Tim Tiah. I admit I am a big fan of him and princess. (Audrey but no one calls her that anymore!) Thank you Tim for the food. It was one of the best I’ve had in a long time.

This is another blog post of what I ate at the Chinatown Complex in Singapore. Me and other bloggers were not really supposed to eat there because we were actually planning to look for a great chili crab place during lunchtime. It turns out there wasn’t any chili crab meal to find at the Chinatown Complex. :p

Charsiew and Wonton Noodles

I only limited myself to have a mazimum of 10SGD per meal and thank goodness! With only 10SGD I can eat what I want in adequate servings and quality-wise the food at the Chinatown Complex is great.. Again, I had another Charsiew meal in Singapore, but the difference this time is that the Charsiew is topped on noodles with some extra wonton side dish. The meal only cost me 4SGD and 1SGD for a soda drink and I was already full.

Inside the Maxwell Food Center

Honestly, what I can just say about eating at the Chinatown Complex is that the place isn’t that clean as compare to the other eating place- the Maxwell Food Center.
