A 67-year-old federal judge named Jack Camp Jr faces drug and firearms charges after an exotic dancer turned informant told authorities he used cocaine, marijuana and other illegal drugs with her.

In June 2010, Camp followed the informant to a drug dealer in Marietta to buy Roxycodone. He was also recorded in a wiretapped telephone call on Sept. 28 talking with her about getting together over the weekend to split more pills and cocaine with her, according to the charges. He showed up at a Publix parking lot in northeast Atlanta around 7:15 p.m. Friday to meet with the an undercover agent posing as the dealer.

When the informant told him she was worried about his safety, the judge told her, "I not only have my little pistol, I've got my big pistol so, uh, we'll take care of any problems that come up," according to the affidavit.

In a word, this geezer is a RASCAL. But for every rascal, there is a rascal trap. Somehow I feel that grandpa pimp nerd is going to be just fine though.

Surprisingly, "The Gentrification of Brooklyn: The Pink Elephant Speaks" is the first exhibition of its kind on the subject of Brooklyn’s gentrification, in that it features the work of 20 artists of diverse ethnicities, utilizing varied media including painting, photography, illustration, mixed-media, video, sculpture, poetry, music and theatrical performance.

Curated by Dexter Wimberly, some of the artists have seen their neighborhoods gentrified, while others view themselves as part of the ongoing gentrification process. My documentary work on Fulton Street will be on looped video display. Art imitating my life in progress, I conducted my last bit of interviewing today to flesh out something becoming of a cyclical narrative.

Words that really struck me on this interview on Fulton Street, came from my subject Subhi Widdiplo, a 33-year-old life-long resident. What he misses most about the old days? The old folks! It would be really interesting to bring the film project into one of the senior centers in Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill, and get the elders to interact with people in the neighborhood.

The Healer's early thoughts on Haiti

She wrote this email to me a few days ago, after I emailed her the Pat Robertson video where he blamed the earthquake on Haiti's "deal with the devil" to rid themselves of French occupation.

The Healer says:
Remember now, the 'devil' in Christian energetics is the SNAKE. The snake is the alter of Scorpio. My [cosmic] understanding of Genesis code based on the narrative text, is that Scorpio 'took over' the shift from the age of Gemini [6000 yrs. back or so] into Taurus: the paradise fruit-filled summer Garden/Gemini twins/adam and Eve.

The Protest-ant Lutheran instigator, Martin Luther, was also a Scorpio, who, amazingly, coined the phrase wine, women and song. Only to eschew all that for suffering and purification, once again confused about self-worth.

New Orleans is also a hub for Haitians, and is of course known to one and all for its 'dark' occult character. Mediums abound there, as does 'black magic' and psychic terrorism.

The water signs are the psychic channelers, particularly CANCER. Linger on that word. Cancer. Cancer is the mental water sign. Americans are drowning in cancers.

Haiti may be ruled by Scorpio, as is Brazil. Brazil is noted for its incredible sex powers and its incredible cruelties, like the police gunning down street kids like dogs. Scorpio and Sagittarius have the worst tempers, for different planetary reasons, and consequently provide plenty soldiers needing outlet for all that energy. The pact with the devil which Haiti made is chronicled in an oblique fashion in Dany La Ferriere's Down Among the Dead Men. They called up the 'zombie army' to get rid of their enemies.

Pat Robertson, btw, is an Aries blaster. March 22. Aries are the mental fire sign, they can make anything happen with that fire, creating something from nothing at their peak powers, and they are forever trying to PURIFY THE PLACE. In American ritual that means getting to the pulpit and blasting everyone for their 'sins'. Hitler was an Aries, hell bent on purifying the place. Vietnam, north and south, and Cambodia, are supposedly ruled by Aries. Fire power. Purifications. Genocides.

Anyway, once you get to King David [read it slowly, and read it again and again] you will see that places determine the energy of the people. And, with Saturn hanging around now into the Age of Aquarius, Mother Saturn has the big re-organizing energy.

Answer:

Yes, fresh aloe vera gel is a natural abortifacent, take it every day when sexually active and not wanting conception. Actually, there are MANY. I will have to sit with the internet, but you too can do the same by putting "natural birth control" into google.

However, the best is if the guy learns tantric techniques for sexing without releasing ejaculate.

How to turn any space into a temple of devotion

Answer:

2" x 1" bark of cinnamon, close to flat in curvature. This will be the base (large bark cinnamon may be available in caribbean markets)

Freshly grated cinnamon powder heap enough to fill center of base

Essential oils for added power. Today's mix: West Indian bay, Juniper Berry, Lime, 4-5 drops each

Hempseed oil as binder

Mix up the ingredients, mound them onto the bark, light the heap and blow out the flames so the embers continue to release smoke. Refresh flame as needed.

If you are in a place with a fire alarm (like a hotel room) it helps to run the shower on full heat and steam up the place.

Last week I got a surprise visit from my college creative writing professor. Back in 2007 she renounced worldly possessions, and moved to Dominica, where she has navigated a path, or rather, the path of a healer navigated towards her. By the end of the week I was making "heat" from her home-made hemp oil on my skin, and putting cayenne pepper in my socks. In any case, I thought it would be interesting to email random health/happiness questions and post what I got back. This is the first installment.

Question:

what can I do to get a bad feeling or 'poison' out of my mind?

Answer:
Poisons live in air, earth, water, but not fire. You gotta set fire to that poison quick quick quick: hot sulphur springs and deep tissue massage and serious aromatherapy while playing twister and laughing your guts out followed by disco dancing/wrestling which dissolves into VERY martial artsy-screamy-shouty-serpienty sex!

Oh, you wanted me to ask some other healer?

Look for essential orange or lemon oil [green planet (on Fulton Street in Brooklyn) has lemon]; look for high quality frankincense incense [actually Madina corp incense manufacturer is right there somewhere in Brooklyn...theirs is the frankincense-myrrah incense I buy in Dominica]

RIP Brittany Murphy

The untimely death of actress Brittany Murphy made me dig up this old press junket interview I did with her way back when I was a junior in college, interning at the SF Bay Guardian. Looking back, all the digs I made at her weight and drug use are sad, considering it probably contributed to her death. In the article I poke fun at myself as a "manic-depressive loser with nothing better to do than slam someone who is my age but more famous". I still kind of like my "who was a better dry hump, Eminem of Stanley Tucci" question, but man, was I trying to write for Vice or what. It's unsettling when someone dies young, and dangerous when consumers just kind of watch it happen, actively perpetuating unrealistic and unhealthy body ideals on young women who literally kill themselves to be camera thin. RIP Brittany, sorry for being such a bitch the one and only time we met.

Unique to the documented world of pigeon racing in Brooklyn, "Up On The Roof" follows pigeon fanciers of West Indian descent, who raise their flocks in rooftop lofts for beauty, opposed to competitive racing in Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy. This uncanny love for pigeons has formed a close-knit social club that frequently gathers at Broadway Pigeons & Pet Supply, their unofficial headquarters. Here the men stock up on feed for their ravenous birds, sell and purchase pigeons, share practical lore about murderous hawks and raccoons, and like all proud fathers, brag about the extraordinary nature of their brood.

Future edits of the film will follow three rooftop lofts of Flight pigeons in Central Brooklyn, where a large number of black West Indian immigrants reside. The next installment will open upon winter breeding season. Marty Richberg (the fancier featured in this clip), and fellow pigeon breeders “Doctor” Shawn Nakhid, and Anton the “Terminator” Fountain, are all Afro-Trinidadian Americans who attribute their bond and natural love of pigeons to their cultural roots and tutelage. Ancient Egyptians bred carrier pigeons as early as 2900 BCE, and pigeon flying was taken up as a hobby by the Nawabs in India post Mughal rule. During the transatlantic slave trade Africans were forced into bondage in Trinidad, and even after the British abolished slavery, they continued to transport indentured servants from India to Trinidad.

For Marty, born in NY to a Trinidadian father and black mother from the American South, flying pigeons has become a part of his historical identity, obfuscated by the crime of slavery. Unlike Shawn and Terminator who began flying pigeons as children, Marty only started this past year, and already his flock has grown to 300 birds. Shawn, who began raising pigeons in his native Trinidad, and Terminator, a Brooklyn native who started under the tutelage of a surrogate father, both advise Marty on best pigeon practices when they politic at the pet store.

This past Summer I began working on a documentary about the gentrification of Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill, from the perspective of life-long residents, artists, and small business owners entitled “Fulton Street”: http://vimeo.com/6816546. Living in the same neighborhood as Marty's birds, I have long admired his flock. I thought a pigeon loft would add an aesthetically beautiful element to the film, which is also a tool for historical preservation of Central Brooklyn. As I began filming Marty's loft at Fulton and Washington Ave however, I realized that this story and it's colorful players, both human and pigeon, was itself a fascinating documentary I wished to pursue. While engaging the core issue of gentrification and culture in “Fulton Street”.
