His seriousness in training for the much-awaited rematch with WBO welterweight champion Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on April 12, prompted Pacquiao to beg-off from standing as principal sponsor at the wedding of "Bai" Elorde, grandson of the late world junior lightweight champion Gabriel "Flash" Elorde in Manila on Wednesday afternoon. Koncz said Pacquiao had requested close friend and Ilocos Sur governor Luis "Chavit" Singson to represent him at the wedding.

WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr. will face a dilemma when he squares off against Manny Pacquiao for the second time on April 12. Atty. Ed Tolentino, veteran sportscaster and boxing analyst, said the undefeated American will have to decide if he should brawl with Pacquiao or duplicate the same hit-and-run tactic that he used during the first fight. “In the rematch, will he stand up and fight? Or will he adopt the same hit and run strategy?” asked Tolentino in an interview on ANC Hardball Wednesday night.

Tolentino has no doubt that a hit-and-run style will be Bradley’s best chance against Pacquiao. “It's not necessarily popular, but it actually gives him a better chance against Manny Pacquiao. Because toe-to-toe, Manny Pacquiao will take out Timothy Bradley,” he said. The two boxers first squared off in June 2012, with Bradley winning via a controversial split decision.

The result didn’t sit well among fight fans, forcing the American boxer to reclaim his pride through successful bouts against Ruslan Provodnikov and Juan Manuel Marquez. “He conquered Juan Manuel Marquez, he conquered Ruslan Provodnikov to drive home the point that he can box and brawl,” said Tolentino. “But only against Pacquiao can Bradley really carve a name for himself.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. picks WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be fought at a catch-weight of 152 lbs. Mayweather is giving Canelo an extra 1.5 lbs. Good job Mayweather for agreeing to take the fight. He probably didn’t want to face a ton of criticism by his loyal boxing fans that he’s ducking the 22-year-old Canelo, even if he has the perfect right to choose not to fight the light heavyweight-sized Canelo.

Who would blame Mayweather for not wanting to fight a guy that weighed in at 172 lbs in his last fight like Canelo did recently? Mayweather weighed only 146 the night of his last fight on May 4th against Robert Guerrero. That’s a 26 pound weight difference between Mayweather and Canelo. Mayweather is showing a lot of courage to fight a guy that should be fighting at middleweight or better yet, light heavyweight.

I like Mayweather’s chances against normal-sized junior middleweights, but Canelo is more like a light heavyweight/super middleweight that is able to drain down to 154 [junior middleweight] and use that extra size after he rehydrates to crush his lighter opponents. Pacquiao booked a flight to US to finalize Marquez fight

Manny Pacquiao has already booked a flight to the US to iron out the final details of his impending fourth faceoff against Juan Manuel Marquez. According to his confidant, local boxing promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud, the Filipino boxer is set to fly to the US on Friday to meet Top Rank executive Bob Arum.

“Aalis siya bukas ng gabi,” Salud said in an interview in ANC’s Top Story. “Pagtungo siya doon para pag-usapan yan (Marquez fight).”

Salud said the reason Pacquiao is leaning on another ring tussle with Marquez is the pay-per-view factor, noting that the Filipino’s fight against Timothy Bradley had fewer pay-per-view buys compared to the Marquez bouts.

“Kasi ang laban nila ni Marquez [last November] ang pay-per-view nila ay umabot ng 1.4 [million],” said Salud.

Aside from Bradley’s lack of marketability, Salud said the American boxer is likely to demand a higher purse now that he won the World Boxing Organization welterweight title. In his split decision victory against Pacquiao last June, Bradley received a guaranteed purse $5 million. “E nag-champion siya kay Manny, kung hihingi siya, doble na 'yon,” said Salud. Fight fans would like to see another Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 fight and this could hike the Filipino’s earnings, said Salud. Salud, however, admitted that there’s a downside in accepting the Marquez bout.

But the Pacquiao and Cotto camps could not agree on a catchweight, and Cotto eventually decided to stay at junior middleweight where he will challenge Austin Trout on December 1 at the Madison Square Garden. That left Marquez and American boxer Timothy Bradley Jr as the remaining options for Pacquiao. Bradley had defeated Pacquiao via a highly controversial split decision last June, but reports indicated that Arum was hesitant to put together a rematch because the first fight did not do particularly well in the box office.

Pacquiao owns a 2-0-1 win-loss-draw record against Marquez in a rivalry that stretches all the way back to 2004. In their first encounter, Pacquiao knocked down Marquez three times in the first round, only to see the Mexican get back up every time and rally to earn a draw. Pacquiao won a controversial split decision in their 2008 rematch and an even more controversial majority decision in their trilogy bout in November 2011.

Undefeated American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is unsure if his May 5 opponent, Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, has truly “recreate” himself as a boxer. The Mayweather vs Cotto fight will be o May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather will challenge Cotto for the World Boxing Association junior middleweight championship this Saturday in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila), the first time since 2007 that he will fight at the 154-pound division.

“I can’t really speak on it, if he really reinvented himself,” Mayweather said in a Boxing Scene interview about Cotto.

Cotto’s career was at a crossroads following his 12th round technical knockout loss to Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao in 2009, but was able to bounce back by moving up in weight. He then won the WBA belt and has successfully defended it twice.

Last December, he made a strong statement by defeating Mexico’s Antonio Margarito, the only other man to defeat him.

Mayweather notes that he has already fought another fighter who has supposedly “reinvented” himself.

“Last time they said a guy reinvented himself was Shane Mosley, when he beat Antonio Margarito,” Mayweather said.

“Then, after I beat Mosley, they said he was over the hill,” he added, referring to his May 2010 unanimous decision victory over “Sugar” Shane.

Despite this, Mayweather insisted that he has no plans to underestimate Cotto.

“He’s a solid guys, he’s strong, he’s tough and he’s a guy I can’t overlook,” the undefeated boxer said.

Pacquiao said during the interview that Bob and him will decide on what’s best, to make sure that they're not at the losing end, he said, when asked about the rematch with his Mexican nemesis. Meanwhile Juan Manuel Marquez said he will be willing to fight Manny Pacquiao for a fourth time on May 5, 2012. Pacquiao and Marquez's three fights have ended in controversy. Their last bout was held last November
12 was a majority decision victory in favor for Pacquiao, yet many boxing observers felt Marquez was the rightful winner.

Their first 2 fights were also controversial. In 2004, Marquez fought to a controversial draw despite suffering 3 first-round knockdowns to Pacquiao. Round 1: This fight is underway. It's a raucous atmosphere in Las Vegas with the fans supporting Marquez, and Pacquiao lands an early left hand to Marquez's nose that causes the fans to ooh and ah. A good flurry of punches they both connect with and and then more from Pacquiao. A good first round that goes to Pacquiao, 10-9.

Round 2: After a fast-paced first round both men are a little slower early in the second, perhaps trying to avoid making the first mistake in the fight. Marquez is trying to go to Pacquiao's body, but Pacquiao doesn't seem to be feeling anything. Pacquiao is moving quickly and punching crisply. Now Marquez lands a body shot and an uppercut. Pacquiao connects with a right hook. It's a close second round that goes to Pacquiao, 10-9.

Round 3: Marquez lands a short uppercut. Pacquiao's movement seems to be frustrating Marquez, but Pacquiao isn't landing a lot of punches -- he's more active with his footwork than he is with his hands. A hard right hook from Pacquiao connects to Marquez's temple, and I'll give the third round to Pacquiao, 10-9.

Round 4: Pacquiao lands a good left hook and then backs away and makes Marquez miss. Pacquiao comes in wildly and gets off balance but Marquez can't take advantage. Marquez lands two to the body effectively. Pacquiao lands a left and Marquez lands a right, and it's another close round but this time I give a slight edge to Marquez, 10-9.

Round 5: Marquez is continuing to go to the body, but Pacquiao is mostly blocking those punches. Now Marquez lands a big right to Pacquiao's head, and that one has Pacquiao reeling. Marquez with a good left hand now. Marquez is starting to get through and hurting Pacquiao. By far the best round of the fight for Marquez, 10-9.

Round 6: Pacquiao charges inside, Marquez makes him pay with a right hand counter, but then Pacquiao comes right back with a hard left of his own. A great exchange. Pacquiao lands a right hook and Marquez with a left hook. The best round of the fight so far goes to Pacquiao, 10-9

Round 7: Marquez lands a very big right hand that backs Pacquiao up. Now another hard shot from Marquez. Pacquiao appears to have some blood around his mouth. Now Pacquiao knocks Marquez back with a shot to the head. Marquez lands a left and then Pacquiao swings and misses. Good round for Marquez, 10-9

Round 8: Marquez is countering very effectively and lands a good right cross. A good right hand to the head from Marquez. Pacquiao may be a little frustrated right now because he hasn't been tested the way Marquez is testing him in a long time. Now Pacquiao wades in and lands a left hand, but Marquez hits him right back. Another good round for Marquez, 10-9.

Round 9: Marquez throws a 1-2 that Pacquiao blocks, then Marquez lands one to the back of Pacquiao's head. Marquez lands a couple of good combinations. Now they're back-and-forth brawling with Marquez appearing to get the better of some exchanges, only to have Pacquiao swarm and knock Marquez off balance. Pacquiao explodes in the final seconds of the round and that may have been enough to give the round for Pacquiao, 10-9.

Round 10: Both guys came out of their corners looking a little bit worn out after that incredible flurry to end the ninth round. A couple of furious exchanges now which have Pacquiao backing up and gesturing that Marquez hit him with a head butt. Pacquiao has a cut over his right eye that he seems to think came from a head butt, but the referee hasn't ruled on that. Pacquiao appears to be frustrated and Marquez has been the aggressor in this round. Marquez, 10-9.

Round 11: he Nevada State Athletic Commission has confirmed between rounds that Pacquiao's cut came from an accidental clash of heads. Pacquiao lands a big left to Marquez's head. Marquez looked hurt by that one. They exchange hard rights, then Marquez lands a left as well. I think Pacquiao has connected on a few more punches than Marquez has in this crucial round and I give it to Pacquiao, 10-9.

Round 12:Marquez's corner is telling him that he's winning the fight, and Freddie Roach seems to think Marquez is winning, too, because he told Pacquiao he needs to knock Marquez down in this round. I'm not so sure. Good left hand from Pacquiao. Marquez seems to be playing it safe, which is no surprise considering that his corner told him he's winning. Pacquiao's mouthpiece falls out of his mouth which causes a brief respite. Marquez has a big overhand right. Pacquiao goes to the body. Pacquiao with a big left. The fight ends with them toe to toe. I give the 12th to Pacquiao, 10-9. I'll tell you what the judges say as soon as Michael Buffer announces it.

Most people would also believe as well that Pacquiao can knock out Marquez when they faced each other on the ring. But for me, I don’t know how you’ll knock Marquez out, yeah he’s been knockdown by Pacquiao several times during their previous fight but he was never been knockout. I tried hard to keep this feeling to myself even if in the past that I described Pacquiao as “the greatest fighter ever” and therefore would be very hard to beat. Pacquiao even
admitted that Marquez was his greatest rival. Marquez was the only fighter that gave Pacquiao a hard time and a beating also. Both fighters improve their boxing skills after four years especially Pacquiao who improve so much. Though it was a long time ago but Marquez knows how to fight Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao was already on Los Angeles for his final workout before the Pacquiao vs Marquez fight, that Marquez will be the toughest fight for the Filipino champion over the last two years. After arrival in Wild Card Gym, It was not known who will spar with Pacquiao in the second phase of the preparation for Marquez in the Wild Card Gym.
